I don't know if it is a DK. Perhaps I will drag my arse all the way up the stairs to check........

yes it is, editor is Maggie Blott.

Mumsnet one is available on Kindle edition if you have one. But I have the paperback too. I leave that, and What to Expect, in the bathroom in the hope of MrKat reading them. he has read some actually. I think What to Expect is more his style, especially when it explains about flatulence...

Will you get a decent amount of maternity pay or will it be SMP only? I'll only get maternity allowance but we will just have to manage on what he earns really.
I think before you have kids you get used to being able to buy nice things for yourself etc. A hard habit to break!

That's good, same as teachers although I was never going to get that even if I stayed in my old job as it is conditional on returning - I hated the place!

I'm not worried about money that much although I miss having my own proper salary. We are managing ok, i am getting a fair amount of supply teaching and I'll have done enough weeks to claim MA which is the same as SMP for 39 weeks. After that we will just have to manage. Hopefully MrK will have got rich by then or something. I will always be able to go back to teaching if needs be.

kat seriously? Ear drops? Ffs. As for 'hot' swimming pool and bath , in all the hot baths I've had over the years I've never had a jet of boiling water fly up my foof? You? Most dangerous thing about bath is getting in with spd.

bugger you are allowed to drink you know. Please don't turn in to the type who's scared to carry cakes. ;)

I have just discovered a slice of heaven. Needed new pants and figured I might as well buy maternity ones. MOG! I might ask to be buried in them!

As for affording baybees. I buy nothing at full price, everything is from sales. E.g., this Jan sales I will be buying clothes for a 1 year old and a 3 year old. Well actually I won't because this one will get all bear's stuff. Carseats, usually 120 euros but 60 in sale. So what if it sits in spare room for 3 months? You won't spend much on going out for a while and good fucking luck getting a haircut in the first 3 months.

What are maternity pants? Are they granny pants with an even bigger belly?

I think I will need to get a couple of new bras now. I am having a tit expansion. this is not good. going up to FF will be pricey I bet.

AlpinePony · 02/11/2011 17:10

Well normally I wear lycra shorts, but etam do the shorts with a high supportive panel. Think gok wan differs support pants. It feels like a bra for a bump! Can't believe I didn't get any last time - I think they might just possibly save my life.

AlpinePony · 02/11/2011 17:11

kat try brastop.co.UK freya and curve Kate range for cheap, supportive boulder-holders.

Bugger I think I was more the opposite way of being less than careful and did have a couple of guilt pangs when I realised that if anything happened to this baybee I would have a period of time when I blamed it on my pate eating ways Wink although I wasn't guzzling offal and blue cheese, I didn't rule out anything completely, all in moderation I decided was ok. nothing to do with the fact that I only remembered after the event on a few occasions

Today I spent nearly an hour trying to find parking space within reasonable walking distance of my front door. This is when living in London on a road with no permit restrictions sucks. My car is being sent away next week (end of personal lease) and not being replaced until we really need one. I am looking forward to this as I will save money (car lease, insurance, tax, diesel) and we don't use it when we are at home at all. When we move back to Birmingham, I am hopeful that we can continue to use public transport as much as possible, but think we may be wanting to get a new car pretty quick. Still, a few months of not paying for one will help towards longer maternity leave for me Grin

I haven't bought any maternity pants, but with that reaction Ski I am wishing I had done! I did get some maternity leggings, which I have worn a couple of times and they are very comfortable. My nursing bra (underwired, of course) is lush as well. Very comfortable and looks almost sporty with it's white cotton-ness.

TGB's cousin has gifted me a manual Avent breast pump that she didn't use (BF didn't work out for her) AIBU to want to try and pump some milk out now? I've had a couple of drops every now and then over the last month or so and am morbidly fascinated with the production of breast milk. I'm weird aren't I?

truff if I find myself this time in a position of producing milk beforehand, I will pump and freeze. The fact you're producing already is a great sign. :)

Bugger don't give yourself a hard time, these are mindfuck days fo sho Smile

I had a little go, it felt strange, will do it again at a better time to see if I can actually produce anything worthwhile.

I haz packed my hospital bag - check me out being all organised! Have also made dinner and sorted out (read: thrown away lots of ancient, manky crap) the bathroom cupboard. Is this nesting? Given my usual lack of domestic ability, I think it's about as good as it will get for me Grin

Excellent Truffs I am making notes as to what I should be doing on my mat leave - cooking lots, evicting mummified freezer mystery meats, and clearing out cupboards seems to be high on the agenda. I've started gathering stuff for the hospital bag - people I know keep popping up and announcing that they had early arrivals (and not forgetting our own Pone).

