Here we go ladies. A shiney new thread.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SlightlyScrambled · 02/11/2011 17:09

Wow, miss a day and the thread is miles long!

Thanks Cakes for the ideas on the breast pads. Had a rummage through my remnant box and am going to make 4 to start with.

On the EC topic, I didn't go through with it with DD but noticed she did give the signs from very early on. We did change her nappy as soon as she did a pooh and by the time she started solids and her pooh got solid, she wouldn't go in her nappy. She's still in nappies but does all her no.2's in the potty since she was 11 months old. So I think we trained her to do her pee's in the nappy and potty training will still have to be done in the future.

I'll probably approach it the same way with the baby but maybe make more of an effort to react to signs of peeing.

In Finland, it's usual to wash the baby's bum under the tap until they get too big to fit in the sink. So no need for wipes for the first few months and we didn't get any rashes. Don't know if it was using just water or were we lucky with her skin.

ParsleyLion1 · 02/11/2011 17:35

fish and mrsA I'm halfway through the hypnobirthing course. I have session 3 of 5 tomorrow.

I'm there with it but finding some of the breathing techniques a bit hard. It needs practise.

ParsleyLion1 · 02/11/2011 18:01

Got my nhs antenatal class changed from wedding day to 10 December today. Was a bit worried they wouldn't be able to change it.

abeautifulbutterfly · 02/11/2011 19:04

Can I wish for my new LO to have traits neither of us (or our DDs) have? I would pick self-confidence and the ability to make small talk Grin. But she can have DH's love of science, my linguistic ability, my musical ear (but a bit more actual talent to go with it), my teeth (deffo not his!), his legs (gawd, she's gonna look funny), and his love of sport. Good idea for a chat topic!

ParsleyLion1 · 02/11/2011 19:10

I'd like LO to have my relaxed attitude to life but with OH's organisation and focus.

Most of all though I want to teach her to be secure and confident in herself.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 02/11/2011 19:19

I just hope that my little lad grows up to be as much of a true man as DH is. He's the first man I've ever known who can apologise unreservedly for being in the wrong and is the most empathetic and gentle man I know.

Plus he has the cutest dimples when he smiles :)

fishandlilacs · 02/11/2011 19:46

Finally got to see th docs today. Yes i have had a cold BUT it turns out my persistent cough ay be down to reflux. Considereing I coughed loads last night til I made myself sick took everything i could, opened windows, tried steam, tried cough syrup. Today they prescribed me a massive bottle of gavsiscon I took one swig form the and my cough stopped. So bizarre becasuse i haven't had much heartburn. Might be worth trying for your throat thing oiesha

What do i want my DS to inherit from me and DH. My DH is very moral and has an inner strength which I would like my son to be like. We both have a good grasp of the english language dh is a very talented wordsmith and we both love to read. DD is turning into a little reader too and I hope ds does. From me I guess my capability/resourcesfulness and open mind. Good question :)

OP posts:
fishandlilacs · 02/11/2011 19:47

(can I just add that good grasp of the English language is sadly not backed up by my typing skill)

ParsleyLion1 · 02/11/2011 20:08

How odd fish who would have thought of that Confused Though I suppose the throwing up bit might be the indication. Mind you not sure that it would still have occurred to me - OH always throws up when he has a bad cough.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 02/11/2011 20:21

Ooh yes, fish - love of reading is essential! Good call. Glad the Gaviscon helped, too.

And I hope LO gets my dad's and DH's linguistic ability with other languages.

addictediam · 02/11/2011 20:40

What do I want dc to inherit? That's a really tough one! Dd has inherited stubbornness from Dhs side, I really hope this one doesnt! But i think Dhs acidemic brain (although my arts and crafty one isn't all that bad as i can see things different from dh) and my looks and build rather than short and larger on Dhs side!
Tbh what ever they inherit from us they will be great! Dh and I complement each other as we are so different so I can only hope they find someone that complements them and respects them. Cheesy I know!

shonnomanom · 02/11/2011 20:58

Oh very good topic!!

Dd found blonde curly hair somewhere, not too sure where that came from Hmm but it would be nice for this baby to have the same gorgeous hair. Although I must second the hope for baby not to inherit the stubborn gene. Admittidly this is mine and not dp's and it has caused many an issue between dd and I as neither of wants to give in first. Did I mention that she is only 3yo. Im dreading her being a teenager - whats the chances that she will grow out of her stuborness ?!?! Hmm

So it turns out baby LOVES korma! Very excited baby in their this evening.

Hope everyone is ok and the gaviscon is working x

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 02/11/2011 21:03

Both of us are stubborn. No chance Sproglet won't be just as stubborn, if not doubly so! Fun fun fun.

ParsleyLion1 · 02/11/2011 21:34

Maybe it's the almonds sho (at least I think it's almonds in korma - maybe cashews). I had a bowl of almonds earlier and it had a similar effect. I was in fact testing the almonds vs heartburn theory. My conclusion was that it works for a bit but that gaviscon lasts a lot longer.

ParsleyLion1 · 02/11/2011 21:37

On the negative side I'm not sure if I would prefer LO to have my rare but explosive temper flashes or OH's ability to sulk for ages until chivvied out of it.

Oeisha · 02/11/2011 21:40

Evening all!

fish Yay! At least you've found a cause....will come to mine later as I managed to get a dr apt, but needless to say, we're symptom twins again.

red grief! I hope your friend's ok.

brownwolf glad 30wk checkup was good. My next one's at 31 wks. At least I know I'll get a good hooving as Abi hates the doppler.

cakes hoorah for bus stops!

