Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
zambooloo · 14/10/2011 20:32

Hi all, I rarely post on here but I've been lurking in the background since the beginning. I'm just getting a bit worried as everyone keeps saying how small my bump is. I'm only 5ft2 and my DP is taller but not v tall so I'm not expecting to have a big baby. I'm 30 weeks now and someone said the other day 'ooh you'd hardly know you were pregnant' - comments like that just worry me that something is wrong! Last time I saw a dr was 28 weeks - she said I was measuring 26cm (she didn't say that was small but I think you're mean't to measure same as your dates, so 28cm at 28 weeks). Does anyone have any experience of anything like this?

Thanks for your help!

OiMissus · 14/10/2011 20:52

Hi zamboo, nothing to worry about there, I'd say. You should be the same cm as you number of weeks plus or minus 2-3cm.
At 28 wks, I measured 34. At 32wks, I measured 33. I don't think the measurements count for much!
The baby is still kicking the stuffing out of me, that feels pretty healthy!

aethelfleda · 14/10/2011 20:53

Hi zambooloo, I've had the same all the way through this time- comments ranging from "my, you're neat/compact" to "are you sure you're that pregnant, are your dates right?". This is my 3rd baby and the other two didn't get me any of these comments! And I'm a size 16-18, so not small usually.

External appearences are totally innaccurate, as the size of your bump is baby+swimming pool+overlying flab (!) which are all very variable. Even the midwife measurements are only rough (they can be 3cm out, so 26 cm is Ok at 29 weeks). So rather than bump size, look at your 20 week scan report and you'll see lots of measurements marked on there: look at femur length
(leg length) and abdominal girth (tummy size). If they are 50% then you've got a middling size baby, all is fine!

jigglebum · 14/10/2011 20:58

HI - I keep getting told I am very neat or small as well but I am measuring about right - I think bumps can look very different on different people and everyone carries differently, but it does make you a bit paranoid doesn't it!

sevensevenseven · 14/10/2011 21:17

Definitely agree that the measurements don't seem too accurate. I've got an enormous bump (and has last time with a tiny baby!), I've outgrown my size 16 maternity jeans as they no longer fit comfortably around my bump but I haven't got bigger anywhere else so I met be completely out of proportion. Despite this my bump is somehow measuring 2 weeks behind.

Highs
Tesco opened here today, now we might actually be able to get bread and milk when I send DH to the shop on the way home from work, co-op have always ran out by then!
I've ordered DH a new laptop as a Christmas/birthday/starting his own business present, can't wait to see his face when I give it to him.

Lows
Back is killing me and I've been getting a strange pain on the lower left side of my bump, although I think it's too close to my hip to be anything worrying.

Kitty5824 · 14/10/2011 21:34

Hi everyone.

No internet access for 10 days, I finally get back on line to find a new thread and 14 pages of posts. Seriously??!!

To many things to specifically comment on, I'm just too tired...

6 weeks or 21 shifts till mat leave begins...hate my job, can't wait to leave [hwink]

kri5ty · 14/10/2011 23:20

I'm with most people having lows-
Full of a cold and sore throat
Can't sleep at night, tend to drift off at 4am
Hips particularly bad tonight

highs-
NCT classes this weekend (not a high in itself, but OH is off all weekend, and isn't doing anything else)

HoneyLovesCake · 15/10/2011 09:22

Morning all!

So busy at the mo' with work; I'm keeping up with the thread but trying not to post too often.

Yesterday's High: Double Glazing finally fitted in our garden room; I've been waiting years for this as we live in house owned by FIL & apparently it takes a pregnancy to get anything done around here [hhmm] Anyway it's transformed the room from freezing cold & unusable & warmed up the rest of the house too. It's actually pretty toasty in my living room which I didn't think was possible [hsmile]

Yesterday's Low: This one is a biggie...prepare yourselves! I punctured my birthing ball [hshock] & after desperately scrambling around to find some way to fix it (& failing) I burst into tears [hsad] Seriously though I'm kind of gutted. I haven't sat on a chair since I got it; I work 12 hours a day sat on that ball & it stops my back from going into spasm...now I have a day of work & backache to look forward too :(

Oh well...better get to it!

figgygal · 15/10/2011 09:56

Morning all baby purchase of the morning will be a nappy bin DH has decided he needs to have one for overnight changes so the house doesn't smell I shall indulge him.

Off to a wedding this afternoon and evening q lots of concern about shoe choices heels may kill me flats will make look dumpy ooh decisions decisions. Found a floaty dress in the wardrobe from years ago that I don't tend to wear as makes me look pregnant but am glad I kept it as it fits and has saved me buying a mat dress I'd wear once Grin

mopsytop · 15/10/2011 10:25

Morning everyone. Oi I am SO sorry to hear your bad news, that sucks SO much, especially when you were so happy and excited.

I got loads of stuff from friend yesterday, tons of clothes and bits, going to look through it now - don't think I will have to buy a single item of clothing until baby is 9 months old!!!!! And my MIL offered to buy the buggy when the times comes - yay!

