Well, are we?

Has the sickness abated?
Are our locks shiny and luscious?
Are our nails long and strong?
Are we back on form in the 'ahem' bedroom?

No? Well we soon will be ladies it's The second Trimester*

runaround I am going to speak to my MW on Weds about what classes of any kind are available in my area... the internet has been severely lacking on that front except for one aquanatal class I have found. If I don't get any joy from the MW, I am going to start Aqua ASAP Grin esp as I get time off work to attend!! YAY! GrinGrin

Hope we're all having a good day today

Having another girl, my 3rd bloody one Grin poor DH is over run with women!

Aww lovely news Bill ... looks like your DH will just have to cope Grin

melliebobs · 12/09/2011 12:11

congrats bill that's lovely news :)

ZhenXiang · 12/09/2011 12:43

Congratulations bill great news, maybe you will have to provide DH a 'man-cave' to escape to once they get older and the hormones start flying Grin

phlossie · 12/09/2011 13:00

Hurrah, Bill! Well done! Get them on your side, I say - it's nice to have a good, strong team. Though imagine the chaos when they're older and they're all hormonal. Yikes!

PDog I've been having braxton hicks too - quick tightenings at the very bottom of my bump. Didn't have them at all with DC1 but had them with DC2.

Got my hair cut and coloured today. £109 with a 25% discount! Owch. It feels lovely, though.

runaroundstartsnow in what way is the Gecko a pain in the arse? My friend is offering to sell me hers and then I'd sell my Quinny Buzz, but I don't want to buy it if it's rubbish!

I'm still deliberating about finding out the sex. I loved the surpise, and my gut instinct is to not find out, but on the other hand, this is my last baby and my other children want to find out, so why not? It's not going to spoil the joy of giving birth to him/her. I'm over-thinking this. I'm actually boring myself. I'm going to do something more interesting, like the laundry.

runaroundstartsnow · 12/09/2011 13:47

phlossie i love my Gecko but it comes in 2 pieces so you have to take it apart to put in the car/fold it.If you do a lot of walking it is fab and my last child adored it and slept wonderfully in it.If you need to fold your pram a lot as you live in a flat or constantly in and out of car something with a one hand fold is easier.
Bill congrats, i too am having another girl (my 4th) found out when i had my cvs...but girls are fab, apart from when they hit the teen years and the hormones start flying Wink

I've been considering not getting a pushchair and trying a sling to start with.

We have about 10 stairs up to our house and I have a chronic shoulder problem so I'm thinking that I will struggle with a pushchair - they all seem too heavy. It's a lot of money to spend if I find I can't manage.

Have any of you mums tried a sling?

phlossie · 12/09/2011 16:20

Yup - have a hug-a-bub and a wilkinet. Slings are lovely, especially for winter babies. I used mine loads, but needed a pushchair too. Go to an independent shop if you can and try out different ones to find one that spreads out the weight best. There are sling libraries around the country too. Doesn't someone on here know all about that? QueenFee? I might be making that up! There's definitely someone on MN who is an encyclopedia of slings.

FundusCrispyPancake · 12/09/2011 16:27

Thanks Phlossie.

But what on earth is a sling library? Confused

melliebobs · 12/09/2011 16:46

There's a sling library where I live fundus. My friend was telling me that they have every make n model of sling you could possibly imagine. You can borrow one for a few days/week to see how you get on before you commit to buying one. The one near me does regular coffee mornings/walks in the park

FundusCrispyPancake · 12/09/2011 16:58

I will see if there is one in my area melliebobs

Trouble is I don't have a baby to put in one yet!

They might object if I practice using the dog!

littlemonkeybix · 12/09/2011 17:13

Ooooh - just internetted for a sling library, and there's one 15 mins away from me starting up in October Grin

I may have to have a lookysee!!

melliebobs · 12/09/2011 17:16

I've not really looked into it. But my friend didn't bother with prams for her 2 and is very pro slings. I see the advantages and will get one for practical things like nipping to the corner shop etc but I'll look closer to the time.

In other news I have a very scary Milka addiction. God damn morrisons for having it on offer for 54p!!!!!!!!!! Argh

Kayano · 12/09/2011 17:17

Went back to work. My boss was like 'This is your third instance of sick... We won't be taking any action.. This time'

I was just thinking - 'damn right you wont! My sick note specifically says pregnancy related!'

Angry stupid man

I also couldn't really help gettig mumps either last November eye roll

QueenFee · 12/09/2011 17:18

Yes I run the flintshire sling meet. Fundus whereabouts are you and I can find out if there is one locally?
I usually recommend a stretchy wrap such a moby (or the prettied close - now called caboo). I started with a ring sling but use woven wraps or mei tais all the time now. To be honest if you can get the hang of a woven they last longer (I can still carry my 5 yr old) are more versatile come in prettier colours and are much more supportive.
I learnt most of what I know from you tube as my nearest meet was miles away. (natural mamas forum also has lots of info but not sure i'm supposed to say that on here :o)
I would also say slings are easier to use second hand in the same way as an old pair of jeans are comfier.
Ask away!

FundusCrispyPancake · 12/09/2011 17:42

I am in Bristol QueenFee.

I like the looks of the Moby but if I'm going to get DH to do his share I might need something a bit less earth mother (fine by me :)). He would probably prefer one of the BabyBjorn type carriers, bit more 'manly' Hmm.

Thought a mei tai might be a good compromise.

FundusCrispyPancake · 12/09/2011 17:47

kayano your boss sounds like a dick.

I'm pretty sure they can't discipline you for being ill when you have a doctors note.

Hope you are feeling better now.

louby86 · 12/09/2011 18:02

They can discipline you when you have a doctors note but they can't discipline you for pregnancy related because it's classed as discrimination. I second the comment from Fundus Kayano your boss is a dick!!!

Sugarkane · 12/09/2011 18:05

QueenFee what would you recommend for me im larger than average about an 18-20 so need something that will go around me, I also suffer from spd for a few months after birth so would need something easy on the back, oh an im not sure if you can but would like to be able to breastfeed on the move with it. Have always wanted to use a sling but theres so much choice ive kind of got scared but it all.

QueenFee · 12/09/2011 18:22

Most men seem to prefer ssc's which are the same as mai tais but with buckles. Brand names such as Ergo and Patapum Babyhawk oh snap.
A good website is www.slingguide.co.uk

As for spd slings are great. I have it and found that wearing a sling round the house so no hip carries etc stopped me making it worse. Mobys are really long way so would be fine. Wovens come in different lengths. 4.6m is a good starter size or 5.1m if your a bit fluffier :)

I'm sure there is a bristol meet will check for you. Sigarkane where are you?

QueenFee · 12/09/2011 18:25

Fundus would your dog mind?! Grin I'm Bristol too, so I might see you at the sling meet.

I knew QueenFee would sort you out. Have that, baby brain!

phlossie · 12/09/2011 18:59

Blimey. You can do a course to become a Baby Wearing Consultant. www.trageschule.co.uk/
