Ladies, our previous thread was getting full so here is a lovely new shiny home for us all.

I've put some comfy cushions around and plenty of pregnancy safe snacks and drinks. The Segway park is in the corner over there next to the stack of glittery vom buckets (plenty of extra buckets too for all the newbies).

In the corner over here you'll find our library of leaflets including sections on early pregnancy private scan clinics, pushchairs and car seats.

Hope you all like it very much :)

Fantastic Biscuits that you've now heard the heartbeat.

From memory I think anything up to 140 was a boy and over 140 was a girl.

Looking forward to reading tomorrow's scan updates.

Biscuitsandtea · 13/10/2011 15:30

Oooh yes I can't wait for the scanathon!

Thanks Scarlet - Really wish I could remember what DS's heart rate had been then! Although I am sure it was faster than this and he was a boy? But looks like if it is around the 140 mark it's going to keep me guessing (as I'm probably not going to take the opportunity to find out at the 20 week scan)

And, following on from last night's discussions about mws in labour and independent mws etc, I asked what the normal procedure was and she said it just comes down to the number of patients and the number of staff on, It was probably because I was being monitored that i was getting 1:1 but it must also have been that there were enough staff to spare one for me all the time too.

Often they have to cover 2 or 3 patients which i guess is fine apart from when one of the other ones under the same mw goes into the delivery bit - then they'll be tied up for a while one would think? Still, maybe being under consultant care will make a difference this time?

Am definitely making sure DH takes enough sandwiches to not have to leave me for a week :)

Sister update- mild contractions, booked for another sweep on mon and poss induction on 21st. So everything gone a bit quiet really! She has been on the swings today though so you never know!
Can I ask silly question? When midwife comes to my house, will she need a wee sample and will I need to provide the vessel?thanks.

jaggythistle · 13/10/2011 17:58

Biscuits my DH didn't listen when I told him to take himself a wee picnic. He was so hungry and eventually got given a slightly stale cheese sandwich by a midwife who took pity on him. Grin I had taken myself some food and drink, but I couldn't face any food. I think I had half a bit of toast or something.

I think he must have thought it would be like on TV and he could swan out for a snack now and then. He also didn't conside being in the hospital for about 24hrs before DS was even born never mind getting home after I was moved to recovery after CS....

scarletfingernail · 13/10/2011 18:11

I was in labour so long with DS, after 10 hours of me being on the labour ward and still only 4 cm dilated DH had the worst headache he'd ever had. It was the middle of the night and the pharmacy in the hospital was closed. He begged the midwife for 2 paracetamol but she wouldn't\couldn't give him any so he had to leave me and drive to a 24 hour garage.

The moral of the story is, make sure you take some headache tablets for your DH's/DP's as well as a picnic. I was terrified at being left completely on my own, but I needed his headache to bugger off so he could support me and then enjoy the actual birth.

Am so taking some paracetemol in the old hospital bag! That's awful Scarlet! Perhaps he could have had some gas and air? Wink

Jaggy my DH wouldn't take me to hospital until he had made his sandwiches! And then I ate half a sandwich when they decided to keep me in (and sent DH home) but threw up later. Other than that I couldn't face any food either Sad. I was bloody starving when tea time came round on the recovery ward!

they tried to send my DH home after giving me a prostaglandin pessary... We refused point blank, were in a side room then so got the reluctant ok but he MUSTN'T come out onto the corridor (fine). Good job, as about 3 hours later a bed on delivery suite came up and was all go with the AR*E of a midwife who insisted they could get the biggest cannula in my hand for the induction drip (I specifically said he might get it in but it would tissue my veins, which are very narrow, and wreck me). Surprisingly enough, they didn't listen, tissued BOTH my hands and it was so painful, I was so glad DH was there. The induction did go ok through a smaller cannula in by my thumb on my dominant hand- such a rubbish place.... Oh, and I went in 30 hours after my waters broke (and I hadn't gone into labour naturally so needed induction) at 9am Wednesday morning to start the process while DH was at work and DD was born 2:35pm on Thursday. Twas a long process...

jaggythistle · 13/10/2011 20:20

First timers, it's great honest! Grin

I went into early labour before my waters broke but ended up on the drip to speed things up as apparently DS was at a funny angle. Waters went Saturday night and he was born on Munday night!

Canulas are uncomfortable anyway dream mine didn't get taken out for ages it was getting v sore!

Biscuitsandtea · 13/10/2011 20:38

My waters went Sunday afternoon, went in to get checked (as was 36+5) and they kept me in (with the intention of inducing me me on monday if nothing had happened) but just on a ward so DH had to go home. Then about 4am I was deemed worthy of the labour ward and they got DH back (we were only 20 mins away). DS was born at 2:30 that Monday afternoon. So less than 24 hours start to finish Smile

dreamfeeder · 13/10/2011 20:39

Too right they are!! My cannula was left in overnight, plus a catheter, which I thought might be nice almost- not having to get up for a wee and all, but actually made me constantly feel like I needed a wee so I asked the midwife twice to check it was working and not blocked or something! She said they do just make most people feel like that...

