Aww phlossie that's a bummer!! Is there no way you can persuade your MW?!

Sorry for mega 3posts last night, phone issues!! Confused

Well I have had a wonderful sleep... On my own in a big fat bed Grin He was quiet getting ready for work this morn (usually he's an elephant!) But I feel a bit calmer. Talked it through with my friend, and her hubby is the same (they've no kids so not over pg issues, but in general!!) We concluded that our 2 blokes suffer from only child sydrome. Speak, and don't even think after!! This trait does only appear to be only child men though. My dad is the same!!

Saying that DP isn't an only child, but he's 2nd marriage child with massive age gap, so effectively only child Wink

Off out in a bit for toppings for pizzas!! Going to be doing home mades with his neice, who's due to pop her 3rd kiddy out in 4ish weeks!!! Will be picking her brain on classes while teaching her dough making!!

Hope were all heading towards a better day!! I know I will be!! Bring on the pizzas!!! Grin

littlemonkeybix · 16/09/2011 09:20

mellie that's awful!! Worst bit is the notarsed chavs!! Poor mil and poor doggy Sad

I always feel bad for the offending dogs too. They'll quite possibly be destroyed... When its the owners who need something doing to them!

Hope doggy's ok, and hope mil is successful catching the scum that let this happen!

QueenFee · 16/09/2011 09:28

Monkey, to be honest dh only took on board what I told him about the birth and not what he heard at classes (crap anyway) and he was the best birth partner I could of asked for. Men just do think differently. I find dropping snippets in every now and then better than a talk as such. I.e. what have you donr today? Hows sos and so. Oh I was thinking I won't be induced this time to avoid episio whst do you think (he grunts) ok. What do you want for dinner...
Hope he comes round as its what you want though.

Lifesaving course. I would ask for a second midwifes opinion they differ a lot!

Off to a antenatal course for breastfeeding (how to teach one) from the local lactation consultant. Should be interesting. Even better dh is having Ds2 so I have the day off!

InnocentRedhead · 16/09/2011 10:25

I wasn't keeping up on the thread particularly well when you were speaking about them. Should I have heard about them by now, really wanting to go with my DP. He is going to get just as involved as me as he has loads of questions! Monkey - you can borrow my DP for your classes if you like, he probably wants to go twice anyway!! Do the NHS classes feature anything about breastfeeding as comprehensively as I have I heard NCT classes do?

Mellie that is AWFUL - i hope they find the bastards that did it Angry and put them down instead of the dogs!!! My dog (before he was put down) was attacked by a dog in the area and they couldn't find the dog that did it let alone an owner. It put the fear of god into my dog whenever they walked past the same area again in the future!!

Phlossie you should ask for a doctors opinion or another midwives opinion, let them know you won't be able to work and that you know your limits - so if you start the course, but can't finish it because you don't feel physically capable etc. you know you have to go onto mat. leave because you wouldn't be able to do your job as effectively. There will be risk assessments in place for you, so I don't think there should be a huge problem. As you say; the water supports most of the weight - and they say if you have being doing something pre-PG such as exercise etc. you can carry on through PG. But you can't really take a sport or exercise up.

Pinkhollie I am wearing Mothercare black trouser for work, and they are FANTASTIC, nto a problem with them, i love how they are shaped and they flatter me so well! Don't know if they suit everyone's body shape (remember a conversation about mat. trousers earlier in the thread) but definitely worth a look at!

I'm having the same problems as a lot of people - i just cannot get comfortable! I stopped getting comfy on my back the other night, on my left I am never good! On my right hand side has just got awful, And provided baby is lying in my back - I can just about get away with lying on my front! It's strange when they hide away into my back, laid flat last night and looked non-PG!! Scan 2 week today :o so excited! Seeing midwife still in 6 days, and got dentist on monday :( Probably need a filling or something - BUT it's free so who cares :)

louby86 · 16/09/2011 10:51

phlossie I've been thinking about what you said in terms of your life saving course and it made me look into our policy at work. I'm not sure if it's company policy or if it's the actual law so I'd check with acas if you need to (hopefully you won't and a midwife will tell you you're ok to do it). Where I work if there is no reasonable adjustment we can make (and in this case it sounds like there isn't if you don't take the course) we have to suspend the employee on full pay on grounds of health and safety until 4 weeks before EDD when we would then transfer to maternity leave. Obviously maternity leave can start earlier if the employee requests it. It's classed as discrimination to make you take additional leave or sick that may result in loss of earnings to you. Hope that helps a bit

louby86 · 16/09/2011 10:54

mellie that's terrible! I hope the police find the people responsible and take their dogs off them.

