Hello, hope no one minds if I barge in mid-pregnancy! I'm Heather, 27, 26wks+4 with baby number 1 (and only!). Baby boy is due 12th Jan.

Nanny01 · 10/10/2011 12:40

Hi
nice to see someone new hope your pregnancy journey is a smooth one. I am also expecting a boy who we will call Eliot. Due 1st of jan but i am hoping will arrive at least a week late for my sanity and so dh can make the most of his paternity leave as he has to take the xmas week of as a compulsory week

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 10/10/2011 12:44

Welcome easilybored - that's three of us who are 27/28 and due on the 12th jan now!

Why the 'and only'? :)

EasilyBored · 10/10/2011 12:45

Baby is currently has no name. Since we can't agree on any names, the poor creature is likely to be 'baby' till he's 18! Pregnancy is going pretty well so far, harder than I thought it would be, but only a couple of months left now! I'm hoping our's isn't too late as it'll be tricky for dh to take time off at the very end of Jan, but I suppose it will come when it feels like it.

EasilyBored · 10/10/2011 12:47

Haha, April must have been a busy month! The 'and only' bit - we've always said we only wanted the one, and although I think I've been pretty lucky so far in that I have had a generally OK time being pregnant, I can't even imagine how people do it when they have other kids, it's just exhausting!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 10/10/2011 12:50

I blame the double bank holidays!

And yes, I'm absolutely shattered too. Are you working FT?

EasilyBored · 10/10/2011 12:55

Yup, although my mat cover is starting next week so I can spend a while handing stuff over and getting her up to speed. Are you working?

ghosteditor · 10/10/2011 13:19

Hi easilybored! I'm also due Jan 12th Wink

Just waiting to board my flight to Frankfurt now - seems like everyone here is heading for the book fair! Can't see anyone I know though Grin

Am totally drained from yesterday's hospital visit, and all I did was lie on a hospital bed for 3 hours - these pregnancy emotions are just so damn draining... Here's hoping that another night of sleep will fix me.

Any decisions on the driving cakes?

shonnomanom · 10/10/2011 13:52

Welcome and congrats easily we do have a stats thread somewhere. Il have a wee look for it so you can add yourself.

fish your poor friend. If it helps any, a friend of my boss had a 1in5 chance of downs with both pregnancies and both girls are perfectly healthy. The boy I look after has downs. He got off to tricky start, had to stay in hospital for the first 7ish weeks. Had several ops including one for a hole in his heart. Now 9yo he is 95%healthy but still has the occassional health concerns like any child. With a good support system and lots of knowledge she should be ok. IME kids with downs are the kindest most entertaining people around. I might be a bit biased though Wink. Ps, if she does decide to go ahead then tell her to find out about local schools. Clubs etc as early as poss. Knowledge is power x

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 10/10/2011 14:07

ghost - best of luck with the trip! I've decided I'll stick with the local journeys for now - it's just too crucial to my work to not get out and about, but to really gee myself up before I get in the car and to do my little old lady driving when in the car.

OMG - I've been working so hard today. Have a new client and it's really scary to be out here on my own working for her, but exciting too. Just hope it works out

Fryn · 10/10/2011 14:10

Afternoon all!

Goodness, you've been busy again!

scrambled - I was leaning over the bedhead and still had a 2nd degree tear - gravity didn't help in my case! Hoping the fact that as I now have a "bucket vag" as DH "affectionately" calls it may help this time!!

fish - I feel so much for your friend. I hope she has the support she needs to make the decision that's right for her.

ghost apparently the German air traffic controllers may be on going on strike, so it may be a quiet fair! Hopefully see you there, presuming they don't!

easilybored - welcome!

DH is driving my nuts at the moment - he's insisted we repaint DD's room (which was badly painted because he made such a hash of it last time), and keeps stropping that I'm not helping out. He's now insisting that I finish painting it tonight, presumably in between making DD's dinner, our dinner, packing for the book fair, reading up my presentations and getting some sleep at some point. God he's such a tw*t sometimes! He's utterly lovely for 5 months then he has a week of being a moron, then he's lovely again - must be his hormones!

