Had no idea what to call it, sorry. Just googled third trimester and that was the recommendation...

Pippy that's just what I wanted to hear...24 in 48 hrs sounds insane. Still think I'll get 5 packs though as I do live in a remote rural area; there's always the internet but I think I'd rather not have to think about it for a while.

Awomancalledhorse · 30/09/2011 11:39

mopsy, in the mood I'm in I'd probably loose her as a friend.

Going to vent; she lives at her parents, they're 'evil' bastards who constantly make her life hell & she can't stand living with them (they're not, they're lovely people who let her live rent/bill free), so much so that at the grand old age of 27 she's never bothered to look into moving out.
She's a type 2 diabetic but refuses to lose weight, stop smoking, eat healthly or exercise..but bitches about being ill/unfit/fat/the cost of fags.
She's got a number of child care qualifications but choses to work in a shitty hours min. wage job (the manager at the nursery she used to work for has offered her job back numerous times) then bitches about having no money/hating her job.
She expects people to come to see her, and can't grasp the idea of making your own way somewhere (she'll only come over to mine if her dad can pick her up afterwards).
GAAAAAAH, that felt great!
She has nice qualities too, and I'm not normally a bitch! Honest.

Sorry for the long, self-indulgent post. Blush

So, about those tena pads...

mopsytop · 30/09/2011 11:43

:) it's good to vent AWCH
I know a couple of people like that and, to be perfectly frank, I now just avoid them. It's easier.

I don't think I can cope mentally with buying incontinence pads (better get on with those pelvic floors!) so will stick with maternity pads.

OiMissus · 30/09/2011 12:09

AWCH go girl! I love a good vent! :)
Enjoy your babymoon Tyel, I've been thinking of getting away for a weekend in a fancy hotel, but I'm scared of booking just in case I happen to be having a bad weekend... maybe I'll have a wee look today.
pippy 7 weeks left at work for me too! Yippeeeee! Not long now.

I shall be buying maternity pads with my next tesco's shop. :(

This weekend, I'm hoping to have a pleasant shopping trip, including looking at some baby slings. I don't fancy the wraps that you tie around, they look complex, and not hubby friendly. I much prefer the idea of a simple sling that you throw over your shoulder and throw the baby in. Mothercare do one, and Boots do too. ...should've looked in mamas and papas yesterday.

Hot news: last weekend's house viewers are meeting with mortgage people and then will put in an offer! Hurrah! We have another viewer coming this weekend. SOLD!

plupervert · 30/09/2011 12:40

Hello, all, and welcome Jennifaerie!

I feel a bit rubbish, now I've realised I've only bought one packet of maternity pads, compared to the excellent stockpiling everyone else is doing! I was given some packs of TENA Lady last time, by a friend who had evidently also stockpiled, and I must say they did the job.... although so they should, for that amount of packaging - ugh! At least we will only need our pads in the winter, so won't be sweating and chafing - double ugh. Anyway, that was an interesting point about the Always; I understand midwives have to be able to inspect them for problems, so I'm not planning to go too far away from the norm, nor to use tampons, incredibly tempting as that is.

Wow, exciting news about the house, OiMissus! Does that give you time to move?

AWomanCalledHorse, just do your pelvic floor exercises while she is complaining. You will be able to really focus on them, and tune her out!

hawthers · 30/09/2011 12:40

sevensevenseven how did your growth scan go today?

I had my 28 week scan (I think for the same reason) and it went well ish. All blood flow looks good and fluid levels good but the sting in the tail as that the lo is on the small side. Which of course I can't get out of my head. Have to go back in another 3 weeks to check all stats again.

Have definitely been getting ahead of myself thinking about vbacs and christmas babies. Unfort think I need to reign it back in again and just go from appt to appt Sad and a bit weepy

awomancalledhorse I think it's more the shape of them that stops you leaking. It's something a girl I know has used for very very heavy periods in the past and the she said it's the only thing she hasn't leaked through- just google men's incontinence pads. Think she also has some of the incontinence pants as saves buying disposables.

I might grill her on it a bit more and report back :)

Enjoy your hol Tyel we went snowboarding and paragliding in January and then to Glastonbury in June so that's our lot for the year! :o

Ooh congrats Oi it's brilliant when you get somewhere with selling isn't it!

