Morning all- well TFI Friday then eh? My week has also been crappy at work, 9 weeks and counting....

Glucose test came back all ok, unsurprised and slightly irritated at having to spend several hours and 2appointments on this, when the obstretician said she wasnt sure why they were sending me for it anyway.....

DS's big boy bed arriving tomorrow, thought we better vacate him from the cot well in advance.

Moobee · 07/10/2011 14:54

Sorry to hear people are not having much fun at the moment. I thought I'd post something to cheer you up for the weekend. This is a list of ridiculous baby products. I thought as a lot of us haven't started buying yet, it might be useful. Number 12 looks especially good for winter babies!

www.babygizmo.com/news/ridiculousbabyproducts2011.php

In other news, I went to the Institute of Physics awards ceremony last night. It was a super posh black tie event with lots of eminient physicists. There were lots of people I vaguely knew, lecturers from my degree and PhD and time working in a university. I passed one man who was very familar and as we passed, had the exchange:

Man: Hello
Me: Hello! How are you?
Man: Great. How are you?
Me: Good. Bye!
Man: Bye!

I was still trying to work out how I knew him when my husband turned round incredulous and said, "Are you on first name terms with the science minister?!"

Whoops!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 07/10/2011 15:05

Oh I don;t know, Moobee. Having watched helped my friend change her 7 month old yesterday I think #10 would be bloody useful. I had to hold his hands so he wouldn;t reach down into the ENORMOUS dump he had taken and smear it all over himself... Though to be fair his bottom half was pretty well covered already.

Tip for those of you unfamiliar with baby craps - weetabix basically turns into cement at the other end.

redheadbedhead · 07/10/2011 16:40

ha ha ha ha!!!!!! moobee no.12 made me laugh so much yoghurt nearly came out of my nose and I extra-hurt my rib! amazing. I'm forwarding that to all my friends so they know what to get me for christmas....

very funny about the science minister too! I once had a similar encounter with a guy in a bookshop who was quite sexy. Thought he was the brother of my best friends boyfriend at the time that I'd met once and fancied the pants off. So I went up to him all casual and said "oh hi there! aren't you tom's brother? How funny to meet you here!"
He said "Er...no I don't have a brother."
Me "Oh!! really?? I'm sure you're tom's brother. I..er... well haven't I met you before somewhere then?"
Him "Er...no...I...er..."
Me (embarrassed) "Oh, well sorry to bother you, er...how funny, ha ha ha!!"

Walking down the road about 5 minutes later I realised it was this guy from Eastenders

Oh the absolute horror and the shame. Blush Blush Blush

Deesus · 07/10/2011 17:24

Blurgh! Glad week from hell is over - how weird that we've all seemed to have a tough time of it at once!

Great link Moobee - thanks for that, really made me smile Smile (but do admit thinking a couple of them just might come in handy.....Blush

redheadbedhead · 07/10/2011 17:29

just spotted fish on the MN email talk roundup!

ParsleyLion1 · 07/10/2011 17:34

The guy I sit next to at work reckons the nose clearing one isn't quite as silly as it seems. Grin

Fryn · 07/10/2011 17:35

moobee and red - I almost had a Tena lady moment laughing about your befriending the rich and famous! Brilliant.

Oh God, now the embarrasing bit - I do actually have number 4!! Someone recommended it, I got it out of the box, looked at it, and put it straight back. What was I thinking?!

Have a good weekend everyone!

Moobee · 07/10/2011 18:03

Sorry about the extra rib pain redhead :) Paul Nicholls is very cute! Number 12 was my favourite too. I pointed it out to my husband who said:

"That reminds me of the teletubbies. ... pause ... But it does look practical..."

So Dessus, you're not the only one!

Fryn and Parsley - number 4 does look useful I guess, but the thought of it makes me want to throw up!

Wormshuffler · 07/10/2011 18:12

Mmmm Paul Nichols . I got my dh to buy us tickets to see him in a west end play for my 30th birthday. He is lush, the play however was sooooo boring!
My house is now filling up nicely with baby stuff. Exciting stuff! And I'm off to a nct sale tomorrow :)

Oeisha · 07/10/2011 18:20

Also had a good chuckle at the link. Thank you moobee.

No 4 can be very useful if you have a permanently snotty baby...I've see it used, 2 different families, though it DOES look freaky.

#1 - anyone that think this isn't highly weird is in themselves highly weird.
#2 - it's just weird. Don't have kids if this is a worry. Same with #6.
#12 - I'm sure I saw something like this on the X-Files...didn't the little one of the siamese twins go around murdering people!?
#10 - Loving the baby straight-jacket. They've obviously drugged that baby too. No baby looks that pleased to be having their nappy changed.

Work was, work. Though I did have a brainwave re: project for promotion. Manager also liked it, so yay! Should be easily done in the next couple of weeks in theory.

addictediam · 07/10/2011 18:47

I just wanted to point out the dummy thermometer has been a god send with dd

She's fine today BTW, so far she has destroyed the bookshelves, pulled the fireguard down on herself and smashed 2 glasses. So back to her normal self!

