Hiya all,

addicted i get very cross when I hear of such parenting-I looking long and hard into unconditional parenting with dd and I do buy into a lot of the principles behind it I hate to hear of it being misinterpreted in the way you describe, no where within the theory is it ok to allow your children to destroy household stuff without learning a lesson from it be that a consequence of some sort such as talking to them about thier choice rather than a time out. The knives thing shoud only be done within safe adult supervision. DD has access to knives from a young age but not willy nilly, when we were cooking I would supervise her closely. People who buy into it tend to be quite evangelical about it too, Very annoying. My kids, my rules........etc.

been fantasising about scampi all day stems from being bloody ravenous while had my g.t.t this morning, that was dullsville. boring boring, thankfullly the blood came relatively easily, but i was still in the hospital for 3.5 hours in the end.

oiesha again we share a symptom-backache is beastly, but today i have been a little better. Driving kicks it off everytime.

I remember seeing an interview with Grace Jones once and although I can't say for sure that this was her parenting approach, she did say that she never says No to her child. So if he wanted to jump off a building, she'd say 'Yes, and you'll die when you hit the ground'. Came across as a bit barmy to say the least.

Oeisha · 14/10/2011 18:23

fish Maybe we'll have bubbas on the same day? We shall see! Abi's trying to get out now I think, she's been very squirmy all day.

Speaking of which. I'm beginning to get a bit paranoid about Little Miss. She's usually quiet when I'm at work, but she' been very consistently active all day, mostly kind alike she's trying to screw into my cervix/bladder or feeling like she's transverse, but the wrong kind of transverse...like head on spine, feet on belly button, standing up transverse. Also, pattern of momvements
Thurs 1700-2000 30
Thurs 2000-2300 33
Thurs 2300-0800 me asleep, solidly asleep, usually get a few nerfings.
Fri 0800-1100 31
Fri 1100-1400 9
Fri 1400-1700 5 - very uncomfy screwing into bladder, tight, possibly turning

  • making 108 (13 movements since 1700 too - but different day count now). Previous days: 94, 69,113, 56 (v.tired),71, 93 Guess writing it down it doesn't seem to unusual, it's just the uncomfy-ness and the activity during work.

Hey ho.

I hope we've all had ok days otherwise.

shonnomanom · 14/10/2011 19:05

That sounds more like lazy parenting rather than anything else. I'm all in favour of letting kids explore and experience new things, but always under supervision.

Baby woke me quite a few times during the night. Babes had turned round from head down to breach. Then persisted in kicking and punching utter hell out of me until he/she got comfy again. Which has taken most of today tbh. It felt quite unnatural and I felt a bit sickly as a result. Wearing a mat belt with a head sticking into it is not pleasant.
Here's to a better nights sleep X

fishandlilacs · 14/10/2011 20:40

Have you seen this offer on bounty www.babymamabags.co.uk/products/5-hospital-bags.aspx

It looks almost too good to be true-what do you think?

OP posts:
redheadbedhead · 14/10/2011 20:54

Hey ladies
Just wondering how do you all know which way round the baby is?? I've been trying to work it out but can't. Is that cos I'm some weeks behind the rest of you?
Spent quite a long time (whilst crying fairly hysterically and pointlessly for totally unrelated reasons) on all fours last night with my bum in the air trying to move Piglet out from my cervix because he was kicking it so bloody hard. Must have looked like a raving lunatic..... the JOY of being pregnant

fishandlilacs · 14/10/2011 21:04

redhead I have no idea, I think he's still moving about-I get the impression when I lie on my side that he still falls to the bottom as it were because he kicks like crazy. I get strong movements both top and tail and deep inside my cervix so i think it's impossible to tell. I just put it down the the fact i'm quite fat and can't feel the diffeence between head and bum when he's close to the surface.

OP posts:
EasilyBored · 14/10/2011 21:45

Red I don't really know which way round the little dude is, except that today there was something really pointy up high that meant I couldn't bend down, and then later on there was something really big and hard in my side - his head or bum maybe? I can't tell from the outside (fish I feel you on the bit fat comment, I do wonder if my chubb is making it harder to feel the movements from the outside).

Has anyone else's partner felt the movements? DH keeps feeling, but it's like as soon as he puts his hands on my belly the baby refuses to perform.

