Had no idea what to call it, sorry. Just googled third trimester and that was the recommendation...

sorelip - your name should really be "sore heart" - that's a lot of extra grief which no-one needs, let alone a new mother! Sad I hope the GP is able to be more helpful today, now s/he has a chance to make more than a first-hearing response.

mopsy - don't feel "stupid" about not wanting clothes beforehand. God knows, sometimes things do go wrong. Would it make you feel better to borrow/ buy second hand, and/or to have those things sitting with a friend or relative, ready for you to go home?

more Star Trek/Doctor Who suggestions:

  • "Energise!" (for labour)
  • "Beam me up" (for pethedine and epidural) (alternatively: "set phaser to stun!")
  • If I'm in deperate straits, it'll be hard to avoid thinking about "losing structural integrity"!
  • "First contact!"

And of course, we're all bound by the Prime Directive: our little ones' safe arrival. Smile

BTW, on the hospital bags, sick/pooey clothes bag is an excellent idea! (sevensevenseven, that was in fact the very reason I included 2 "superfluous" nursing bras: DS sicked a load of milk into my cleavage during one of his first feeds last time, and I had NOTHING to change into!) I'd forgotten about nipple cream.

And you've mentioned clary sage oil before, msbuggywinkle, but what does it do, and how do you use it?

LittleMissFlustered · 06/10/2011 13:15

cheep If you're concerned just ring the number for local midwife on your notes. It will usually refer through to midwife central and they'll happily answer your questions:)

Pram, I got this as I do a lot of walking. I have bought a carrycot mattress for it so will be set to walk on and on and on. I tend to get messenger type bags as nappy bag as I can't carry a backpack comfortably. I like wipe clean too. The free one from boots is pants though. I miss my old silver cross one, it was ace.

Labour bag, got odds and ends sorted, but not finished. Will be quite simple though.

Off to see if my hedgehog lodger is ok. I rescued him from the garden earlier, just waiting on the hog lady to contact me.

LittleMissFlustered · 06/10/2011 13:20

We made 'most active' ladies. Have a celebratory Brew Wink

figgygal · 06/10/2011 13:22

blimey i havent even thought about labour bag yet!! I might have a think on the weekend since there is so much good information on the thread before we have to start a new one. Mopsy i wish i hadnt bought as much as we did as early as we did as i think it has made the last 3 months or so really drag seeing it all around the house.

Well as much as my Dr appointment this morning was a predictable bust (wrist pain is due to fluid in joints not much can do other than prescribed anti inflammatorys) he was lovely and said he couldnt believe i was 31 weeks.....bless him.

DH and I Going out for dinner tonight 3 courses for two with a drink £16.50 god bless groupon looking forward to it, even if expectations are on the low side based on the price.

fusam · 06/10/2011 14:14

A few additional things for the labour, especially for those who would potentially have a CS (considering statistically it's about 1/4).

Peppermint tea or cordial for post surgery trapped wind.
Huge knickers that will not sit on scar tissue
Extra pillow to put over wound
fibrogel
arnica tablets

General list,
Disinfectant wipes as some maternity ward toilets are mingin.
face wipes for me to freshen up
granola bars or snacky bits and juice
bras
nipple cream
dark coloured towel
two cheapo pjs
clothes for home
flip flops for mingin hospital showers (I really appreciate the NHS but I don't know why they let postnatal ward toilets/showers to get in such a state in some PCTs)
a small amount of money
toiletries, I am tipping toiletries into small plastic containers rather than full bottles

muslin cloths
nappies
cotton wipe things
sleepsuits
vests
hats
swaddling blanket
pram suit
stretchy sling

phone and charger

I am packing an extra bag in case of more than a couple of days stay that DH can just bring to me. Last time I asked him to bring me a change of clothes, he turned up with some stupid selection of slinky evening tops that wouldn't have fitted my one arm alone my post pregnancy belly, cue a huge row. Oh and I had asked him for my yoga trousers and he turned up with some lyra/spandex workout tiny thing

hawthers · 06/10/2011 14:24

mopsy I'mm 29 weeks too and apart from ordering a new moses basket mattress I've not done a thing although already have DS so 'shouldn't' need too much Hmm

Still don't know if I'll have to have a cs or whether I can try for a vbac so def not mentally prepared yet. Seems I won't know for at least another 3 weeks Confused

lalababy · 06/10/2011 14:41

I am curious to know who is actually gonna type up the last post... then we will find out which trekky reference will win!

Anyway... I have copied the hospital bag list and included a plastic jug to pour water on myself while peeing Grin and some pain killers just in case. Not gonna put "push it" on the ipod but will put some relaxing music and hypnobirthing stuff! Deffo think 2 bags is the way to go.

As for shopping mopsy and hawthers I am 29 weeks to and haven't done much shopping. Although my mum advised that I should start getting organised now before 35 weeks when she reckons you start getting really tired. Frankly I am just gonna buy most things online so don't even have to trudge up to mothercare... and better prices online anyway!

Sorelip · 06/10/2011 15:15

GP appointment went well, I have been referred to the appropriate mental health people, and he told me what to write on my council medical assessment form, which I have now completed and posted off. He said that the council have to do something before my due date, which is exactly 2 months from today.

In other news, I believe that my unborn child is trying to disembowel me :)

AheadlesswomancalledHorse · 06/10/2011 15:41

Cheep, are you alright? I would phone the MW too (if you've not already done it).

