Here we go ladies. A shiney new thread.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
fishandlilacs · 11/10/2011 20:00

cakes I too have been known to eat dinner in underwear and even naked. I am just soo hot at the moment so I know what you mean.

Oh my I had followed that cat thread only so far_i am just checking the house fort dd's hideous toy cat her grandma gave her-it's one of those that is made of rabbit fur.

Those of you who have other children, please take a moment to read my thread in chat.

I have had a horrible evening with my dd. It seems the transition into full time school is not going very well combined with me being pregnant. I am worried sick for her. She's a mess of emotions at the moment. I am not coping very well with it. If you have any advice to offer please do.

Hya, we've had a ridiculous few weeks and I'm hoping things will calm down at last. 2 weeks ago Dd had a heavy cold and barking cough and we queued for more than 3 hours to see a GP cos our health centre was full. The GP said she was fine, keep up the Calpol etc but that night her breathing got so bad we had to rush her to A&E at 3am. She was nebulised and had oxygen, it was really frightening and the staff there said she did have a chest infection after all. They gave us medicine (which I had to mix myself, and it's hard to measure 84mls without pharmacy equipment) but at an adult dose, not a 4yr old dose. I finally got her to our GP 3 days later and he said no harm done, infection cleared due to massive dose. Amazingly it didn't give her a tummy upset but we kept her off school until she started eating again and stopped rattling.

Then, after explaining this horror to my manager he said he would appreciate it if I 'could please try to put in a full week's work next week'. At my appraisal he conceded that only attending for 30% of the time since April had impacted negatively on my delivery results. Roll on mat leave. Grrrrrr - I feel slightly better for the rant!

So my huge bump has become an afterthought (kicking regularly so no worries thankfully), Dh finished decorating and the heated clothes airer from Lakeland has revolutionised my laundry.

I have the glucose test this week - anyone else indulging?

And I'm super hot & dizzy too Cakes, evenings spent in underwear usual for me and I'm still sleeping naked under the summer weight duvet, which Dh might enjoy if it weren't for my alleged snoring. I snored badly last time too so he's just resigned to it continuing now.

knittiekitty · 11/10/2011 20:14

Poor Fish - cross post and having similar wobbles with my Dd too. The school said she could continue part-time until Xmas if needed, could you explore that option? My Dd seems to love school so far although she sometimes gets anxious about if she'll still be needed when the baby arrives. She asked me where the baby will sleep and I said in our room for a few months, and she started crying cos she doesn't want to be left out. I just keep reassuring her that she's my special big girl and having lots of cuddles. Despite her time at nursery, school is really tiring her out which makes her more emotional so I'm trying to get her to bed on time or early. Are you finding your Dd is really tired by school too?

Oeisha · 11/10/2011 20:15

Evening all!

Welcome to brownwolf and welcome to team pink! Feel free to add yourself to the STATS list

cakes Genius thread! Poor lamb! How embarrasing.

Not really much to report. Work was the usual shite. Nothing's surprising me anymore. Found out (via a 4th party) what they're doing whilst I'm on mat. leave. At least they're actually thinking about it...even if they aren't polite enough to ask/inform me about it.

fish Sorry to hear things are rough for DD. Not been in your position myself, but have worked with that age group, and have seen my nephew and niece go through it, so, well, I'll throw in a couple of ideas that worked for them.

WOW! Abi's managed a whopping 113 movements in the last 24h (56 the previous 24h)...crikey! Maybe she was more active/waking me more than I thought she was, as that's when I've recorded it happening. No wonders she's quiet this evening.

Oeisha · 11/10/2011 20:18

Eeek! Missed loads posting there...
kitty What a stressful time! Glad to hear DD's ok though.

knittiekitty · 11/10/2011 20:24

Thanks Oeisha, it's been a rotten time, fingers crossed we're on the other side. I've booked my flu jab for first time in years, so that's one good thing I suppose.
Your Abi is an Olympian already, that's a really strong one in there!!

