Well, are we?

Has the sickness abated?
Are our locks shiny and luscious?
Are our nails long and strong?
Are we back on form in the 'ahem' bedroom?

No? Well we soon will be ladies it's The second Trimester*

Hello all

I'm not frisky or glowing - more like shattered and sick! Had an eventful week, DH not well and ended up in hospital Sad. He is home now but very tired and not able to do much. I've been very worried and have struggled to sleep, which has made the sickness much worse.

Some good news though - had my scan today. Little bubs was asleep by the looks of things. Midwife jabbed the device thingy into my belly a few times to wake him up! Got a good result for the nuchal but have to wait for bloods to get final risk.

hermione the midwife took my bloods after the scan and sent everything off together. If it comes back as high risk, they will call tomorrow otherwise I get letter.

My due date is more or less what I thought so they have adjusted it again, due 21st Feb now.

Rollersara and Melliebobs I wrote our maternity policy at work so let me know if you need a hand working it all out Grin.

Keeping fingers crossed for less nausea all round.

thanks PDog - put my mind at ease :) Nice scan news for you, too! Poor DH though - hope all's well soon...

Emz33 · 08/08/2011 21:42

Hello all, marking my spot here from crazy London. What's going on out there?!
Only a week left til my scan - can't wait.

woowa · 08/08/2011 21:47

Welcome enraha, glad you've had a positive scan! I don't think cured meat is off the menu though, i've not seen it on any lists. You can also eat smoked salmon :) something else that people often avoid. If it's cured it's safe! (as long as you don't leave it lying around too much i guess).

My plan for today was to clean, spotlessly, 5 rooms. I have managed one. So, not bad going, just means I have to do the other 4 in about 2 hours tomorrow morning! Visitors. Worst thing was finding a dead mouse under the sofa, very glad i'm past the point where grim things make me retch! We have cats, so i know who the culprit is.

Am also realising how much I hate maternity jeans. hate hate hate. But i'm so big compared to last pg! It's nice and reassuring, but how much bigger will be be this time??!

babycarmen that pushchair does look a lot like the m'care ones. It's about time manufacturers started making them with cots that convert to seats as it save SO much money, and attic space, and the world's resources!! Which is good. Sorry you're feeling so pants, btw. Hope it ends soon.

hermione, i haven't been asked to make an apt with GP, it's probably your PCT. Have you seen your GP at all since being pg? I'm sure if there was anything toworry about they would tell you, they know mums-to-be worry about everything.

Took a urine sample to hosp today (again) and nurse asked if I had follwed the instructions. Has anyone else been taught to wee? Apparently you have to get it midway through the wee. Isn't it hard enough just to get any wee at all in those pots?!

ENough rambling

Hello everyone. I watched big babies too. I smoked with my last two (11 & 3) Have managed to give up this time, but am thinking this one may be a bit bigger. Not too much hopefully. I have also had a little bounce on a trampoline, not too much as pelvic floor isn't what it uaed to be anyway.

I really really want pate but have resisted so far, runny eggs also, been quite good except for a bit of fizzy wine now and then.

Has anyone else had a huge tummy for ages and then it has deflated?? Mine has today, hoping it's nothing to worry about.

Had bad news here, OHs Aunty thought she was about a week behind me, had her scan and no hb for her little baby :( She wont speak to anyone apparantly..I want to text her to tell her IO'm sorry and thinking of her but mil thinks it's not a good idea. Feel very bad for her.:(

madeindevon2 · 08/08/2011 21:51

Scan today :-) very naughty baby wouldn't keep still and made it hard to get the measurements!! Think it was about 45 mins in the end!!! Anyway my aged-based risk would have been 1:137 but after bloods and all other markers it's 1:2700.
We r v pleased. Frisky little one... Hope doesn't keep moving like that when he gets bigger or I'm in for a fun time! Grin
Told ds tonight and he's delighted. He cant wait to tell all his friends and tomorrow he's going to make baby a bed out of paper at nursery!!

Woowa-I can never wee in the pots either, I got very funny looks when I asked for a cup to pee in to pour it into the bottle, I just camnot aim!

woowa · 08/08/2011 21:55

Does anyone else have a cat who is following them closely due to attraction to pregnancy hormones? I don't know whether it is cute or disgusting. Mine nibbles my feet. YUK.