innocent for nhs classes we're not allowed to book them in our area until after the 20 week scan. You can book nct ones whenever you like, you put in your EDD on the website and they bring the most suitable dates up for you. I'm hoping we can get booked in on the nct ones though because I'm starting to get a bit freaked out by BFing Blush

InnocentRedhead · 16/09/2011 11:39

Looked on NCT for the third time and FINALLY found the right course! I couldn't find it until now! Put in a submit for booking, what is the cost especially if on a low income?

phlossie Louby is right. If for health and safety reasons you cannot continue in your job, they have to suspend you on full pay (I think anyway). If this wasn't the case, when would you take your maternity leave?

deardear · 16/09/2011 12:59

phlossie hope you get work sorted out - i had to finish work at 29 weeks with my first as it made me ill and was strenuous. I have also had stomach muscle cramps and acheyness and exactly like you phobic about baby not moving and bump not being big enough. for the last two days i have been huge but today its moved back again and can get into my normal trousers! weird. had lots of little movements this morning which is reassuring but often find myself poking my tummy to see if that can instigate some somersaults lol

Ate well yesterday but not doing so well today. i feel better eating stuff like burger kings and lasagne (strange woman) but cant stomach cereals or normal food. am liking wraps atm - especially chicken ones.

Potol · 16/09/2011 13:47

Having a mini-irrational moment so let me vent please? As some of you may be aware my early antenatal care and scans were in a foreign country and DH wasn't around for them. My mother came with me for my first one, and my mother and MIL for my 2nd. They were both sooooo excited it was quite sweet. (It's not my mother's first grandchild but the first for my MIL- she was literally jumping up and down in this tiny room surrounded by equipment).Anyway she got on the phone and immediately told her son (i.e. DH) that he must must must go for the scans in the UK and how amazing it was. DH agreed. Note that DH is super excited about this pregnancy. And when I got my scan date for the 20w one, he was equally excited.

Till last evening when I reminded him, and he went, hmm, don't know, don't know if I can make it...let's see, don't think I can. So I said, what are you going to see this baby for the first time when it's born? And he said: oh that's a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. WTF?! His job is flexible enough for him to take time off and the hospital is a 15 min walk away. I think he's super scared about scans and what they might reveal (he's a doctor, works in a hospital and this makes it worse). But I DO NOT want to go for the anomaly scan by myself. I'll have a stern word with him over the weekend but I'm now feeling quite miffed.

phlossie · 16/09/2011 14:51

Of course you don't, potol. He really needs to face this fear! I have a couple of friends who are drs, one is a paediatric consultant, and she confessed that she couldn't believe we'd all had healthy babies in our antenatal group because she sees so many sick children, she believed that was the norm. IME doctors are worse worriers than anyone else! You have to emphasise that you need him and his support.

Thanks for all your advice about work. I managed to speak to a more sensible midwife who gave me the go ahead for the course, so it should be fine. It sparked a debate across the whole company - many of whom worked right up to their 9th month of pregnancy with no problems!

Felt a few more good kicks today, plus I managed to sleep through Tangled, so I'm feeling altogether more positive! Sometimes Disney DVDs make the best back-up childminders!

Xavielli · 16/09/2011 18:48

Mmm... Flynn Rider... Even cartoon men and doing it for me at the moment.

Mellie - I hate stories about dogs being attacked. It's so unfair on all parties and I believe there should be a license involved in pet ownership!!

Making a cake for my friends birthday on Sunday and I forgot to turn the oven on.... Can I blame preggo brain please?

runaroundstartsnow · 16/09/2011 19:37

Hi all, i had my 20 wk scan today, my little girl was fine, all the bits there and the right size for 21 wks!.I went alone as DH works away. Was measured at the scan and they put me forward again! I am having a giant baby Shock By my dates im 19±6.
Mellie sorry to hear about the dog, hope it recovers fully.
To everyone having leaks, i too am thinking i may have to invest in some Tena pads if i get any worse.

InnocentRedhead · 16/09/2011 19:44

Potol he needs to face his fear, especially with the scans. I think if you manage to get him along he will realise that it is a beautiful thing and often a great time to bond. To be honest; the highlight of my two scans so far was seeing the look on DPs face, rather than seeing our baby, if you get what I mean (which was great in itself). At first the look was just pure realisation, then pride, and then amazement at my baby and my body and then the love in his eyes. If you get what I mean, I just can't describe it though. He cannot miss the scan.

And that's great Phlossie!!

