Had no idea what to call it, sorry. Just googled third trimester and that was the recommendation...

Oi apparently maternity pads are better than normal STs as they are softer, and the ultra weave stuff on the normal ones can catch on your stiches. Also, according to my Mumsnet guide, it is good to be able to gauge how much blood you are losing, which the Always ones sort of hide. So just when we can stop waddling due to being weeble-shaped, we will have to waddle due to nappy-esque maternity pad in our pants!

Apparently they move around a lot, so my plan is to wear 2 pairs of granny knickers to hold them in tight - glamour puss!

mopsytop · 30/09/2011 08:27

Of course, none of us are going to need stitches :)

Jennifaerie · 30/09/2011 08:50

Can I join? I'm new, due 22/12, and expecting a little girl.

OiMissus · 30/09/2011 08:52

Good lord, is there no end??! yuk.

OiMissus · 30/09/2011 08:53

Welcome jennifaerie! Hope your pregnancy is going well.

mopsytop · 30/09/2011 08:54

Welcome Jennifaerie!

OiMissus · 30/09/2011 08:55

My previous post - of course - was about wadlling and maternity pads (- the one that ended with yuk. :) )
I wasn't replying to your post jenni! "can I join?" - me "Is there no end?"
How rude! Wink

mopsytop · 30/09/2011 08:56

Haha, Oi. I know, the waddling. SO not a good look :(

Jennifaerie · 30/09/2011 09:03

hehe Oi I hadn't even thought of that (though now I suspect) pregnancy is going well for bubba but I'm not very good at it , I've been signed off with SPD for the last 5 weeks and doesn't look like I'll be going back. Meh never mind, at least I get some time to relax before she arrives!

I bought maternity pads yesterday, someone on another forum recommended men's tena pads as they don't leak... could be worth a look?

msbuggywinkle · 30/09/2011 09:04

Welcome jenni!

Maternity pads are not much fun, I have to use cloth ones as I'm allergic to the gel, it causes burning itchiness.

Had a good chat to DP last night about the sciatica, we now have a plan. He will be doing all of the weeks cooking on a Sunday, and is taking over all housework so I can focus my ability to stand up on doing stuff with the DDs. I feel like as it is confirmed now I can actually admit to how painful it really is. Thank Gods this is our last baby!

Am spending this afternoon at DD1's best friends house helping to use up their craft stuff surplus. Hoping my best friend can make it with her DC too so I can have a proper complain!

HoneyLovesCake · 30/09/2011 09:06

Hi Jenni happy to have you aboard! Do you have any other DC's or is this your first?

kri5ty I've made a note to ask her so hopefully will have more info Tues afternoon; sure it's nothing though...could just be growing pains I suppose, don't know about you but I'm expanding at a frightening rate. I'm Envy of you making out nuggets bits; think I've got too much water for that :(

LO was very active last night after barely any movements all day. I was very hot & feeling sluggish though so I guess they just felt the same. Usually love the heat but I had to have a fan on me when the room thermometer hit 26 degrees...funny now to think I'd been hoping for a late summer beach holiday this year; thank goodness I didn't book anything I'd have been miserable!

Question does anyone have any experience of online shopping within the EU?Do you have to pay duty/tax? I thought not but I can't find a firm answer online & I realised this week that I can buy a BabyBay from Amazon Germany loads cheaper than over here.

Jennifaerie · 30/09/2011 09:11

HoneyLovesCake This is our first so I'm a little nervous but not too bad, I'm having a baby shower tomorrow. We're doing the NCT classes at the minute to try and figure out what we're meant to do with her when she arrives  I have seven nephews and nieces as we're both the youngest sibling so we have something of a clue thankfully.

msbuggywinkle · 30/09/2011 09:15

honey I had to have the fan on to get to sleep last night, even with the window open.

I found going from 1-2 children much easier than 0-1. We did have a few hairy weeks when DD2 started crawling but other than that I actually find having 2 easier than 1 as they do entertain each other sometimes. I found a sling invaluable as DD2 got all of the stimulation she needed from just being around what DD1 was doing, she pretty much only came out for nappy changes!

Jennifaerie · 30/09/2011 09:18

msbuggywinkle don't tell me that! I can't do this again any time soon  we're planning on leaving a gap of around 3 or 4 years as I've been off sick for a fair bit of my pregnancy which is a bit rubbish. Don't fancy a 30 mile public transport commute with 2 mile walk mixed in on crutches/ with SPD/PGP!

Xiaoxiong · 30/09/2011 09:36

Jenni, welcome, you found us! See I told you we were friendly (and chatty!)

mopsy we went to our NCT class yesterday and every single other couple already had cots/moses baskets, car seats, prams and loads of other stuff. We have approximately...nothing...barring a few handknit cardis. And DH had a little spat with the NCT teacher and raged all the way home afterwards Sad

If you see me on here too much today, please shout at me - trying to be uber efficient today so we can leave for our babymoon a bit early and beat the traffic. (I know, I know, the word babymoon is boaktastic but we're basically reliving our honeymoon this weekend in Bristol so the comparison is apt!)

