I only did it a test this morning and have not even told my husband yet!

I too cannot stop eating. Also finding it much tougher this time to give up coffee. Think that has something to do with my monster child who just will not sleep, feeling bad though as apparently NHS has new guidelines saying we should have even less caffeine when pregnant. Wish I was one of those lucky people who go off coffee (and alcohol) when pregnant. ANyone else struggling with this?

Northey · 08/09/2011 12:44

Me! Just breathing in the hot and delicious steam from another cup Blush I've found that part of what I like is the ritual of making it, though, so I have been drinking slowly and then generally tipping away half of each cup, whereas before I'd have been trying to finish it all before it went cold.

Wrigglebum · 08/09/2011 15:42

myweeangel he was only 6lbs but still managed to get stuck and give me a third degree tear. This one's coming out of the sunroof Grin.
Btw I'm 5ft6 and DH is 6ft2, but the midwives said DS probably grew to make sure he could get out of the door so to speak. Any bigger and there's no way he would've got through my narrow pelvis.

vanillafudge · 08/09/2011 16:33

I'm expecting a May baby too! Will admit up front that I'm posting under an alias as I think that some people know my nickname in RL and don't want to let the world know just yet. Once I've got to the first scan and everyone knows, I'll add myself to the list in the proper place.

All going well bar slight nausea and some silly tiredness, it's all coming flooding back from the first time around. On the plus side, there seem to be some really nice maternity clothes around for this winter :-) Will definitely need some more matty jeans (the old ones got shredded) and some new matty PJs - couldn't stand the sight of the old ones by the end.

Anyone else having a quick clothes check? Look forward to hearing how everyone is getting on. :)

Quenelle · 08/09/2011 16:52

Hi vanilla you've just reminded me of my old maternity PJs, they were horrible. I think they went to a charity shop.

I think I'll get my old stuff out over the weekend and see what I've got. I thought DS would be my only so I got rid of a lot of stuff, equipment and clothes, but I kept some clothes to pass on to friends.

dreamingofanallotment · 08/09/2011 17:24

Ladies who have done all this before - when did you start needing to wear maternity clothes?! I nearly made myself late for work this morning as I couldn't find any work trousers that fitted - I seem to have a mega bloat on at the moment (lovely!)

I too am missing tea - I've been having one cup of proper stuff at work, and then drinking fruit tea at home...but it's not the same!

That Elle Macpherson bra looks lovely Yay4may - I'm now creating rather a large imaginary list of wants on the figleaves website!
Don't know what to suggest re. your friend, it's a tough one. Honesty is probably the best policy though, so as not to make her feel you've been leaving her in the dark.

myweeangel · 08/09/2011 17:33

Wrigglebum hope you didn't think I was being flippant. Not easy for anyone no matter what weight baby is! And suspect there's something in the theory that if baby is bigger, he or she is stronger to do a little more work themselves!

myweeangel · 08/09/2011 17:39

dreamingofanallotment - I'm having a slice of lemon in hot water at the minute. Then - esp at work - I just add cold water to the lemon as the day goes on. Enjoying it at the minute, finding it refreshing. Hate those "fruit" teas! Used to end up putting two or three teabags in one cup to get any taste out of it...!

DialMforMummy · 08/09/2011 17:41

I am not giving up coffee, I have a cup and a half every morning. It's one thing that I am looking forward to in the morning when I wake up! And anyway, it's fine in small quantities.
I must say that I just switched off cigs and booze just like that ( it doesn't mean I went "off" them though!)
In the spirit of moderation I have decided to allow myself one glass of wine per week Grin

notnowImreading · 08/09/2011 18:09

I've told my department at work - had to, really, because I was so distracted in our meeting that I needed a big diversion to make myself less ridiculous. We're all pretty close and I told them all about the miscarriage last time, so I think it's okay. I haven't told my mum yet though! Somehow feels less daunting to tell my work buddies than my parents.

lalabaloo · 08/09/2011 18:56

YayforMay There is no easy way to tell your friend, but you obviously care about her feelings so let her know that, I think it is better than keeping it a secret.

I felt a bit sick this morning and it has been on and off all day, i'm half dreading it but also quite excited as it is my first pregnancy! Weird!

vanillafudge · 08/09/2011 19:13

dreamingofanallotment I went into maternity jeans from about 13 weeks but I stayed in my normal tops until I was 17-18 weeks.

Hot Milk do a great range of feeding/maternity bras for those looking at bras. They are quite expensive but if you're thinking of b'feeding afterwards then you might be wearing them for many months to come yet :)

notnowImreading · 08/09/2011 20:35

Oh bum. I was told it was a penguin emoticon but it doesn't work. Just wanted to check.

