Oh you brave ladies standing on the scales!!! I had to weigh in at the booking appointment but havent ventured near a set of scales since then.
mummyzoe every bump is different. There is an old wifes tale about being able to guess the gender purely by the bump i.e. if its all to the front its a girl or viceversa.
have you tried the Galaxy Moments? They are like buttons of chocolate yumyumyum!

trubble congrats on your baby boy!

My poor sis inlaw has been in labour since yesterday morning. Apparently she has a very lazy baby.

Dd has been at nursery 3 day now and has already caught a cold. How bad does she need to be before she should be kept at home? Its just a runny nose just now.

shonno if she is fine in herself i'd send her. The worst that can happen is that they call you because she's miserable and you bring her home.

addictediam · 04/09/2011 14:58

hey, not really had time to catch up (from the last couple of days, just noticed it was about to end so thought i'd inform you! Grin)

I think i have spd or pgp or whatever its called. i'm in so much pain when i try and move :( its a dull aching pain then suddenly it will be a shooting pain around my pelvis area. i was going to mention it to the mw when i had that appointment the other day (possibly week, ive lost all track of time! i'm not even sure how far along i am any more!) but as it wasnt bothering me, just thought it wsa a little niggly pain that had passed, but now its back with a vengance and i really dont want to bother them again, but as i'm going away on friday feel i may have to.

fish Shock i know theese things happen but really, if he knew the implications of what happens, why didnt they tell you before hand so you could have avoided the situation. and to say that is shocking beyond belief.

addictediam · 04/09/2011 15:05

i weighed myself this morning (fully clothed with shoes on, so i can kid myself about it being the shoes and clothes if the scales say something i dont like!) and i've put on just over a stone (so probably just under)

but with dd's pregnancy when i felt so sick all the time i put on 2 stone already by this time so every one is diffrent. dont worry so much about how much you put on, the amount they tell you is healthy (around 2 1/2 stone) is crap anyway because it doesnt account for water retention (if you have it) or bloating. So i would be more concerned about how much you weigh 8 weeks after the baby is born when you can do something about it. Smile

Oeisha · 04/09/2011 17:44

'ello all!

trubble Gz! Team blue! Grin

moobee et al. The weight thing's weird. I'd assumed I had a high-risk BMI (I think I'd be classified as 'overweight' BMI 26ish*), but it's not anywhere in my notes and no one's mentioned it to me...so I guess I',m not 'high risk'! Anyway, so far I've lost weight... 2-3lb... so if I minus baby+gubbins (I'm assuming 6-8lb) I'm about down 9lb. I am eating more healthily and exercising more, so I don't think MW is that worried (not seen her since 16wks mind you and they she mention anything about weight then). I have put 1-2lb on in last few weeks, but as I'm not still being sick frequently I just feel it's not right somehow that I've not put more on. Most people are "lucky you"! (Mum's telling me I shouldn't be putting on ANY weight as to avoid getting any 'fatter' - as DH said, bloody stupid attitude...I'm pg FFS...) But I'm slightly uneasy about it. Still fitting in pre-pg trousers despite having an obvious bump Confused. Prefering wearing mat trousers for comfiness on bump, but still going with bump band...

  • re: bmi. I'd take it all with a pinch of salt. Stood on some auto-calcualting scales once for someone's research at uni and came up as 'obese' even though I'd just had VERY bad food poisoning and had got down to 5st (from nearly 8 at height 5ft3). Don't think it takes into account large breasts/breast tissue (lost 2.5stone, but absolutely no bust at all, was still a GG). My GP at home was horrified to see how skinny I was and when I told him about the research project he said it wasn't all that uncommon...and no I blatantly didn't have a load of fat hiding on my liver (as suggested by researcher) as the weight loss I'd had would have gotten rid of it. Breast tissue was the only thing we could think of.

