it depends on your muscle tone pre pregnancy, but I noticed a definite firming quite quickly, then a tightening of my trousers, then a mini bump around 4 months.

Truffkin · 30/10/2011 11:53

Morning haglets.

Kit nice work on 16 weeks diffed, will soon be the 20 week scan, which for me was a big achievement! I think I started to 'do' more stuff after that and my in laws bought us a pram at about 22 weeks if I recall. In reality I did little else until after 30 weeks as I could only think 'it's ages away yet' and I think it still doesn't really feel imminent. I've not had any proper braxton hicks though, so nothing to get my mind focussed for what will happen. Intellectually I know that in less than 5 weeks time I will have a real life baybee to be responsible for, but that just doesn't translate to a 'feeling' IKSWIM. I probs sound like a loony. I think I am a bit strange Confused

Bugger I could tell myself that I had some roundness of stomach from about 17 weeks, but no one else could really notice a bump until after 20. I did have pretty constant vomming from 7 weeks though, so this means I haven't gained much weight from my pre-preg state but have a pretty pronounced bump now!

We're off to the cinema this afternoon, have been advised to get a few trips in whilst we still can as it's the sort of thing that's not significant enough to get a babysitter for so will be off the radar for a while. I'm not a huge cinema fan but there are a couple of things we want to see so are taking the advice.

KatAndKit · 30/10/2011 14:05

bugs I am a good bit fatter than you. Right now I can see a bumpish thing when I am naked, it is clearly a pg bump rather than an excess of pies. With non-tight clothes on I still just look fatter!

truffs what are you going to see at the cinema?

Truff - lots of cinemas do a parent and baby showing, e.g. at Cineworld there is Cinebabies, or the Big Scream at Picture Houses, usually a weekday morning to which you can take a baby as the certification doesn't apply to them, and you will be among other parents and babies, so can change, feed, comfort as needed.

Truffkin · 30/10/2011 22:09

We saw Contagion, was ok. Trailers for new things I will want to see too! Thanks for tip on baby cinema Meds that might be something I need to try out. I had the biggest ice cream ever and am still feeling full from it Blush

Picked up new moses basket mattress and tankini for wearing in birth pool, so think that's me done for hospital bag stuff.

Bugger good news on the breast love, I'm the opposite and was hoping I wouldn't end up like some sort of Jordan character. Thankfully I've only gone up one cup size and back size, although am not sure what's going to happen when my milk comes in Grin

KatAndKit · 31/10/2011 07:03

I haven't got the giant norks either. Hopefully I am not speaking too soon. Am still in same bras but might have to get a new one soon as I have got the boobache back again, which I haven't had since week 6. Did any of you lot worry about that advice not to wear underwires? I can't imagine how awful I'd look in a soft bra!

bugs the magazines are just full of adverts really but it is well exciting when you are officially able to buy one!! I think I have almost every pregnancy book on sale. Well, I have about six anyway. Not including the one that the NHS used to give you for free.

What is this bollocks about supposedly having more energy in the second trimester and being blooming and radiant? I have never felt more tired in my life. I am neither blooming nor radiant. I look like a podgy heffalump, I am full of aches and pains and I am knackered!

AlpinePony · 31/10/2011 07:20

truffs You're 37 weeks? Shock When did that happen? I love your new photos, you look absolutely radiant and I love the colour. I think the cinema is a really great idea - it's something which is very hard to do as a couple once the baby is born. You can do "everything else", go on holiday, go to restaurants etc., etc. - but you can't go to the cinema unless you have a sitter. And even then, you might not want a "late night" because you know you'll be up a few times anyway. Just because you want to lie in until 8am doesn't tend to translate to bambino.

bugger Bump? Well first pregnancy I went in to maternity at 19 weeks I think, this time at 21/22. I can still get in to my pre-pregnancy jeans but that's more my shape (big arse/small waisted) - but they're not really comfy. I found in my first pregnancy I couldn't tolerate anything resting on my abdomen so I had simon cowell pants. In fact, if I could tuck them in to my underwire even better!

kat My boobs have gone up maybe a cupsize... thems the breaks I suppose when you start with bigger ones. I wore underwire right up to the end last time - I've no desire to wear my tits around my knees. I did get a Hot Milk non-underwired one but I barely wore it - just for a bit of bf'ing.

