Another nerd here... I have a degree + 3 masters degrees. Love the studing and was really good at it... unfortunately it didn't transalte into salary...coz as much as I like nerding it up... I can't be bothered to be at the office past 6:30! I actually like having a life!!!

Honey Whats wrong with handouts... I would gladly accept them if someone offered.... however instead I am forced to work Grin

msbuggywinkle · 29/09/2011 11:54

Just got back from my 28 week appointment, all great. Baby is breech, but I knew that anyway. Final height was 30cm so also good as I'm nearly 29 weeks anyway. Midwife agrees with me that my hip pain is sciatica, but just have to see how it goes. Told me to rest, but aknowledged that it is of course impossible!

seven one of my best friends who home eds has one a level and her little girl is amazing, home ed is working so well for them. I also know one mama who studied for her gcses with her DS, they took them together and both got all a and b grades.

Xiaoxiong · 29/09/2011 12:10

I'm 31 weeks tomorrow too! And definitely feeling the "heavily" part of heavily pregnant. I've grown out of one pair of under the bump maternity trousers already - the under bump panel is too stretched out now so it bunches up when I sit down, very uncomfortable. Unfortunately they were my only pair of work trousers - luckily it is so warm I can still wear the linen trousers I was wearing over the summer, but that's not going to last long.

figgygal · 29/09/2011 13:01

I would like to think he will make his own choice about university and whether he wants to go but i know if he does and makes a career choice that will be difficult i will support him. DH studied zoology and his breadth of knowledge on natural history and animals is amazing i honestly learn so much from him everyday (most of it goes in one ear and out the other but still :))when he completed his studies and was looking for a suitable job his mum and dad forced him into taking any job so he could pay his way while he was at home and so he entered financial services which he remains in now. It makes me so sad in that I can see how frustrated he gets about it and not being able to afford to work in the field i know he would excel in. At least now he is self employed he has the time to go birdwatching and pursue his interests much more freely than he could when employed. I never want that to happen to our child and as long as they choose something that will be realistic i'll help.

HoneyLovesCake · 29/09/2011 13:25

Sooo I've been a little bit concerned that my current fitness level would not see me through a long labour; despite starting this pregnancy with the best intentions my exercise regime has fallen by the wayside & I get out breath doing odd jobs about the house :( As it's scorchio today I thought I'd take a walk to the next village to buy some bread, unfortunately I couldn't resist the Mint Magnum (for my walk back home) Blush or the iced bun (for my lunchtime dessert) Blush Blush Oh well, at least I got some exercise :)

fusam · 29/09/2011 13:35

I feel very heavily pregnant plu, I am sure I was about this size with DD when I had her Blush. I can't actually imagine my belly getting any bigger, I hope it does just deflate to my knees. Plus the baby at this stage is like what 2-3 lbs in weight, so why in the world can you see me coming around the corner?

Honey am so jealous of your 5 year plan, sounds like bliss.

Thanks for the reminder on the birth bags, I still have to buy everything that goes in one including some cheapo pjs for post natal ward.

plupervert · 29/09/2011 13:41

I'm making a list which has got a "tech" section, too (phone charger, camera charger, camera). Money for emergency taxi also important. I also have a flannel/impermeable sheet which was meant for dealing with night-time wetting of a cotbed, but which I think would serve to protect a taxi seat from the waters going.... Grin

Shall we meet back in a a few days with our lists? Anyone for whom it would be too stressful to plan so early can ease her stress by using one of our lists!

HoneyLovesCake · 29/09/2011 14:10

Oooh talking of reminders PELVIC FLOORS

Figured I'd just get some essentials together in early labour for "just in case" bag as I'm planning a homebirth...is this very naive? I'm prone to over packing, worried if I do it early I'll end up with a suitcase that I'll have to unpack again when homebirth goes perfectly :)

msbuggywinkle · 29/09/2011 15:58

honey I stick my stuff in a home birth box, means DP isn't hassling me about where to find stuff, means I get the pjs I want for after birth and that it can all be chucked in a bag in case of transfer.

Thanks for the pelvic floor reminder too. I'm booking myself in for some acupuncture to help the sciatica later, there is a place round the corner from my friend's house so she can watch the DDs for me.

I like the idea of meeting back with lists. Maybe Monday?

Earwigwam · 29/09/2011 16:02

I would recomend packing a bag early as it's the last thing you want to have to do (or have DH do) if you go in early. Disclaimer - I haven't packed mine yet but keep meaning to.

I packed too much last time and found it ended up not getting unpacked properly for ages, stuff strew about our bedroom as we too busy with the baby so plan to pack light this time.

Will be packing snacks though, DS arrived just after dinner so I had to wait till breakfast and that was just some toast. Having been nil by mouth all day on the off chance I needed a CS was very glad I packed crisps etc.

Sorelip · 29/09/2011 16:14

Hi all. Had the 31 week appointment today, and baby is still head-down, and has been for the last 3 appointments. Hopefully he stays that way.