Baby still lying in my back, in fact my bump has pretty much disappeared, lifted my top up for my grandma today to show her my tummy and she was like 'i thought you were pregnant!'

melliebobs · 16/09/2011 20:05

Congrats runaround another pink in this thread

TheWicketKeeperIsDown · 16/09/2011 21:06

Potol, I agree with Phlossie - as a doctor myself, I can confirm that we are the worst worriers! Because it's what we see all day every day, the abnormal becomes normal to us. I have really struggled with the anxiety with this pregnancy, more so having miscarried this time. I've had a few pregnancy ultrasounds now (this time plus when was expecting DD) and am always completely amazed when things look ok!

Potol · 16/09/2011 21:13

Thanks for the support everyone. Update: at dinner tonight I said without preamble or even without mentioning what I was referring to: so Tuesday at 3 pm. Be there ok? And he nodded and said: ok, I'll be there, no problem.
Relief. Now hoping all is fine at the scan, fingers crossed. 19+2 today.

babycarmen · 16/09/2011 21:14

I so cant keep up with here :o

Im not long out of hospital, was in so much pain i phoned mw and she wanted me to go in to get checked for an infection.. which i dont have. I do however, have SPD and have to wear tubi-grip and a back brace and im getting physio. Had lots of "it will only get worse" comments from the midwives Hmm and will probably end up on crutches soon, which i imagine will be great fun when it gets icy. Siiiigh. I have also decided that im not going near a hospital unless i am dying, until its time to give birth. Sleeping in there is awful. So yeah, in agony and not very happy over here! :(

I have my 20 week scan on wednesday, cant wait :)

19+4

QueenFee · 16/09/2011 21:19

Are we updating the stats thread with boys and girls?

The course I went on today was brilliant. The lovely lady who ran it has managed to increase her areas bf initiation rates by 25% and continuation rates up by 50% at 8 weeks!
It was very interesting and I found out all sorts of things I didn't know. Apparently if you have a c-section you are always given anti-biotics. Formula contains cod sperm and skin to skin contact after birth helps a baby regulate it's body temperature and learn who mum is. If you are bottle feeding you should switch arms with each feed (as happens with bf) as it helps develop both sides of the babies brain. I could go on it was fascinating!

18+2 and 5 days till my next scan

QueenFee · 16/09/2011 21:26

baby carmen. I have been there :( SPD Is soo painfull. All the nhs physio will do is tell you to come back when you need crutches /wheelchair.
I really can't recommend enough going to see an osteopath. I spent months after my birth as well as during pregnancy visiting physios and they couldn't help me. A couple of visits to the osteopath and I could walk again :) It was worth every penny.

Crazybit · 16/09/2011 22:05

So sorry about the SPD BCarmen, I hope you find a way of easing it.

QueenFee-Code sperm?? How do they manage to cultivate that then?

Phlossie-Glad you sorted a note.

Nellie-HorrificAngry Hope your mil and dog recover :(

News from here-am anemic, was pretty sure i was but couldn't get in touch with mw all week, so ended up going into GPS to see if they had it on there system. Receptionist said, oooh yes, you need iron....have asked for liquid iron. Hope it doesn't go like the last time I was pregnant where they had me back to hospital every 2 weeks as my iron was so low, wanting to jab me etc...am not somking this time so hopefully my body can retain the iron better.

I'm still not feeling any kicks really...can feel it move to different positions but that's all. Think it's cos I've got a bit more padding now than I did with the other two. Also, been sooo dizzy today. Had to tell dd what she'd need to do if mummy fell on the floor and wouldn't wake up...she got quite worried and said but I'm a little girl, I can't do anything, bless, wish I'd not said anything!

Crazybit · 16/09/2011 22:07

PS Congratulations on a girly runaround.

Can we please start a new threasd, it's a nightmare getting on here!

Crazybit · 16/09/2011 22:08

cod* not code

melliebobs · 16/09/2011 22:19

This SPD thing sounds naaaaaaasty. I know what it is kinda but why do people get it? Are there any kind of risk factors? Or is it just pot luck if you get it or not?

2 weeks till my next scan. Can't wait. Starting to get anxious again. Still no movement. Must have a core of steel as no sign of a bump either. People keep saying it will literally appear over night. I'm dubious! Lol

17+5

QueenFee · 16/09/2011 22:41

Crazy well I only heard it today for the 1st time but a quick google tells me that it's dha's they need.
They can get it from fish sperm or fermented Algaes
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Docosahexaenoic_acid
Thats all the geeky stuff.

Crazybit · 16/09/2011 23:04

Yeah pot luck nellie explains here

Queen Fee-Very interesting, I'm really hoping not to ff this time at all, saves money etc but it depends on the support I get form OH I reckon, and I wont know till we get there.
