Well, are we?

Has the sickness abated?
Are our locks shiny and luscious?
Are our nails long and strong?
Are we back on form in the 'ahem' bedroom?

No? Well we soon will be ladies it's The second Trimester*

Morning everyone...had my first baby dream last night...but it was weird! Dreamt that I could feel Bert's arms/legs etc through my tum - and when I found a hand he did the grabby-reflex thing and held my finger. Through my tum. It was a bit "Alien" actually. Slightly freaked out but also not, IYSWIM.
Good scan news for all you people who've had them. My 20week (pah) is booked for 11 October when I'll be nearly 22 weeks but apparently so long as it's done by 23 weeks it's ok. We've gone a bit public now but have requested no FB announcements as there are "friendlies" rather than "friends" on there who I'm not comfortable with telling yet until all the family etc know.
I'm not talking about the nausea in case it hears and comes back after an absence of about 5 days now...instead I am ravenously hungry and the "stop eating, Hermione, you are full" signal seems to have been disabled so I have had a couple of uncomfortable evenings. Would be nice to have a poo, as well (sorry - TMI). 12wkGP appointment on Thurs so might ask her for something to "assist" while I'm there - best to take advantage of free prescriptions, eh?!

Mellie is your Aunty related to my MIL? She's got all sorts of predictions and has had for about the last 6 months (e.g. "there is going to be a child but it's not been conceived yet" WTF?!?! Are you KIDDING ME???). Apparently hers is all crystals and psychicness though. :)

CoffeeOne · 16/08/2011 10:05

Had my scan yesterday. I'm probably the only person on here who didn't actually enjoy it :S The lady said 'ok I can see a heartbeat' and then didn't speak for 15 whole minutes! I couldn't even see the screen so all sorts were going through my head about why she wasn't talking. DP could see the screen but I couldn't read his face. Turns out everything is fine, she showed me the screen at the end and baby did a little wiggle so very relieved but still quite an unpleasant experience!

They've moved me forward a week too which is nice. 20 week scan booked for 30th September. Hope you're all doing well!

Very Envy at the weightloss on here, I'm putting everything I have lost over the last year back on.

Also cant get over there being some 16 weekers on here, thats very nearly almost half way through Grin.

Crazybit I have a rectocele as part of my prolapse and have been refered to a consultant at the end of the month for it and a few other things. As I was due to have it repaired before I fell pregnant the midwife was talking about a pessary to help while carrying baby, but I'm not sure how birth will work. Will let you know what he says if you haven't already spoken to your consultant by then.

Sugarkane · 16/08/2011 10:17

Aww Coffee that must have been terrible. I hate the start when they on't show the screen for a few minutes it feels like an eternity, so to make you lie there for 15 minutes not communicating or showing you what she is doing is really nasty.

CoffeeOne · 16/08/2011 10:38

Thanks Sugarkane I'm feeling better today and we're telling people now :)

I also can't believe some people are at 16 weeks, seems to be going fast now!

clarinsgirl · 16/08/2011 11:36

Not been here for a while (holidays, busy etc). Can't remember what I've said - quick update. Scan was great and confirmed my due date, also got low risk letter for Downs. I've had my booking in appt and MW is lovely. Got to have regular BP checks (doc says twice weekly Hmm) because I developed pre-eclampsia late in my last prg and had high BP a couple of years ago. Interestingly when I explained to surgery that I needed twice weekly checks they offered me an appointment on 26th August! So I've agreed to visit the MW weekly for BP checks.

I've been feeling baby move - just really faint flutters but definately there!

Also feeling really good, lots of energy and lovely long nails (only time ever apart from last pregnancy).

Loving the Trueblood fans. Had a mild panic when I heard talk of 'new' episodes as I thought Season 4 had started on FX. Got to wait until January (but at least I've got Dexter to keep me going). Alcide was great in S3 but Eric is still my favourite Wink.

I had a similar experience with dd, coffee, but this time the nice sonographer said 'I'm just going to take a few minutes to get my bearings, then I'll show you your baby'. Simple, really, but totally put me at ease...

Emz33 · 16/08/2011 12:07

Just had my scan. Cute little baby was fast asleep on it's tummy. Amazing to hear the heartbeat too! Put me forward by 8 days so now due on 16 feb!

pinkhollie · 16/08/2011 13:41

Just a quick question for everyone off to France for a week should I take my handheld notes with me?

I've had no problems at all with pregnancy and a bit worried about what would happen if I lost them!

phlossie · 16/08/2011 13:54

I'd say not to worry because a) it's only France and you'll get great healthcare if something does happen, plus people speak English well enough for there not to be any problems getting yourself understood, plus it's not far to come home. And b) you're not far enough into your pregnancy for anything to be an issue. I started carrying my notes with me after about 30 weeks, when labour was a possibility.

Have you got insurance and your EHIC? That's all you need imo.

phlossie · 16/08/2011 13:55

Oh, and I have actually lost 3kg since my booking! Probably because I'm not eating like a mentalist any more. I'm still more than a stone heavier than before I got pregnant, though.

phlossie · 16/08/2011 13:56

Me again. Also, don't you think it's weird that so many of us have been put forward a week-ish at our scans?

PamBeesly · 16/08/2011 14:24

Phlossie are you me? Within 4 weeks of finding out I was pregnant I was 9lbs up, makes no sense I couldn't even eat, survived on ryvita, cereal bars, fruit, anything that I would have usually scoffed with raw abandon made me sick just thinking of it. This weight went up to 1 stone and I still couldn't understand it. Recently I've been throwing up a lot at night, anything I manage to keep down during the day makes its way back up, I'm down 2kgs but I think I must have a serious case of water retention, I'm drinking 2l a day though :(
pinkhollie I'm not an expert but I do know in France the patient carries all their own notes. Make copies of them and bring the copies, leave the originals if that would put your mind at reat. Have a great time

louby86 · 16/08/2011 14:54

Hello everyone!