Deesus · 11/10/2011 20:32

Hi Brownwolf! And a big fat snap to you....I'm also due on 7th Jan, my first child, we're expecting a girl and I'm in Leeds! Spooky, eh? That's four out of four! Smile

Feeling like crud at work - boss had a chat with me on friday - we appreciate your pregnant, you need to slow down, etc, etc. Ended up crying today as they're just words rather than action - still have work being piled up on me like it's going out of fashion. Sent an email listing everything they're expecting me to do before I go on maternity leave in December....basically I need to start it all about two months ago minimum. It's just not realistic. Hope ranty email does the trick - I've basically said "I can't do all this, need to offload some as per our chat last week, please sort it".....

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 11/10/2011 20:45

kitty - I want that airer

Mum2be79 · 11/10/2011 21:20

I ended up screaming at DH this evening (he wasn't listening) as we have a problem with roads from 7th November.
For 3 weeks, East Yorkshire Council (and police) have decided in their wisdom to close part of the A614 - approx 11 mile stretch because there are numerous road surfacing works going on and as it would prove highly disruptive to traffic to be stop-start at traffic lights (several different sets of them), they thought it would be easier to close the road altogether and divert everyone via the M62 AND b1228 (I think - South Cave) and up to Market Weighton on the A1079. Fine - if you're classed as 'through traffic' - further to travel but not much. HOWEVER they seem to forget a rather large village along the A614 - mine! We thought we would be classed as access traffic (i.e. they said the road would be kept open for residents) but on following advice of a local councillor, we contacted the relevant department to enquire about this and 'he' was surprised we knew about it so early and said it would only be kept open for homes along that road - i.e. NOT my village residents. I only need to travel along the last 1/4 mile stretch of the proposed 'road works' to get to work - a 36 mile drive (50 minutes) but because the road is CLOSED I am having to drive WEST to then drive North followed East AGAIN (along single track roads in some places) to get to work on the East Coast - an extra 20 minute drive on top of what I do (not good at 32 weeks pregnant with looming snow forecast and at 6:30am!) OR I go SOUTH towards the M62 via a 'B' road, along the M62, up towards South Cave, Market Weighton, back track along A1079 and then up the rest of the A614 - a total of 60 miles and 1 1/2 hours!!!

Basically (long winded I know) the council want everyone in my village to travel an extra 15-30 miles (depending on the route) just to get the 5 miles distance to Market Weighton!!!

I hope this is not the case because the school bus will have a HELL of a journey getting hundreds of kids to school everyday!

shonnomanom · 11/10/2011 21:27

Kitty - glad dd is better now
Cakes - that poor cat woman. Hilarious!
Fish - sorry about your dd troubles. I posted on your thread. We have been in a similar situation here as well. So far we have some control over the situation by making sure she naps every afternoon and keeping het well involved in everything baby. We even had my baby niece overnight to give her a taste of life to come.

shonnomanom · 11/10/2011 21:32

Mum2be - xpost sorry. That's really shitty of your council! Surely if enough people complain they will amend the plans slightly Hmm

ParsleyLion1 · 11/10/2011 21:33

That just seems nonsense mum2be surely they can't do that really - I don't think they can have thought it through.

Anyway, the ether ate one of my posts I wrote on the train home earlier. To summarise it was longer than this but was along the lines of:

Welcome brownwolf Smile

How embarrassing nanny01 hope your feeling better now!

A couple of other things I can't remember and a rant about the man next to me eating prawn cocktail crisps that made me want to up chuck. Grin I didn't.

Oeisha · 11/10/2011 22:09

I can believe anything of local councils. Mine are currently taking 16 friggin weeks to put in a roundabout at the end of my road. 16 FRIGGIN WEEKS!!!
Admittedly my round trip is a lot less than yours mum2be but they're now threatening to close the diversion too. Bloody stupid.

knittiekitty · 11/10/2011 22:31

Mum2be that's ridiculous - register your complaint loudly and quick and rally the neighbours if you have the energy. Or can you work from home for the last stretch?

