I only did it a test this morning and have not even told my husband yet!

HI Chipo and welcome. I had my first baby in a midwife led unit 16 months ago and it was fantastic. So little stressing, they just let you get on with it and its nice and relaxed afterwards as well. Had a waterbirth also and that was excellent (well as far as birth can be). I am quite keen on the idea of a homebirth this time but DH says no way, its too scary being so far from the hospital.
So sorry to hear more sad news on hear and hello all new people.

I am feeling very tired but pretty fine apart from that, actually quite worried a lot of the time that I am not pregnant at all.

MixedClassBaby · 07/10/2011 17:22

Hi Chipo. I had DD in a midwife led birthing centre 10 months ago and it was a very positive experience overall. It was a fair distance from home though which really mattered when I was sent home (2 cm dilated) only to go straight back when I got home to find I was 8cm and nearly ready to push. They were two very full-on car journeys! I wasn't able to have a water birth but the midwives (I had two!), were brilliant.

The support the following day was second to none. I had my own room and lots of help with breastfeeding. Unfortunately, I had to be transferred to hospital later that day (an issue with DD's blood which turned out to be fine), otherwise I would have stayed for as long as possible.

chipo · 07/10/2011 19:13

I'm just a little worried because the nearest hospital is about 20mins from the birthing centre. I had a fab 1st labour in hospital and couldn't have asked for a better experience had my own room and everything, so not sure what to do. DH wont even contemplate a home birth either.

Rhubarbgarden · 07/10/2011 23:18

Hi everyone, not been on for a while because I've been feeling so, so horrible. I'm sure the nausea is worse this time than with dd. For the past week there's just been no respite, despite me constantly keeping up the dry crackers. Yesterday was the pits, all I wanted to do was curl up in a ball all day. But of course dd had to be taken to Gymboree and then a playdate in the afternoon - there's no let up with a toddler! It's made me grumpy as hell and I completely fell out with my Dad after a series of 'are you sure you're doing the right thing', 'it's not compulsory to have two' type comments. So LittleSarah I know where you are coming from about your mother!

dreamingofanallotment · 08/10/2011 09:07

Hi all, I've just had a letter asking for a repeat urine sample (the docs had my first one on tues) and now I'm panicking as to why! Has anybody had to give a repeat sample before? I think I'm going to have to do another preg test today to reassure myself. So annoying that I get the letter on a Saturday so I can't phone them til Monday to find out why. Trying not to stress too much!

chocolatesparkle · 08/10/2011 09:53

We went for our early scan yesterday and it showed a little baby with a heart beat that exactly corresponded to my dates, making me 9 weeks today. In my opinion it was certainly £100 well spent. I had convinced myself that there would be nothing there as my symptoms had improved over the past week. Feel slightly guilty that the only thing I ever feel like is plain crisps at the moment, I'll try to eat more healthily but even the thought of proper meals make me feel more nauseous. Only a few more weeks of first trimester left!

LittleSarah · 08/10/2011 17:16

chocolate - glad to hear the scan went well, so nice to see!

dreaming - Try not to worry about the sample, I'm sure it is just a bugger up at their end, it is annoying to get letter at weekend though!

rhubarb - poor you having to deal with those comments, so not looking forward to them! Apparently my my mum is not as perceptive as she used to be, saw her last night and no sign of suspicion even though I felt so sick I only managed about two bites of dinner, was washed out and knackered!

Chipo - midwife-led centre sounds fab, I had both my kids at home so my care has always been midwife-led, and wonderful!

floydie - sounds like you will be fine! I know what you mean about researching, I always need to know that little bit more, I was thinking about training one day as a midwife and a midwife friend of mine recommended a great book for anyone thinking of training, maybe that would be up your street? ;-)

Hello to heidi and yorky and everyone else feeling rubbish! I also feel dreadful, and look it. If I have half an hour without feeling nauseous I treasure it!

Weather is mingin' up here (Scottish borders) so looking forward to a cosy night in front of the telly, first up Strictly!!

Yorky · 08/10/2011 18:27

ooh, littlesarah, what book did your friend recommend for midwife training? that's what I want to do too, when I've finished being the other side of the bed as it were! (and this will be our last one, 4th hb all being well)

Loving the happy scan stories, getting impatient for mine now, MIL has agreed to babysit for the 3DC so we don't have to take them with us [v scary thought!] trust us to get the Monday of half term Grin

NinkyNonker · 08/10/2011 18:58

I'm here! Looks like 4th May, no scan as yet. This'll be number 2 for us, dd is 14 months.

I'm having midwife led unit/care again for whoever was asking.

MixedClassBaby · 08/10/2011 19:59

Great to hear the good scan stories.