Second trimester energy boost? [snurk] This is from the same myth-factory as the "increased sex drive" - these stories are put out there to try and get the men on board. All massive lies of course.

OP posts:
Truffkin · 31/10/2011 08:42

Kat I have not given up my underwiring, couldn't even contemplate the thought. I have also bought an underwired nursing bra by 'Anita' from an online site NursingBra-shop.co.uk. I spend ££££s on bras anyway and usually shop at Bravissimo but the lure of underwiring (I don't care how vain it is, the downward pointyness of the soft cup bra nearly brought on weeping) was strong Grin

Alps you're telling me!! It feels like time has flown, but then we've had a busy year. I think this last few weeks will be the longest without a proper routine, which is why I've got stuff planned in to keep me occupied. Typically today I couldn't lie in when I had the chance, on a work day I'd have loved to switch of the alarm and roll over for some extra zzzz.

Kat I did have a period of 'blooming' when I wasn't being sick every day and people did tell me I looked well and suited pregnancy Unfortunately this seems to have done one now and I'm back to reactive skin and knackeredness -joy! I've ordered a miracle face mask cure from Thalgo that I'm hoping will restore my glowing beauty for the first photos showing off our newborn Smile

BarbiesBeaver · 31/10/2011 10:01

Truffs did your pukes come back? I've been feeling nauseaous and puked a couple of times in the last couple of weeks, which I'm not impressed with.

Boobs - I've gone up a couple of cup sizes but it's been fairly gradual I think.

Hello Bugger. I'm 32 weeks after my third go at IUI and two miscarriages. I was too shit scared to think much about bumps or planning much ahead until well after the 12 week scan so I'm no help!

I'm jealous of the house hunting. Ours is on the market after manically working to get it finished this year but there's no way we'll move before baby comes. Why won't someone just buy the fucker?

Kat are you sure you're not iron deficient? That can make you tired (and you need vit C too to actually absorb it). I felt better about 18 weeks ish, so perhaps an energy boost is just around the corner.

KatAndKit · 31/10/2011 10:05

I'm definitely not iron deficient! Although the vit C might be a good point. I get plenty iron in my diet but perhaps a few oranges might make me feel better.

32 weeks already! Wow!!! I can't believe how fast everyone's pregnancies are going on here. It seems like only yesterday that you and truffs got your wins.

AIBU to have a second breakfast? WIBU if it was cake?

Truffkin · 31/10/2011 10:25

Barbie 32 weeks? That seems to have flown by too! Yes unfortunately I'm back to daily puking, this time down to reflux. Ranitidine is helping a lot so is really confined to first thing in the morning and stays under control for the rest of the day. I know it sounds loopy but it's just become 'normal' really and I find myself telling people that I've had a good pregnancy because I've been pretty lucky to not have any other negative symptoms. My biggest silver lining is definitely only gaining a few pounds overall, because I'm sooo lazy at dieting / exercise that I would definitely have remained lardier than ever if I had lots of 'baby weight' to shift.

re: househunting, we are only looking at rental for the time being. We have a place in Birmingham that we own and rent out to a great tenant so we're leaving that as is for now. We've rented whilst in London as just could not get our heads round spending £300k on a flat! Once we're back we will be looking at more like £200k for an actual house that we can add some value to. It feels like we're becoming grown-ups Grin

Kat my iron level was low a couple of months ago, which surprised me but did affect my energy. Got it sorted quickly and think it was down to low absorption rather than consumption as my vit C intake wasn't where it should be.