Got myself one of those giant pregnancy pillows after waking up in total agony this morning. I just can't get comfy, my hips hurt, my pelvis hurts, my back hurts and the only comfy position to sleep in is on my back - but that's not good for the baby and my legs go numb after a while. Here's hoping the pillow helps.

ParsleyLion1 · 14/10/2011 22:03

red I was going to ask the same. I'm right at the end of Jan so a bit behind most people here. I have no idea. When I lie on my side in bed it seems like she drops with gravity but that's about it. The bishings I get move about all the time- but that's why she is generally squiggler. Smile

We went for a curry tonight. I swear my belly jumped on its own at the table. I don't know if it was squigglepants or some kind of bh contraction

shonnomanom · 14/10/2011 22:23

On wednesday when the mw was examining me she said head was down so I had a wee squeeze to check what she meant. Babies movements seem to be only top and bottom. Never at the sides, which was why last night was so weird.
The movement at the top of bump seems to be smaller and more frequent so I'm guessing that's legs moving.
I'm so unbelievably uncomfortable today. I hope baby calms down before tommorrow as we need to drive to aderdeen, about 3hours max.
Can there be such a thing as too much movement.?

ParsleyLion1 · 15/10/2011 07:48

I hope it calms down for you today shonno

Oeisha · 15/10/2011 08:55

Mornin all!
shon hope LO's gonna give you a break whilst you drive.

There is such a thing as too much movement (hense my concerned post yesterday, hadn't eaten anything unusual etc), but I think they've still got comparatively lots of space at the moment, so they may be less concerned. If you're worried call MW.

I also can't work out WTF Abi's doing at the moment. Some kicks up and left (usually right) and lots of stronger stuff near cervix and bladder...like shon describes. Also assume this is head down, hooves up, but an also getting nerfs just below belly button (punches?-maybe back to back???). After the sheer uncomfortableness of yesterday I wonder if she's been pirouetting in there and she's just deliberatly trying to confuse me. Over night, it all seemed very low (transverse, hooves down - what MW guessed at 25wks and what I thought then). I get the feeling my anterior placenta's kind of, well, stick your hand by belly button on the right upper 1/4 and that's where I get least movement, but can SEE she's poking occasionally. But, it feels like she can't be right now, what with being poked both ends...typical...shouldn't complain. At least she's moving about!

We have a day of family nesting. FIL and MIL are coming over to do things. DH's all wound up to nest too. I might tackle Abi's room and my bead stash but I'm really not getting the nesting bug.

Suppose I'd better go shower.

trubble · 15/10/2011 09:18

Today is pretty much going to be a write off for getting things done round the house. Rugby followed by rugby means not a chance of getting anything done. Oh well - at least we have tomorrow.
DH felt bubs move this morning :) seems to be you can feel more by having your hand on my belly than I can actually feel - had to do my own little experiment! Lots of movement but can only tell from the outside - really wierd.

fishandlilacs · 15/10/2011 10:03

Morning,

flu ujab arm is up like an egg and I'm feeling poo, a friend has invited DD over to play with her son so thats a godsend as DH is busily building the cupboard and I have loads of paper work to do.
He hopes it will be finished today. I'm actually really impressed with him-he's a self confessed DIY dodger, he hates it with a passion but my new cupboard is lovely and smart and nicely designed. Just goes to show he can do it.

The house is a pigsty otherwise but I don't mind for now.

Morning. Quite pleased this morning. We've had builders in for the last 13 wks building an extension The kitchen is being fitted next week and we've had a concrete floor laid. It takes ages to dry but the flooring man has been this morning and it's dry enough to lay the floor once the kitchen is in. So pleased because we could have been delayed another 4-6 weeks waiting for it to dry. Now I can see an end in sightSmile

addictediam · 15/10/2011 11:13

Morning all we are a busy bunch today! I'm stripping wall paper today and praying the plaster under can just be sanded down rather than replastered! Hoping to finish painting her room by next week.

Shonn hope the baby moves soon for you.

