They reckon that you shouldn't wear wires when your norks are growing as the wires might dig into the developing milk glands. However, in my bras, the wires are underneath the breast (hence the name underwiring) and therefore are not digging into them at all. So long as they fit correctly then underwires are fine.
I presume they think that due to giant pregnancy boobs you don't want extra padding. I like the moulded styles though, as they give a bit of extra coverage.

What I don't understand is why they all have nursing drop cups? I'm not breastfeeding for another 4 1/2 - 5 months. I don't need a drop cup. When I do, I will probably need a rather bigger size!

Ectopic pregnancies are rather rare. Less than 1% I think and if you have never had any sort of pelvic inflammatory disease or chlamydia or anything untoward in there, your chance is even lower. It can happen to anyone but it is highly unlikely to be happening to you. If you really want to pretend to reassure yourself do a CB Digi. Ectopics often have slow rising hcg so if you get a decent result on one of those then you have less reason to worry.
Also, the shoulder pain would only happen once an ectopic burst and you had internal bleeding already. That wouldn't happen at 5 weeks!

Bras? Depends on your boobs. I have bigger ones and tend to order from Bravissimo. Other than that, if you are DD or below, just go and get fitted at a department store (and then order the stuff much cheaper online) A maternity sleep bra would be available in Mothercare or similar.

Truffkin · 03/11/2011 21:42

Sorry Kat cross posted earlier. I didn't feel movement until about 22 weeks and did get quite worked up about it. It's certainly made up for lost time since though Grin

Bugger I wanted a normal wax as although my bump's not huge, I'm not confident enough to let myself loose with any hair removal tools or products for the time being. I intended to just have a normal bikini wax but let myself be talked into the brazilian. It's a bit strange but at least will make the examinations a bit easier Wink

Also we're moving back to the Midlands to be near our families and friends. We've been in that there London for 3 years but feel too far away with a baby. Once we decided, it seemed silly to wait very long, especially when our living costs will halve when moving from a 2 bed flat to a 3 bed house! We thought TGB would need to leave work and find a new job, but his boss is keeping him on and setting him up to work from home, which is great news.

Re: bras. I haven't worn special maternity ones, just got fitted and bought some new ones when I needed to. I've only grown one cup size, but that was to an 'H' so am very pleased. I've bought an underwired nursing bra (drop cups) as I just cannot go without at my size but it's really comfy and fits well. If BF works for us I'll definitely be getting another couple.

MadameBoo · 03/11/2011 23:11

You're moving back to these parts Truffs? Where? Where? We can meet up! Yay!

Re. bras, when I finally gave in and bought maternity ones it was useful that they were drop cup ones because it meant when Peedie arrived I could just keep using them for the first few weeks. I've since bought some that fit my post-pregnacy bf-boobs properly (down a back size and up a cup size from the late preggo ones). They're padded ones to avoid showing my nips to the world, and to feel more supported, so I'm not missing my underwires too much. I think Debenhams had some maternity ones that don't have drop cups if you want to avoid them.

I can't remember how many weeks I was when I felt movement, but for me it gave me more to worry about once I'd felt it because then I could worry if I didn't.....

Bugger, I did about 8 in the first 2 weeks! Baked bean is a good description, we had an early scan at 6+1 and thought it looked like a wotsit with a heartbeat Grin

Have had a lovely day, we watched Empire Strikes Back (working our way through the blu rays) then I made a roast dinner, then TGB ran me a bath with preggo products and a bathroom full of candles and let me wallow about whilst he washed up and made pudding. Now finishing off the weekend with snuggling up to watch Strictly and X Factor results.

Simple pleasures hey?

pone i read about your hossie trip and was appalled. Can't believe how rude and patronising they can be. Glad you got a nice scan in though.

I am massively fucked off today after a shit day at the chalkface. I hate teaching, and supply teaching can be actually more stressy than a proper job. I have decided to restrict it to 3 days a week until I go on permanent maternity leave. And then I think that will be it for me and the teaching profession. I can't see it being any better especially with a baby to look after too.

18 weeks tomorrow. Am keeping ticking off the days. it seems to be going slowly but almost half way there now. We are starting to talk about the baby like it is a real thing now, we have conversations including the sentence "when the baby is born..." which is good, but scary. It's better than the previous convos that usually started "all being well this time...."

