Nanny I got the Moses basket and decorative bits in Babies R Us and the furniture is a special offer collection by Mama's and Papa's but we ordered it from a local stockist purely because that way we could choose delivery times.

It was the decreasing number of pay packs left that made me do something proactive, I don't want dd's Christmas compromised because of needing to buy baby bits.

Dh did say we could to the baby show but seems to have conveniently forgotten, may have to remind him and try to rustle up a babysitter!

Livened · 05/09/2011 12:07

It's lovely to be part of such a chatty thread - no. 4 is quite an achievement and we're only just halfway to our EDD!

Thought I'd check in as I have my scan tomorrow which means a few things:

  1. I'm nervous about seeing if everything is ok...
  2. Excited to see if we're team Pink, Blue or Yellow (last scan bump was not at all cooperative so I'm just hoping they have their bits on show!)
  3. Cue buying lots of pink, blue or neutral things!

My bump is still non existent which is very annoying - if one more person says "oooh, you're not showing at all are you..." i will lose the plot! I wnder if I just have less fluid or something, as I'm now feeling very regular kicks and movement (especially when shouting at DH ;)) so baby must be growing much bigger me thinks...

Also my doppler arrived last week. I'm not addicted to it at all, but I listen in every few days and take some real comfort if i've not had much movement that day for instance. I've also started readying a book on labour and relaxation to help make it as smooth as possible which is really helping me to deal with the whole prospect of giving birth.

Work are being a bit more understanding now which is great news - many thanks to all who gave advice - I just kept politely reminding them that I was indeed pregnant and that I need some support.

Still no plaster on our walls at the house, I'm just hoping the renovations are done in time and baby doesn't come early!

Anyone else starting to look forward to the birth and what are you doing to prepare yourselves? I've just booked onto a pregnancy yoga course and can't wait!

x

ghosteditor · 05/09/2011 12:26

Livened hope the scan goes well, how exciting! I too have booked onto an antenatal yoga course, which starts tonight! I'll be doing NCT in November too.

nanny01 you're right, I do need to try to keep her in, but the trick is getting her to come home first! Plus she's a smart little thing and has managed to break out of a locked cat flap before. This is the collar I mentioned, which I bought at a local pet shop. The Ancol collars are quick release which is fab as if the cat struggles when she gets caught on something the collar will pop open quite easily - and she's lost a few in her time so I know they do work. Hopefully it will make people think twice.

Fryn · 05/09/2011 12:43

Nanny - good grief, your MiL is something else! What a cow. How does your DH feel about her?

Livened - I started ante natal yoga last week. The session itself was lovely and relaxing, the stiffness next day less so! But then again, I haven't done any exercise in months, other than lug DD around, so that's probably why.

ghost - the rate I've been going this morning, I think I need one of those cat collars! Damn these people coming back from holiday with sweets.

shonnomanom · 05/09/2011 12:59

How rude of your MIL Nanny!
Good luck with the cat issues ladies.

Fryn Yes it was her first baby, perfectly normal labour and birth but apparently baby takes after my brother who is so laid back that he is almost verticle. The mw had said that the baby was lazy and expected the labour to go on longer than it did.

livened I wouldnt worry about the size of your bump, It will pop out when its ready. My sister is expecting twins on Jan26th, when we're together people get confused and think it must be me who is having twins as she is barely showing yet as well.

Having a bit of a pregnancy brain (few)days. Yesterday I miss read the cooking instructions for dinner and was worried that the oven was broke when the dinner was cooked properly. OH saved the day. Today, again miss read the till on the self check out in Asda. Called the woman over to tell her that the till owed my cash. She rudely put it that it was me that owed them more money. Cheeky bitch walked away calling me a stupid cow.

supadupapupascupa · 05/09/2011 13:24

livened what time is your scan? Got mine at 9:20am and am very excited to know which team we are.....

Livened · 05/09/2011 13:35

Hi Supa its not until 3.20pm (so my DH can finish work early and come along) - I'm very jealous yours is in the morning.

I guess I'll spend most of the morning on Mumsnet so look forward to hearing which team you are in!

I did a silly online gender guessing thing:

spacefem.com/pregnant/predictor/

Quite fun but I still think it's going to be a girl.. OH thinks a Boy so we'll just have to see who's right.

Anyone already had their scans and got their predictions correct?

Nanny01 · 05/09/2011 14:26

Thanks ladys forgot to add a few months back had an argument and she hit me so she isn't my favorite person. I'm afraid our relationship is really deteriating. Yesterday she asked for some speakers for her ipod knowing obviously that we arn't well of frankly I will be breastfeeding and carrying my baby around so she can't get her mits on our new baby. Frankly she is useless with baby's and already has her favorite grandchild ds1 ( which my 2 dd's are aware of). As you can see the pregnancy hormones arn't helping the situation.

