Had no idea what to call it, sorry. Just googled third trimester and that was the recommendation...

Xiaoxiong · 12/09/2011 12:50

Ah x-post - glad it's fine now!!

mopsytop · 12/09/2011 12:51

I pumped it up more and it's okay now. The only thing is it is hurting my back a bit. Is that normal? Maybe it's just I was slouching before and now I am not and it's muscles I am not used to using? Like the middle of my back, around where bra strap is ... apart from that is much more comfy than a chair.

Xiaoxiong · 12/09/2011 12:55

Yes it did make me a bit sore at first too, and I think your guess about the muscles that don't get used much is probably right.

Upper back soreness didn't last too long, it's my coccyx that's aching today...this pregnancy lark, if it's not one thing it's another eh? Smile

figgygal · 12/09/2011 13:21

Well i think it is finally creeping up on me i am exhausted, was tired over the weekend so went to bed early Sat and Sun could barely drive home an hour yesterday from a trip to friends, at work today and feeling a bit weird wouldnt say i am anxious but i am definitely unsettled. More sleep required!! The left wrist pains are now all the time, it hurt to drive yesterday when in the 10 and 2 position on the steering wheel and pulling on the handbrake. Also the appetite has gone for the last few days. I just dont have any motivation to do anything which isnt like me. God another 12 weeks of this and worse is a scary prospect though still appreciate i have been lucky up to now.

I have a moses basket to start dont know what we will do if he grows out of it quickly there is no way a cot will fit in our room and not co-sleeping i wouldnt risk it as i thrash around like a breaching whale when asleep.

hawthers · 12/09/2011 13:29

i'm totally exhausted too today. i can hardly keep my eyes open and as for concentrating and working hard to clear my to do list - fat chance.

plus massively hot so wandering around in the office in a vest - not sure its entirely appropriate work wear for my office.... Blush

LittleMissFlustered · 12/09/2011 13:41

Afternoon all! I am the centre of laziness today. I managed the school run in one hour flat and went straight back to my bed as soon as I got inBlush

I have just had breakfast, which tasted like cardboard. Has anyone else had a near complete shutdown of the tastebuds? Nothing tastes even remotely reasonable:(

For those of you with backache on your balls (sorry, but that made me snortle) it's to do with your posture. You are now doing it right, and your body doesn't like itWink

I have a moses basket on my shopping list, but to be fair I am going to see about getting a loaner from a friend, or buying a second hand crib and a new mattress. My daughter hated the basket, son loved his. I think I would prefer something that has a slightly longer lifespan, and a crib is a litte more sturdy. Mind you, if any of u have early sitters then we're all buggered as they have to be shifted out of them at that point >_<

msB I'm like figgy when I sleep, could give the contestants of Strictly a run for their money with my nighttime grooves in bed >_< This is a good thing for me though, as I need space for me, and would feel compelled to try the co-sleep thing if it were safer, which would be a drain on my mental health:(

Right, I am off to see if I can find a bar of dark chocolate, as that at least should taste of chocolate!

OiMissus · 12/09/2011 14:09

Got my 28 wk appt this afternoon. Came home to pee in the capsule thingy as I forgot this morning.
So, question no 407# how the hell do you do it when you can't see your lower parts, nor the stream?!! And, because it isn't the first of the day, I "go" all the time, so the "stream" only lasts for 3 secs! I've collected about 2mm so far. Just had a salad and mackerel lunch, so anything that happens now will have a rich beetroot content and a pretty pink hue, I'm guessing! :)
(Bought mackerel as last week's newspapers said we had to eat more omega 3s like mackerel, tuna and nuts so that our little cherubs don't have allergies. (In moderation of course! Wink)
And I can't give up bedspace either, I move about too much and need space! I'd never rest thinking that I'd squish gingerbaby. He'll be safer in a crib!

mopsytop · 12/09/2011 14:14

I'd never co-sleep in the same bed as I too roll about too much, toss and turn etc. and would be scared I'd squash the baby, particularly as bed is a double, not a king size. Wouldn't work at all. But co-sleeping cot appeals as baby is still in its own cot.

hawthers · 12/09/2011 14:26

OiMissus - our gp supplies a disposal plastic cup together with the tiny tube so that the aiming area is larger. alternatively purchase a pee only funnel and throw it away when dc arrives.... other than that i just don't have a clue!

Xiaoxiong · 12/09/2011 14:27

Oi - I've got my 28 week appt tomorrow morning - poss TMI but I asked my MIL (nurse) the exact same question now that I can't see anything down there. She suggested a sterilised jamjar and then decanting into the little tiny pot. She also said they don't need much to do the tests so not to stress about only having a little bit to give them.

LittleMissFlustered · 12/09/2011 14:27

I use a jug if I am at home (specific peeing-in-pots jug) and if I am not I wing it and hope for the best!

OiMissus · 12/09/2011 14:33

Ha ha ha! Ok, I shall nominate a larger pee collector! :) Thanks ladies! Grin

HoneyLovesCake · 12/09/2011 14:35

When my cats were given to me at 2 weeks old (so tiny) I slept with them beside me so that I could bottle feed them every couple of hours. I've always moved around a lot at night but the knowledge they were there kept me from moving throughout the night & I slept soundly too so I'm completely confident about co-sleeping with baby but DP is a bit Hmm & as his dad offered to pay for it we're getting a Bednest. I think it's best to do what you & your DP/DH are most comfortable with & to a certain degree ignore other people's opinions.