On a less positive note, anyone else with piles? I'm most alarmed - only 8 weeks(ish) pg and it's almost as bad as just after DD was born. God knows how much worse this will get! I'd better start investing in inflatable rings and ice packs Confused

DialMforMummy · 08/10/2011 20:27

Had scan today, all good and due date spot on. I am relieved for now but still feel a bit anxious as 2 of my close friends miscarried recently.
Piles are also in due to bad constipation (TMI, sorry).....
Dreaming I had to have a repeat once because they thought they saw sugar in my urine and in fact it was ok. Maybe they fucked up with your sample?

dreamingofanallotment · 09/10/2011 08:37

That's what I'm hoping DialM. Ah well, will just have to wait and see.
Constipation is one of those joys of pregnancy I never knew about...I've been mainlining apricot and raisins in a bid to sort myself out, but to no avail!
Congrats to all those with happy scan stories! I've been looking up local private scans as I'm not sure I can wait another 3 weeks until my 12 week scan. I need to know there's actually a baby in there!

LittleSarah · 09/10/2011 09:08

Yorky and anyone else who is is interested this is the midwifery book my friend recommended:

Becoming a Midwife

I've been thinking about midwifery for a while now but it is very competitive these days I hear so looking into doing the doula course first to bulk up application! (Apparently they like mature students though).

Dial - Glad to hear scan went well, still hard not worry I know!

Mixed - Sorry to hear about your piles, no advice I'm afraid, I hope they don't get too much worse.

DialMforMummy · 09/10/2011 09:15

Chipo with regards to MLU, I almost gave birth there on the Thursday (maternity ward full) but I was a false alarm and ended up going to maternity unit in hospital on the Saturday. To say this was a relief is an understatement. Baby turned out breeched and no one worked it out until I was in labour. He was also in distress and I had to get a CS real quick. I don't know what would have happened had I been in MLU.
I'd advise anyone who fancies a MLU or home birth to have a late scan (even if you have to pay for it) to check the position of the baby. Plenty people I know had breech babies that went unnoticed. I would have been sick with worry if I had to be transferred to hospital knowing that my baby was in distress.

Wrigglebum · 09/10/2011 19:56

Nice to catch up on news after a weekend away- went on a hen-do which was interesting sober! TBH I don't think people really noticed I wasn't drinking as they were all too drunk! I told my room mate and had to apologise for my terrible wind, the first night I was so bloated I had to let it out as it was agony Blush.

Luckily I haven't had constipation despite eating practically no veg. I think my fig roll and grape addictions help,

Heard this weekend that one friend is starting tests after one year of trying and one miscarriage, and another friend has just found their first round of ivf was unsuccessful. It's hard not to feel guilty that we have got pregnant twice very, very quickly, it just all seems such a lottery.

SESthebrave · 10/10/2011 09:29

Morning!

Quick post from my phone. First day back at work this morning after a week off and I feel rough. Really don't want to be here but have 2 performance reviews scheduled for a couple of my team and interviewing someone this afternoon.

Wrigglebum - hen do sounds good (even if sober for you!)
TTC is a real lottery and a rollercoaster. Don't feel bad for your good fortune. As someone who's had 3mc and taken 18mo to conceive, I was always envious of my friends who seemed to find it easy to conceive (don't think I'd be Hunan otherwise!) but I've always been genuinely happy for them too and enjoyed the new baby cuddles. After all, it's my baby I want, not theirs Grin

Chipo - because of my history, I couldn't have a homebirth or MW led care. I think DialM's advice is very sound though. Home births can be very positive (and I'd love one) but make sure you eliminate complications of breech/transverse!

Hello to everyone else. Sorry I'm not v good at looking back at previous posts and name-checking on my phone. Hope you're all doing ok though.

elizabethtailored · 10/10/2011 12:53

SESthebrave - poor you. Do you have a quiet room anywhere you can lie down in? My boss is on holiday today and am seriously considering crawling under his desk for a nap. Can't keep me eyes open!!

Hi ladies.. congrats on all the good scan news, and again just so sorry to hear of losses :( hope you're all coping ok I've been there too and it is horrible.
Still worried not all right with this one...think that worry never leaves you once you've mc'd. Only 2 weeks 2 days til my scan. Had nasty vomiting bug over weekend and was worried it was the start of pregnancy sickness but thankfully has cleared now, hopefully not to return!!

wriggle know just how you feel...have several friends who have been ttc for very long time and dreading telling them I'm pregnant esp as we weren't 'officially' trying (though I won't tell them that part Blush)

SES hope you can get through the day! I'm a SAHM and finding it hard enough not sure I could do work right now!!

I'm v much hoping for an MLU birth this time round...wasn't allowed last time due to various complications including going 17 days overdue :( we're v lucky the MLU is inside main hospital though so could go either way!

tostaky · 10/10/2011 17:09

Hi everybody!

Just got my appointment for scan (when ill be 13 weeks!!) and for booking in appointment, next week (I?ll be 9 weeks).
Im going to try and ask to have my scan a week early because I really wanted to ?come clean? at DS 3rd party, the week before and also I cant really hide that big belly of mine anymore?.!! DS1 this morning ?mummy? Why do you have a big belly? Me- mmh? no, no, I haven?t xx(friend who is 7 months pg)xx has a big belly but not me?.