Cakes the airer is amazing, a whole load of washing dried overnight and they promise it only costs pennies an hour to run. You do have to stick a sheet over it to make a tent so it doesn't look elegant. I went to a 'Real Nappies' event and was really impressed with the Lollipop range so the airier should pay its way.
Right, off to tackle the never-ending ironing pile.
P.S I was ranting so hard I forgot to say welcome brownwolf!

shonnomanom · 11/10/2011 22:35

Councils are a joke. We have a back road that takes us to the next town. Otherwise we need to go on the motorway. It closed last November, the week before all the snow, due to subsidence. The official word from the 2councils that are connected to the road is that they have until October Next year to decide which council is responsible for the repair work.

Their taking 2years to argue over who should pay for the road basically.

Oeisha · 11/10/2011 22:38

I am now also in love with the arier Would be interested to know how quickley it gets through nappies as £80 is certainly a lot less than £500 for a tumble drier!

Mum2be79 · 12/10/2011 08:04

knittiekitty can't work from home. Teach Y1 in a Primary School on the East Coast. The road closure takes me up to the last week before Maternity and although I don't want to take early leave, though am considering coughing, sPluttering, being stressed and visiting my GP!
Oeisha
DH phoned Director of Environment and Neighbourhood services who were surprised we knew of it so quickly (that's because we have a caring, forward thinking Parish Council that don't take 'lip' from the biggies at Beverley!) and told us the through traffic applied to us and access was only going to be maintained for houses living ON the A614. The person he spoke to gave us another number (apparently the engineer in charge) but that number doesn't exist. DH has now emailed Paul Robinson, our local councillor, for more details and to ask if they can keep the small 1/2 or 1/4 mile stretch from the mini roundabout in our village (New Road) to Harswell Lane (which is the final stretch of roadworks) so residents in the village can at least travel to Market Weighton (5 miles away) and to get to work otherwise my travelling will increase from 36 miles to 50-60 miles one way!

Our villagers are very outspoken and I doubt we're the only ones who finds this all a bit crazy. They resurfaced the High Street in the village a few months ago and closed the road (only for 2 days though). But that closure was from 9am until 5pm - a time which suited me and not a big hassle as there were two other roads to divert to in the village to get round it. But they don't realise how important the A614 is. The only other route out is the A163 but that road goes west!?! I'm more positive thinking the road closure will keep access open for the villagers to travel North (since the school bus has to go that route) or they'll close it for only a few days during the 3 weeks they say it will take to complete the works. They said that about our village High Street and it didn't take that long. I can't see them sending the school bus on a 30 mile detour on main roads (via A163, B1228, M62, A1034 and A1079) or even on a 10 mile detour via the villages of Seaton Ross and Thorpe Le Street and back onto the A1079 tot ravel South to Market Weighton, which in some places is single track.

On a good note -visiting the midwife in 2 hours (a morning off work). Peanut hasn't moved much in 3 days so it will be a bit of reassurance for me (sitting here feeling like a liar as he/she seems to have woken up know!). Also going to ask if my scan to check the position of my placenta can be moved forward from 36 weeks and 5 days down to 32-34 weeks! Feeling like it's cutting it close to my due date if it hasn't moved (living 40 minutes from my nearest hospital).

addictediam · 12/10/2011 08:52

Its not just councils are just stupid, we have a train track that runs round our village and a few weeks ago the work had to be carried out on the level crossings and bridges...all 4 of them at the same time meaning we were going to be completely cut off for 2 weeks. And considering all out village has is a post office, a chip shop and a maximum security prision it wouldn't have been fun! The parish council got involved and pointed out their stupidity. The only reason they changed their mind was because of the prision - not all the villiagers who wouldn't have been able to get to work, buy food etc. The mind boggles!

