Hi Lockets. I don't so much get tired in the evenings as suddenly find myself asleep! I'll be merrily watching a program and the next thing I know it's over and I've missed the whole thing.

Sorry Olivo, I meant to say that I'd heard Laxatives aren't safe in Pregnancy (I put are) But as I'm sure you'll do, check with a chemist cause there must be something. I've not had the guts (!) to try prunes yet, I've heard juice is ok. But I've upped my fruit intake (can't stand veg right now) and lot's of brown bread and porriage (with life giving pizza thrown in )

Maybe it's time we had a new thread to stop the vast scrolling down? When's a good time to start one? 800/900/1000 messages? Maybe once we're all past 12 weeks would be best though.

mojomummy · 23/01/2006 23:14

Hi Olivio, just read your feeling constipated. I suffered VERY badly in my last pregnancy (2 yrs ago) & wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Tips are - lactulose - can get it on perscription DEMAND IT !! Fibregel - also on perscription, again DEMAND IT !! use both for a couple of days to get your bowel moving ok, then have on standby.

I also recommend potatoes, carrots & apples, but they really won't do anything until the above are used.

If you strain you'll be piles which are just awful. I'm currently 'recovering' from a visit a week ago.

Also, if you are taking pregnacare, stop immediately & try something called Folic Plus. Which just has folic acid & calcium. I found the iron in pregnacare just too tough.

Hope that helps

Oh another thing for the bloating (feel like you want to break wind but can't ? deflatine is pretty good.

You don't want to start straining your bowel & ligaments 'cos it's a slippery slope to misery !!

(yes, I have my lactulose & fibergel on standby & my pile cream )

trix1 · 24/01/2006 11:04

Morning all,

I got lactulose from the chemist a few weeks ago and it worked.

I am really starting to feel much better but I am worried about that now

I am currently 10+6 (wayhay NBG)

I might see if I can get another scan this week. I must be driving my local hospital mad - but they have been very good - letting me come in almost every week for a scan

BigHotMama · 24/01/2006 11:19

Morning all, How is everybody today? I can totally agree with you Lockets on the tiredness, I am just about keeping my eyes open for Big Brother at the moment then I'm out of it for the rest of the night. Its also getting hard to drag myself out of bed in the mornings? Could just be the dark though! Olivo your the experienced one to ask about folic acid, as I'm just past my 12th week mark do you just stop taking the folic acid or should I start taking anything else?? I'm not experiencing constipation at moment as drinking loads of OJ and eating about 6 pieces of fruit a day.
Strike, have you got your scan sorted yet? My MW booked mine at my 6 week appointment, but then I was expecting to get some confirmation from the hospital and worried about that for a w few weeks, I'd give them a call and get it arranged asap and try not to let it worry you.
I have been experiencing the strangest dreams, anybody else?

katylou25 · 24/01/2006 11:31

Him BHM I'm also having very strange vivvid dreams involving me being part of scooby doos mystery hunting team WTF????? Did allt he way through with DS as well. Am still really suffering with the sickness eat breakfast each morning purely so I've got something to throw up or else I just heave all morning TMI i'm sure sorry!!! Am waiting for scan appt to come through MW said should have scan 1st week of Feb but haven't heard yet - congrats all those of you who made it to 12 weeks seems like a distant milestone to me still!

Strike1 · 24/01/2006 11:33

BHM, I haven't even seen a MW yet! The whole process goes through the hospital and they haven't sent me an appointment to meet a MW or have a scan. I don't want to be a pain, but I'd like some sort of offical appointment so I feel I'm in the system. I've phoned them once, maybe I should try again?

BigHotMama · 24/01/2006 12:03

Strike, I'd ring them again and just explain your bit worried as havent heard anything yet? Surely they can arrange it whilst your on the phone or at least sometime today? Good luck hun!
KL25 your dreams are as mad as mine then ha, I dreamt my husband was killing people and bringing their dead bodies home for us to bury in the garden but at my parnets house?? And the other night I dreamt I'd had my baby and it was suckling my breast all day long and it didnt even hurt? I found it really easy and couldnt get over why I'd been worrying about Breastfeeding? I havent dreamt of Scooby tho yet, there's still time though!

CHEEPS · 24/01/2006 12:37

Good Morning all!
I am still feeling horrible!! but no way as bad as before and i think its just the tiredness more than anything at the mo, oh and the fact that im hungry 24/7!!
When i feel better i am really worrying that something is wrong though but i have my 12 week scan on the 6th Feb, although i will be 13 by then!! i have already had one at 9wks though and everything was fine, so think i maybe just need to take a chill pill!?
Also can i just ask last night i had what felt like a stitch - but i havent been doing any running, thats for sure!! is this normal?
Also, i dont have a midwife app till the 27th - by which time i will be about 16 wks, should i request 1 sooner?
Thanks for listening!!