Anyone thought about starting a new thread?

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 07/10/2011 18:56

Worm - that wasn't 'Long Day's Journey Into Night' was it? I saw that (my cousin was in it) and got to go backstage and meet Charles Dance and Paul Nicholls.

It was a slightly tedious play though...

When does a thread run out?

addictediam · 07/10/2011 19:01

1000 posts so about 35 to go, so with the rate we chat here we'll need a new one by tomorrow morning! (Now I've said that your all going to go quiet and this thread will last for another 5 days!)

shonnomanom · 07/10/2011 19:11

Oh wow number 12 was unexpected! I have tried the thermometer dummy and it was really good. Suppose its only really any good if baby is a fan of the dummy

additcted Glad to hear DD is ok and causing havoc! Grin

Wormshuffler · 07/10/2011 19:46

Cakes, it was called festen, a dark tale of family secrets if I remember rightly through the swooning haze . You met him! Now that would have made it the best birthday ever!

redheadbedhead · 08/10/2011 07:57

ha ha am loving all the Paul Nicolls manlove going on here hee hee!! he's so good looking wonder what he's up to now...?

My ribs are just getting worse and worse - going a bit crazy!! bunked off teaching yesterday because i needed a rest, but it hasn't helped at all. Am thinking I might have something called costochondritis but i guess i should go to the doctor for confirmation before i start self medicating. Apparently acupuncture can help, if you're pregnant and therefore unable to take the anti-inflammatories which are what you need Sad

but on the other hand sometimes it just feels like a rib has popped out of place, in which case acupuncture is going to do f all!

all i know is it got a HELL of a lot worse when i sneezed yesterday, was quite scary actually because i was sure i heard something crack/pop..... so I'm carrying a tissue round at all times to try and avoid sneezing.

MISERABLE!!!!! Stupid expanding pregnant body!!!

fishandlilacs · 08/10/2011 08:08

hahha great list of things-I did buy the aspirator for dd1 though. and that pee bottle looks identical to the one I take with me to aquanatal class.

I'm chuffed to see myself on talk roundup-does this mean i'm royalty now :)

redheadbedhead · 08/10/2011 08:15

Queen Fish Smile

Deesus · 08/10/2011 08:46

Ahhh you can keep Paul Nicholls! I'd me more impressed meeting Charles Dance - have a weird crush on him. Sooo not my usual type. Just reckon he'd be really really dirty....hehehe Blush

fishandlilacs · 08/10/2011 08:48

hehehehe. Queen of the house of disarray more like.

I'm sorry to skim read everyone has been having ishoos this week. What a rotten week most of us have had.

I went to the physio about my sciatica yesterday, I got a maternity belt which I was expecting and hoping to get. What I didn't expect was to be told off for my handbag, it's too big, too heavy and I need to get a cross the body one. I have been given a lumbar support cushion for driving, That I am not allowed to lift ANYTHING unless it's something I can comfortably lift with one hand and I am now on chuffin crutches. I am not best impressed. I have to use them whenever I walk for more than 5-10 minutes. I was not expecting that. I did use my crutches yesterday while walking round the shopping park and my back is much better this morning so they do work. Look like an arse though and because I can obviously walk without them I also look like a total faker. I have to go back at 36 weeks if i'm still in pain to get a tens machine.

fishandlilacs · 08/10/2011 08:57

red is your rib pain up high-on one side and it's an achy burny sensation? I only ask because I suffered hugely with it when I was pregnant with dd-it was utter agony and I sympathise. I went to docs for it at the time and was told it was the point where my round ligament joins by body and the weight of the baby was pulling it down. That was the closest I got to a decent diagnosis, they didn't really know what it was either. I dont want to bother you either but my rib has never quite been the same since.

Luckily I have not had it this time.

I have been okayed to take ibuprofen by my gp for my back though so I don't see why you can't ask about that option.

redheadbedhead · 08/10/2011 09:17

fish thanks for the advice and so sorry you're having to hobble round on crutches!!!! you poor thing! Pregnancy really does do f-ing weird things to your body doesn't it? I never really expected it to be like this....

I was told not to take ibuprofen but might go back to a different doctor and see what they say. Am on paracetamol at the moment but it doesn't do much. don't want to hurt the piglet, but really, I am in so much pain I'm going to have to do something..

It's not really a burny pain, more like a stabby sharp pain every time i breathe in, and sometimes, like after I sneezed yesterday, a sharp stabby CONSTANT pain. Sad This morning I couldn't even walk around for half an hour, I was crouching over like some kind of stupid hunchback!

Oeisha · 08/10/2011 09:27

From what I remember of what they said in hospital, ibuprofen can be prescribed in 2nd trimester, but def. not in 1st or 3rd. They may also want to change your monitoring schedule if you're taking it. They're more likely to give you codeine based drugs than ibuprofen for pain management (this is what they wanted to do with me, even though codeine was essentially worse for my tummy...)