Anyway, sorry I've forgotten what was written on the last 2 pages, but I hope you're all ok, despite the various scares etc!

miamama09 · 10/10/2011 16:35

sorry - rant alert coming up!

So pissed off with work! again! Worked through my lunch, because my car is in the garage. I didn't know it was going to take them so long to fix it. So, technically entitled to leave early to pick it up - the garage closes at 5pm too. But - my manager emailed me to say I have to 'leave as late as possible, to "cause minimal disruption"'!

Also, put a holiday request to take a few remaining days before my mat leave starts. She emailed me again saying 'I'll look at it properly tomorrow, but when are you planning on returning to work after your maternity leave'? I was just blunt in my reply: 'I've advised HR I plan on taking the standard 9 months, and will play it by ear regarding anything beyond/inside of this time'.
What does she want me to say - I'll be back within 4 weeks? And what does that have to do with my holiday request?

Argh, I swear, being preggers and working in this place - I have never craved Wine during the week so much!

I don't think I am being unreasonable, what's unreasonable is making a 6 month pregnant woman work through her lunch break without so much as a 5min break all day! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Sorry - as you were!

redheadbedhead · 10/10/2011 16:53

ohmia what an arse of a day!! have a tiny Wine

welcome to the thread easily Smile

so fryn and ghost are you both going to the same book fair?? thats so crazy and nice! sorry your DH is being an twat tho fryn! tell him to stick the paint up his arse!

addicted and ghost sorry to read about your scares Sad hope you're both doing ok today.

I tried to go to work today but nearly fainted on the tube...got a bit further, ie to my correct stop, and then suddenly felt sick. Tried to reach the door to get out but it was too late and I puked up all over my shoes and the tube train SadSadBlushShock
i was so embarrassed and upset. needless to say i cleaned myself up and went straight back home. no work for me. don't know what's wrong with me at the moment, I don't feel like myself at all what with the crazy ribs and everything. guess i'm just pregnant! haven't been sick since august though so i'm a bit Confused

somebody was asking upthread about what's wrong with epidurals and the like - this is obviously my first baby so I speak from absolutely no experience whatsoever but I've done a lot of research now, and it all started with this film:www.thebusinessofbeingborn.com/

I actually watched it free on an online free documentary site, but now I can't find it. It might be this here but you have to download a plugin first.

AMAZING film. And that lead me on to reading Ina May Gaskin, and then Jane Balaskas active birth stuff, and then getting a doula and trying to give birth at home without any of the drugs and lying down that happens in hospital sometimes. I think it's so good to be informed, so at least you know what your options are, whatever you then decide to do.

shonnomanom · 10/10/2011 17:13

The January babies Stats Thread as promised

Sorry to hear of the shitty days some of you are having. And red sorry to hear of your tube experience x

Birth: I started with a Tens machine(which was great) then had Gas & Air(which I didnt like) eventually asked for Pethidine(which worked wonders). But between that and exhaustion I don t really remember much of that day. I did ask for the epi when the pethidene started to wear off but was actually crowning by this point so didnt get it.
Gave birth on my back and only needed one internal stitch according to the student mw tending to me.
Totally agree that OH MUST be by my side for the whole experience.
Im planning on having a chat with mw on Wednesday about a waterbirth. Is OH allowed in the pool with me?

