Has the sickness abated?
Are our locks shiny and luscious?
Are our nails long and strong?
Are we back on form in the 'ahem' bedroom?

No? Well we soon will be ladies it's The second Trimester*

zhen got to say I'm 16+1 today and I've done a proper 9-5 at work today (recently I've been going in late or finishing early) I walked the dog for half hr and made tea and haven't collapsed of exhaustion. In fact I feel pretty good. But it's just the first day I've felt like this. Just waiting for the frisky bit to kick in. That's driving me nuts! Bet dh is just feeling like a sperm donar!

woowa · 05/09/2011 20:24

I'm not exhausted anymore either! And people at church yesterday told me I was blooming and glowing. Phew, glad that bit's over with. Now for a happy happy middle trimester before hitting the pits again in november :-) I have go so much done in the last couple of days, which is just as well as I have a LOT to do this week. eek!

Only thing wrong is hip and pervis pain. I really need to go and do some exercise and try to strengthen my muscles. Annoyingly, I can't get to either of the local aquanatal classes. Does anyone know if an ordinary aquafit class would be appropriate for someone to take up during pregnancy? Does taking DD to waterbabies class count as good exercise?

Baby wriggling :) :) :) :) Always so reassuring.

Anyway, all of you who are a few weeks behind, it really DOES get better soon. Keep going a little bit longer.

DH has seen a couple of interesting jobs to apply for this week which is great. I get really carried away though and start imagining myself living there before he's even written the application. For those of you who have forgotten, his current job ends in May and we have to move out of the tied house then, so he really needs to find one! who knows where DC2 will be born? (well, someone does but He won't necessarily say at the moment!)

woowa · 05/09/2011 20:25

oh, i'm 17 +5, so Zhen you might have another couple of weeks to wait. It does seem to have been later with DC2 for me too, probably because DC1 exhausts us so much!

melliebobs · 05/09/2011 20:47

woowa normal aqua will be fine. Infact where I work they do aqua natal and it looks RUBBISH. They spend most of their time chatting, the midwife is always late n I bet u get more of a workout just getting changes before and after!

At my gym they even do aqua Zumba!

currybaby · 05/09/2011 21:01

thanks queenfee for the bra fitting advice. the bra does seem a bit wide not sure the fitting was right after all. was really useful i'm gonna check for next time. at the moment i'm just so glad to have to rid of that tight underwire!

welcome to the newcomers onto the bus. I'm still feeling tired sometimes - if I have a day when I overdo it a bit.

Soothe · 05/09/2011 21:04

I feel pretty good too and the frisky bit has been upon me for a while!!
Zhen - i was with you on the february thread but have moved over (ish) too as now due 29th.

Told my oldest two children tonight (!) and they seemed surprisingly delighted which was kind of unexpected - one of them will be 18 a few months after this one makes its appearance and the other one will be 20!!

woowa · 05/09/2011 21:13

soothe, I have a friend with 5 DCs, aged, 21, 20, 19, 12 and 22 months :) Big gaps sound fun. They'll be great older DCs!!

thanks mellie. I might ring up then and ask if they'll allow it! Just a bit more fun than swimming up and down. MOst of the aquanatal i did with DD was a bit pants, but occasionally this mad welsh MW would be doing it and we ACHED afterwards! Because it was a proper workout, which is what I need!

Trying to find some maternity clothes on line, and came across over the bump knickers. I can't imagine in a million years that would be comfy - anyone want to correct me? I just wear my usual m&s black pants all the way through, does anyone really need maternity ones? Am going to treat myself to new ones after the post-birth bleeding stops!

Soothe · 05/09/2011 21:21

woowa - wow she sounds similar - i too have 4 others ones - this one will be no.7 hopefully!

woowa · 05/09/2011 21:32

oh my goodness soothe. You're clearly an awesome mummy! Well done.

