Had no idea what to call it, sorry. Just googled third trimester and that was the recommendation...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
aethelfleda · 05/10/2011 21:24

Thanks seven. Can we change thread titles? If notnits probably better to start another thread or we won't know what to look for. Given the number of geeks/dr who types here plus how close we're all getting, I'd suggest "Gironimo!" in the title...

Oh, and as a phil n ted ex owner, I'd say yes they fit in a boot, but they take up the whole bloody thing! For walking around town/towpaths with two babies or baby/toddler, however, they are fab. For just one child they are way bulkier than an umbrella fold buggy. If you're planning two in quick succession then well worth it and ours is now in year 4 of punishment with its second owner and going strong.

plupervert · 05/10/2011 22:30

It's a bit embarrassing to confirm that "geek/Dr Who" stereotype... but it's "Geronimo"!

aethelfleda · 05/10/2011 22:36

Yes, yes, I did google the spelling after posting...

If you need alternatives, we could always go for "Thar She Blows!" (with the beached whale analogy), or maybe "She Canna Take Any More, Captain..."

msbuggywinkle · 05/10/2011 23:18

I like geronimo! I need something to keep me going until the Christmas special!

plupervert · 06/10/2011 07:16

"She Canna Take Any More, Captain..."

Shock

If I have an excitable Scottish registrar doing an epidural or something, I shall burst laughing, and blame you for the extra stitches, aethelfleda!

By the way, I had forgotten suggesting "getting together" on Monday to share hospital bag contents on Monday. Here's what I have so far:

TRAVEL
cash
cab number
sling
undersheet/towel

TECH
phone charger
camera
camera charger

ME
maternity pads
breast pads
nursing bra x 3
PJs
t-shirt & trackie bottoms
pants
socks
slippers
toiletries
snacks - Lucozade thingies

BABY
vests x 3
sleepsuits x 3
nappies
wipes
muslins
snowsuit

I think we may come home from hospital by train, so can't be bothered with pram and car seat (especially the Tank), and reckon a snowsuit should make little hats and scratch mitts superfluous. However, I could be wrong, and might end up making the poor baby a turban out of a muslin and discouraging her for life, by exposing her to ridicule when she's still so new...

OiMissus · 06/10/2011 07:31

I take your list, and raise it with

TRAVEL
cash
cab number
sling
undersheet/towel

TECH
phone charger
camera
camera charger
i-pod with speakers - charged with salt n pepa, "Push it"

ME
maternity pads
breast pads
nursing bra x 3
PJs
t-shirt & trackie bottoms
pants
socks
slippers
toiletries
snacks - Lucozade thingies

BABY
vests x 3
sleepsuits x 3
nappies
wipes
muslins
snowsuit

"Oh baby, baby, b-baby, baby - push it real good"

mopsytop · 06/10/2011 07:56

Umm sorry to be dense, but not getting the Geronimo reference at all?? To what does it refer?

msbuggywinkle · 06/10/2011 08:17

mopsy

Lists (it is tooooo early for this really, but I have coffee!)

Those who are having hospital births, another pillow is a good idea, the pillows were crap when I had DD1 and an extra would have made a difference to my ability to sleep! Also straws, as drinking from a cup or bottle in labour isn't easy. Oooo...and lansinoh nipple cream, tis the stuff of the Gods for sore nips.

Here's my list, bit different as I'm home birthing so I'll do it separately. Hopefully it might be useful to the first time home birthers on the thread.

BABY

Nappy, wrap and nippa
Placenta bag (I'm having another lotus birth)
Salt and lavender mix
Sleepsuit
Hat
Blanket
Rainbow braided cord for baby's cord (cause I dislike clamps and I can sterilise it as I'm at home!)
Cloth bum wipes.

ME

Maternity pads
PJs
Slippers
Big knickers
Dressing gown

OTHER STUFF

Camera
Straws
Clary sage oil
DP's swimming shorts (so he can get into the pool too)
2 shower curtains (for around the pool in case of spills)
Lots of old towels (on top of the shower curtains so they aren't slippy)
Colander (ewwwwww)
Piles of candles

DP's SHOPPING LIST

Yes, this is mad, but I've sent him shopping on his way home from work both times so far because of a sudden need to know that the house is full of food!

Mango and apple juice (lots)
Bread
Beans
Cheese
Oatcakes
Apples
Bananas
Hummus
Rice cakes
Bread sticks
Baking potatoes
Lemon cake ingredients (this is a tradition for us, DP bakes lemon cake when we get up from our after birth sleep)
Biscuits for my support team!

msbuggywinkle · 06/10/2011 08:18

Forgot to mention, when you're thinking about drinks orange juice seems to make lots of women in labour sick...hence apple and mango on my list.

sevensevenseven · 06/10/2011 08:32

Thanks for the lists. msbuggy will we really need nipple cream that soon?

Can I suggest travelling light rather than taking 3 nursing bras? I'm taking one nursing bra and just a couple of pairs of enormous cheap pants. I'm hoping for a 6 hour discharge, I'll be packing another bag with extra clothes in and leaving it at home in a convenient place or in the boot of the car for DH to bring to me if I have to stay in.

sevensevenseven · 06/10/2011 08:34

Oh and if you have to stay in add a plastic bag for sicked on muslins and sleepsuits.