Manuka Honey: I asked in a health store today for this and was refused it. Apparently the suckers say on the packaging not for use in pregnancy/breastfeeding. And the actually honey only says not for children under 1yo. I left the shop a bit confused. Going to look into it...

redheadbedhead · 10/10/2011 17:17

i'm not sure if OHs are allowed in the pool in hospital? they are at home. we plan to wallow around naked with each other quite a lot (maybe send the doula out of the room for a bit first!!)

shonnomanom · 10/10/2011 17:20

ok so the so called expert in the health food shop is a twat. One simple google search boasts about how safe Manuka Honey is in Pregnancy

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 10/10/2011 17:25

redhead - maybe you've caught this sickness bug that's going round? Hope you feel better soon
x

Fryn · 10/10/2011 17:40

red - oh you poor thing! At least people won't think you're hungover (well, hopefully not - those judgemental stares really wouldn't be worth considering!) And yes, I may well tell DH to stick his paint where the sun don't shine!

mia your manager is such a cow! Breathe deeply and just think of the 9 months you'll have without her.

Right ho ladies, probably won't be around until next week now, but will hopefully meet up with ghost sometime in our cram packed schedules, so I'll get a small MN dose. Keep well!

fishandlilacs · 10/10/2011 18:29

addicted and ghost sorry to read about your scares, hope you're both doing ok today.

Welcome to the Jan clubeasilybored. I too am due Jan 12th but expecting an elective c so maybe earlier.

Thanks for all your nice messages about my friend, a further update this evening brings the very sad news that she is letting go of the pregnancy.

Her 4d scan on saturday showed lots of anomolies that could or couldn't be attributed to downs or gestational age-it was very inconclusive. Combined with her age and her previous chromosomal history they immediately put her in a very high category risk. 1-2 chance. She decided to go for CVS, they took her in today gave her a further scan prior to CVS with a consultant and expert sonographer and they detected more heart anomolies-only one heart chamber. The CVS wasn't done in the end-the defects are clear enough for them to base the decision on the scan. The verdict is that the baby was not developing properly and unlikely to survive. They will terminate later this week.

I'm so sad for her-I don't even know what to say. I have cried for her. Utterly unfair that she has had to go through this twice. How is she even going to be able to spend time with me and my blooming belly? She is such a dear kind friend. Were very close. It's just sickeningly unfair.

redheadbedhead · 10/10/2011 18:41

oh how sad fish Sad good lord, what a decision to have to make Sad

Wormshuffler · 10/10/2011 18:44

I'm so sorry fish for your friend. It's un imaginable, and I am currently feeling very angry for her that people who smoke drink and take drugs through pg have healthy babies yet your friend can't. It's so unfair Angry

fishandlilacs · 10/10/2011 18:48

Thank you red.

I know, worm you can't think like that, it would drive you insane. When we were TTC for dd and this one I was working with pot head teens who seemed to get pregnant at the drop of a pair of knickers. They used to drive me mad.

She has one healthy boy who is 3.5, he's a little star, but the existence of one child doesn't diminish the want for another.

SlightlyScrambled · 10/10/2011 18:49

Welcome Easily

Must have a look at Ina May Gaskin's book so. Sounds like necessary reading. Thanks Cakes and Nanny for your advice. Much appreciated. I was on my back in hospital last time and got too many stitches and a damaged coccyx that made recovery from labour a bit of a nightmare.

Interesting about the 3rd stage. My placenta wasn't moving after 30 mins and the mw's did reflexology on my feet and that got it out without any injections.

Fish that is so sad about what your friend is going through. My heart goes out to her too.

ghosteditor · 10/10/2011 18:49

Fish my heart goes out to your friend - wishing her well.

Red, what a day! Hope you're feeling better now?

fryn we were indeed delayed by strikes but only by 30 mins or so in the end. The pilot said the strike was supposed to end at midday today, and our delay was just catching up. Was surrounded by book fair people on the flight and am currently one table over from the doyenne of the rights world, trying not to eavesdrop. I know her from a course but she definitely doesn't know me!

Anyway, am here, feeling ok, and just need to crack on now. Looks like I'll have wireless at the hotel so won't be completely cut off.

redheadbedhead · 10/10/2011 18:57

scrambled she's written a few but the best one is the Guide to Childbirth - amazing birth stories but loads of technical and useful info too, and much less hippy than Spiritual Midwifery ( altho i loved that too Smile)
