Had no idea what to call it, sorry. Just googled third trimester and that was the recommendation...

Just back from the midwife... I?m measuring 6cm bigger than I should be! ? or measuring what would be expected of someone who is 34wks pregnant. Gingerbaby - no more! Gingermonster! They feel your tummy to see where the baby starts, and she was surprised with how high mine was. (he kicks just below my breast normally). Nothing to worry about. It could be fluid (?). But have to go and see the antenatal doctor at the hospital, and probably have another scan: booked in for 21st September. So I should be about 28cm give or take 2cm, and I am 34cm.
Pelvic Girdle pain - although intermittent she wanted to refer me to a physiotherapist as I am only at 28 weeks and its best to sort vthese things out earlier rather than later.
Flu jab appointment made.
And the lump (probable Cyst) in breast still there. Still nothing to worry about but have to have it checked out at the hospital (as with any lumpy breast), they will call me with an appointment in the next two weeks.

My diary is full!!!! Phewee!

Tis reassuring to be so well looked after! :)
But I am not worried about anything. Nothing is going to stress me out until I'm given something concrete to worry about. :)

HoneyLovesCake · 12/09/2011 16:56

msbuggy that sounds heavenly :) As soon as DP gets a bit more confident with it I think the Bednest will be on ebay :o

Earwigg · 12/09/2011 16:57

Hi all, not sure I've posted on here but recognise lots of people from the other Dec thread.

My DS outgrew his moses basket very early, he was thrashing about alot so we squeezed the cot into our room. That was the first night he slept for about 3 hours straight and continued to go longer until he was sleeping through so was the best thing we could've done.

As I understand it they should be near you when asleep in the first 6 months as they copy your breathing pattern and some cases of SIDs seem to just be the baby stopping breathing.

This time round my DH has made new holes in our cot base to raise it up level with the bed. When the side is down there it is a little higher than the top of the matress so we won't have to worry about tethering to the bed/rolled up towels to bridge the gap but should be easy to pop baby in without getting out of bed. That's the plan anyway!

jigglebum · 12/09/2011 16:59

Afternoon ladies - lots of interesting discussion going on today! ThePippy we can commiserate together when we have no kitchen, a hole in our house and a new baby come December!! I too am burying head in the sand but figured there is never a good time to do an extension really.

Re moses baskets and sleeping arrangements - everyone is different and I think you have to go with what you feel most comfortable with, as well as bearing in mind the research. DS was in the moses basket for about 3 months, then outgrew in and was in a cot. We kept him in a cot for ages as he slept well and was happy in it and he did not climb out. So he only got a bed a 2.5years and so we went straight to a big bed with no cot bed stage. We also only had him in our room in a moses basket for a few days - he was very noisy and I was not sleeping. He was only in the room next door and I can assure you that you become attuned to every snuffle and will wake instantly!! However, I do recognise it is best to have them in with you for longer ideally.

Re feeding - again - plans and reality are not always the same!! I intended to breastfeed for 6 months , with the occasional formula feed and to express. In the end I could not express so BF for 4 months and gradually increased the formula during the time. It worked well for us. It also meant that DS was happy taking a bottle as well as breast.

It is weird thinking about this stuff again - thought I had forgotten everything!!

sevensevenseven · 12/09/2011 17:04

mopsy I had pain in the exact same place after 30 minutes on my ball when it arrived so you're not the only one with bad posture.

Had a successful afternoon, I went to asda and bought some more muslins and a breastpump. Those of you that were thinking about getting the tommee tippee breastpump with the steriliser box it's currently £20 in asda.

I'm really appreciating the experience of others on here, I'll definitely be getting a couple of syringes and learning how to express by hand in case of latch on problems/baby being early. When I was trying to bf DS and he couldn't latch on I was told to use a pump to express, of course as my milk hadn't come in I got nothing using a breastpump, no-one even mentioned expressing by hand. Perhaps if he'd have had some of my expressed colostrum rather than me being told I had to give him formula I'd have persevered with breastfeeding a bit longer.

OiMissus · 12/09/2011 17:39

Forgot to say ...at least the urine bit was fine. Grin

mopsytop · 12/09/2011 17:41

Wow Oi that's a lot of stuff! Hope all is okay but if the midwife wasn't worried I am sure it will be. People's bumps surely measure fairly differently? I mean, we are all different, right?

OiMissus · 12/09/2011 17:50

You'd think so, but she seemed quite concerned - in a "don't worry about it" way. Giving mixed signals. She wanted to get me to see someone this week until I said I was going abroad. Ohhhh... should I look it up and see what the scare stories are?!!

mopsytop · 12/09/2011 17:52

NO! Google is evil! Don't look it up. If you are worried, give her a ring and ask for a bit more info. Where/how long are you going for? Will it be ages or only a few days?

mopsytop · 12/09/2011 18:00

(Also, I could be wrong, but I think if your baby is lying really high it can mean it measures large and yours appears to be lying high so it might be that, right?)

OiMissus · 12/09/2011 18:00

Not worried. No probs. Won't google. MW said the first thing they do is check for gestational diabetes - but I had that test last week(!) - and not had any feedback so the results must be clear.
I'm fine! I'm not overweight. My bump is nice and firm...??
Off to Copenhagen again tomorrow, just til Friday. My last business trip for a while. :)

OiMissus · 12/09/2011 18:01

Yep - as you say - maybe it's just sat high up. :) I'll stick with that theory.

mopsytop · 12/09/2011 18:02

oooh I love Copenhagen. Have said that before. Did you make it to Tivoli gardens last time? If not, hope you do this time. They have this really high carousel. Like really high. I wouldn't dare. It looks scary. It's only like those swings that go round but it's so high it must feel really nerve-wracking.

plupervert · 12/09/2011 18:09

Hello, everyone. I had the 28-week appointment today, and had to drag poor DS, as the trains were all mucked up and I couldn't get him to nursery before going on to the midwife. He was rather terrified by the medical-looking office, and gratefully accepted my suggestion to stand in the corner and we wouldn't go near him. However, he did come and peer at my blood's being taken, and listened to the baby's heartbeat on the doppler, then managed to get out of there without having anything happen to him, so hopefully the visit will have given him confidence than it's not always all about him!