Soothe · 05/09/2011 21:33

Thanks woowa but really not - just love it!

currybaby · 05/09/2011 21:34

wow soothe you must be a wealth of pregnancy knowledge :-)

Soothe · 05/09/2011 21:40

Yes curry i probably am!!! RUBBISH at the birth bit Confused but prety au fait with the rest Wink

Gooseysgirl · 05/09/2011 21:41

Any other first-timers considering NCT ante-natal classes? I made a provisional booking and then the email arrived with the bill... £289 Shock I could NOT believe it!!!! (And that didn't even include the membership) After discussion with DH we decided that we'll cancel the NCT booking and will go for NHS classes as an alternative and I'm going to use the money for ante-natal yoga classes instead. Maybe it's because we live in London they are so expensive...

I had a rotten headache today, took a couple of paracetamol this afternoon but the headache came back again by teatime... what I wouldn't give to be able to take a couple of nurofen plus!!! Made do with a cold gel pack in the end as didn't want to take anymore paracetamol. Had to spend a lot of time in front of computer at work today so that might have been the cause.... which means I should probably get off the computer at home now!!!!

15 wks

woowa · 05/09/2011 21:42

I'd LOVE 7 children, but this will be our last unless the 4 frozen embryos work. The hospital wouldn't have saved them but we didn't want to bin them without giving them a chance. So we'll give them a go after DC2 is born (not immediately!) but have been advised it is unlikely they'll survive :(. I pray for them regularly though!

Soothe · 05/09/2011 21:46

ah woowa... that is sad. Why won't they survive - i thought some just stayed frozen until the parents say not to anymore?

Kayano · 05/09/2011 22:32

This is my first baby - do they do ante natal classes on NHS for first timers or in general? I work but reading the earlier post about the cost Sad I don't think I'll be able to afford to go.

I'm so scared as there are no babies in te family and I need all the help I can get! Lol

ZhenXiang · 05/09/2011 22:36

It is good to hear that you are feeling good now mellie and woowa, gives me hope yet :)

Soothe - my hat off to you! To still feel frisky on #7 wow :) My SIL has 5 and a large age gap between oldest who is 22 and youngest who is 18 months. In fact her eldest has just had a baby so she is a granny now too and loving it :)

Woowa - that is sad about the embryos, I hope they will make it.

Gooseygirl - I have been getting lots of recurring headaches too, I think it is tiredness in my case. I hope you feel better soon.

Potol · 05/09/2011 23:50

I paid up for the NCT antenatal class, v v v reluctantly. (289 and again in London for 20 hours). Friends recommended it esp for the breastfeeding bit and actually I had a refund for something for 100 quid so felt only slightly less guilty about the money. But still winced visibly when I opened my bank statement this morning. Have to say I've looked around for antenatal pilates/yoga classes and all the London ones seem to charge between 12-15 quid an hour which is quite a bit...and I just can't bring myself to pay for those. Hoping that the nearly new sales that the NCT does will help to combat the costs though...

Rollersara · 06/09/2011 03:28

It's not as expensive outsite London, but it's still pricy, about £180 here. Midwife recommended them though as she said NHS ones have been cut back so they have to cram everything into 3 hours. Although that could just be our Trust!

hermionejgranger · 06/09/2011 05:03

Hi everyone and welcome to the new people...just been catching up on happenings since I last posted.

Got 16 week MW appointment tomorrow (well today, now, actually). Nausea has passed and although I'm full of cold (would kill for a lemsip) and feeling absolutely massive, by and large I'm back to feeling reasonably human!
Huuuuge appetite for some reason - but in a grazing kind of way rather than just eating big meals which make me uncomfortable.
We signed up for NCT very early on and it seems that we are relatively cheap here - £154 for 15.5 hours. The people who recommended it (er....almost EVERYONE!) said that it's fantastic for networking but one person said that the NHS ones tell you the truth about childbirth, whereas the NCT ones can make it sound like a walk in the park and that if you want any form of pain relief other then gas & air you are a failure. Of course I've not been yet so can't comment on how true that is, and the person who told me might be paranoid, so I guess I'll just wait and see! My MW said I don't get the NHS ones since I'm booked on NCT - but I think I'll push a bit and see if I can squiggle onto them anyway - what harm can that do??
Hope everyone's well and happy - sounds like some are not having the most fun ever so you have my thoughts!
Time for a steaming over the kettle methinks and then FGS hermione, go to flippin' sleep!!! :)