Yay4may · 08/09/2011 20:46

I confess a great weakness for maternity clothes and have already bought a jacket, leggings and a fun top. Ridic as I've not even been to the GP (although my hot boobies confirm) and have lots of stuff in the storage! I didn't wear maternity until about 20 weeks last time. Am tall and so the bump didn't bump for awhile if you will. Everyone says second time is different so let's see.

I am going to try and go off coffee but will have one cup of tea each am. I was just trying to do a spot of interenet research on which herbals are ok and which not and there was a bunch of contridicting info. One even said no chamomile. How can that be?! V frustrating. I had lattes last time from the beginning but will try and be better this time. I had a weekly wine/champagne after I stopped the nausea last time (I did actually go 'off' it) and I am going to try and do 0 wine until second trimester this time aloth best laid plans...am at wedding next weekend and will be hard to avoid the champers.

For books I got The Second Baby Survival Guide: How to stay calm and enjoy life with a new baby and a toddler and Your 2nd Pregnancy: What to Expect This Time.

Hello Ladies. Am slightly worried as no real signs yet, other than a rather large spot which is persistently sitting on my cheekbone and a few twinges down below. Still think there may be a mistake. May have to get another test to check. Am eating like a horse but then again, I always have done!! Have cut down the tea to two mugs a day. Read somewhere that I should cut out the chocolate as it has too much caffeine in it - how can that be?

Wrigglebum · 08/09/2011 21:15

myweeangel don't worry no offence taken at all, my body is just not designed for childbirth (those childbearing hips mean nothing if you have a narrow pelvic arch apparently). My mum swears the smallest lady in her maternity ward gave birth to the biggest baby without any stitching after (or drugs)! Sometimes I think it's just down to luck of the draw Smile

I went into maternity jeans pretty quickly as I found the regular ones felt too tight on my stomach and made the morning sickness worse. Things like pjs I just wore low slung no problems. I didn't get too many maternity tops as I could wear loads of my normal ones right to the end, any long or stretchy tops were fine. I didn't have a very big bump at all, wondering what it'll be like this time!

lindsell · 08/09/2011 22:06

hi all, can I join?

I got my bfp today, first month of trying for number 2 (I have a 2.5 yo ds) so I'm a bit surprised but pleased Grin I'm due 10 May according to the MN calculator but my cycle is v irregular (only 1 AF in the last 6 years...) so who knows!

I like the sound of those books yay4may - I may have to invest Grin

Digggers · 09/09/2011 01:01

hello from me aswell.

Coincidently lindsell I got my bfp last night on my first month of trying for number two too and my ds is 2.5 years too! I'm apparently due on 14th May.

Most excited. Last time round I had a very difficult pregnancy emotionally with lots of difficult life situations to deal with. This time I'm newly wed and safe and happy and hope very much that this little person is a keeper

So surprised. Really didn't think it'd happen so quickly!

TooOldForThisLark · 09/09/2011 04:33

Welcome newcomers and congratulations!

I'm 7 days into "no caffeine" and still getting headaches. Also I am doing my motorbike test this month and have my second day of intensive training on Saturday - don't actually feel like that at all. And my twins are 3 on Sunday and I can't face decorating their cakes - I've gone and bought personalised cake toppers from ebay for them instead.

I'm pretty dubious about whether my friend inside will hang around - I do hope so - but I'm leaving the clothes buying for another month or 2!

Northey · 09/09/2011 06:26

You're up early, TOFTL. Though if you hbe twins perhaps it's not that surprising!

I am starting each day with a sleepy grope of my boobs to see if they are still reassuringly sore. And then half a cup of coffee Blush. Well done for managing to give it up entirely. The withdrawal headaches are awful but do go away quite soon, iirc.

TooOldForThisLark · 09/09/2011 07:46

Haha Northy it's the caffeine lack again as I am tired by 9pm but then wake up in the middle of the night. Having said that - it was one of the twins coughing that got me up! As for your coffee - good for you - I know guidelines say I can but I'm just being extremist (some may say stupid)!

TooOldForThisLark · 09/09/2011 07:47

oops NorthEy -doh!

Northey · 09/09/2011 07:58

No, you're right. Maybe I should too. I just like having something to dunk my morning chocolate biscuit in, and herbal tea would definitely not work! I think when I get to the end of this packet of coffee (in maybe two mornjng's time) I won't buy any more. Pleasingly, that should coincide with the end of the packet of biscuits, too!

Marmite123 · 09/09/2011 07:59

Hehe Northey - glad it's not just me feeling myself up. Sore boobs and spots so far, no real nausea, but I'm only 5+1.

I'm hitting the decaf coffee, seem to be just about fooling myself that it's the real deal. Or tea sometimes as way less caffeine than coffee.
