Had no idea what to call it, sorry. Just googled third trimester and that was the recommendation...

plu I like hearing about people who have been itchy and it amounting to not a lot...its reassuring!

HoneyLovesCake · 08/09/2011 11:02

Bluebells I'm sure my hypno lady mentioned something about moving a back-to-back baby...I think it involved getting into a position like this Grin to move the baby out of your pelvis. When you're on all fours the back of your baby's head swings to the front of your belly.

plupervert · 08/09/2011 11:26

In that case, I shall add that the GP spoke of urticaria... which is simply an itchy rash! There was no need to use such a word, IMO. Hmm

I do have problems with coming up in red blotches where my skin is scraped or scratched, so stretch marks must have been a panic for my poor skin. However, even if you don't have that sort of issue, stretching is going to be difficult, and lead to imbalances.

aethelfleda · 08/09/2011 11:39

Morning girls! I am currently flexing all the creative muscles I have to sort something out for my DD1, who has decided that she wants her 6th bday party to be in the theme of "Trapped Ever After". This is a maaaad CBBC gameshow (will link to it) where 10-12 year olds do challenges to avoid being trapped in a creepy gothic tower. One member of the team is a secret "saboteur" and has to stop the team from succeeding, then they all accuse each other of being the saboteur. Suitable for 5-6 year olds in a party format?!?!?! Some swift adapting is going to take place!!! Help!

Sorelip · 08/09/2011 12:49

Aethelfleda, I've seen that show (no kids yet so I have no excuse) and I thought it was great! Some Halloween themed stuff might help, most online party stores have bits and bobs that can help.

Midwife measured my bump today, it came out at 28 weeks, although according to the last scan I had, baby should be at 27+2 today. She said it's nothing to worry about, but does this mean that LO may make an earlier appearance than expectec, or that he's going to be big?

figgygal · 08/09/2011 13:11

Sorelip I just dont understand how they can accurately measure growth with a tapemeasure any ideas from those who have been through this before?

Sorelip · 08/09/2011 13:15

It doesn't make much sense to me either, although maybe they look at the difference in previous measurements to make sure he is growing at all? After all, they aren't weighing me...

My brother is convinced I'll be giving birth at the end of November. My spider sense isn't giving me any clues on this one.

BeeMyBaby · 08/09/2011 13:21

sorelip I measured a week bigger at my 24 week appointment, and freaked out about it getting exponentially (sp?) bigger, but at my 28 week appointment it was back to being spot on, so I think sometimes there are slight variations/inacurate measurements by midwives.

OP posts:
sevensevenseven · 08/09/2011 13:27

sorelip what they actually measure is the height of the top of the uterus rather than the size of the baby so it shouldn't be too much to worry about. Even when they do growth scans they often get the size of the baby wrong, I was told DS would be big but he was tiny.

aethelfleda · 08/09/2011 13:44

There is a 3cm error allowed for change between midwives when they measure you in the clinic, so its just a rough check that things are expanding at each visit. If they have any doubt then you get sent for an ultrasound which is much more accurate.

Off to Wilkinsons/art shop to buy green and black crepe paper to drape the house in!!!

mopsytop · 08/09/2011 14:48

I found the thread!
I am full of cold with really bad sore throat and keep thinking I might faint. This is not fun!
I discussed the flu jab with the nurse and she said I should definitely get it unless I have had a bad reaction to any other vaccines. I haven't so I have booked an appointment. I feel so awful just with a bad cold that I really don't fancy flu!

OiMissus · 08/09/2011 15:14

Hello all! The thread didn't come up when I searched for December 2011 :( But now I'm back and safe :)
Yep - we need flu jabs. There were too many stories last year about avoidable deaths - in the braodsheets, not the sensational press - that I made a mental note of "MUST DO"!
I am limping today a bit, again, pains down the back of my left leg again.

Sorelip · 08/09/2011 15:46

I've been signed off work until Monday next week with back pain. I'm due to go on maternity leave in three weeks, so it isn't ideal, and doctor isn't convinced that I'll be able to return to work...Gahh!

OiMissus · 08/09/2011 16:44

I'm hoping to sign myself off work permanently on Friday with a £126million lottery win. I think it's my turn, and I want the furry accessories that go with the pram I've bought (and that needs lottery support!).

Sorelip · 08/09/2011 17:29

Haha, must remember to buy a ticket tomorrow.

Today, apart from being reassured that baby is fine, has been CRAP. Roll on tomorrow, and a possible lottery win. I'd settle for eggs and soldiers with the eggs done just right, not too hard, but not snotty either.

kri5ty · 08/09/2011 17:33

hey girls

(waves to plupervert thanks for pointing me in the right direction, and also the link!)

Wow its hard to catch up when you have been gone a while! I'm finding it hard to concentrate on a spinning laptop screen!

OH has gone away for a week today on a stag do to the sun :( boooo i want the sun!!
The thought of being on my own for a week is getting to me, especially as im not in work as it'll be 24/7! I have been feeling really low the past couple of weeks, and have also lost my appetite :(

Those of you with children already i have a couple of panic questions!
We have a baby bjorn carrier donated by a friend and also a cover for it see here it says it is fleeced... would i need to use a snowsuit with it too???