Re education, I quit A levels, and qualified as a legal secretary instead. I never actually worked as one, instead going into recruitment and then admin. I now plan to do a distance access to midwifery course and go to uni once the baby is in school. Who knew that the pregnancy and birth process could be fascinating enough to tempt me into education!

hawthers · 29/09/2011 16:31

28 weeks and I feel like a whale

Just thought I'd share that news

Oh and pelvic floors any conclusion on how many sets we are supposed to be doing?

plupervert · 29/09/2011 17:35

snacks! Wow, Earwigwam, thanks, I had totally forgotten that. I have got as far as headings, though (e.g. "tech", travel", "me", "baby"), and some things under each heading, but totally forgot about snacks. Think I had some Lucizade bars last time...

Sorelip, good news about the orientation. My little creature is still breech - slowcoach!

OiMissus · 29/09/2011 18:37

Hi all, 31 wks tomorrow and feeling positively whale like. I'll put some thought into hospital bags maybe at weekend... After two days of remembering to do at least some pelvic floor work, I've almost wet myself twice today!!! It seems to be having the opposite effect!
Working out from the scan page, it doesn't give a size for the baby's length but the weight is 1718g - so almost 2kg - or 3.8lbs, Femur Length is 55.7mm, Head Circumference is 292.0mm, and Abdominal Circumference is 279.0mm. He's head down. :)

aethelfleda · 29/09/2011 18:41

hawthers, Heeeellllllllooooooooooo.....

(we were watching Finding Nemo. I love the bit where Dory Speaks Whale!!)

I think the consensus on pelvic floor exercises is as many as you can be bothered to do/remember about! My friend put a Post-it on her loo door so that every time she went to the toilet there was a bright pink note telling her to squeeeeeze!

plupervert · 29/09/2011 18:43

Amazing how stats about femur length and abdominal circumference made your little creature sound cute, OiMissus: far from being turned off by the clinical terms, I was just picturing little froggy legs and tummy, and of course 2kg is mini!

OiMissus · 29/09/2011 18:59

I thought it was cute too - I need a tape measure to fully appreciate his little head and round belly. :)
If I pack a bag for the hospital, they might think I want to stay, and I think I'll want to leave ASAP. Maybe I should just pack mine and baby's travel home clothes. :) And my phone so I can keep y'all updated with every push. Wink

sevensevenseven · 29/09/2011 20:35

Hope everyone has had a good day.

I was planning on packing my hospital bag around 30 weeks, so in a couple of weeks time. I think I've got everything I need to go in there except maternity pads which I still need to buy.

I've got my 28 week growth scan tomorrow morning. DS has speech therapy in the afternoon but I'll get on to update when I can.

mopsytop · 29/09/2011 20:42

Golly, you're all so organised, planning ahead like this. I haven't even thought about hospital bag yet, never mind anything else. Not a thing ready. Need to pick up the box of stuff from my SIL so that I can see what's there/what I need. Having an extra scan on Monday so will know whether it's pink or blue - if it cooperates this time!! Maybe that will kick start me.

plupervert · 29/09/2011 20:55

Maternity pads.... ugh. I needed them for about 5 weeks last time - quite disgusting, and surely very bloody unnecessary! Grin

jigglebum · 29/09/2011 20:57

mopsytop - I haven't even thought about the hospital bag yet either! I think last time I packed it a few weeks before - must start buying some stuff to go in it soon though. everyone keeps telling me that seconds are always early!

Is anyone else who is having their second beginning to get worried about how they will cope with two? DS is 3 and pretty demanding and used to having my fairly immediate attention. When I had DS though he was a crap sleeper I could relax more in the day than I will be able to this time and I am pretty rubbish on no sleep. DS has been ill this week and I think it has just brought it home how hard it will be. any tips from those who have two or more already?

kri5ty · 29/09/2011 21:48

Hospital bags... yup as you know I like to plan... I have started babies bag but would be very grateful for peoples lists!!

I have done NO pelvic floors at all! I will def do them after birth, but now I'm worrying it'll effect the birth that I haven't done any! I have (pre pregnancy) a strong core, and I know this is all connected. Fingers crossed I will be ok!

awch yup I popped over night! You can even see it through tops!

honey if you see your mw before I do let me know what she says :)

oi I'm glad gingerbaby is not gingergiant!

Ooo I had a bath earlier and could make out nuggets head, back and feet through my tummy!!

sevensevenseven · 29/09/2011 22:12

jigglebum you're not the only one worrying about it. DS is really looking forward to having a baby sister but I'm not convinced he's aware of what it will actually be like ie me being exhausted and not having as much time for him.

kristy I wouldn't have thought not doing your pelvic floors will have too bad an effect on giving birth, if they weren't strong you'd have wet yourself by now!

KateM77 · 29/09/2011 22:23

Yep, I'm worrying about how I'll cope with two as well, especially as the age gap is so small (DD is 17 months old now). Trying not to think about it too much as I know it'll just get me stressed if I do. Once DC2 arrives I'll just have to get on with things and cope somehow! I am feeling a little better now that DD is communicating so well already though - at least I won't have the frustration of not knowing what she wants

OiMissus · 30/09/2011 07:34

Morning all, it's Pelvic Floor Fridayyyyyyy! Squeee-eee--eeezee!
31 weeks today. :)
Thanks for the reminder about maternity pads... something I wouldn't have thought of.... eughkk! Are they something special, or are we talking Always super super winged towels?
kristy i feel congratulations are in order if you can make out Nugget's bits through your tummy!! I haven't had that yet.
Gingerbaby is very active this morning, he must know it's Friday!