On another note, im feeling better but but still have bouts of nausea and feeling tired all the time? and im absolutely useless at work? just hoping that the pay rises were agreed before mid-September?. Hmm

LadyMaybe · 11/10/2011 04:02

Hi all,
I've been lurkily lurking for aaages, but have decided it's time to be brave and come out of hiding. I'm currently somewhere between 10 1/2-11 weeks after 3 consecutive MCs trying to have our second. We have a lovely DS who is 3.5 and I had a mc before him as well so am no stranger to the anxiety of being pg after mc - looks like there are lots of other ladies on here who also have had that sad experience and are doing their best to stay calm and confident this time around Smile.
I've been under the care of a recurrent miscarriage clinic this time, and am on daily injections of clexane, as well as aspirin and progesterone supplements. Had several scans so far and am just counting down the days to the official dating/nuchal scan on the 20th.
I'd better dash and go pick up DS from his daycare. Will just add myself to stats:

Quenelle · 11/10/2011 14:08

Hi everyone. Glad some of you are feeling better. I'm not feeling so sick in the mornings now but the evenings are still a bit of a drag.

I booked myself a nuchal scan at BabyBond for Monday 24th Oct, the day before my 12 week scan. I'll get the results by the Wednesday so won't have to wait as long as for the NHS. And I've finally got my booking in appointment next Monday. Apparently it'll take 1.5 hours, not sure what they're going to do Hmm but I'll have to find someone to look after DS, he's a good boy but he's not going to sit quietly for that long!

Just had a look at my hospital website. They now have a midwife-led birthing unit but I don't know if I would be considered low risk. I'll be having consultant-led care because of the GD I had last time, and also because I'm an old bird. It's at the end of the delivery suite so not a huge problem if I had to be transferred. It looks nice, although that birthing chair...yikes!

Hi LadyMaybe congrats to you, it sounds like you have been through a lot to get to this point. I hope everything goes smoothly from now on.

And also congratulations NinkyNonker I've seen you around MN quite a lot.

MissingMalibu · 11/10/2011 21:11

Can't believe its been over a week since I last wrote and yet I have no idea where the time has gone. Everything just seems to be one nauseous blur at the moment.
Between work and studying for my honours in spare time Im tired anyhow, never mind adding in morning sickness which sees me dashing for bathroom at all hours at the moment. Least theres only 9 more sleeps till 12 week scan which will hopefully be reassurance that this is all for something. Feeling a bit in limbo; anybody else feeling that way? Everything points to pregnant, but you just dont believe it...
Much sympathy for all those suffering with the 'joyful' symptoms. Fingers crossed it cant be for much longer now.
Thoughts are with all in what seems to be such a trying time... and hats off to those who are doing it yet again! Even if I thought I could survive this again, Im not sure my husband could! Hes gone into panic mode already :(

LadyMaybe · 12/10/2011 03:33

Thanks Quenelle, so will the NHS not do your nuchal scan at the same time as the dating? Or was it just for the quicker results? Good idea to get someone to look after DS for the booking in, that is a long time to ask a little one to stay patient and quiet.
You never know about using the midwife-led birthing unit. I was considered high-risk for my pg with DS, but once I'd got through to 37weeks and everything was looking normal - no GD, not big for dates, normal presentation, no high BP etc etc, the consultant was happy enough to sign me off for MW-led delivery. Not that it turned out like that in the end, but I think they make a distinction between high-risk pregnancy, and high-risk birth IYSWIM.

Malibu commiserations for the nausea, mine is definitely easing now but still throwing up randomly and evenings and early mornings are a bit of struggle. What is your DH doing? It's a good thing it take a long time to bake a baby, gives everyone time to do a bit of a panic, then settle down (then panic again!) before actually having to deal with the reality.

Quenelle · 12/10/2011 10:10

LadyMaybe yes, it's the quicker results I want. My friend had her dating/nuchal scan at the same hospital a couple of weeks ago and a week ago she still hadn't had the result. She didn't seem too bothered about it, but she is much younger than me. Unfortunately I haven't told her I'm pg yet, so I couldn't interrogate her thoroughly about the hospital's procedure without raising suspicion.

I agree about the high-risk pregnancy/birth thing. Last time I ended up high risk because of GD but the consultant happily signed me off to have a waterbirth if I wanted, provided I wasn't induced. I'll discuss it with the midwife at my booking in appointment. By coincidence, this same midwife was the first one I saw in delivery suite when I was in labour last time.

Sorry you're still feeling so ill MissingMalibu. My nausea is definitely lessening a little, I don't feel so bad in the mornings now.

tostaky · 12/10/2011 10:31

Feeling REALLY sick today. I thought the nausea had gone, but oh no? it is here and im just struggling to get through the day. I nearly called in sick at work? and so tired again? gosh?. I have developed an obsession with clementines, it help with nausea a little bit but def not enough. I have changed my scan date and booking in appointment now to the 10th nov? cant wait!!!

Im due end of May but maybe people who are due at the beginning can already feel some movements??

Also, im not into astrology at all but my mum is and apparently Gemini is from 21st may and Taurus is before that. DP (who doesn?t care about astrology either) is adamant he doesn?t want a Gemini but a Taurus? so cue to planning lots of sex and pinapple from beginning of may?. Are Gemini that bad? Off to check on google which scientist or politician is Gemini!!!!