I've only just caught up with the thread! A bit late but loving all the true blood talk! Eric is my favourite, although I did prefer Bill in the first series!

phlossie I got put back at mine Sad

Back at work properly after 5 weeks off and they've now offered me a return to work plan as they don't want me working excessive hours while I get myself back on track! I'm a bit closer to home and I get 2 half days a week for the next couple of weeks. My area HR manager has been brilliant!

Have been looking into 4d scans this week, think we're going to try and book one for 26ish weeks! Next scan feels like ages away!

pinkhollie · 16/08/2011 16:47

Thanks Phlossie & Pam I'll make copies of my notes and take them with us - goodness knows why I didn't think of that baby brain I suppose! Grin

phlossie · 16/08/2011 18:12

I didn't think of copying them either!

claricestar · 16/08/2011 18:44

just a quick update. went to hospital today to discuss my previous post partum hemorrhage. have to be put on synto drip immediately after delivery. also had to make an appt for 41 weeks to discuss induction...because of previous rapid labour they have to be careful how they induce. hopefully it won't come to that!
apart from all that, all is well and coming to terms with this unplanned pregnancy....feel a lot happier now.

herecomesthsun · 16/08/2011 19:00

re feeling faint on trains, you can get a priority card which shows you are pregnant here - it is from Southern Trains but might work on other services! I thought it was a really good idea

Sugar80 · 16/08/2011 19:32

I'm in the weight loss club - around 6lbs. Don't really know why - think it's muscle wastage from not doing anything! I struggle to eat big meals at the moment, but am making up for it by grazing on crap constantly!!

Morning sickness is still here, and is becoming quite spectacular. I had to pull up outside my work this morning to be sick in a bush in front of loads of people walking in. Really nice.

Had my blood tests yesterday.. has anyone else decided against the downs syndrome tests? If I came back as high risk I wouldn't want the invasive tests because of the risk of miscarriage, so have just decided it's better not to know.

12+2 (think I'm gonna be the last to pop!)

EsmeWeatherwax · 16/08/2011 20:00

sugar80 I didn't have any down's testing done, they couldn't do a nuchal fold test at my scan cos of baby's position, and I've declined the blood tests too. Had them both in previous pg's but am just nopt so bothered this time, it's not a choice I want to be faced with really!

woowa · 16/08/2011 20:51

claricestar, i've got to have one of those too because of pph last time, which means no nice delivery in low risk suite with ensuite bathroom. When i told obs that water was my main pain relief last time, she looked somewhat sympathetic and said it was negotiable down the line. Obviously i don't want nother pph, but neither do i want an immensely painful birth because I can't get in water. Sort of hoping for the baby to come in 35 minutes, on the kitchen floor, with no pain, sort of labour :)

I'd take my notes everywhere. Which bits would you photocopy though? There's an awful lot of rubbish in there!

I had lost loads of weight by booking appointment because I just didn't feel like eating. Now i'm eating again i don't want to stand on scales in case it's all piled back on again!!

I'vealso noticed that lots of us are forward a week. I KNOW the hospital are wrong though. So, although i'm 16 weeks, i'[m actually 15! And I hope 16 weeks isn't half way through!!

Crazybit · 16/08/2011 20:53

well I went for my scan, all fine, got put forward 2 days which os impossible but ah well. DD was welcome. At booking in, MW said I'd be tested for something(can't remember exactly what, think downs?) on the scan as I am 29 but sonograph said not as I need to be 30..bit confused but then got caught up with everything else...They recomend taking a daily low dose asprin due to suspected pre eclampsia with my first pregnancy, also will have extra scans later on to ensure baby is growing well as dd1 was slightly small apparantly. Very strange as I had none of this with dd2. Oh and regarding my rectocele, they said normal vaginal delivery should be fine--oh and also had strep B with DD2 so need to have abs as soon as labour starts. Also had no bloods, weight or anything like that done, all a bit confusing really. At mw in Sept so guess I'll see how things go then, oh and 20 wk scan booked for 3rd Oct. They first said 5th but DD2 has her birthday then..don't want to give her reason to resent baby!

Crazybit · 16/08/2011 20:54

p.s 13+2!

notcitrus · 16/08/2011 21:12

I didn't have the Down's etc blood tests but had the scan - last time round it was too late by the time I found I was pregnant, and I was in two minds about it, but figured we'd get an indication of risk from the scan and if it looked high then MrNC and I could discuss further to confirm we could still deal - my feeling was I could cope better with a child with Downs than a potential miscarriage, ttc again, pregnancy etc.

Scan showed the lowest possible risk for my age (1 in 880) so we've left it. If the baby ends up with one of the fatal things that bloods would have indicated, then I guess it will have been wrong. :(

Starting to be less faint and so will probably have to return to work next week (mainly from home at least). Not at all enthusiastic!

I'm the same weight as before pregnancy, and oddly one pair of jeans still fits by going under the bump, but no other pre-preg clothes.

woowa · 16/08/2011 21:39

crazybit i was put on a low dose aspirin too. Obs said it helps healthy placenta growth, and it's placenta which regulates BP in pg. My kidneys would be badly affected by high BP (as well as baby being affected) which is why my obs particularly wanted me to take the aspirin. I basically refused, as I don't really like taking any med (even when not pg), but having headaches all weekend made me realise that high BP isnt something i want to dally with, so i've given in and am taking it. Haven't had BP checked yet, must go to doc tomorrow.

Just watched my sister's keeper. Lots of tears, but shocked how different the end was to the book. Book much better imo. But they always are!
