.... Sorry about your worries Bushy , I hope it'll all turn out to be nothing in the end! And hope you'll feel better soon April!
To another subject , we survived the school interview , went well as far as I can tell ! The problem with the exams is we've not had much time to prepare because the weeks are so busy DS doing lots of after school( but at school) clubs and things. we've decided not to put too much pressure on him being only nearly 7 y. No tutors and no set times sitting down doing tens of bond assessment books or anything . A bit of practice on exam techniques with us ( as in doing a couple of practice papers ) and learning a few times tables etc. Luckily he can also stay at the current school until 11. This subject must seem pretty remote for you guys with toddlers :) it all doesn't really get much easier just different worries . Him being at school all day definitely makes it less tireing but I actually do miss him quite a bit when I'm all alone in the house. He does have about 16 w of holidays a year though when he's all mine:) ! Well soon enough I'll be busy again!

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 28/11/2011 13:29

I have a poorly little boy today, and I'm exhausted :(
He's had a cold, which I think he's getting over, but he is SO MISERABLE today. He's been literally hanging on my legs all morning (he'll cuddle in for about 5 seconds before getting down and crying to get back up!! Hmm) His breath is DISGUSTING so I think he might have a bad throat? He's got a bit of a cough too, so maybe even a chest infection? We're off to the doctors in the morning...

In brighter news, DH felt baba kick last night!! Grin

VintageNancy · 28/11/2011 13:46

Aww sorry about your DS Beyond - I can sympathise with him on the cold, I'm feeling grotty today! Funnily enough my DH felt a kick for the first time last night too. It was lovely :).

Nordic - Exciting that you may have a girl. Will be lovely when you find out for sure.

Awwww a son! So exciting Kat. I have a feeling we have a boy but we'll just have to wait until April to find out.

Hope everyone is okay. I'm still in chaos but hopefully once the packers have been on Thursday we'll feel like we're getting somewhere. Then leaving party on Saturday (must buy a lot of tissues). Then flying to our new home in the US on Weds. I'm not panicking. Oh no. Not at all.

bushymcbush · 28/11/2011 18:13

VintageNancy how exciting to be moving to another country - hope the packing and party go well.

Lovely to hear about everyone's successful scans. Nordicmum will you be there for your scan or will you have to enjoy it from a distance? 13th Dec will be here before you know it.

I'm trying to put our worrying news to the back of my mind. Last week was a bit of a blur really. I broke down on Friday night having spent the week 'coping'. Just had to let it out. I'm feeling a bit angry actually, at the pressure we were put under last week to have an amniocentesis. I was told it was the 'suggested' course of action, that I had to make a decision straight away and that there was 'only' a 1-2% chance of miscarriage resulting from the amnio. (If those were the odds of getting knocked down when you cross the road, you'd never do it!) And all this pressure was put on us BEFORE anyone had properly explained what the chances are that there is actually a problem and what the problem might be. The consultant we saw the next day made everything so much clearer.

On the plus side, I get to have loads more scans, probably every 4 weeks or so. I get to see my baby girl loads of times!

bushymcbush · 28/11/2011 18:15

Oooh Beyondthelimits, so jealous that your dh felt a kick! Mine hasn't got the patience to put his hand there for long enough!

Snowy27 · 28/11/2011 19:46

Hi all
Just a quick one- anyone had any experience of a 'short' cervix?
Went to Antenatal today after a few probs at the weekend and mine is a bit short- been told to take it easy at work (which is sorted now, all very understanding!) and rest at home.
Hoping it will all work out!

Bearcrumble · 28/11/2011 21:05

Snowy Not personally but it's good they've picked up on it. How often are they going to scan and check it? If it gets worryingly short they can do a circlage.

VintageNancy · 29/11/2011 16:37

Snowy - no experience here either but I agree, good they've picked up on it.

Has anyone who has given birth before had any experience with Tens machines? It seems they're not commonly used in the US so I'm thinking of buying one to take with me. The one website I've found in the US to hire them seems more expensive than they are to buy here.

HollyPockett · 30/11/2011 13:04

Had our scan yesterday and we're having a girl! The husband is over the moon!

We have to go back in a couple of weeks for another scan though as the sonographer thought that the baby's spine measurement was a little short. Still in the range that they're happy with but diva baby wouldn't lay in a proper position for her to get a 100% look.