Oh, advice for first-timers, i know it's august, but you may not want to do christmas shopping in December. I started today (i wasn't planning on it but found playmobile bargains in TKMaxx!). Perhaps I should...no, it's gone, whatever I was going to say. Ah, pregnancy.

Crazybit · 08/08/2011 22:07

Great about the scan madeinD, cute that ds is making a baby bed :)
My cat isn't really any different, she's always soppy anyway, a horse bit me on the arm at the farm we visited yesterday though if that counts?? Grin

woowa · 08/08/2011 22:38

crazybit, think the horse was after your hormones? Nice.

Right, must switch the internet off and go to sleep.

herecomesthsun · 09/08/2011 07:32

Hermione my bloods were taken at the same hospital visit as the scan, but I was given the forms for this in advance by my midwife. However, this may well vary widely from area to area, I would def check with your midwife. HTH.

Sugar80 · 09/08/2011 07:33

Scan tomorrow! Please god let everything be okay....

Told my boss yesterday, mainly because there's loads of planning and strategy stuff going on at work which affects my role. He was rubbish. Didn't even manage a congratulations. Just told me I need to think about what I want to do from now until Feb, and advised me basically to sell as much as I can and he'll make sure I get my bonus "because you'll need all the money you can get". And he needs to meet his targets. Totally underwhelmed.

No reaction from my animals (dogs and horse) to the hormones. I keep waiting for them to start acting weird, but they're just carrying on as normal!

TheWicketKeeperIsDown · 09/08/2011 07:35

Woowa, cured meat is on the list of naughty foods, I'm afraid. Curing means it's not raw, but won't kill toxoplasmosis, salmonella or listeria.

Sick of sick here. Threw up breakfast and lunch. Sad

Hope all you London types are ok - v scary stuff at the moment.

Xavielli · 09/08/2011 07:43

My bloods were taken straight after my scan too (came back with 1 in 100000 risk, I'll take those odds)

There are a couple of scheduled gp appointments in pg, in my experience they are a complete waste of time. In my last pg I asked the mw why they do it, I can't remember her exact answer but it was something to do with quotas.

phlossie · 09/08/2011 09:07

You made me laugh about your cat, woowa. And about your mad clean - I've been doing the same, cleaning frantically for visitors - it's pretty much the only time I clean. At least I didn't find any dead rodents!

Right, maternity jeans. They are rubbish. I'm currently wearing some from Mothercare. I'm tall like you, so they're too short, but they're skinny, so rolled up they look fine. I also got some from Topshop which are long enough (just), but also a bit big at the moment. It's really tricky. I think I had some good ones from Jo Jo Maman Bebe last time too.

We got some baby guinea pigs yesterday! They're very sweet! My DS got all soppy and wanted the 'blonde' one which he called Sophie 'the loveliest girls name I know'. He adores her - and he's usually only impressed by animals that can savagely maul other animals or run really fast.

About Christmas shopping - you're right! And thank-you because I'd forgotten. My DS is February baby, and I was in no place for Christmas shopping by December.

lilyrose123 · 09/08/2011 12:32

I posted on the old thread LOL
hope everyone ok today
baby carmen how are you now? I feel for you I was unable to function a few weeks ago and was so fed up, slight relief from symptoms now, fingers crossed it carries on that way
i was about to look up acupuncture for my sickness if it didnt settle?

signed up for hypnobirthing, having early session on thursday after scan to try and relax me as already feeling anxious after a not so easy labour and birth with DD
so having this one off early session and cd to take home before starting proper course at 20-25 weeks, anyone had any experience with this?

lilyrose123 · 09/08/2011 12:33

sorry 12+0

notcitrus · 09/08/2011 14:31

ah, hello again!
I didn't watch the prog on Britains Biggest Babies - as they run in my dad's family. I've seen the news clippings congratulating my gran and her sister on the largest babies in the county (15lb) and my dad was about 14lb.
Apparently birth wasn't a problem as it's head size that's the issue and the rest of a heavy baby is a doddle.