Alsoooo will a swaddle blanket be warm enough on its own, or do we need to put a blanket over the top too?

i think thats my panic over for today!

I have my flu jab every year due to medical reasons... will have to remember to get it this year too!

sevensevenseven · 08/09/2011 18:00

kristy I think you'll need a snowsuit as well unless you wear a big coat over the top of the carrier.

Sorry to those with back pain getting signed off work, I'll stop complaining about mine now.

aethelfleda · 08/09/2011 18:15

Kri5ty, the babybjorn is fairly warm for baby's tummy, but their arms and legs stick out so if it's really cold you'd probably have baby in vest, sleepsuit, and a lightish snowsuit when out with it (or as Seveb says, a button-over coat). Wrap slings tend to be warmer for bub as babys arms and legs are contained in them (like hugabub or moby wraps) so less need for a snowsuit with those.

If it is a branded babybjorn, try an NCT nearly new sale or small ads as there is a button-on-fleecey cover available for it (but I seem to remember its pretty pricey new, hence looking secondhand). A snowsuit would be more versatile.

Sorelip · 08/09/2011 18:24

sevensevenseven don't stop, it makes me feel less alone.

I'm in the mood for baby shopping..."Hmmm yes, I think I'll have the brown haired, blue eyed 8 pounder". I haven't bought one frivolous baby thing yet, and I'm now consumed with the need to. Help!

kri5ty · 08/09/2011 18:28

aethelfleda and seven i have a fleece/waterproof cover that goes over baby, and the arms and legs are contained.

I tried to post a link to it on my last post but i must have done it wrong lol

We will have a snowsuit for in the pram, i just didnt know if i would need it with the fleece cover too :)

HoneyLovesCake · 08/09/2011 19:01

Hey kri5ty I see your link, you posted it fine...can't help about the snowsuit though being a 1st timer too. I would've thought a light fleece suit rather than a full on padded snowsuit would work but I plan on just working it out as I go along...I still find it hard to believe how many layers they'll need Confused

Mmmmcheese · 08/09/2011 19:16

Hi everyone, not much to report from my end. Have had a day without any random pains which is great and makes me feel more normal! They don't know why DS was born so early, which I think is one of the reasons I'm so worried this time as there's nothing I can do to prevent it, except I've been told to do as little as possible. I was on bed rest with DS for 8 weeks before he was born (he was threatening to come from 22 weeks) and I think it really helped so whenever I get the chance I lie down!

It's horrible though as I do worry about putting on lots of weight. I'm normally fairly slim so seeing my thighs and bum getting a lot bigger feels very weird. My face looks fatter too and I hate looking in the mirror! But I have a big appetite so I just tell myself that if DD is born early as least she should be nice and fat too!

I don't have much to buy this time but need to get new mattresses for the moses basket and for DS's new cotbed as he is moving rooms before DD is born. Haven't got around to it yet though.

hope everyone with backpain is doing OK, I get it from time to time but it's not too bad.

aethelfleda · 08/09/2011 19:18

Ah, kri5ty, seen the link now! (Ditzy me didn't notice a link was there on first reading!). If you've got that cover then no snowsuit will be needed, just vest/sleepsuit and probably a cardi if its cold, and then the cover should take the place of a coat/snowsuit.
If you find baby's arms stick out at the top then just swap the cardi for a coat. But a snowsuit and that fleecy cover together would overheat him.

(when DD1 was 6 months we were camping in March- don't ask why- and had her in a big snowsuit. She was happy as larry until we took a break in a busy and warm hall... Then she promptly overheated and decided to puke EVERYWHERE :(. )

And the layers thing may seem confusing but it actually makes things simpler as it's far easier to striip em off and put them on as needed. Generally you just need one more layer than you have on your own top half (so t shirt for you = vest and t shirt/babygro for them). It soon gets to be second nature esp as you get better at reading baby's too hot/too cold signals.

DarciesmumandBump2 · 08/09/2011 19:24

Hey Ladies.

I loved using a big ball last time, not got around to using one this time.

I'm putting weight on everywhere ESP arse and face! Feel like I'm growing an inch an he lol Grin

So tired come 6-7pm over the last week - need my energy back.

DD is driving me crazy with her tantrums Sad making my BP rise Angry

Awomancalledhorse · 08/09/2011 20:29

My face/arms/anywhere that isn't torso or butt hasn't gotten bigger. But I have a muffin top even when I'm naked, just a fold of skin that sits there going 'Hi, I'm muffin & I'll be your fat bumper for the next few years'.
AND, I've had to cut back on the amount of exercise I was doing, as I get a karate chop to the ribs whenever I move about too much. :(

Cheese, glad you had a pain free day! Even if it makes me feel a bit Envy

I had a dream I won the lottery last week, I've written down my winning numbers from the dream..so fingers crossed!