OiMissus · 30/09/2011 13:30

Tis exciting about the house, but now the pressure is on for us to find somewhere! (I currently have 4 favourites) If we accept their offer, they are ready to move as they are currently renting. I can see us in December snow waving goodbye to our house and setting up the tent in the local park. We can always rent rather than rush to buy somewhere...
Yikes! :)
hawthers we have time for our lo's to grow/calm down growing before our time comes. Let's not worry too much about it yet. Stay positive. Anyway, they don't know what they are talking about. My nextdoor neighbour was told that the baby was big, she was 1 wk overdue, and finally gave birth to a teeny baby - 4lb 11oz. (The baby is absolutely fine and now at home 2 days after the birth - cs).

Jennifaerie · 30/09/2011 13:38

Yep Hawthers I second what Oi said, my friend was told her LO was really big, she went to 41+6 and had a 6lb 6oz DD

hawthers · 30/09/2011 13:53

Hey thanks girls for the msgs of reassurance.

DS1 was born at 31 wks weighing 2lbs (900g) and spent 16 weeks in the NICU before coming home. At risk of same thing happening with this one. Just hyper sensitive about all things baby size related. Still in a better position than last time so fingers crossed that they are out with their measurements.

OiMissus · 30/09/2011 15:37

Izzit hometime yet?

I'm out tonight to the Bodypump instructor's 40th birthday party, so I'll get to see some of the girls. I don't get out much these days, and it'll be nice as they'll make a fuss of my mahoosive bump.

I wonder if I can still wear heels... a la Victoria Beckham at The Wedding... or whether I'd look very silly, fall over, and be very uncomfy...
There will be dancing.
However, it's Friday, so I'll probably be asleep in the corner. Zzzz....

What are you all doing?
Whatever it may be, have a great (and comfortable, painfree, stressfree) weekend!

Mmmmcheese · 30/09/2011 15:54

hawthers do they know why your DS was early? Mine was born at 30 weeks and I'm also worried about the same thing happening again, they never found a reason why.

I had a 28 week scan today and have the opposite worry to you as she is suddenly measuring really big! She is off the chart in terms of femur length and abdominal circumference - measuring at average for 31 weeks - and is already 3lbs 3oz. They didn't seem worried but it is odd as I had a scan two weeks ago where she was measuring 50% exactly for everything. Am I eating too much?! They didn't seem worried about diabetes or anything and I haven't been offered a GTT.

Always something to worry about!

hawthers · 30/09/2011 16:41

He had interuterine growth restriction - basically the placenta wasn't working properly so his growth was restricted and they delivered by elcs before the placenta failed completely. No idea why it happened on the first place but am at risk of developing it again so having regular scans to check this baby's growth

KateM77 · 30/09/2011 17:04

DH is getting Fish and Chips for us on his way home tonight, and Strictly starts again too. My happiness is complete Grin

OiMissus · 30/09/2011 17:21

Fish, chips and Strictly - that sounds like an excellent plan! (almost sad to be going out now! - will have to catch up with Strictly on the iplayer tomorrow).
I hope there's a buffet at the party. Smile

figgygal · 30/09/2011 17:30

30 weeks today yaaaay!!! My bump has officially gotten to the stage where i have lost spatial awareness and bump into things, i almost knocked over a glass of water all over my laptop earlier ha ha.

Had a pig of a day at work today was stressing so am really glad its weekend but now you have me thinking about maternity pads which might actually be scarier.

DH is away for the weekend so i have pizza for tea (he hates cheese and moans whenever i have one) and some Ben and Jerry's for weekend long consumption (unfortunately no frozen yoghurt its the full fat bad stuff hence why it wont be consumed in 1 sitting).

I have a hen do tomorrow and we going for champagne afternoon tea at Harvey Nicks in Bristol and i shall be enjoying a glass of champagne damn it!!