It wasn't too bad at friends yesterday, her older boys were at nusery and playschool and heryoyngest was having a nap. I took another friend with me who has a 3 week old, after 15 minutes she was crying and by 30 we had to go as she was screaming. I had a lovely afternoon in the park with them remembering the hasey, grotty, just can't do this im a hormonal wreck wonderful newborn days!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 15/10/2011 12:28

ghost - glad you're coping and it's all nearly over now!

fish - yay for the new cupboard

addicted and other nesters - very impressed with your hard work chaps. We have a rented flat, so not much in the way of DIY to do - plus side of renting.

Went to NCT nearly new sale today - spent about £30 on hard books, wooden toys (like shape sorter ones and tool bench so Sproglet can copy daddy) and a bucket of Duplo and Talking Thomas train (though I suspect those last 2 are actually for DH to play with!)

Now I just have to disinfect them all and find somewhere for them to live. Tum ti tum.

ParsleyLion1 · 15/10/2011 14:59

So done a bit of wedding planning today - thanks to cakes :) I have a date (19/11) - just need to confirm the registry office slot is still free on Monday. I've ordered a completely different dress in the end - I was worried the Grace short one would be too short and the long one (which I really liked) was out of stock in my size. I've ordered this one. It's a bit more but quite dramatic and looks like I might even be able to wear it afterwards - I'll see when it arrives and send it back otherwise.

shonnomanom · 15/10/2011 15:41

Love the dress parsley!
So we arrived at the hotel to find that we had been upgraded to a luxurious suite!! Very nice indeed! Grin
I think baby has found some steal toe boots and gloves lined with steal. Think its probably on some Duracell as well.
Yes,p kick and punch to let me know your ok but don't batter hell out me for no reason please

fishandlilacs · 15/10/2011 17:22

OOh parsley, that is an extremely pretty dress-how lovely. Very exciting. and wedding times squeeeeeeeeee!

OP posts:
ParsleyLion1 · 15/10/2011 17:34

I'm trying not to get too squeee just incase the times have gone.

Not sure what we will do after. It depends how many people can come. If it's small we can do lunch/ dinner somewhere if larger I think we will just do it at home. Grin

addictediam · 15/10/2011 17:41

My uncle had his reception at my parents home a few years back, it was really lovely and very relaxed. How exciting a thread wedding!

ScaredtheDeesusOutofMe · 15/10/2011 17:58

Love the dress Parsely. It's gorgeous!

Mum2be79 · 15/10/2011 20:46

Parsleylion1
Interesting to know of your extension. We're starting our kitchen extension in March and I had no idea how long they would take to build - even how long a concrete floor takes to dry!

addicted I have a friend who is like that although she does discipline. She's not exactly house proud (I have to find the sofa to sit on and we're lucky to see a carpet). She's a star though. Will do anything for you. She's never been one for cleaning and tidying up even before she married and had kids. She is a bit of a hoarder too. Her children are the most well behaved and politest children I have come across (at least they're also clean and tidy and don't smell either!)

My anti-D was NOT in the bum! Horray! It was in my upper arm. I don't need one at 34 weeks as York Hospital give you a longer one to last. It was more uncomfortable than flu jabs and having blood taken but not painful enough to squint and go "Ow!" (Although the woman before me did scream a little and at that point I had no idea it was in the arm and not the bum so naturally began to panic, sweat and shake somewhat!) It was sad to see a teenage girl (possibly about 15) in the clinic although she had support from her mum and her younger sister. (She certainly looked better turned out than me!)

Today I have been having uncomfortable feelings in groin/pelvis/lower tummy area. They were coming every 10-15 mins (irregular) and lasting up to 30 seconds (worse on standing and walking) and was beginning to think Braxton Hicks??? They've settled down after a bath but considering they came after a heavy day walking through Beverley and a slight 'leak' (which I think was discharge but caught me by surprise), I have no idea. A bath has sorted it. But I am feeling heavy down below and movements have changed to a 'pirate ship' feeling of twists and turns!?!? MW did say on Wednesday that the head was quite low down - think it still is!

ParsleyLion1 · 15/10/2011 20:56

Thanks guys Smile

mum2be I think you can estimate 12-14 weeks usually. Ours is a bit longer because we are co-ordinating with next door and building at the same time to save a bit of money.

Luckily we only lost the kitchen completely about 3 weeks ago but next door has been without kitchen for about 8 weeks.

The concrete floor drying is only an issue for some floor coverings. I think just wood or vinyl. Tiles would be ok much sooner. We've had under floor heating which has dried it a bit faster.