Sorelip, glad the GP was helpful!

figgy, hope you have an excellent time tonight, what a bargain! Although I have no idea where you find the room for a 3 course meal & a baby!

mopsy, don't feel stupid for being superstitious; I bought a baby record book & refuse to write anything in it, until baby gets here. I'm only washing the 2nd hand clothes that we've got (none of the new stuff we've been given) before it arrives.

I'm 29 weeks today, and may have to start referring to myself as Enterprise (feeling a lot bigger than a stable). Grin

LittleMissFlustered · 06/10/2011 15:44

I think enterprise doesn't cut it. We're all marvellously modelling our TARDIS like nature, as there is no way all that should fit in thereGrin

LittleMissFlustered · 06/10/2011 15:46

In other news: hedgehogs really smell!

The hedgehog rescue person should be here in the next hour or so though:)

OiMissus · 06/10/2011 15:55

Other news: WE'VE SOLD THE HOUSE!!!!!!!
They offered the full asking price and I accepted!
Now we've got to find a house to buy!

hurrah hurrah hurrah hurrah hurrah! GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

HoneyLovesCake · 06/10/2011 16:16

Oi Congratulations...how exciting!!! Have you seen a house you like? I assume you're not looking to take on a project Hmm

Re: thread names my vote's for "She Canna Take Any More, Captain..." because that's how my body feels right now & the Dr Who references go right over my head; I tried to get into it after so many posts about the show on here but I just couldn't get into it.... sorry :)

msbuggy I was going to use braided thread for the cord too after seeing it done on homebirth diaries but I haven't mentioned it to MW; I assume they're ok with it? If not I'd just change it once they left :o

msbuggywinkle · 06/10/2011 16:32

Oi congratulations! Hope it goes swiftly and simply.

Honey they'll be fine, just tell them what you're doing. Don't ask.

plu it stimulates contractions. Anecdote I know, but a friend's labour re-started having stalled for about three hours after a bath with clary sage oil in it. For me though (hippy overdose coming!) I find the smell grounding and I've been careful to avoid it totally since DD2's birth, hoping it will act as another hypnobirthing trigger.

I just watched three episodes of Dr Who. And cried. So much that DD2 gave me a kiss and brought me a blanket. Grin

ThePippy · 06/10/2011 16:41

Just skim read the last 4 pages of thread (you have been busy and we are almost at the end of the thread!!)

Can't remember who said what but..

We have a McClaren XT which I wish we had got from birth and not bothered with the iCandy Apple which we had. I liked the apple, but frankly the XT gives you all the same functionality (including lie flat) but way more compact and therefore easy to use. It is actually much easier to enclose the baby inside the hoods etc too, so the issue I had with DD needing to have stimulation blocked out to get her to sleep went away when we got it, and we stopped needing to drape the pushchair in loads of coats/muslins etc.

Also, we have a SkipHop mini changer that I think someone mentioned getting and LOVE it. It is now (at the age of 2yrs) the only thing we really still grab and go with when we go out with DD as it has everything that we need for a change on the go.

On the lists, I was looking through my hospital lists I made for when I had DD (obviously all stored in Excel on my laptop given I am a total geek) and I was chuckling at some of the stuff I had on there, including things like fractionated coconut oil for baby's skin in case it was dry (an NCT teacher recommendation) and all sorts of unecessary crap. I deleted at least half the content so I am traveling lite this time.

In other news I had a growth scan this week an baby is about 4.9lbs currently with predicted birth weight of 7.5-8lbs - which I know is never accurate but at least it wasn't scary.

LittleMissFlustered · 06/10/2011 16:43

Yay for house selling!Grin

Boooo to star trekWink (maybe we should go star wars and have tractor beams set to pull us toward December instead? )

More boooooo to car problems, lady from the hogspital is unable to get to us and the random stinky 'hog:(

I am rapidly beginning to think that I may need a pizza for tea!

HoneyLovesCake · 06/10/2011 16:50

Oooh Ooooh pleeeease can someone come up with some clever Star Wars related title!!! All our pets have name from Star Wars & when DP & I were arguing discussing which surname to give the LO & I suggested giving them there own brand new surname (like the 70's "Wild" kids) he suggested "Fett"...as in Boba Fett Hmm :o

Xiaoxiong · 06/10/2011 16:55

I'm still going for "she canna take much more, cap'n". You've got to admit it's the most appropriate!!

Star Wars ones that occur to me...
"your lack of faith disturbs me"
"we're doomed"
"she may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts"
"the force is strong with this one"
"Luke, I am your father"

I dunno, none of them really ring true to me...

Xiaoxiong · 06/10/2011 16:57

Or the immortal Han Solo quotes "let's blow this thing and go home"... and "one thing's for sure, we're gonna be a lot thinner" (wishful thinking? Grin)

HoneyLovesCake · 06/10/2011 17:06

To LO..."Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?" :o

Xiaoxiong · 06/10/2011 17:11

I still think the star trek one works best. aethel suggested it and horse and plu like it too...

"December 2011 - She Canna Take Much More, Cap'n..."

Counting down the posts...

HoneyLovesCake · 06/10/2011 17:15

I like it too :o Let's go for it!

Xiaoxiong · 06/10/2011 17:22