Whilst I'm on a rant roll, and sorry to 'contaminate' pg thread with other stuff BUT, if there are any pet owners/wildlife enthusiasts please consider:

Please sign and share this petition about adding bittering agents to antifreeze - helping to stop the deliberate and accidental poisoning of our beloved pets and wild animals...
Anti-freeze
Thank you!

redheadbedhead · 04/09/2011 17:56

I'm BMI of 26 too oiesha - I think the ideal is 25 isn't it? so we wouldn't be classified as too risky?

Moobee · 04/09/2011 19:04

Thanks everyone, it sounds like a 10lb gain so far is about average then.

Addicted - i hope your pgp improves - that sounds painful. :(

Fish - how nassively inappropriate that story was! I'd have been very cross.

Trubble - I got the same note on my scan notes, it was annoying!

Oeisha · 04/09/2011 19:38

Well, not sure of my BMI, but no, my MWs are the no-nonsense types and woudl have told me if they were worried. I told them to be as direct about any issues as they could be...and there haven't been any so far. Weren't even concerned with my history of depression when I explained the mechanisms I had in place.
A bit of digging and I found it! 27.6 BMI! (In the referal letter from MW to Stockport hosp.)
Would be interested to see what it is now...I'm so sceptical about BMI being a singular measure for 'health' I'm curious.

fishandlilacs · 04/09/2011 19:48

Phew, evening all. I am knackered. DD had a lovely party this afternoon but DH and are pooped. Can't complain though, only good friends were here and they all chipped in. apart from chocolate cripsy cake mashed into the carpets and bed upstairs there was very little damage! The cake went down a storm! DD just stared at and went WOW WOW WOW for ages before she had to be reminded to blow the candles out.

Just on the weight issue for all of you concerned about it, my lovely nhs pregnancy weight management consultant has advised me on 2 things. Women who were already obese/ overweight before becoming pregnant are less of a concern than normal weight range people putting on a lot of weight during pregnancy and no matter what your size before you were pregnant you are looking to gain no more than 1 and half stone throught your whole pregnancy, about 2-3lb a month max. This is what is considered the normal range.

trubble · 04/09/2011 19:51

Yep mines 27.7 which was why I was sightly annoyed - it's not that bad - although it might be a little worse after the roast beef I've just scoffed :). Oh well....

Still busy on house clear out duty. Bins are full but house still seems to be full of crap! We're doing a bit a day so hopefully by the tim bubs gets here we'll be done. It doesn't help that we've started buying things so any space gets snapped up before you know it.

addictediam · 04/09/2011 20:43

Fish, is that after you had baby or during pregnancy? With dd i put on aroun 4 stone! But lost 2 during birth! The mw really weren't concerned by it and all the way through just kept telling me it was water retention.

Oeisha · 04/09/2011 21:21

Here's an interesting mental image for you all.

20wk pg woman+belly sitting on ledge in bath with no bottom halves on, leaning into the bottom of the bath (so legs a-kibo to accomidate bump) holding a stuggling cat..the idiot covered himself in oil, including his cheeks/neck.... He was very upset and distressed HEOOOOWWWWLLL HEEEOOOWWWLLLL - similar whine when taking him to the vet...
..though is is currently wolfing back a tin of "Gourmet Gold" for being such a good boy (and not ripping my legs/DH's arms to pieces.

...ah the trials of pregnancy...and furry children...

trubble wish I had the energy to spring clean...nursery is currently a tip (DHs idea of tidying is just to stuff everything in drawers/an unused room).

Mum2be79 · 04/09/2011 21:40

Feeling insulted by a fellow Mumsnetter on another thread! (Probably the hormones but still insulted)

'Apparently' a woman returning from maternity leave won't have her mind completely on the job??? WTF???? Judging by her own standards maybe??? I know some people (if not most) will want to be with their child after so many months/years of being a STHM but I really get wound up when people start making generalised comments like that.

I love my job and though I will love my child more, I will be looking forward to returning to work in September 2012.

