Hello, not sure if there's a similar thread already but just thought I'd create somewhere for nayone else expecting in April 2012?

I actually conceived about 3wks ago but I think this counts as week 5? Just staring to get symptoms - headaches, little stirrings of nausea, getting tired and grumpier than usual lol.

A little bit concerned because I have a LOT of work on from now until October and maybe beyond - and I think I'm just going to want to sleep and puke through it all - hell! :( d'oh.

I know what you mean Saj. I really want ice lollies now! What are everyone's lollies of choice?

kat2504 · 15/09/2011 14:40

I have to eat like crazy in the morning and at lunchtime. In the evening it is not quite the same and am back to bowls of soup and light stuff.
Ice lollies? No. Much too cold. Tis cheese that I crave!

Saj30 · 15/09/2011 14:55

tuna and mayo... i could quite happily eat buckets of the stuff.... kat2504 I find its the same with me, can't really stand much in the evening, but that could be all the eating catching up with me

LaTristesse · 15/09/2011 17:54

Ok so my mum scared the crap out of me today by saying you shouldn't eat potatoes that have started to sprout, ie pick the eyes out, if you're pregnant. She doesn't know yet that I am, it just came up in conversation about me nit having anywhere decent to store spuds in any volume... Anyway, she said it was something about an increased risk of spina bifida. Does anyone know anything about this? Or is it just one if those naff old wives tales?

kat2504 · 15/09/2011 18:20

No idea. Off to google...

kat2504 · 15/09/2011 18:31

potatoes which have gone green under the peel and started to sprout contain some toxin called alpha solanine which has a minute possibility of possibly not being so good for the baby.
I'd chuck them out if they are green and/or visibly have sprouts growing from the eyes. Otherwise should be fine.

LaTristesse · 15/09/2011 20:37

Oh balls... I'm always eating sprouted ones, I just pick the eyes out. They only last a day or so at my place otherwise. I don't think they're green though. Hope I haven't done any damage... Something else to worry about for the 7 months! Thanks for looking it up Kat, I'll lay off them from now!

SurprisEs · 15/09/2011 20:44

Hello everyone :)
On the subject of cravings: this pregnancy has been terrible, I mean, last tome I had a tendency to eat certain things but I didn't crave anything. About an hour ago I made DH go to the local shop and buy ONE carrot as the craving for raw carrots was driving me nuts!

So, today my ex-boss was supposed to pay me all money owed and give me my leaving letter. I got there for 11:30 and at 14:30 was told the money and letter weren't going to be available until tomorrow! I'm really getting stressed with this guy! They sacked me but seem to love having me around...

mumofwilliam · 15/09/2011 21:37

supermary i think in terms of the birth you have to do what you feel happy with and in alot of cases what will be will be! Personally i am a wimp and went for all types of drugs i could get my hands on! (figure only real time i can!) Liked pethidine and thought epidural was best thing ever. But hated gas as made me feel sick and dizzy - but its all individual. Am definately going for the epidural again but asking earlier - had to wait 4 hours for it last time as was a sun and noone around to do it!!

Think might have to go find ice-lolly now as all this talk makes me want it. Can't stop eating chocolate...

Gave in with the maternity clothes very upsetting- but was given a load by a friend.

Bought cheap ones from H&M and New Look all do good ones last time!

SurprisEs · 15/09/2011 21:59

I hated gas and air as it made me vomit A LOT. Pethidine is another thing I won't have again as I went loony and out of control. Scary now I think about it, and the pain didn't easy. Hoping for a water home birth this time but not sure if it will be feasible. Next best thing would be an epidural, keeping my mind open and will take if need to but I hope not as the thought of not feeling my legs freaks me out! Can't have an epidural with a home birth though. We'll see what time brings my way!

Saj30 · 16/09/2011 08:53

Good Morning everyone :)
Has anyone tried pregnancy yoga? Any good?

kat2504 · 16/09/2011 09:02

Yoga? I'd have to get off the couch for that. I was told to take it easy and all that [lazy cow emoticon]

When/if I get past 12 weeks I intend to take up aquafit or aquanatal or some such exercise. I've never tried any sort of yoga though.

Saj30 · 16/09/2011 09:19

oooh I'm going for aquanatal classes also but was talking to a physio yesterday and he was saying that yoga is especially beneficial for stretching muscles for labour...

SurprisEs · 16/09/2011 09:23

I like the sound of aquanatal but as much as I believe yoga is benificial I really don't think I could do it. I'm too clumsy!

Morning all!

thepuddingchef · 16/09/2011 09:58

Morning all,
I am feeling a bit better now...no sickness which although is nice I want it back so that I know all is ok .....am panicking now something is wrong.
Midwife finally called after I chased it up, apparently no one from my doc's rang to inform them I was pregnant. Booking in app on Monday.
I need to ask a question, I am in two minds as to have an early scan, it's £99 and where as I can afford it just, it would mean I have to be careful for the rest of the month, keep shopping bill down etc.......do you think it's worth it?? I don't think I will get a scan for another 3/4 weeks otherwise. I can't decide.........

digitalgirl · 16/09/2011 10:03

I did yoga in my pg with ds - was very good preparing me physically and mentally. We learnt breathing exercises that really helped get me through the early contractions. The other thing it did, which I would take pains to avoid this time, was exacerbate my pgp/spd. We did a lot of pelvic stretches which I wouldn't do now as I know it would make things worse for me - my pelvic muscles don't need stretching!

