Ladies, our previous thread was getting full so here is a lovely new shiny home for us all.

I've put some comfy cushions around and plenty of pregnancy safe snacks and drinks. The Segway park is in the corner over there next to the stack of glittery vom buckets (plenty of extra buckets too for all the newbies).

In the corner over here you'll find our library of leaflets including sections on early pregnancy private scan clinics, pushchairs and car seats.

Hope you all like it very much :)

I've said it on the other thread but Yay Bartlet Grin. Hope they can prevent any longer term probs by seeing you as a day case and that the conning settles down.

Just out if interest, what is NICE? I keep seeing NICE guidelines and wondered what it was. I was trying to explain to DH earlier about Dream reading up on the guidelines etc and he was giving it the 'well you can read any old tosh on t'internet' so I was saying, 'no no, these are the NICE guidelines', but then was flummoxed when he asked what that was.... Thanks bartlet, I'm so glad I'm on this thread, and met all you guys

And bartlet, thats exactly what my anaesthetist friend said before her home birth. Which was also fine. 2 paracetamol, no tearing, first baby, 7lb 4oz jobby. not jealous at all

scream, sounds like a good service. I wanted as little as possible with my first pregnancy, and was a bit blase really compared to my total neuroticism nowbut she sounds like she'll help you get just that. It makes such a differnce liking your midwife. I speak from experience, having gone through 8, yes 8, midwives while I laboured as shifts changed. One I didn't trust, one I didn't get on with and everything they said rubbed me up the wrong way. A good mw you trust makes a massive difference. Having someone like that on your side would be fab. If I wanted a natural birth (and I'm not sure i do yet...) and had the money, I'd pay for that.

NICE: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Institute_for_Health_and_Clinical_Excellence

Right, I must go to bed!

Biscuitsandtea · 12/10/2011 22:53

That sounds awesome Scream and like you really get something 'extra' for your money over and above the NHS standard. I wish I'd had help with bf last time as it was a total nightmare at the start.

I guess they have to schedule their patients so they're not all due at the same time.

I'm deffo going to ask my mw tomorrow about what the care us likely to bf like during labour. DH keeps saying 'well I'll be with you', don't have the heart to tell him I'd rather there was a mw there too. But I also doubt I'd get him to agree to spend a few thousand on someone Sad.

I have learnt from Dream though to make sure he leaves the buzzer within reach should he be required to buy food (or carpets?)

I wonder how much one of those people that come and stay in the early days are, like a gina ford type person - you know what she did for her job before writing those very controversial books of hers. Not that I'd want GF as I don't think we are 'ideologically compatible', but someone like that? Just like an extra pair of hands to help get everything sorted and get bf established etc. Doubt DH would agree to that either. Ah well, we muddled through before, I'm sure we can do it again

And I meant vomming on this thread too Bartlet Blush

Stupid autocorrect. As if conning is a more real and used word than vomming! I mean, AS IF!!HmmConfused

May I as a tmi question? I've asked this on the conception thread too. I've just done my wee sample for the mw and it is cloudy Confused. Surely wee should not be cloudy? I hope the mw doesn't think I've brought her apple juice instead....

Biscuitsandtea · 13/10/2011 07:59

ask, not 'as' Blush

OP posts:
mememummy · 13/10/2011 08:50

Wee can be cloudy just think it has a lot of wAste products in it so Sony worry every sample is different xx

mememummy · 13/10/2011 08:50

Especially if it was the first sample of the day Smile

musicalmrs · 13/10/2011 08:51

Bartlet, so pleased you had a wonderful scan! Yay for flickery heart beats!

Scream, the independent midwife sounds excellent! Definitely something I would invest in if we could (but saving up to buy where we're currently living, so not an option). Luckily, the midwives I've met so far seemed lovely, although I have heard some bad reports, so need to do a bit more research. There are probably few NHS trusts without some complaints though!

Biscuits, my commute isn't always too bad. I quite enjoy it as a general thing, as it gives me an excuse to read or listen to music without feeling guilty! It's when there are no seats and I'm feeling absolutely rubbish that it's a problem, which has only started happening in the last couple of weeks. I've looked up the train company I used most - C2C - and they don't have any policies about pregnant women such as 1st class (I don't think they even have first class) - rubbish! I have enquired about a baby on board badge though.

I also don't know anything about cloudy wee Biscuits, sorry!

I have a day off today, YAY! Granted, I have tonnes of work to do, but it's lovely to be able to do it at home with cats and snacks , rather than at school with trains and kids to contend with!

Biscuitsandtea · 13/10/2011 08:55

Thank you for the wee advice ladies Smile.

I guess if there is something wrong with it at least it'll get picked up, which has got to be good Confused.

I'm sure you'll all be hanging on for an update on my wee after my mw appointment Wink so shall be sure to let you all know Smile

Enjoy your working from home day Musical

Oh, and dream, did some measuring this morning - waist is 25inches/64cm (which has gone up about an inch I think), widest part of bloating-bump is 31inches/79cm. Comparing it to the stats I had when I got married (a couple of years ago- the only time I've measured myself up to now!), it's gone up quite a bit... but pretty sure it's mainly bloating- esp as I'm only 9w+2 ish.

pommedechocolat · 13/10/2011 09:04

musical - I dream of a 25 inch waist when I'm not pregnant you lucky lady!!

mememummy · 13/10/2011 10:16

This baby is moving loads Grin and I bought a cot and it will be here in 1 hour instead of on 27th oct Grin 18 weeks tomoz yay!!!

dreamfeeder · 13/10/2011 10:26

Yay meme, how exciting!! Ikea cot or something else? Do share, and I will google and join the fun!

biscuits, my wee was slightly cloudy plus the colour of strong apple juice. mw didn't comment. Except on the I'm-not-drinking-enough side (not through choice!) I also used to get wierd #bits' in it- freaked me out, nothing ever came back... Whats the worst it would be? UTI and get some treatment? Wouldn't worry.

musical, you must be tiny!!! But that is reassuring, as I was 33 or 34" (can't go back to previous page to check without losing this post!) so maybe its not that shocking an expansion. Must be loating, I agree!