Hoping to get some free tickets for the baby show as I made enquirys with someone who will be having a stall down there and they said they would send me some. Hopefully not the Friday though.

GiraffeAHolic - My dh has no sense of urgency. In a way I know in my head that the shops aren't going to run out but When there are bargains to be had I prefer to get them. Also with 4 other kids I don't want to spoil there Christmas or make them resent the new baby because we have to buy him things.

GiraffeAHolic · 05/09/2011 15:00

Reminded dh about the baby show and we are going to go on the saturday (babysitter dependent). I'm sure in my paperwork/magazines/catalogues somewhere I've seen a code for money off tickets so going to try and hunt that out.

Does anyone crochet? Is it faster than knitting? I've never considered it before but would like to make a blanket and wonder if it would be quicker than knitting one?

fishandlilacs · 05/09/2011 15:59

giraffe I can crochet a very little-I can do a nice granny square, it is quite fast, but then i dont knit to compare it. Nice to make something personal though. I have a friend who is amazing at it. She has a blog and makes the most beautiful baby stuff. She's also a MN'er but has just had a gorgeous girl.

fishandlilacs · 05/09/2011 15:59

..whoops pressed enter too fast.

...she has just had a gorgeous baby girl, so wont be doing much in the way or projects at the moment.

GiraffeAHolic · 05/09/2011 17:12

Thanks fish I've got a load of wool oddments kicking around so might give it a go, I actually got a crochet hook a few weeks ago for finishing off knitted bootees and now can't find it anywhere. I'm halfway through a hat so will persevere with that and then look at blankets Smile

Oh and enjoy your Spanish chicken, sounds delicious Wink

falabalamb · 05/09/2011 19:15

Giraffe, I can't get my head around crocheting, I should make more of an effort to learn. I like knitting but am pretty rubbish at all but the very basic. Just knitted a wool soaker for babies bum. Am also laboriously working my way through a cardigan, it's not pretty!!
We had an interesting weekend, seems dd2 has threadworms, which means we all probably do!! The morning sickness nearly came flooding back when I saw one wiggling in her poo when I emptied the potty, bleurgh!!! Apparently 40% of kids under 10 get them at some point..aren't children just the best Grin. SO the cherubs and DH have been dosed and I have obsessively cleaned the entire house, beds stripped etc yuck, yuck, yuck!!!
I joined the gym on Saturday, am feeling very pleased with myself despite not actually having used it yet! Got my induction tomorrow.

Nanny, that's awful, she sounds terrible.
Livened, good luck with the scan.

fishandlilacs · 05/09/2011 19:23

fala horrible horrible things. i had them several times when i was younger. Grim. Also caught them off dd a year or so back.

One thing they don't tell you is to damp dust the bedrooms too. The eggs are so tiny they can become airborne!

A sugar starvation diet also does the job as does a garlic clove up the bum apparently but I have never tried that one myself.

shonnomanom · 05/09/2011 19:39

Oh fala that sounds horrible. If you also have them what threat does that have to the baby? fish Garlic clove up the bum? Hmm Hmm Im not even going to ask....

I am absolutely useless at both knitting and crochet. But my mum and gran are dab hands at both. Especially my gran. From what Iv witnessed crochet is alot quicker. Happy finger twitching ladies.

And good luck for all of tommorrows scanners x

OP posts:
Wormshuffler · 05/09/2011 19:48

Oh Fala...........that is a delight I thankfully never have had to deal with, despite my DC's being 12 and 10, I would give the NHS hotline a call if I were you just to check, I doubt they will do you any harm, but I know when my friends DC's had them the doc gave the whole family a treatment pack to take, which you may not be able to.......
Did anyone see Vicky Beckam out with her baby, she has an I candy............watch them now get even more popular than they already are!

falabalamb · 05/09/2011 20:07

Saw the pharmacist today and she gave us all some tablets, I can't take them though so I have to go the hygiene route. I've disinfected EVERYTHING, my hands are raw! Not sure I'll be trying the garlic up the bum treatment Fish :) !! It's only when you get something like this that you realise just how unhygienic a 2 year old can be, she really is a grubby little creature!!
Worm, what's VB's baby called, I've been trying to remember?

mummyzoe2012 · 05/09/2011 20:15

vb's baba is called harper seven..

two more sleeps till scan day.

anyone else getting sharp stabbing pains around the nipples?

abeautifulbutterfly · 05/09/2011 20:26

Ugh, don't - threadworms - we have had them twice... The washing, the dusting (tip for shorthand: take as many soft toys as possible - any you can't face washing/DC will survive without - and stash them away in sealed bin bags for at least 3 weeks - the eggs don't live any longer than that, so you don't have so much to wash. And you know you have to repeat the big wash for the second dose, don't you?
Fish: apparently drinking the juice from sauerkraut sends the little bastards scuttling as well - perhaps slightly preferable to a garlic clove up the bum. I have done many things with a garlic clove in my time (my lot get regularly dosed on garlic syrup come autumn and winter, and they get a half-crushed one on the pillow to help clear their noses when they're coldy) but that is not one of them... Nursery/preschool is just the worst place ever for threadworms.