I tried aquanatal last time - enjoyed the exercise but couldn't handle the smell of the pool even at 16 weeks, so never went back. I may try it again if I get further on in this pg - maybe wait till 20 weeks.

Re: pain relief in labour - I had g&a for the first few hours, which took the edge off but my adrenaline was running so high that it really didn't affect my mind at all. Once I'd given birth and was offered the g&a while they stitched me up I was off my trolley on just a few breaths!
I had pethidine when the contractions started getting really painful but all it did was knock me out between contractions - which may have been a good thing for everyone else in the room but I'm not sure I liked feeling so drowsy.

Have graduates to the elastic band extension on my jeans. I had a loose dress on yesterday and it was so comfy not having a waist band! Might go find another few more today while ds is in pre-school! My first day off with him in preschool and I have a few hours to myself.

AprilAl · 16/09/2011 10:43

Morning all

thepuddingchef I had a private scan when my symptoms all seemed to disappear from one day to the next. It was a bit of a stretch financially here too, but IMO was absolutely worth it. I'd have driven myself mad with worry in the 5 week wait for my NHS scan and it was so reassuring to see the heartbeat. Well worth the money for the peace of mind I thought.

threecurrantbuns · 16/09/2011 11:28

Hi all never be able to read this thread through but can I join? Im expecting dc4 due on the 24th.

So far feeling pretty awful and sorry for myself be good to c how others are getting on :)

SurprisEs · 16/09/2011 11:30

If you can afford the early scan then take it. I wish I could afford it as the sound of that heart beat is so reassuring. It's not worth being stressed so get it done :)

Bearcrumble · 16/09/2011 12:32

My cravings have mostly been pretty healthy (sorry) - avocados, mozzarella, grilled chicken in lemon/garlic/yogurt marinade and lots of veg. I am really really picky about what I want to eat at the moment though, it has to be the thing that I'm fancying - I couldn't countanence eating anything else. Means a lot of trips to sainsbury's.

I've totally gone off coffee - I bought some decaf when I found out but I don't even want that.

I have a bit of a quandry re the 12 week scan. DH will be in Brazil on a work trip. I could either get my mum to look after DS and go alone or a friend has volunteered to look after DS and I could take my mum. I don't know if being alone would be better or worse than having her with me. She's quite a loud person and she winds me up quite a bit. I can imagine her chatting away to the sonographer and really embarrassing me (for an example of what she is like, I took her to baby clinic with me once and she took DS's red book up to the desk and loudly told the HV's aide that even though DS and I had different surnames I was in fact married to the father - just in case they'd been wondering, like. All at incredible volume.) What I'd really like is to take a female friend with me but they all have babies or day jobs. Maybe I should just go alone. It will be stressful becasue with DS I had low PAPP-A which is a marker for pre-eclampsia and IUGR which I went on to develop and if the levels are low again, especially if they are lower than last time I'm going to really freak out and will probably need some support.

SurprisEs Sorry your ex-boss continues to dick you around.

Re pregnancy yoga I paid for a course and could only be arsed to go once. Don't do that.

Re deliveries, I have only experienced an elective caesarian and it was great. Very calm, pain free and recovered quickly. It hurt for about 2 days, then it was just sore.

Whatever sort of delivery you have I recommend taking stool softeners beforehand - there's nothing nastier than feeling a hard poo work its way around your insides when they're all sore from giving birth. Sorry, I seem to be fixating on poo/constipation. Please don't think of me as 'that poo lady'.

Cutelittlecatlover · 16/09/2011 13:27

Grin at poo lady!

Hi everyone, glad to hear everyones ok and I'm not the only one who can't stop eating! I'm 11 weeks today but I look like I have a 20 week bump (except that it wobbles). I asked the mw about it when I saw her and she said its normal in women who have already had a baby, something to do with slack muscles Blush . I haven't told anyone yet but its getting quite difficult to hide.

For the people who are considering an early scan, on ebay you can hire a doppler for a month for £9.99. I've done that as I couldn't afford to pay for a scan and although it takes a while to find the hb its given me the reassurance at a fraction of the price.

threecurrantbuns · 16/09/2011 16:16

I feel you pain re an early bump I've always been late to show over 5months with my first couldn't tell I Was preg at 20week scan she was a tiny baby though.

This time I'm 9 weeks and bloody huge already feel such a mess :(

I'm sure people are staring saying bloody hell she has put on some weight

CODwidow · 16/09/2011 16:54

Can I join?? Got a bfp 3 days ago but my af is very irregular and can't remember for the life of me when it was, I think I'm probably only 4+ weeks so early days Smile

CODwidow · 16/09/2011 16:56

this'll be dc5, anyone else with a larger family??? SmileSmile

kat2504 · 16/09/2011 17:41

COD widow congrats on your bfp! If you are right about your dates then you'll probably be due in the middle of May though rather than April. Will you get an early dating scan?