If it makes people feel better about the sample-giving business, I also made an incompetent or should that be incontinent? mess of it at the MW's, and Ds was faffing about by the sink so I couldn't wash up immediately, either! Shock

We have a moses basket from the first time, but DS outgrew it quickly, as he was a long baby. Baby nests look lovely, but I just can't justify the cost, especially for a No. 2. For a pfb, it might he all right, but not this time... Also, I

Sorelip · 12/09/2011 19:11

I've just been signed off for the doctor for another 3 weeks - which takes me right up to the start of my holiday/maternity leave. Work will not be happy.

figgygal · 12/09/2011 19:54

Aw not nice to hear that sorelip what are you suffering from?

sevensevenseven · 12/09/2011 20:01

Sorry sorelip, is it still your back?

aethelfleda · 12/09/2011 20:16

hiya - wow, the thread exploded! sorelip, hope your back isn't too awful.

re; co-sleeping - we have a futon which is great for bedsharing as it's firm and low to the ground. We will have a moses basket next to my side, and if it goes the same way as the DDs I will combine swaddling baby in the moses basket and having him unswaddled next to me (with me between him and DH). For those thinking about bedsharing - video evidence studies of bedsharing mums show that provided mum is not drunk or stoned or sedated, she tends to form a protective "C shape" around baby with back to their partner so that after feeding she is cradling baby and mums that bedshare tend to sleep lying on the side that they co-slept with baby even after the sharing stops! This protects baby very nicely from squashing by other members of the bed. If you do cosleep be aware that baby needs less covers than you- so consider a blanket rather than duvet to sleep under and make sure babys head won't be covered by your bedding.

re: peeing in small bottles- buy a small pack of Tesco Value Plastic Cups (about 50p) and put them in your handbag - when you go to the GP or to do your sample, pee in the cup then pour it in the pot and throw the cup in the bin. job done.

I am a bad, bad mother today - made the kids salami sandwiches for dinner (not deli sliced - some cheap stuff out of a packet) and snarfed a couple of slices. it's given me heartburn and a DEEP sense of naughtiness. Sigh. (but it tasted so goood!) Bad mother!

aethelfleda · 12/09/2011 20:19

oh, ans oi, you were asking about colostrum - even though the amounts are tiny, theres no need to top up baby at all as long as they are feeding regularly and acting normally - this is why babies all lose a little weight in the first few days - the fluid soon comes in and they get everything they need. Sometimes a baby is not feeding well, or is too sleepy or jaundiced to feed, and those babies may need top ups, but it should only be at the advice of your midwife or paediatrician, if they are doing well then all they should need is your milk.

itsybitsy08 · 12/09/2011 20:28

ThePippy
Positive induction story for you :)
I was induced at 40+2 with DD, and all was fine.
I had the two lots of tablets, first at 3pm and the next at about 8pm, on the ante-natal ward. My waters broke on their own at around midnight. I laboured fine on my own until the midwife came to take me to delivery ward at 8am. Was painful, but managagable, plenty of walking around, had no pain relief. In the delivery room, it turned out I was 8cm dilated. Had gas and air for about an hour, and then delivered DD at 10am, no interventions and no stitches needed.
I know every labour is different, but I know you hear some 'horror' induction stories, so its nice to redress the balance :)

msbuggywinkle · 13/09/2011 08:20

Morning! I've been awake since 5.30am for no good reason, the DDs slept until 8! Feeling surprisingly chirpy though.

I do have a friend's positive induction story to share, she was 42 weeks (declined it until then) with her DD1, needed a drip to get her started but then had a 4 hour labour, gas and air only and has gone on to have two more DDs with equally simple induction. She's actually due with number 4 in early December.

Home ed friends coming round today, then I'm off to home birth group this evening. I love going, a couple of hours sitting around drinking tea, eating cake and chatting. My friend who is due the day after me is going too, we're comparing bumps!

plupervert · 13/09/2011 09:01

I hope the day continues as well as this, msbuggywinkle! Smile

mopsytop · 13/09/2011 09:08

It is a gorgeous blue day here, although of course very windy. Is very cheering. Anyone else getting those awful MASSIVE spiders? We've had four in as many days :( Hate getting rid of them. Do the glass/cardboard thing and chuck em in the garden but have a sneaking suspicion they just come back in again :( ugh ugh ugh

ThePippy · 13/09/2011 09:47

Morning all. Thanks itsy and msbuggy fort the induction stories. I am holding on to the positive memory of a really good first labour (8hrs start to finish, gas and air only and lovely water birth) and assuming that I will labour well again, even if it needs starting off for me.

Braxton Hicks were really strong last night (had to lean over a beanbag to ease the discomfort) - didn't feel any with DD so I am hoping it is a positive sign.

Hope everyone is feeling good.

hawthers · 13/09/2011 09:58

hi mopsytop - i've seen loads of those massive spiders - they give me the willies but evilly i whack them with my shoe and send them off to spider heaven Shock bad karma i'm sure but they freak me out too much!