Oeisha · 04/09/2011 21:52

Nope, I'd be insulted too. As IF we lose the ability to multitask...

shonnomanom · 04/09/2011 21:53

Trubble your house sounds like mine at the moment. Everytime DP goes into the hall way he rips a section of the wall paper off. The hal is looking very interesting right now
Addicted you really should see the Doctor or the MW. Both Supa and myself have PGP and by golly it does hurt like hell at times. They will refer you to a physio that should make things a bit more comfortable for you. Have you tried paracetamol? Take your time and keep your knees together when getting in/out of car and bed. There is a SPD thread in the Pregancy section which has lots of good advice on it. Have a wee read, but definately see someone as it most surely will not get any better on its own.

I became an Aunty for the 4th time this afternoon.Grin Little baby Maria was born after a whopping 30hours of labour for her poor mummy. Very exciting times just now!!

Congrats shonnomanon! 30 hours .

supadupapupascupa · 04/09/2011 21:57

addicted yes please read the thread on PGP I had horrid pain and saw a physio who has eliminated the worst of it in one go!!!! Still get sore and tire easily/have to rest and am fragile, but the horrid sharp pain has gone.
Don't suffer sugar........and good luck!

fishandlilacs · 04/09/2011 22:15

addicted that is during pregnancy.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 04/09/2011 22:21

Just touching bar to say hello, a4 i'm actually in sweden atm! Went swimming in a lake in the middle of a forest today- incredible, but fucking cold! Loved it, wish we could do that stuff here. Will try and keep up with the thread, but don't talk too much! ;-)

GiraffeAHolic · 04/09/2011 23:06

Hi all, hugely busy day.

Nipped out to get our moses basket that had suddenly come back into stock, Ended up getting Moses basket and stand, lamp shade, wall hangings and ordering the cotbed, wardrobe and dresser with changing top Hmm productive day really!

And while I nipped out of the shop with Dd, dh bought me a gorgeous butterfly print Pink Lining changing bag Grin

Had a go with ICandy Peach, very impressed with folding mechanism but just sooo expensive and not keen on the colour options.

I'm laying in bed and I think CM-RD is practicing gymnastics, it's like there's a ferris wheel in my tummy Smile

Empathetic ouches to the fellow PGP sufferers, mind is alternating between back of legs and deep in my pelvis, also seems to be a lot worse when I've been driving Sad

ghosteditor · 05/09/2011 09:36

hey ladies, hope everyone's well today. DH and I have made quite a lot of progress in finishing the kitchen and preparing the baby's room (at least, a lot of the crap is out of there and the crib is set up!).

We've been scoping out prams for a week or so and I'm still fretting that we will buy the wrong thing. We decided that a small ish lightweight ish travel system will be the way to go at first, and then if we need to do more offroading we'll buy a sturdier three wheeler over summer when the baby is over 6 months and can sit up, hence won't need a carrycot/flat pram etc. That rules out the Baby Jogger City Mini which has THE WORLD'S MOST AMAZING FOLD but is pretty big and the carry cot is a sort of last minute add on (just attaches to the seat itself).

I love the Bee but it's quite expensive and doesn't have a carry cot, and we weren't planning on having a moses basket. Plus (and I think this was the model in the shop since everyone who owns the Bee has told me otherwise), the model in the shop was a nightmare to change the seat around and fold up. It's also quite low.

We may now be thinking of buying an iCandy cherry. It it's not as expensive as the Bee, even with a carry cot, and I could buy it at the lovely BumpStart Baby Shop in Milton Keynes (best service I've had by far, and they will knock 10% off if we buy all in one go or pay at least a 50% deposit, and they've promised to fight our corner with manufacturers in the event on any issues). DH likes it too.

I really need to find a way to do some extra cardio. I think I'm just not tired enough! If I wake up in the night, I tend to stay awake for hours (soooo tired this morning) which is just not me. I'm like a zombie.

ghosteditor · 05/09/2011 09:42

sounds awesome cakes!

giraffe good buying!