Sorry to hear of you all feeling so ill, it's awful isn't it. I had a killer cold at about 16 weeks and felt so sorry for myself.

I have a question - when you go to have scans, do you also see the midwife? I don't, so didn't get my MATB1 form yesterday...

WhenDoISleep · 30/11/2011 15:07

Sorry for all those suffering with bugs and colds.

I had a nasty d&v bug a few weeks ago, right on the back of a horrible cough/cold, which DH also has and is only just shaking off.

The DS came down with a nasty cold as well.

Bit sad that DS has weaned now - he was down to morning and evening for the last six months, gradually dropped the evening over the last 6 weeks and then the morning too. Although he occasionally forgets and asks for boobie in the mornings, and then seems a bit puzzled when I explain there is no milk left. He did come out with a gem the other morning when we were snuggled in bed and said, "Mummy, you need to get orange juice in your boobies".

VintageNancy I had DS using a TENS machine and highly recommend them. The sensation is very strange until you get used to it but I loved it. I would receommend getting a few sets of the connector pads though, so you(or DH) can practise applying them in the right positions, also if you put it on during a false alarm you don't want to be left without. With most maternity TENS (also make sure the one you get is a maternity, not just a general pain relief) the pads are single-use only.

Uglymush · 30/11/2011 17:32

Hollypocket, I only saw the sonographer at my 19 week scan and I have to go back on Monday as baby was moving too much to get all the measurements and again I won't see a midwife. I see a midwife again on the 12th Dec and I'll be about 24 weeks so will get my MATB1 then.

LateToTheAprilParty · 01/12/2011 13:35

Hi all, haven't been on here in ages! Lots of nice scan stories. I'm also amazed some of you have held out and not found out what you're having ? seriously impressive amounts of willpower! I had 20 week (well, 19 and a bit) scan last week and ours is a boy. I think deep down I would have liked a girl (naming a girl is easier I think!) but as long as he's healthy? which he seems to be ? then I'm over the moon. Finally started to feel him kicking in the last couple of days whihc is lovely, though it's a bit sporadic at the moment and I only really feel it if I sit and concentrate! I think DH might be in for a wait before he can feel anything from the outside, and give up any dreams of DS becoming a champion footballer...
I'm not seeing a midwife for a good few months, the next few checkups are just with a GP. Maybe our hospital is just very busy. Anyone else had this?

Bunsouttheoven · 02/12/2011 16:36

Had my scan this week, we too are having a boy, must admit I will be a bit sad to have a clear out of all the girls clothes we have. Still good to see the new baby boy looks in good health.
I am due to see the midwife nxt wk (at 21wks) then not until 28wks. Think that is fairly standard? Was the same for my other dcs.

Heartburn has kicked in big time, Gaviscon my best friend once moreSmile

Bearcrumble · 02/12/2011 22:07

I'm pretty sure that GPs can give MATB1s if you need it before your next appointment, Uglymush.

Nice to hear about all the scans.

Mine is a week today as they do them at 22 weeks at my hospital. I can't wait to see the baby again.

Mackrelmint · 03/12/2011 22:02

Late - same here; no more midwife until something like 32/34 weeks, just GP. Which is a pain as I haven't looked into GPs in our new area yet. Last time didn't see a GP at all so guess different hospitals just do it different ways.

Scan went well for us on Fri - didn't find out sex, but everything looked normal apparently.

I'm meeting a doula this week coming which I'm looking forward to.

Hope you had a lovely leaving party VintageNancy and good luck for the move!

digitalgirl · 04/12/2011 17:52

Bookmarking. Haven't been here for a while.
21 weeks tomorrow. And think I felt the baby kick from the outside. Dh wasn't near enough for me to grab his hand. I guess there's plenty of time for that.
Exciting hearing about all the scans. My next mw appt is at 28 weeks - so 7 weeks to go. Then only 9 weeks after that till term. Eek, time seems to be speeding up!

Thats great news about your scan coming up soon Nordicmom i bet cant wait to hear the news again?

Sorry to hear about your problems bushy hopefull things will work out soon!

Hollypockett Your midwife or GP should give your MATB1 form around 25weeks, im getting mine on the 12/12 because i have a booked in appiontment, then i will have to sent it of asap with my MAT forms.

I can now join the ILL club, i picked a really bad cold and took a sick day from work. Plus ive been getting really achey legs, and cramp in them! anyone else?