Cheeptrick · 06/10/2011 08:45

Baby:
Vest x 3
Sleepsuits x3
Nappies
Cottonwool balls
Scrathch mits
Swaddle blankets x3
Snowsuit for bringing baby home
(DH brings car seat when we are told to leave)

(my maternity ward does not let you use baby wipes but tell you to use water and cotton wool)

Me:
Maternity pads x20
long nightys with button opening for feeding x2
Joggers and vest top
Lavender massage oil

Tech:
Camra

In car:
Gift for son from newbaby
Baby car seat
Waterproof mat
Bag with no holes in for being sick in
Bottle of water

At home:
Sterialed gaurs soaked in lavender oil and water and put in frezzer - to put on foofoo after stiches

Cheeptrick · 06/10/2011 08:46

Opps for got nipple cream - linolin

OiMissus · 06/10/2011 08:48

I think two bags will be packed. One bag for a 6 hour discharge (here's hoping!), and one bag to stay in the boot for overnight stays. oh do we bring our own water jug just in case of stitches and toilet visits? (not that we'll be needing them, of course), antiseptic cream?
All things you'd expect in a hospital... but is it easier just to take your own?
Hairbrush/hairband/bands.

Cheeptrick · 06/10/2011 08:49

Good idea about the laundry bag seven.

Anyone else feeling stressed trying to get ready in time for the lo to be born?

I have just finish son's new room and made the cot up and put the baby seat in car just in case she comes early!

We still have lots to do.

mopsytop · 06/10/2011 08:57

Opposite of stressed Cheeptrick, have done more or less nothing at all. Still have 11 weeks to go though.

OiMissus · 06/10/2011 09:00

Not stressed. Not yet. The hospital bag list is really helping as it tells me what I'll need in larger quantities at home (thank you very kindly all you with experience!). I've copied the list and have added to it the other ideas - I shall be shopping this weekend. :)
We'll be fine. No need to worry.
I keep telling myself that there are families who have nothing, who survive adequately on little more than fresh air and water. All our lists are luxuries to make life simpler (yet also so much more complicated!).
We'll be fine.
(I need some new suitcases to carry all this stuff in though!)

mopsytop · 06/10/2011 09:04

I seriously haven't bought one single thing yet. I just feel like it's way too far away. I guess at some stage I need to get organised, but surely if in a few weeks time I make a list and go to Mothercare or somewhere, I can just get everything in one go? I am being given moses basket and baby clothes by friends, so only really need to buy a few newborn babygros and I guess I am good to go. I suppose in a way, I am mildly superstitious and don't want to go buying stuff too soon. Stupid really, I know. But there you go.

Sorelip · 06/10/2011 09:28

Good morning! Thank you all, for all your kind words, makes me feel like less of, well...a prat. I never should have let myself get this bad. If it was a physical problem, I'd have no problem getting it seen to, but because it's brain related, I can hide from it. Not anymore though :)

We cannot afford to move out to private accommodation, and we are on the council list, but amazingly are not considered overcrowded. If I'm diagnosed as depressed, I'm going to light a fire under the council's arse, and I WILL get moved up the list.

Congratulations mopsy we need more girls! In my mind, I'm already embarrassing the (rather large) bean in front of his first girlfriend. :o

Welcome Pully!

I've started packing my hospital bag, but I'm too lazy to go and look at what's in it. And I'm getting a pram from a friend, haven't even seen it yet.

OiMissus · 06/10/2011 09:45

sorelip tell the council that your dad is abusive when he drinks - you can hint at violence and/or psychological abuse, they won't look into it, but put on a few more tears and fears and you'll shoot up the list. (My friend - female, alone, no kids - told the council about her husbands abusive behaviour to get out of her situation. He was psychologically very abusive, so there were no lies told, but the mereist hint of violent abuse put her at the top of the list.)
Just an idea.

Sorelip · 06/10/2011 10:12

It might come to that Oi, once he realises mum is never going to take him back, he might just get violent....If he does though, my brother/s will kill him. He isn't on the tenancy agreement, but mum can't be bothered with the fuss of making him move out. Or she is scared of him, I don't know which. We could try to physically remove him, but he practised kung fu for over 20 years, so I very much doubt we'd get very far.

I have to go back to the GP today, so we'll see what happens.

OiMissus · 06/10/2011 10:53

Good luck at the doctors - I don't know how these things work, but perhaps the GP can help in recommending swift council action.

Xiaoxiong · 06/10/2011 11:44

Oh pleeeeease can we go with the star trek reference - I just got back from the GP (with a sick note for PGP/SPD, referral to a physio and news that my own little symbiont has turned breach) and had the flu jab a minute ago. I'm feeling very much more that I "canna take any more, cap'n".

And then our last thread can be either "" or "")

Xiaoxiong · 06/10/2011 11:50

Sorelip - you might well find that like many bullies he is big and scary when it's just you, or your mum trying to confront him but he will back down when presented with a united front of all of you including your brothers. Anyway I really hope it doesn't come to that and that it goes well at the GP's today for you.

mopsy I like you still have bought nothing. These hospital lists are scaring me Grin

Cheeptrickortreat · 06/10/2011 12:19

Help

I have just gone to the loo and their is cream/green mucus - is this my mucus plug?

Should i tell someone?

I'm not in pain and my water not gone but i'm only 31 weeks.