OiMissus · 15/10/2011 13:29

Hi everyone,
High: glorious sunshine! Just back from 3 hr wander around the woods as DH and nephew did Go Ape. We all enjoyed it, and came home to guzzle homemade pork pies and sandwiches. [hgrin]
And we started this morning with a bit of bedroom activity, too! Wink
Sorry to hear about popped balls and sore hips.
We're going to build the tallboy for the nursery next.Smile And I'll continue to forget about Springfield. Sad
Enjoy the wedding! Hope you've got the same weather as here, it's perfect sun and blue skies! Have a great weekend all! X

LittleMissFlustered · 15/10/2011 13:47

Today I gave mostly procrastinated[hgrin]

I am now going into battle with the festering heap of laundry in the utility room. I have two rolls of bin liners, am in a merciless mood and my cheesy Rocky Horror CD came in the post this morning. The world stands no chance[hwink]

msbuggywinkle · 15/10/2011 14:11

Happy Saturday! We went out for a full English this morning, we have a lovely cafe up the hill run by a very sweet Italian family. We than spent an hour or so swapping over the DD's clothes to their winter stuff. Now tea and knitting!

Xiaoxiong · 15/10/2011 14:25

The sunshine is lovely - I haven't been outside yet but all windows open to air the place out. We had our first fire of the season the other day and the living room smells of woodsmoke - lovely but a little airing never goes amiss. Nothing at all planned today - some laundry and sorting out the kitchen until DH gets home from rugby. I just hope his team wins today as he is beyond furious about the Wales game this morning.

Our neighbour apparently heard me singing in the shower this morning - I thought everyone was out and was really belting one out ( in case anyone's wondering - legacy of singing in a gospel choir at university!) - and laughed about it with DH at this morning's staff meeting. So now we know we definitely will have to sit her down and break it to her about the homebirth if the floor is really that thin!

Two bags filled, and I can almost see where I am going[hgrin]

PullyWoolOver · 15/10/2011 17:51

Sounds like you're all having lovely autumn days!

oi so sorry to hear about the house Sad.

Today's highs:
the beautiful weather
A morning breast feeding class
Lunch with the girls
Hot chocolate and snuggles with DH on the sofa
No housework or DIY all day Grin

Lows:
Bump suddenly super tight and heavy-ow
Bum ache to accompany sore hips

Cheeptrickortreat · 15/10/2011 18:17

Glad everyone having a good day Smile

We watched the Rugby this morning then DH and Air went out with the bubble wand, had lunch and then afternoon nap - Air went in his own room again Grin.

Now its Dinner, then washing up and then putting away the five bags of clean washing.

I still have a cold and its gone on my chest so not feeling great at the mo. Last night i think i had two contrations and my back started hurting - it could have been BH. I just feel really tired and ill right now. So i was up half the night and then my son got up at 6am and my DH was too tired to get up with him so i did - DH should get use to it as it will be worse with a newborn and a toddler. I think he has forgotten that he will not get any sleep for a few months Sad

zambooloo · 15/10/2011 18:47

Hi, Thank you everyone for your responses - makes me feel much better! Think I've just got to get used to everyone's comments about the bump and not let it get to me - everyone is very opinionated as soon as you are pregnant aren't they?!?

LittleMissFlustered · 15/10/2011 19:05

Chinese for tea[hgrin]

sevensevenseven · 15/10/2011 20:09

Hope everyone has had a good day, and remembered to SQUEEZE those pelvic floors. Baby is laying strangely today, my bump is slightly lopsided and quite uncomfortable, and lots of pressure on my pelvic floor.

Highs
Started knitting a very cute cardigan while DS was helping my mum in the garden.
Chinese and x-factor night, and DH bought me a big bar of fruit and nut.

Lows
Tendonitis in my hand/wrist and I can't take ibuprofen so I'm just wearing a stupid tubigrip to try and make it better.

sevensevenseven · 15/10/2011 20:55

Just choked on my rice, I've terrified DH as he had to slap my back after much coughing and gesturing. We're now wondering if it's possible to effectively perform the heimnich(sp?) manoeuvre on a heavily pregnant woman without hurting the baby.

aethelfleda · 15/10/2011 21:41

seven: def best avoided as you'd not be able to exert enough pressure. Back slaps clearly the way to go.

High today- the lovely weather.

Low- rang up my (younger) brother and he shouted at me cos he's stressed. My response was to burst into tears. He then blamed my hormones, which was probably true to some degree, but I had no idea he was feeling that hassled. . I feel bad, not for the blubbing but because I can't do anything to make him less stressed and I hate it when he's unhappy. Arg.

mopsytop · 16/10/2011 09:20

aethel not fair of him to blame your hormones when he shouted at you. Even if he's stressed, no reason to take it out on you.

plupervert · 16/10/2011 10:29

Oh, dear, aethelfleda, that's a bit harsh for you to have been shouted at. Sad However, I reckon both that he was the hormonal one and that we will all be shouted at by our hormonal children with some frequency as life with them goes on.... Speaking of guilt trips, at supper yesterday, DS told DH, "I tell Mummy no, I don't want to go to nursery, but she take me!" Little bastard. He didn't say any such thing as I was dropping him off. There was only his usual token protest first thing in the morning, which he stopped long (over 40 mins!) before we actually arrived, and then he said nothing about it when he got there.

LittleMissFlustered · 16/10/2011 11:22

Morning ladies!

I am currently sat in a chain coffee shop stealing wifi to update my iPad as the file is gargantuan! So, to appease my guilt I am forcing myself to have an enormous coffee and a toasted sandwich. How ever will I cope with myself eh? [hwink]

Hope that today is a day of highs and that the lows be banished to booville.