It is VERY unusual to have your waters break and not go into labour naturally within 24 hours first timers, fear not! I was unlucky all round with my delivery.

Looking forward to the Scanathon tomorrow, Won't be able to check in as often as I'd like as I'm staying with my dad whilst new kitchen floor palaver ensues at home- only going home mon, wwhen it will hopefully be finished or nearly finished...

Now, all those with DC already. What has gone wrong with DD's sleep?!?! We have had the same routine at the same time since she was 4 weeks old. For the last 4 or 5 months, it has been the same- bath, teeth, milk (boob or beaker recently), story, bed. She goes down wide awake, and lies there quietly until she falls asleep, which can take up to an hour. Actually, thats past tense. Now, we do the routine, everything seems fine, then I put her down and she sobs. She has NEVER been left to cry, or cried herself to sleep. I leave her as she whinges and cries on and off, and see if she settles for about half an hour or so, even up to 50 min. She never settles. Have resorted to going back up, letting her lie on my chest while I sit in the chair, try again, etc etc, Taking me up to 90 min to put her down (not counting the bath etc). Why's this happening?! She then gets up between midnight and 1 and repeats the whole process, her longest attempt being 3 hours of it... She doesn't want milk, calpol makes no differnce, and anyway, she goes back to sleep on my chest, but wakes the second she's put down... Any clues/ advice for a very tired pregnant person?!?! My dad thinks she Knows Something's Up...

musicalmrs · 14/10/2011 08:10

Ah, some lovely birth stories to scare all us first timers :P I will definitely be getting DH to pack a picnic hamper with plenty of sugary things and painkillers, to ensure he survives! And food containing lots of caffeine, as I have a feeling he may struggle on the sleep side of things...

Looking forward to the scanathon results today. Will be checking whenever I get a break from teaching year 6s to read music ;) Feeling particularly rubbish today, but thankfully it's a nice easy day..!

Wants - When I went to register to say I was pregnant, I got given a sample thing ready to use when I first see the midwife. However, when the midwives did the same process (apparently the doctor's one doesn't go straight into the system, and they wanted to put me in there and then), they didn't give me anything. Hmm!

dream - No advice I'm afraid, but maybe she can tell something's different? I know, mad as it sounds, the cats know something's different about me - they've been checking up on me, and have been much more loving and almost concerned. Most odd (but nice!).

jaggythistle · 14/10/2011 08:18

could it just be teeth dream? DS went through a few funny weeks at that sort of age when big teeth were on the way.

Biscuitsandtea · 14/10/2011 08:27

Good luck to today's scanathon scanees Smile

Brooking left right and centre for y'all xx

Working from home today - more MN than work may occur I fear!

duke748 · 14/10/2011 10:27

Hi ladies!

Not much to report here, feeling rough and sick - early pregnancy is such fun! I am going down to visit my aunty and uncle next week (like parents to me) and then booking in appointment the week after.

I am lurking and wanted to say a big good luck got everyone due scans today.

scarletfingernail · 14/10/2011 12:27
jaggythistle · 14/10/2011 12:54

less than an hour to go, have drunk a pint and a bit of ribena....

thought you'd appreciate a bladder fullness update. Grin

still really nervous!

dreamfeeder · 14/10/2011 12:55

What no updates? I know jaggy's not til after lunch but where's meconium and scream?

I had a wierd and realistic and horrible dream that I was bleeding heavily and was taken to A&E with my dad and sister (who both live a good 50 miles away), No DD, no DH... Freaked me out. And I seem to be on Day 3 (or at least 2.5) of minimal symptoms... I should be rejoicing, I'm sure, but is it normal to go from having to pull over twice while driving 15 minutes and puking 10 + times a day to... nothing today and an hours drive yesterday without pulling over once!?! I hope it is, and I SHOULD enjoy it. 13+1 today Smile

Hope you're coping duke, I'm finding it much harder this time with a LO to look after... Don't know how much is that it's much worse with twins (my sickness at least), and how much is Her Majesty wearing me out!!!

jaggy, I didn't think the night thing was teeth, as calpol didn't help. And surely if your mouth hurt being picked up and cuddled wouldn't instantly shut you up?! Like instant... She is a v-e-r-y slow teether. She has been getting her top left tooth through for 6 weeks and it's still only half way there!!!

dreamfeeder · 14/10/2011 12:57

x-posts jaggy, don't worry, it'll be lovely!!! I drank nothing for mine, puked up every last bit... was still fine! I hate the full bladder bit, worst bit!! Only 2 hours til you can come out and be publicly pg!!!

LoveInAColdGrave · 14/10/2011 13:14

Brooking all over the place for the scans here.

Have just bought a baby sleeping bag thing... but it's only for babies over 7.7lb! If they are smaller, what do they sleep in? Do they go in the sleeping bag for naps or just at night? Ahhh!