He/she has been moving loads, and i seen my tummy move in the bath, really strange seeing that.
hubby keeps trying to feel he/she move but it seem to stop every time, LOL
When can people start feeling outside movements?

x x

Thaleia · 05/12/2011 11:17

Read along but haven't posted in a while ...

My 19(+5) weeks scan is on Friday. I'm excited but also very nervous about it. I'm thinking about all the days I forgot to take Folic Acid and what horrible things I could have done to the little bean.

We're going to find out. From the moment of conception, I thought it's going to be a boy, so it'll be weired should it be a girl, hubby thinks it's a girl and it will be his (spoiled) little princess.

I finally bought maternity clothes as nothing fits anymore and I was so uncomfortable.

Although it's already 4 months, the whole pregnancy things hasn't quite hit home yet. I still can't believe it's happening (to me!!). I hope the scan is fine and finally makes it real.

Nordicmom · 05/12/2011 14:35

bushy we're not going to be there for this next scan at 20 w next tue the 13.12. But finally booked our flights to Texas on the 3.1. Staying untill 8.1. So have a couple of days to do other things with DS after the scan. Now have to book the scan etc. Going to spend Christmas with my family in Finland 22.2-27.12. So will have a few days at home in between . Feel tired just thinking about the travelling ... And all the christmas stuff to do. Doing Christmas at home a week early with the inlaws so that's adding to the rush. Have finally gotten around to ordering a Moses basket and we tried pumping the bugaboo tires after not using it for 3 y but one has deflated so will have make sure it's not broken. I guess I'll do the rest after the school exams in the end of January before and after going away for half term . I predict a mild panic ;)

HollyPockett · 05/12/2011 15:12

Thanks for advice on MATB1 form, it's all a little confusing :)

I have a 2nd 20 week scan on 19th Dec to double measure Pip's spine. It came up "normal" in the last one but she was being a bit of a diva and wouldn't lay straight so they want to double check..

We bought some lovely little bodysuits on Saturday - I think they're bodysuits - (they have arms but no legs) and they are BRIGHT! No pastels for the Pip :) Oh and the cutest little hats and scratch mitts that I've ever seen in my life. Can't actually believe that I'm going to have a person small enough to wear them... It's all becoming very very real

JambalayaWarmMincePie · 07/12/2011 10:54

Can I please join ladies? Ive been lurking since September, but have had various health issues so didnt want to 'commit' until my 20 wks scan. I hope thats ok! :)

I had my 20wks scan yesterday, and all was well. Grin We'd hoped to find out the sex, but he/she was not forthcoming - legs were crossed and feet were above their head. It took a loooong time for the sonographer to get the measurements she needed as baby was being so awkward. :)

Im due April 22nd, and this is my 2nd - DD1 is 7years old, and I dont remember much about that pregnancy - it seems ages ago!!

KatAndKit · 07/12/2011 11:59

Hello jambalaya and congrats on a good scan!

Anyone else on here with a stinking rotten cold? I have been feeling like crap for the last three days and all I can take is a couple of Lemsips :( Have a horrendous cough and my head feels like it is stuffed with cotton wool.

Also starting to obsess about movement now, as I really don't feel all that much yet.
But am passing the time whilst feeling sick looking at online shopping. We aren't buying anything until January as we have Xmas to deal with first, but it is nice to see what is out there and get ideas. Am starting to think about prams, but they all seem sooooo expensive!

JambalayaWarmMincePie · 07/12/2011 14:13

Thanks Kat

I've had so many colds since I found out, each only lasting a couple of days, but just rubbish. :( My immune system is rubbish anyway, pregnancy seems to have brought it to its knees!

We have our pram, but only because I got an absolute local bargain on ebay -over £800 of nearly new pram - including a brand new (still in packaging) car seat, for just £100 - couldnt pass it up, but its gone into storage and we're not thinking about anything else until after Christmas!!

notso · 07/12/2011 19:01

Hello all just popping in to say hello haven't been on for a while as DH has been off work and we have been getting festive!

Had scan on Monday, didn't find out the gender after much deliberation with myself DH couldn't come. Baby was being very cute though sucking fists, yawning and somersaulting. All was good baby looking average sized, my two boys were big babies so expecting that to change.

yummicheddars · 07/12/2011 20:04