Good luck at the mw mum2b

I want one of thoes airers too!

redheadbedhead · 12/10/2011 09:09

blimey this thread moves quick. I'll try and remember what everyone's said!

welcome brownwolf! Smile

sorry you were sick Nanny - it's obviously the week for it. I was given renatidine back when i was sick every day and it didn't help me at all - sounds like it really helps you though. maybe set an alarm on your phone so you don't forget to take it!

I too am exhausted this week and finding everything a bit hard. already lost one days work and wishing I hadn't taken on more this week - it's so hard being self-employed and pregnant, you just want to take all the work you can get before the baby comes out, but realistically you know you can't do it all! People who have had babies before - is it unrealistic of me to keep trying to freelance (obviously only taking easyish jobs) into January (due date 23rd)? I haven't got anything past November at the moment, but usually stuff comes in.... (My teaching stops in early December but I play violin for my main job - a lot of travelling but also a lot of sitting down!)

knittie can't believe being pregnant has made me fantasise about things like AIRERS. But I am.

Speaking of fantasy I had a crazy dream last night where I saw my baby's face for the first time poking out of the side of my belly. super weird.

fish and shon hope things get better with your other children. must be really tough.

makes thanks for cheering us all up with that brilliant thread!!! hilarious.

Nanny01 · 12/10/2011 09:50

No scary road works round here had them over the summer. I am still having chronic acid reflux today. The Renitadidne only helps if I take it early enough and this morning I feel really bad again so I won't be leaving the house today.

addictediam · 12/10/2011 10:06

Red, only you will be able to know how long you can keep working (sorry no help!) With dd I went on mat (am self employed) as soon as i could, around 3? Weeks but with this pg I'm not struggling as much as I was with her.

Can you book work and then cancel if you cant do it? I dont know how it would work so appoligies if this isnt an option, it wouldn't have been for me hence the early mat leave.

redheadbedhead · 12/10/2011 10:48

well, i can accept work and then find a dep, but it's not generally good form unless for a friend or known colleague. I guess I'll just play it by ear (as it were hee hee)

Oeisha · 12/10/2011 11:25

Mornin all!

mum2be Good luck with MW. Peanut's probably been hiding. I noticed yesterday that Abi would kick the placenta and I wouldn't feel a thing, could just see the a little bump on my belly.

Despite an anterior placenta I've not been asked to go for another scan. Sonographer did say she was fairly sure no placenta was near cervix at 20wks. I'll add it to my 'list of stuff to check' in a couple of weeks with MW (I'm getting a 28wk apt!).

Having slept for about 10h in total I don't feel too shocking today! Thanks to me steeping in last minute yesterday, I also don't have to be in work 'til 1 (someone's done some severe damage to their knee falling, alas, it was the person that's supposed to be covering a day off for me in a few weeks!). Though, I do now have a close down to deal with, and no DH to scrape me off the floor and feed me tonight.

SlightlyScrambled · 12/10/2011 18:26

Hello everybody,
I had another scan yesterday to see if I was required to have a gestational diabetes test. My BMI was 25 when I had my first appointment so put me in the risk zone. Thankfully Baby was measuring at the right size so I don't have to do the test. Bloody BMI, grrr.

But the bad news for me was that my MW thinks that my Pelvic Girdle Pain is something to just put up with and wouldn't refer me on for physio. I've been reading more and more about PGP and I'm terrified that it'll get worse, which it has been doing steadily.

Oeisha, I was wondering do you count each kick and movement individually or how does it work?

I haven't started counting yet but I've got a very active little one. Seems to be going all day long.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 12/10/2011 18:48

scrambled from what I've read it's mostly important just to keep track of any patterns of movement - times of day or stimuli etc

mmm. chocolate crispie cake was good, but I want more :( Shame I just ate the last one. Oh well.