AAAnyway, moving swiftly on: Livened, I was practically certain we would be having a third girl (and we are), but for more pragmatic reasons - given that DH works with radio fairly hands-on I think his boy sperm are pretty much banjaxed. And I knew when we had done the deed in relation to ovulation and I reckoned there was no chance of a boy...

Bit of a rant: had my first rude person actually say today: "Oh, another girl, so you were unlucky then?" WTF?? I've seen others thinking it, and a half-twitch of a face-drop, but no-one had yet been outrageous enough to say it. I think everyone thinks we were having a last-ditch attempt at a boy Hmm

Nanny I sympathise on the MIL from hell - I have one too, though she hasn't actually hit me yet Shock. I haven't seen her during this pregnancy yet - indeed if I work it right I may get away with a few hours on Christmas Eve and that will be that...

Supa, Livened, what news?

redheadbedhead · 05/09/2011 21:28

Hello everyone. Sorry not to catch up properly with everyone's news but I have had a mental few days and no sleep. Builders are in ripping out fireplaces, cat's walked in fresh concrete, been choosing carpets, collecting rocking chairs bought on ebay, etc etc. Getting the house ready is taking forever!!

I can't sleep because of achey legs and arms - like restless leg syndrome but not so twitchy. has anyone else got this? it's driving me crazy. Last night I got about 1 hours decent sleep!!!! Sad

Tried to google it but can't work out what it is. I must be a freak.

Belini · 05/09/2011 21:35

Just quickly popping in to say I have 1 pink 1 blue woop woop will catch up with you all properly once I have moved on wed really shouldbe packing Grin

shonnomanom · 05/09/2011 21:54

Congratulations belini!! Good luck with the moving x

Red I looked up the restless leg thing ages ago and apparently its quite common in pregnancy. I get it mostly in the evening. It hasnt bothered my sleep yet, but then I wouldnt have noticed as im hardly sleeping anyway.
Hope you get your house back soon

OP posts:
fishandlilacs · 05/09/2011 21:57

congrats belini-didn't realise it was twins! Nice to have the pair.

butterfly My nan has been the rudest so far about gender. Her actual words were "oh you wont mind so much now youre going have one of each" I really didn't understand what she meant-what did I mind? being pregnant? that dc1 is a girl? she can be so weird.

Is anyone else hearing an increasing amount of people coming down with a D&V bug? I have heard of 8 people near me recently. I really really don't want it.

Oeisha · 05/09/2011 22:25

Belini Congrats! Grin You're team purple then!

Butterfly how rude! Can't remember if you'd announced you colours before (I can barely remember where I am today), but congrats again!

Nanny Seriously, I wouldn't let my kids anywhere near my MIL if she were like that...

Have people been updating the stats thread with their colours? Looks like you all have, just haven't popped up on my "I'm on" list... Confused. Anyway, another link here... link for ease of access...

worm should've never told me about whasserface-twiglet-sourfaced-talentless-singer-married-to-some-jerk-footballer-blah-blah-blah and the iCandy...talk about a turn-off. In case we're wondering...don't like her...or him...but hey-ho!

Am planning on taking DH to visit JL and the iCandy peach on Sat, checking he can push it about without being hunched over. And check the carseat we want fits our cat Confused car...

Took miself off swimming today again. Again Yolkis went loopy and bashed about. Bless her. A retired MW saw me talking to my belly and we ended up having a really nice chat about stuff. She said Yolkis being on her head was a lot more common in Mums that swim, and if possible, to keep the swimign up as it's excellent core/abs work and will encourage Yolkis to be head down and not breech in last trimester...ooh errr....

Livened well, I had a go, and apparently Yolkis is a boy and I'll be having her on the 23rd Jan... They're wrong on 1 score and I guess it'll be a while before we find out the other. Off to find out some baking powder and see who that agrees with.

Oh crap. Can smell/taste burning. Sad Must be time for bed.

redheadbedhead · 06/09/2011 08:01

congrats Bellini, that's well exciting!!

Seeing as it's so rank outside today I think I might as well start my swimming regime too Oeisha, let's get these babies into position!