Xavielli · 06/09/2011 05:16

Soothe! 7 kids!! People think I'm brave/crazy for being on number 4! It's probably a good job DP has had the snip as I'd keep going forever!

Woowa - fingers crossed for your embryos!

Just a note on the ante natal classes, whilst I'm sure they are really useful and informative they are not really a necessity. I was 19 when I had my first, I was the youngest in my family and I got along just fine without classes. There is plenty of information online/in books if you can't afford the nct course (although I've heard the social aspects are good) or don't get a place on the nhs it's not the end of the world.

I've got my urge back!! The urge to clean that is (the other never went away) it's so nice to come downstairs to a clean kitchen (especially) as it was really starting to get me down. DP took over cleaning duties but isn't quite as thorough as me.

I'm 17+6 and still quite tired but it's not crippling anymore, in the 1st trimester; I used to do the school run and have to lay on the sofa until lunch.

melliebobs · 06/09/2011 10:18

kayano i'm a first timer and i've been sent the brochure for anti natal classes on the NHS obviously different trusts will offer different stuff but where i live i'm booked onto a 5 hour saturday session which covers pain relief etc etc. It's also done as 2 3hr sessions but they are during the day and dh can't get time off. I'm also booked onto the breastfeeding class and booked onto the tour of the 2 hospitals labour wards cos i'm still yet to decide where i'm having this. On top of what i've registered for there was a 'fit for labour' class, a class for mums to be that have allready had kids but want a refresher or top up their knowledge and there's a class for asian mums to be too.

It may be my niavity but i recond i could manage with out them, but it would just be nice to meet some people all due the same time as me etc

Kayano · 06/09/2011 13:15

Thanks mellie x

Going to midwife appointment in an hour so will ask about all my options.

PDog · 06/09/2011 14:06

Been lurking but not posted for awhile.

On the issue of classes - I did both nct and nhs. Both were good and quite informative. The problem with the nhs one was it was massive so there wasn't time for questions really and breastfeeding was skipped over.

The nct class was much smaller and some of us still meet up regularly so good for networking. We did a lot more group work and practiced different positions for the birth. It was a lot more indepth and gave us a really good idea of what to expect. The teacher didn't seem that keen on consultant led maternity wards but all forms of pain relief were discussed in detail. The thing I found missing from both classes was how to cope with the baby Grin but I guess that is why they are called antenatal classes.

The nct bf class was good but could have been better. I would advise reading the breast and bottle feeding board on here if you are thinking of bf. If I had been more prepared for the realities I would have saved myself a lot of angst. Not trying to put anyone off, far from it. Bf is the easiest and most convenient thing once established.

phlossie · 06/09/2011 14:14

woowa - Aquacise classes will be fine - they're usually full of older ladies anyway! And Water Babies classes are great exercise. I teach 16 classes a week, and that's how I keep fit!

melliebobs I'd like to find a class for 2nd, 3rd etc timers for exactly the same reasons. I'll only have my DD at home for 2 1/2 days a week for 6 months before she starts school, so it would be good to have people with babies to meet up with. Though there are usually good post-natal groups for that too.

I'm still feeling irrationally paranoid about this pregnancy going wrong. It doesn't help when someone tells you about their stillbirth (she didn't know I was pregnant). I've had two healthy babies and feel like I've used up my luck. I dreamed last night that I woke up with a completely flat stomach!

It's eight years ago today that I married the boy next door! DH is taking me out for a nice meal tonight.