Just an update on the cat situation - DH went around to the neighbours' house and politely asked if our cat was there (she was). Fortunately it was the husband, not the wife, who answered the door. Husband said 'oh yes, she's always here, we have trouble getting rid of her. We're not feeding her though. Our cat just died' Hmm

The not feeding her part is a blatant lie but now I can put the DO NOT FEED collar on in good conscience, since it must be the 'other' (imaginary) neighbours who are giving her food. Hopefully it will be a stern reminder. I still can't believe that our next-door-but-one neighbours, who know the cat is ours and is well looked after, could be so f*cking selfish as to feed and encourage our cat to stay in their house. 'We have trouble getting rid of her' - yeah right, you didn't look like you'd just been chasing a cat around the living room all day...

Also, I've booked her in for her jabs tonight so if she's not home I can just turn up at their house with the cat box and ask them to hand her over (and then add the new collar and lock the cat flap when I get her home). She didn't actually materialise last night so I assume they didn't kick her out - the cheek...

Am still fuming but since all was very polite and civilised, DH says he'll go round in a week if she's still not coming home and ask if they need help blocking up their cat flap (since their cat is now deceased they don't need it, and shouldn't have food in the house).

Fryn · 05/09/2011 10:18

Good grief, would you lot stop talking long enough for me to catch up!

Had to go home on Friday feeling utter rubbish, slept most of the day, then thankfully DH came home on Saturday after a week away, so DD was handed over to him and I went back to bed - utter bliss! Although one of the first things he said was "gosh, you're looking much more barrell-like than last time". Ahh - how romantic.

trubble - congratulations on your blue bundle! You say that about those boys' names, but friends of ours have just named their son Sidney and oddly it's ok!

ghost - I should think BumpStart would fight your corner with the manufacturers, as if you buy your buggy from them, your contract is with them and it's up to them to sort out any issues with it - don't let them tell you you've got to send it back to the manufacturers, because they're lying! (sorry - my mum works for CAB, and this is about the only useful consumer tip that's stuck in my brain!) Hope the cat situation rectifies itself soon - at least it's currently polite!

makescakes - I'm so jealous! That sounds fabulous. I've only ever been for work and for a wedding, but the light does it for me every time. So clear, so beautiful, so makes me want to eat crayfish and drink vodka. Sigh.

shonno - congratulations! Not liking that 30 hours much. Was that her first baby?

Mum2be - I found I threw myself more into my job when I got back after DD1 because I wanted to prove myself. Admittedly, that only lasted a month or so, and only on days when I didn't have to stay at home when she had conjunctivitis/vomiting bug etc, but still!

Giraffe - good shopping! I still haven't even thought about what we need to get. Apparently my mum was put in a drawer after she was born (during the war admittedly) so the fact that I can reuse DD's Moses basket and crib is a step up from that I guess!

Nanny01 · 05/09/2011 11:34

ghosteditor - Our neighbors a lovely old couple are a bit over familiar with our ginger cat Marmalade. They let him in there house. I wouldn't do that with another persons cat. Where did yo get one of those collars as I think Marmalade could do with one. He is chipped though so know if anything happened I know they could trace us. Maybe you need to keep him in for a while it might help him become more attached and hand feeding him. marmalade comes home most days but normally goes out if the kids start to bother him.

Truble- congratulations on a boy. I am now going through all my ds2 stuff to keep but sadly thinking that dd's stuff won't be saved as they are 10 and 8. Will have to repaint ds2's room as he has scribbled over one of the walls.

Giraffe- where did you get all your baby stuff. I am not allowed to buy anything yet. The fact that there is only 3 pay packets till ds3 comes along hasn't occurred to him. DH does this at Christmas where as left to me I would start getting bits and pieces now. I think I will need crib sheets grow bags pushchair changing bag and clothes. As this is our 5th nobody will buy anything as us having a baby isn't a novelty. MIL- apparently said I was a fat slob within earshot of dd1 last week. No Presents for her then.