Sorelip · 12/09/2011 14:35

I just end up peeing all over my hand, and then scrubbing it afterwards.

mopsytop · 12/09/2011 14:37

Pee is sterile when it leaves the body so I think if you pee on the outside of the pot, no biggie, just give it a wash immediately and it'll be grand!

ThePippy · 12/09/2011 14:54

Hi everyone. Been ages since I posted thanks to having almost zero free time, but I have been keeping up to date with the [very fast moving] thread. Pleased everyone is doing well ignoring the usual 3rd trimester aches and pains.

I have been for a glucose tolerance test this morning which was not a fun use of 3 hrs, especially the luke warm lucazade I had to drink - yuck. Another appointment on Thursday for my 28 weeks. Time seems to be flying right now.

jigglebum I am the same situation as you with regards the house. I have builders currently doing an extension which is "planned" to finish 1 week before my due date, and the last 3 weeks of that time is knocking through and gutting the existing kitchen to install a new one. I am burying my head in the sand and hoping it is done on time at the moment. Luckily the builders are a really nice bunch of guys and I think we be as helpful as they can be even if things are over running, or if our little arrival puts in an eary show. We had a similar thing when I was pregnant with DD, bought a house that needed total renovation and then finally moved in a couple of months before she was born. This is the second stage of work and I have been living with the original crappy kitchen for 2 years now so it isn't happening a moment too soon.

In other news I found out last week that being geriatric (over 40) I will not be allowed to go past due date without being induced. I know it is for the best but I so hope I don't need inducing with the increased risks of other interventions. Any positive induction stories appreciated.

BeeMyBaby · 12/09/2011 14:56

I always feel guilty if I know I've accidently peed on the outside of the pot when I had it over to the midwife, even though I've washed it afterwards. I bought plastic throw away cups this time and its much better and cheaper than a shewee thingermy.

DH is planning to make a co sleeping crib for when the baby grows out of the moses basket, I think he's copying my brother who made DD's crib from scratch.

OP posts:
Xiaoxiong · 12/09/2011 15:01

Query about the cosleepers - if a £35 ikea crib has a detachable side and adjustable height levels, how are the bednests/babybays etc of this world any different?

Couldn't we just drag a normal crib up to the side of our bed, take one side off and attach it to our bed base with bungee cords?

OiMissus · 12/09/2011 15:11

My MW always asks me to unscrew the cap - I guess they all do so that they risk minimal exposure. :)
tyelperion I see nothing wrong in your plan, and thought about doing the same to our crib - but then I remembered that it's borrowed, so perhaps not the done thing. :)
thepippy It sounds a bit ridiculous that they would have to induce you, I'm sure your body and your baby knows best, but I guess they get their wisdom from somewhere. I'll be 39 when I do the final push, so I must have just missed this marker. I'll know what to look forward to next time around then. Humphhh!

ThePippy · 12/09/2011 15:26

Yeah OiMissus I was almost 39 when I did the final push with DD and the subject never came up, which is crazy as I'm fairly sure the risk doesn't suddenly start at 40. I will be 41 at the final push (unless he comes more than 2 weeks eary and then I will still be a spritely 40) and they have told me it is due to increased risk of placenta failure after 40 weeks in older women. DD came on time so I am hoping the same happens again, and will be taking my raspberry leaf tablets again this time to see if that helps.

HoneyLovesCake · 12/09/2011 15:39

bee well done to your DH...think DP might have a coronary if I suggested he build a crib :o; his "to do" list is starting to cause him quite a bit of stress of course I did give him the list back in March & he has only just started trying to tackle it so I have to keep reminding myself not to be too sympathetic Wink

tyelperion sounds like a great plan; if you have a wide bed base you might have to stuff the gap with towels (most co-sleepers have a flap to bridge the gap) but that's hardly a major issue. Wish I lived near an Ikea Envy

thepippy if you're happy to go along with being induced that's great but please do be aware of your rights; they can't make you do anything; you can just politely decline & I would personally do my own research; a lot of the reasons for inducing are highly flawed...in most of the rest of Europe "full term" is considered 42 weeks & they give you another 2 weeks on top of that without hassle. Crossing my fingers for you that you go into labour naturally before it even becomes an issue :)

HoneyLovesCake · 12/09/2011 15:44

thepippy you could always insist they monitor your placenta with ultrasound instead...that's my plan if I go past 42 weeks & they push me for an induction. They've already tried telling me they don't have the facilities for that down here deepest darkest Cornwall but I know they have ultrasound machines less than 10 miles from where I live so I'm willing to stick to my guns.

ThePippy · 12/09/2011 16:14

Thanks honey that is good advise. I think I would insist on them monitoring for a few days before allowing the induction definitely. I have a feeling this little boy is coming early, but then I had the same feeling with DD - wishful thinking on my part I think ;-)

Hats off to all you co-sleepers - no idea how you cope! I managed 2 months with DD in moses basket in our bedroom then flipped due to not getting ANY sleep (I'm a very light sleeper and her completely normal sleeping noises kept me awake most of the night) and moved her to her cot in her own room. I have to say though it was the best thing I could have done because she seemed way more settled in the cot (much better mattress IMO) and within a week was sleeping through the night from dream feed about 11pm until 7am in the morning.

mopsytop · 12/09/2011 16:36

Ow, my mid back is really aching now after a few hours on the gym ball. Is this really just my unused muscles?

msbuggywinkle · 12/09/2011 16:44

Really was just wondering as the co-sleeping thingies all seem to be so expensive.

Pippy I sleep better with them next to me, that way they can stay latched on all night without me needing to move! I seem to have very sucky babies though.