My new bras are comfy. I tried soft cups but NO WAY is that happening, it was a Very Bad Look. Gone up another cup size and gone for a more coverage type of style which is more supportive than plunge etc. Nice bra to wear actually although not very sexy. Very pleased to hear that underwired nursing bras exist.

Truffkin · 08/11/2011 18:12

Kit this website is where I got my underwired nursing bra from. I did some research to find this style and this site was the best priced one I found. I've bought the white one and if breast feeding works for us, I'll get the black one too. I have one soft cup bra from Mothercare and hate it but will probably wear it in bed whilst I need to use breast pads - seriously sexy this baybee laying bizniz.

18 weeks though, not long until your 20 week scan! Are you planning to find out the sex of your baybee or keep it a surprise? I thought that most people didn't find out, but it seems we are in the vast minority and we were the only couple in our antenatal class who didn't know what we were having. A couple of times I've thought it would be nice to know, particularly when it comes to clothes shopping but I think it has meant I've spent less as impulse buying is more difficult when you're staying unisex (I am pretty sure I will make up for this once baybee is here!)

I've had my flu jab today and am hopeful for no side effects. I've always been fine before but there seem to be lots of 'horror stories' this winter about people who've become ill afterwards or had dead arm for days. So far so good, lets hope it stays that way.

Bugger re: scans, I think it really does depend on where you are going for your antenatal care. We've managed to have our scans on Saturdays so TGB hasn't needed to take time off work, I know other hospitals don't offer this. We have been able to arrange other appointments in the evenings and weekends so they are really flexible. Hope yours is too.

KatAndKit · 08/11/2011 18:26

truffs I do want to find out the sex. The first time I was pregnant we were going to have a surprise but after everything I have been through I have changed my mind. I guess it would be nice to have some certainty about something after all the worries. I have had enough "surprises" really. And I also have scans for 24, 28 and 32 weeks so plenty of opportunity to find out even if MiniKit doesn't cooperate the first time around!

BarbiesBeaver · 09/11/2011 16:09

Kat we felt the same about finding out the sex - we thought we would have at least one area that we had some sort of control over. And of course baby had it's legs crossed so we couldn't find out! I was pretty disappointed to begin with but to be honest I'm quite glad now - all the clothes we've bought have been lovely bright unisex stuff and I can't wait until husband tells me the sex after the birth bit. But it sounds as if you have plenty of opportunity to have a look anyway, we had lots of scans but they were all early ones.

Will your hospital just sort themselves out please Pone? Do you want me to get medieval on their ass?

I had my flu jab the other day. Arm was a bit bruised for a few days but have felt fine otherwise.

When can I expect the baby to drop a bit? My ribs are killing me.

Truffkin · 09/11/2011 18:50

Totally understand Kat and it will be exciting to think of your baby as the he or she s/he'll be on arrival.

I'm ok still after the flu jab so looks like I was worried for nothing. I have been a bit whiney this week I am sorry to say. I think even with an errand planned each day, I'm getting a bit of cabin fever and that is spilling over into a bad mood. I'm feeling quite needy so when TGB gets home I want to just talk 'at' him and he wants to chill Sad I recall this the other way around when he was out of work after we moved to Lindon and it makes me realise how he felt. I think I just associate so much of 'me' with my professional self that I'm feeling a bit of a non-contributer at the moment. I'm not feeling fed up at being pregnant but am thinking that the sooner the baby is here, the sooner I will feel useful again Grin

Barbie my bump dropped a couple of weeks ago, although no idea if this is usual. Apart from the wriggliest baby ever, I'm not uncomfortable now as my lungs have room and my appetite is bigger so there is definitely more room! Also, any progress on your house? There has been an offer on the flat we're in and the landlord wants to know if we can move out on 10th December. I think that might be too soon, as if I go 2 weeks overdue the baby will be born on 2nd December, which would only give us a week. That's really cutting it too fine isn't it?

Bugger how's the menkul developing? Grin

Glad to hear it! If you are anything like me, you'll get to the end and think 'where has that time gone?' I really feel like my pregnancy has flown by, although of course I am now preparing to eat my words as I go overdue and the last 3 weeks (am 39 weeks tomorrow!) drag on for a million years......