Bugger don't worry about being PFB. Just do what you're happy with. If that's keeping with eating soft boiled eggs, deli meat, and wine etc. then that's fine. But it's also ok to avoid things if they are going to stress you out. I've been a bit precious in this pregnancy but that's just because it took so bloody long to get here and I'm still paranoid something might go wrong.

Wrt. money - I have bought lots of stuff off ebay or discounted, eg. bambinomerino do beautiful merino wool swaddles which are reduced because they have a tiny mark on them. You honestly would need a magnifying glass to see anything wrong. And people are really kind lending stuff you might need.

And in terrifying/exciting news: someone might be interested in buying our house. They want a quick sale. I am due in 7 weeks. What fantastic timing! Can't remember when LadyGG did her move, but I think it was pretty close to her due date.

Truffkin · 03/11/2011 12:49

Bugger I actually don't feel too big, but then I am 'all bump' as people keep commenting! I am not complaining at all, hopefully it means there will be less work to do afterwards if I do need to shift a few pounds. I have been a bit more achy than usual this week, but I wonder if that's just because I have less to keep me occupied than when I was working. I'm feeling surprisingly chilled about the whole giving birth thing, I wonder if I am just remaining in De Nile for as long as possible? I had a good chat with my sister on Tuesday night and I think my attitude of 'what will be will be so why scare myself silly in advance' is actually paying off!

Barbie 7 weeks? WTF? Have the ESH actually invented a time machine??? Could be good news on the house moving though, as you said, it would be great to be somewhere new for when the bambino arrives. We are moving afterwards really due to the fact that I get better care at the hospital we are with and I didn't fancy changing HCPs and birth plans at the last minute, plus it works out better for TGB's work that he can stay until Christmas if we keep our flat until then.

Great news this morning that we've had our offer accepted on the rental house we wanted - even though another couple put a matched offer in and could move sooner. The letting agent said the landlord asked her who she preferred and she said me - just goes to show that being friendly pays off sometimes Grin although I'm fairly sure she shouldn't be telling me what a PITA the other couple have been!! I have been getting removal quotes this morning and turns out it's not as expensive as I thought it was going to be. This does mean that I'm wondering if we was ripped off when we moved down here in the first place as I'm sure I paid a lot more (although in fairness, work relocated us so I probably wasn't as choosy when getting prices Blush)

Today my jobs include sorting out the filing system (this actually means, shredding the 100s of gas bills from 2006 we seem to have kept in a filing box for some reason), sorting out the spare room wardrobe and chucking some things on ebay (I am hoping to boost the maternity leave fund by ridding my home of unwanted clutter - mwa ha ha) and making toad in the hole for dinner. I should imagine there will be several birth ball bouncing sessions in between to alleviate my lower back and pelvic aches, plus I intend to book myself in for ladygarden waxing and may also include a facial or manicure to counteract the discomfort and feel like a treat Wink

In other news TGB is working on Saturday, how on earth am I going to amuse myself for another whole day? Being at home in the week is harder than I thought and I miss adult Company already! Must. Get. Out. More. Next. Week.

Good news about the house! Is TGB changing jobs or something?
Please come and declutter my house! We are inundated with shit that has been hoarded and since none of it actually belongs to me, I can't just chuck it all out as I would dearly love to do.

So, who can tell me when the baybee will decide to do some moving. First timer, a bit podgy (size 16 in the lower abdomen area). Am 17 weeks now so I know it is early but I am impatient and am now regretting not caving in to the temptation of a private 16 week scan. Still 3 and a half weeks to go till the NHS scan.

We are off on a probably-not-so-dirty weekend tomorrow which will be lovely. MrKat seems to have been working all day and evening recently and I have been feeling a bit lonesomeish so it will be nice to spend some proper time together. We are off to Edinburgh and have a table booked for a nice restaurant on Sunday evening. Am looking forward to comfy hotel beds, hopefully a lovely bathroom and fluffy towels!

Truffkin · 03/11/2011 18:53

Yes. We will. All of the 'being ready' in my head doesn't translate to really 'getting' what it will be like to have a real life baybee. I simply can't imagine us having a baby and doing things we do now. Even just visiting parents or doing our traditional Christmas Day stuff. It's going to be a huuuge shock, but can't wait Grin

Also, I experienced my first ever Brazilian bikini hot wax this afternoon. Ouch Blush

AlpinePony · 03/11/2011 18:57

Just a quickie, kat I felt bear at 17+5 and this one at exactly 12. You feel it when you feel it and don't let wankers Patronised you because you weigh more than 6 stone!