Day 1 of no work and so far I've done nothing. Need to tidy a but before letting agent comes this afternoon and packing hospital bag is on my 'to do' list for this week. Need to find flip flops from deepest depths of wardrobe!

Now we PESHes will know how to take care of our baybees. I am a bit gutted about not playing chess with it or bathing it with a hosepipe, but very informative nevertheless. I now feel equipped and ready to be responsible for an infant!

BrownB · 31/10/2011 18:53

Ha! That's a great wee guide KittyKat.

I'm now 28 weeks. Until about two weeks ago I was still wearing my "fat" jeans, and am still wearing one pair of pre-maternity trousers. Or I was last week. Not so sure about this week. My breasts are still sore, and are about a cup size bigger, and one size bigger around the back. Now find my underwired bras too uncomfortable to continue with them. It's my tummy that's the problem with those...

I still have pretty much nothing on the kiddie front and am starting to feel a little freaked out by this fact. So many offers, so little actually forthcoming. . Am now thinking a Day of Action where I get in my ZipCar and turn up at my brother's and my friend's house may be the best way forward. After we go to Italy in a couple of weeks.

There will be hardly anyone in July yet. Things will pick up, all sorts will get on there. Often people who have had a hard time don't want to jinx themselves by joining a month by month thread straight away. On april, there are all sorts on it now, including esh types who aren't actually eshes but could have been.
But this thread is officially better anyway.

So then bugs how is the menkul going?

Step away from the sticks!! Step away from the sticks!!!

Seriously, the sticks won't tell you anything. I have miscarried twice and neither of those were predicted by sticks.

I do understand about being on alert. The first month is the hardest for that. I at least had two early scans to see me through that period although of course that gave me even more to menkul over at times! Instead of buying sticks you now need to buy every pregnancy book in Waterstones. You seem to be the studious type so you can immerse yourself in lots of lovely reading about what you have to look forward to!

bugger I had to bow out of my monthly antenatal thread as it was populated by the terminally thick and annoying. Full of twats thinking a zumba class or handcreme would kill their baybees. Fucking idiots. Dust eating idiots. Heaven help us, those women will one day be the mothers of our offspring's friends. :(

The Mumsnet one is good, it is informative and funny with lots of anecdotes in the style of posts on here and doesn't suggest spending 9 months weaving your own lentils or yoghurt knitting or any other lunacy. Tells you all you need to know and is fun to read.

What to expect when you are expecting is very very informative about the physical aspect of pregnancy. It has a slightly annoying writing style in my opinion and can verge on patronising now and then. But it is very detailed. It is rather American in style as it talks about how to choose your doctor and what to ask them when you are interviewing them!! er, hello, welcome to the NHS!

I have a lovely day-by-day pregnancy book, it is hardback which is good for resting a drink on as I have it on the bedside table. It is less informative but it has lovely lovely colour pictures of what is going on in there for alll 280 days of your pregnancy.

Pregnancy for Dummies - it's ok, tells you lots of stuff but not the best.

Rough Guide to Pregnancy, too much about one woman and her own experience and I didn't rate it much to be honest.

Your pregnancy week by weeks gets good reviews on Mumsnet. It's written by Lesley Regan, she is an obstetrician and knows her stuff.

I'd get one or two books for their informative qualities and one that has pretty pictures in.

pone I delight in telling the terminally stupid that they are being ridiculous. This is a new hobby of mine. I actually joined another forum just to get the laughs of reading the "have I killed my baybee" threads and telling the OP to get some perspective.

One of my favourite recent ones was a woman worried about earwax drops she had used, but then flushed out of her ear in a panic after 5 seconds. I did point out to her that she wasn't actually ingesting the stuff! But of course then a whole load of others came on suggesting she get in touch with a doctor asap.

Another div was worried she had hurt her baybee during a session with her toddler at a soft play centre. And then posted again a bit later suggesting that she might need to stop taking her toddler to his swimming lesson as the pool might be too hot.

I love it. I enjoy setting them straight in no uncertain terms.