KateM77 · 30/09/2011 17:31

I hope there's a buffet for you too Oi. It's the best thing about parties these days - not like you can throw yourself into the drinking or dancing!

msbuggywinkle · 30/09/2011 17:48

We're having pasta with roasted tomatoes and goat's cheese, my favourite 'I can't really be bothered to cook' meal. I'll hopefully watch Strictly depending on when DD2 goes to sleep, she's tired now but that does not mean she might not manage to stay awake until 9pm.

KateM77 · 30/09/2011 18:07

Sounds like you've earned a glass of champagne figgy - enjoy :)

sevensevenseven · 30/09/2011 18:16

Thanks for asking hawthers. Can I ask is IUGR actually a condition/failing of the placenta or just a term used for babies below a certain weight? The sonographer put in my notes 'growth scan due to previous IUGR' but it's the first time DS has been described as having/being IUGR. Anyway, scan went fine, estimated weight is 1188g although I don't know how normal that is for 28 weeks as she didn't say anything about the size. It doesn't mean much to me anyway though as I was told DS would be a big baby and he obviously wasn't.

Been a bit of a crap day other than the scan, DH popped into his mums when we got back to give her a scan photo and ended up having an argument with her. She wasn't remotely interested in how the scan went (didn't even ask!) but just went on about SIL's problems with her XH (FWIW he was bankrupt, twice divorced and had abandoned 2 kids when they married so she knew what he was like). It doesn't sound major but it comes after years of DH feeling less important than BIL and SIL. He told her SIL is a grown woman and that he has his own problems, she then told him he has nothing to worry about, especially compared to SIL's problems.

Also our home insurance on our empty flat is due, we got a renewal quote but it was for buildings and contents cover. We phoned to tell them it's empty so we don't need contents cover, they then quoted more than it should have been in the first place! They knocked off £50 when we told them it was ridiculous but I suspect we're still getting a rubbish deal.

Sorry for the me me me post but I'm feeling low and DH has gone to work tonight in a bad mood. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

jigglebum · 30/09/2011 19:19

evening all - feeling a bit brain dead this evening after a day at work and being up every night this week with DS due to illness so apologies for not name checking and responding properly to people. Sorry that a couple of you have worries about the babies size though and welcome to jenni

Someone asked about NCT - I did it last time and learnt quite a lot. I think it depends on the teacher. I agree that they do tend to focus on the natural birth stuff though. Was great for meeting people at the same stage of pregnancy though. This time we are just doing a day a the local hospital to remind ourselves of some stuff and get the hospital tour (as we have moved since DS)

Re maternity pads - think I bought 2 packets. Agree that you do need these rather than normal pads as they are more absorbant and yes you do waddle a bit with them (but then most people do after giving birth I think for a few days at least) I then went down to normal pads. Buy some cheapy knickers/or take old kncikers too as you might have to chuck a few pairs. Just thought of another really useful thing to add to your lists though and and that is lanlisol (or something similar) for use on cracked nipples when breast feeding. feeling very disorganised though as have not even got stuff down from the loft yet let alone bought anything more.

hawthers · 30/09/2011 20:23

seven pretty sure iugr is a blanket term for the baby not growing properly for whatever reason although it is usually associated with a knackered placenta which is why its often seen with pre-eclampsia.

My nugget's est weight is 1081g which apparently is 10th percentile although from the evil onternet it looks more like 25th. Ho hum

Oh and re home ins our old ins co wouln't insure an empty property so I had to check around and tere are massive differences but we did get a deal in the end though but had to hint it out

aethelfleda · 30/09/2011 20:29

seven, IUGR just means that baby is smaller than expected given how far along they are. There are lots of different reasons for it, placenta not working beautifully is a common one, but it's just shorthand for "they aren't getting as big as quickly as maybe they should'. So it's a description rather than telling you the reason why.

About those pads- I had 1-2 pack of maternity pads for the first 2 days and then moved onto super-night-time-winged towels.

sevensevenseven · 30/09/2011 21:07

Thanks ladies. I read through my earlier post and realised how much I was whinging earlier, sorry. I'm not going to be miserable anymore, I'm having a much longed for baby girl, I just need to remind myself what's important more often. Anyway I cheered myself up by putting up stickers in the nursery :)

Is anyone still getting cravings? I haven't had any for a few weeks now, though I won't tell DH as I can blame cravings so I don't have to justify my chocolate consumption!