But I was very relieved when I kept being told ds was 'very average' (he was, too)

I've got the rest of this week signed off and am a bit better today, as in managed an internet shop and a bath, but I don't see me managing work next week. Legs are getting worse too - will see what the physio does on Thurs. Apart from poke joints where I'd prefer she didn't...

Feel better now we've officially told everyone, though turned out both nursery and the neighbours had already guessed.

currybaby · 09/08/2011 16:33

ooo i wish i'd watched britain's biggest babies. oh no notcitrus my mil keeps saying how she feels for me because my oh and all his family have big heads (they do!) Smile

great odds xavielli thats the lowest i've seen fantastic.

this is the first day i haven't had any nausea...fingers crossed i might be coming out of it woo hoo. hanging in there for people still feeling ill and hope it gets better!

Feeling much better today, absolutely starving.. think my body is trying to catch up on the food its missed! And not been sick today which is great.

Booked a 4d and sexing scan for 1st november (26+1) as our hospital wont tell you the sex so we thought it would be nice. Its the day after dds birthday which is nice (yes shes a halloween baby :/)

Rollersara · 09/08/2011 18:53

phlossie, we have guinea pigs, they are great pets! We've just got a new baby rat too, some practice for next year (not!).

Anyway, just back from the scan, one wriggly baby present and correct! And been brought forward, now 13+4!

Xavielli · 09/08/2011 19:34

babycarmen DS2 was due on Halloween last year, I was quite pleased he arrived on 29th! Glad to hear you're feeling a bit better.

currybaby I missed britains biggest babies too but watched it on iplayer, it really was fascinating.

Getting quite annoyed by my sneezing fits now, I always get them early pregnancy. Sadly after dc3 my pelvic floor isn't quite what it was so many a sneezy dash to the loo is occurring!

woowa · 09/08/2011 19:41

Oh well wicketkeeper, ta for the correction, i'll keep scoffing the cured meats though. the risk is pretty low. If you can eat cured fish, why not cured meats? What's the diff? I think cats are a bigger risk for toxoplasmosis (and lambs!), but there's no avoiding them. How dull to be pregnant :)

DD has just pulled down her blackout blind. She's obviously bored in bed. What on earth can i do to get her to calm down and sleep? HELP! I was in bed at 7 due to dreadful night's sleep last night (couldn't possible be due to the large bag of maltesers I ate in bed, could it?). But i can't sleep til DD does.

Realised I've forgotten to tell someone struggling to conceive about this pg, and another friend has told her. Now feel bad (i don't see much of the struggling mum), because having had IVF twice, i know how rubbish it is for other people to be pregnant, and to feel like they might be avoiding you because of it. ak. Need to get in touch and sort it out i think.

Anyone a techie? my laptop is plugged in and not charging, just running straight off the mains. I promise it IS plugged in, i have shut down and restart. What's the matter with it?

Glad everyone's scans going well still and no more bus leavers.

hermionejgranger · 09/08/2011 19:54

Scan went ok today - one very wriggly baby waving at us, smiling at us and going for a high five! Nuchal fold measurement was 2.0 - no idea what that means. might ask Dr Google although not sure whether that's a good idea or not! Scan dates make me 12+4 so dd of 17 Feb but that doesn't match up with DTD and ovulation so I think I'll just stay on the 20th seat if that's ok with everyone? It's only an estimate anyway, right, and bublet will come when ready?!

Oh - and they did the blood test at the hospital straight away, and the 12wk GP appointment is just that - a 12wk antenatal appointment with the GP, apparently! Fair enough...will book that tomorrow!

Hope nobody is in a ropey position with all the rioting going on and that everyone is safe x

woowa · 09/08/2011 19:57

xavielli - i sneezed a lot today (i sneeze when i've eaten too much!), and boy did it go right to my pelvic floor too - glad i wasn't in public, the way i clutched at my bits!! I'll be careful now when I sneeze.

sorry if tmi, has anyone else swollen up down there? I'm not all the time, just occasionally. Wondering why it's happening, but it's motivated me to do pelvic floor exercises in case it's the bottom falling out of my world!

Oh no, the cat's back...