BigHotMama · 24/01/2006 13:21

Hi Cheeps, I really feel for you as I only felt sick until around midday and never actually threw up, this went around week 9 and I started feeling great but tired. My taste buds have come back too as I went off tea and bacon. Have you tried Ginger biccys? I used to munch one before getting out of bed and that seems to help get rid of nausea? If you tired get as much sleep as possible, i was dropping off during the evening news for half hour much to my hubby's amusement and felt better for it afterwards.
I'm not really sure what the norm is on your 1st MW appointment, as I went to my GP and they told me to book it straight away, then my MW booked my 12 week scan while I was there? 16 weeks does seem like a long wait though?

purpleturtle · 24/01/2006 13:42

Cheeps, as you've got a scan booked, I wouldnt have thought you'd have much need of a midwife before 16 weeks. Presumably that's the normal system where you are.

I hope to see a midwife in the not too distant future, because she'll book my scan for me - and I'll be 12 weeks at the weekend!

Arabica · 24/01/2006 13:46

Hi ladies. Just wanted to let you know that I am feeling MUCH better today after taking my homeopathic remedies. Best £15 I have spent this week (well, apart from my e-bay bargains that is)!
Love to all

mojomummy · 24/01/2006 13:58

Hi Ladies, anyone hada nuchal fold scan yet ?

paid £100 for mine yesterday & was pleased (or relieved) with the result which was;

1:250 for 36 yr

1:1305 for me when they checked the fluid & the nasal bone.

Won't be having the blood test now.

Nbg · 24/01/2006 14:51

Hi everyone.

Great news on the sickness Arabica!

CHEEPS, When I saw my midwife she said I have to make my next appt myself but I can't do it until I have my dating scan as I have to be over 15 weeks until I can see her again. So it might be quite the "norm" not seeing her till 16 weeks. It is frustrating though. I wish I could buy a Midwife and strap her to me so I could make sure everything was ok, all of the time!

11 weeks today Trix

I've had an Architect out today to discuss plans for an extension. As I mentioned further down, we're in a 2 bed new build atm but really don't want to move as we have a massive garden and the area is great.
However he reckons it's going to cost over 20k for the lot and when I say lot I mean a very basic 2 storey extension with very little interference with the rest of the build.
So gawd only knows what we're going to do now!

BigHotMama · 24/01/2006 16:29

Mojo, Is that the scan to test downs? If it is, I've decided not to have one as I couldnt face the thought of a needle going into my belly it scares the hell out of me. I'm just hoping and praying my baby will be healthy. (I dont mind having the blood tests though) Glad to hear your good news! I think your very brave

aprilgirl · 24/01/2006 16:41

just had scan got a super pic of little one although 'he/she' wouldnt look at the camera they really struggled to measure him cos the the tight ball he was resting in!! anyway im now 11+2 not 12+3 so little one is a week less than i thought and given a due date og 13 aug!!!had all tests done and am at low risk for everything so was pretty chuffed when i came out the room considering when i went in i thiught they were going to tell me it was one huge mistake n i'd made it all up

purpleturtle · 24/01/2006 16:45

Hey Aprilgirl, that's the same EDD as me! And my first baby is an April girl too . My date may well change when I get a scan though. I still feel like you about the making it up aspect.

aprilgirl · 24/01/2006 17:05

i was opast my self the night before the scan i didnt sleep i really thought they were going to tell me i'd dreamt the whole lot... so go to see him on the screen thou, it was amazing!!! so when is your scan purple turtle?

olivo · 24/01/2006 17:54

just a quick hello to everyone!

congrats on the scan Aprilgirl! thanks to everyone for their advice on constipation - will try all your tips as it doesnt look to be going anywhere! now also think i might have a UTI but dont know if i am imagining things!! Fortunately, doctors appt booked for Thursday so will go with a list!

Bighotmama, think you might have confused me with another poster with a similar name! I'm a novice on the whole folic acid thing . Hope someone can answer your question though. I'm taking pronatal and intend just to carry on with them throughout but I'm afraid I have no idea about specific vitamins etc (I'm just lazy! )

purpleturtle · 24/01/2006 18:47

Due to a fairly haphazard life of late, I haven't yet got a date for a scan. Saw doctor last week, who will have referred me to the midwife team, who have yet to contact me to arrange first visit at which they will book scan!

This is my 3rd baby, and the first two pregnancies were totally problem-free, so I have no reason to believe this one should be any different. Just a nagging doubt!

Folic acid: I will just stop taking it at some point over the next couple of weeks - not having a confirmed date I might want to play a bit safe about actually reaching 12 weeks (although tbh I didn't start taking it until I was over 6 weeks, anyway). Anyone with a slightly more conscientious approach, post now and shout me down. I don't hold myself up as a paragon of virtue - just one who's got away with it!

Arabica · 24/01/2006 19:15

Mojomummy, here's some info on tests

Arabica · 24/01/2006 19:17

Sorry, that link was meant for BigHotMama (and anyone else who wants to know more about antenatal tests) not mojomummy! Pregnancy brain

mojomummy · 24/01/2006 19:34

BigHotMama, I had the nuchal fold test, not the Amniocentesis which is the invasive needle in the bump test.

I think that is only required if your odds aren't very positive.

mojomummy · 24/01/2006 20:36

arabica, thanks for the link. The sonographer also measured baby's heartbeat at 165 bpm. Feel like i had a through scan