Got my first consultant appointment 2 weeks today, yay! Apart from mw said she won't listen for heartbeats then as won't be able to tell which twin is which at 15 weeks and she said I won't see her again, except maybe once later on- all consultant appointments from now on. Which means I don't even get to hear a heartbeat for reassurance til my 20 week scan Confused . Bit gutted about that. Might ask on the twin thtread, as if others have heartbeats I might ask the consultant...

mememummy · 13/10/2011 11:28

Kiddiecare White cot with mattress 76£ and White toddler bed £48 mothercare on offer Grin love a good bargain toddler bed is also due today/tomorrow just need to work out how they both fit in the same room

mememummy · 13/10/2011 11:32

I was a size 10 my waist is now 41 inches!! Only put on 2lb so far but that's good cuz it means I'm keeping some food down, for all those still vomming avoid skips they burn xx

dreamfeeder · 13/10/2011 11:49

Good advice meme, I also find apples horrible to vom up... i am still 3lb below my normal weight, which is good, not losing. I had a good day yesterday, and seem to be following a better dy ttoday too, fingers crossed, so I reckon I'll be banging it on soon!!!

My friend has a single and a cot in a room I never, ever thought she'd get them in. We couldn't see how it would work til they arrived and yo could pla around with them, good luck!!

mememummy · 13/10/2011 12:42

Well I lost 4kg but now put on 1kg ish lol I have a bridesmaid dress to fit in in june

dreamfeeder · 13/10/2011 12:50

I was a bridesmaid in my last pg- I had to tell the bride I was pg at 5 weeks, as my dress was size 8 (and satin type material- no stretch!) and I'd be 6 months pg when I was the bridesmaid... She swopped it for a size 16 and I was horrified and postulated on about how much taking in it would need from my lovely size 8 dress. Do you know what, not a SINGLE STITCH taken in!!!!! It was a little big, but seriously, hardly at all. Gah!!!!

musicalmrs · 13/10/2011 13:58

dream - Wow, a size 16? That's quite an amazing change in sizes! Then again, dresses like that are very unforgiving.

Yes, I am tiny. Getting clothes that fit is a pain! In my family the trend is that you put on some weight in pregnancy that you never lose... and truth be told, going up a size or two wouldn't hurt.

Bed/cot buying sounds so exciting meme! I'm trying to avoid looking at such things until we've told the family at least - then it'll all seem more real.

Haven't got anywhere near as much work done as I should have so far today - oops!

jenfraggle · 13/10/2011 14:27

I had my booking appointment yesterday. Think I may hold the record for the longest one ever, 3 hours! I had hardly anything to eat beforehand, just a bowl of cereal all day as I just couldn't face food. After my panic attack over the blood test due to my lovely phobia of needles, it took me 2 hours to leave and even then DH had to come and pick me up as I was too lightheaded to drive.

I should be getting a letter through soon with my scan date

jaggythistle · 13/10/2011 14:54

Yay Bartlet!

Sorry I'm a bit late with that but I was feeling too pathetic to post last night sfter another late night burny throat puke after work. Curry is also a bad thing to puke....

yay tomorrow is Friday scanathon ladies - what time are your appointments? Mine's not till 1.35, hope they're not running too late by then as I don't want to be too late back to work!

I haven't weighed myself for a while, I don't think it would be pretty....

Biscuitsandtea · 13/10/2011 14:54

Afternoon all,

Well, you'll all be very relieved to know that my wee passed the 'whatever-it-is-they're-looking-for' test at the mw :)

She said that cloudy didn't seem to be a problem and it had come back o so nothing to worry about. We had a trainee mw in with us too who took and age to find the heartbeat (throughout which DS just kept going 'can we go now?' 'Daddy, can you read this story now?' Confused) Anyway, eventually she found it and she said it was about 140.

It sounded a lot slower than I remember DS's sounding. DH thought maybe I was mis-remembering DS's but I can clearly remember it being like a galloping horse (although i can't remember what the number was). The mw said it seemed fine anyway - perhaps this one will be less of a wriggler because knowing DS now I can't imagine he wasn't faffing about like a loony in there while we would have been listening to his heart beat!

I often wish I had been able to keep my notes from my other pregnancy but you had to give them back somewhere or other :(

Anyway, I wondered if anyone could remember that old wives tale about what heart rates mean for a girl or a boy?

Jen glad your booking in appointment is done and went ok, and glad they got the blood in the end - I hope you've an opportunity to take it easy and recuperate this afternoon?

I am staying conspicuously away from the waist measuring discussion...., although given I started at a size 16, that must mean that pre pg I was the same circumference as 6mth pg Dream Shock. Even though I've never met you Dream I know this cannot be a Good. Thing. :(

Still, once we started trying for this baby I never had much success with losing weight or getting fit as for 2 weeks out of every 4, I thought (somewhat optimistically) that I might be pregnant. But I've always said that once we either got pg and had had the baby, or had given up ttc, then I will be on it in terms of getting fit and losing some weight. And I WILL be. I might need to come and hunt you ladies down to get me through it though :)