Doc is going with the heartburn/indigestion theory for me for now. I have a large bottle of gaviscon and have some rennies for being on the hoof. I'm to take it an hour after eating and again in the middle of the night if needed. Has also built myself a ramp of pillows as being propped up should help...apparently.
Also managed to finally get some bloody codeine. They could sell me 5mg with paracetamol BUT not 5mg on it's own...hey ho. I have some now. Also managed to get a wonky mole looked at....turns out I've just scraped the bugger off totally and I'm just waiting for the hole to heal. Who'd have thought there was a use to pregnancy clumsiness?!

Fascinating thingy that babies do, especially baby girls btw. They are more likely to look alike their fathers early on and then grow to look more like their mums as it means Dad is more likely to stay around and help out, rather than abandoning baby. Fascinating evoultionary trick. Also men are more likely to question the paternity of girls than they are boys, so, that may explain why girl babies do it more obviously that boy babies!

Traits I'd like Abi to inherit from me? Emm, boobs? Hopefully not as mental as mine, but, well having not had them at all as a teen (took 'til I was late 15s to get beyond an AAA), and then growing them, I can say having them is mostly, quite nice. DH has a great arse and legs and a nice nose and eyes. I don't really like me, but I am at least usually relatively intelligent, honest and open. Don't really care mind you. Just want my baby girl to be happy.

For anyone with a cat btw: look out for changes in their meows. Esp is this is a first baby. They cleverly adapt their mewos to a siilar frequency to babie's cries, so we pay them more attention! Crafty critters.

P.S jealous of the mild curry eating Envy. Not been able to eat one for months. Vommit it up every time.

shonnomanom · 02/11/2011 23:17

Iv also Freud the almond fighting heartburn theory. And will agree that gaviscon has a longer lasting effect. However, we did discover that dp is allergic to almonds. He's never had a reaction to them in food but he pinched a few out the packet and his lips went swollen. The same thing happened the other week with a hazelnut. Strange to develop a nut allergy in your 30s don't you think

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 03/11/2011 07:27

Ugh. Rotten fucking night. Didn't get to sleep till past 2am because it didin;t matter which way I lay I was getting such bad dizzy spells I felt sick and the room span. Eventually managed to build myself a pillow nest so I could lie on my front and the spins stopped, so I went to sleep like that. Sooooo tired now.

Parsley - go for the temper. Sulkers are awful to live with! Far better to have a brief clash and sort everything out.

ghosteditor · 03/11/2011 09:45

not good cakes! Has the dizziness worn off now? Maybe you should allow yourself a mid-morning nap? We expect you at top form at the meet up tonight Grin

Anyone else getting lots of Higgs-Bosons at the moment? I'm having several very noticeable ones each day - not at all painful, but my belly goes hard and it feels so strange. Stressy eyelid is back too. This week is my first official 4 day week and I think I'm ready for it!

mrsamerican · 03/11/2011 10:09

My hubs is 6'7" with an enormous head and was 11 lbs at birth, so naturally, I'd like our baby to be nothing like him.

Also, apparently, most babies look like their fathers as newborns. This is an evolutionary response to keep the dads from eating/killing them, so I've read.

Fryn · 03/11/2011 10:22

MrsA - 11lbs?? Good heavens - let's definitely hope for some more petite genes!

ghost Yep, my Higgs Bosons are ramping up - having one right this moment in fact! And they're interviewing 2 more people this arvo for my job, so the commando roll is back on! Although I fear I might get stuck on my bump at a crucial moment.

oiesha - keep an eye on your cats when you're close to your due date - if they start going a bit odd it might mean you're about to go into labour. At least I presume it's all animals - my hamsters went mental just before I went into labour last time!

Parsley DH and are the most enormous sulkers - I'd go for temper every time. The eternal strops are dreadful.

Glad to hear Gaviscon could be the answer to all ills - I'm pretty sure my cough is down to post nasal drip (mmmm), but may well try Gaviscon and see if it helps.

GiraffeAHolic · 03/11/2011 11:33

Grin did anyone else just subconsciously cross their legs when they read mrsA's 11lb story?

I'm glad other people are guzzling Gaviscon now too. I'm getting through the big prescription bottles one a week (actually must go and pick up a bottle today).

Higgs Bosons here too, and then after a few of them baby goes absolutely lairy!

Dd has gone through stages of looking like the spitting image of me and dh at different points in the her 3.5 years. Although just got her nursery photos and she looks nothing like either of us and STILL has pure blonde hair!

Actually going shopping Saturday to get some baby stuff :)

ghosteditor · 03/11/2011 11:37

fryn I'm sure you could make the failed commando roll work with a breezy comment about pregnancy hormones or some such Grin.

mrsA oh my word, 11lbs! I guess you'll get some indication in the later stages of what they're predicting for the baby's size? I was 6lbs 5 and DH wasn't much bigger as we were both early, so I have the usual first-timer feeling that the baby will arrive earlier than the due date. I'll be going mental if I go overdue! Did you know that the average first time baby arrives at EDD + 5?

PS did we decide on a new thread title? Only 27 posts to go and I see that the Feb ladies have already moved on to their 3rd trimester thread! [nosy]

ghosteditor · 03/11/2011 11:39

xpost giraffe - glad to hear from you and Fryn that it's not just me. My little one seems to like curling up on the left side of my bump (looking down) and having legs and arms on the right side, so I get lots of weird protrusions on the right side of my bump. Exactly like in Alien Grin

GiraffeAHolic · 03/11/2011 11:43

This little one seems to favour the right hand side, that side of my bump generally sticks out further. We played target practice with maltesers the other night Grin