Xiaoxiong · 30/09/2011 09:39

PS everyone, Jenni says she is a geek too just like us so I knew she'd fit right in Grin

Awomancalledhorse · 30/09/2011 09:52

Welcome Jenni! We're due on the same day, and slightly childish of me...do you think DH will be happy if I ask him to buy me some Mens Tena Pads? I was the first girlfriend he ever bought tampons for (trooooo love!) and he was Blush.

Tyelperion, was it a big deal spat with NCT teacher? Was it over your use of the term 'babymoon' Wink
Hope you have an excellent weekend, would love to relive our honeymoon (Cumbria) but don't fancy all that hill walking atm..not to mention the drive from London to Cumbria, think of the toilet stops!

I asked this on the Dec first timers thread, but thought I should ask you swotty lot too; Could my sense of smell be so altered during the pregnancy that I find a perfume amazing now, but hate it once I've popped?
Don't want to go on a spending spree only to find stuff unwearable next year!

Jennifaerie · 30/09/2011 09:59

awomancalledhorse haha it's well worth a try, I think I asked mine to buy me tampons once and he bought the wrong ones so I've never asked again! I was thinking I might order some online, how many packs of pads will we need on average? I only have one pack of 10 regular maternity pads for the minute.

Tyelperion sorry to hear you had trouble with the NCT teacher! There's a wide range at our class and I have most of the stuff we need now but as long as you have it before LO arrives I can't see why it would matter? Has he calmed down now? What did the teacher say?

fusam · 30/09/2011 10:07

Welcome Jenni

awch I couldn't stand any sort perfume or scented product for about 18 months after I had dd. I have no explanation except that newborns supposedly know their mother's by their scent (could be an old wife's tale). I guess it could be that I got that into my head and turned myself off perfumes iyswim.

ThePippy · 30/09/2011 10:12

Morning all and welcome jenni

7 weeks left at work today - wooo hooo I can't wait.

msbugg I am intrigued by the cloth maternity pads you mentioned. I was driven to distraction by the itching I had as a result of 6 weeks wearing maternity pads night and day after DD was born so maybe I am sensitive to the gel too. Where do you find the cloth ones?

tyelperion my NCT class with DD regularly ended up in disagreements between the teacher and the class. She would mention things then get really vague when someone drilled on the reasons why (because she clearly didn't know the answer) but to be honest most of us were there to meet each other rather than learn facts about pregnancy/birth/newborns and we have often had a giggle at her expense since. Hope you enjoy your babymoon - sounds wonderful.

mopsytop · 30/09/2011 10:25

It's weird, I keep hearing negative things about NCT classes, which is why I am only doing the NHS ones but surely there must be lots of positive stories too? I have heard from so many people that they are a bit evangelical about 'natural' no-intervention birth and breastfeeding and make women who have to have C-sections or epidurals or whatever, for whatever reasons, or can't breastfeed (or don't want to) for whatever reasons, feel guilty. I have enough guilt in my life all by myself so thought I'd avoid and also, I cannot bear being preached to and although of course I'd love an intervention-free birth/to be able to breastfeed, I realise this may not be possible and it wouldn't make me a bad person in any way. I think it's all down to luck! Anyone having good experiences of them?

HoneyLovesCake · 30/09/2011 10:30

Re Mens Tena pads, are they thin, discreet type ones with plastic backing? I read somewhere that the reason you have to use the horrid thick maternity pads is that they're more breathable. The plastic backed ones are more like to create heat & increase chance of infection :(

As for how many you need Jenni I'm a 1st timer too but I was wondering about this so did lots of online research & it seems like, as with periods it can vary but some people recommend as many as 10-12 packs Shock Think I'm going to get about 5/6 to start with & buy more if I need them. I read somewhere that you should expect to go through 24 in the first 48 hours when you're bleeding heaviest....I'm hoping someone on here with experience will say that waaay too many.

ThePippy · 30/09/2011 10:44

honey I will only be buying 2 packs in advance and then just getting more with the weekly shop after that. While I bled for a long time (6 weeks) it wasn't all that heavy after the first few days. Even then I don't think I got through anywhere near 24 in the first 48hrs but I guess everyone is different. I work on the basis that you can get most things pretty quickly these days though (obviously I don't live in a remote rural location) so I never bother buying too much on one go.

Awomancalledhorse · 30/09/2011 10:57

fusam, I think that's putting me off a bit too! Ah well no perfume splurge for me.

Supposed to be meeting a friend for lunch today, but I really cba (she's one of those lovely but 'why is my life so hard!!!' types) and I know if I see her, in my current hormonal state I'll be honest/rude about stuff. Already confirmed I'm going though, gah! Should I bother?

mopsytop · 30/09/2011 11:11

Just go and be honest AWCH - that wrecks my head, that attitude. If someone keeps on complaining but never makes any changes, I can't bear it. Fair enough if you are just going through a bad patch, but you know like people who complain about how awful their job is for YEARS but never do anything to change it. I feel like they lose the right to complain then. And why should you have to listen? Maybe if people were less polite about putting up with it, they'd do it less.

Having said that, I know that I would then just go and put up with it - I am much better at preaching than practising :)
