Hello, not sure if there's a similar thread already but just thought I'd create somewhere for nayone else expecting in April 2012?

I actually conceived about 3wks ago but I think this counts as week 5? Just staring to get symptoms - headaches, little stirrings of nausea, getting tired and grumpier than usual lol.

A little bit concerned because I have a LOT of work on from now until October and maybe beyond - and I think I'm just going to want to sleep and puke through it all - hell! :( d'oh.

Glad your scan went well.

So is it another name for White blood cells?

Bearcrumble · 14/09/2011 16:28

They are a particular type of white blood cell.

Bearcrumble · 14/09/2011 16:28

(and thanks both!)

SurprisEs · 14/09/2011 16:37

I have been craving ice lollies all day! Refuse to go out and buy one as I can't be bothered to leave my pjs today. Dehydrated maybe?

Snowy27 · 14/09/2011 17:45

I love ice-lollies! I had 4 yesterday and one for breakfast to day!
Scan went well- found a heart beat and it's 1 cm long! Feeling much happier today!

SurprisEs · 14/09/2011 17:55

1 cm! How amazing that they grow so big in the end!
Glad you're feeling well.
I think above anything it is to listen to the heartbeat that I want the most. It is soooo reassuring.

AprilAl · 14/09/2011 19:40

Congratulations to those who've had scans in the last few days. It's so lovely to see (and hear) your beans. I'm very jealous, can't week for my 12 week on the 28th

A cheer for surprisEs MIL (and a poke in the eye for her ex boss)

and glad to hear work are going to look after you properly Sugar26

Hope everyone else is keeping well and things are going swimmingly. I'm less nauseous the last few days than I have been, which is great given my BIL, his wife and my 10 month old nephew will be arriving later today until the weekend. I've been worrying about how sociable I'd be while nauseous and exhausted, but now I'm really looking forward to it. It'll be good practice!

Also got a letter today confirming I'll be consultant led and an appointment for my first meeting with the consultant - the day after my scan. It's all go now! Grin

I'm still trying to work out if I want to try for a home birth this time. I was so keen to have one with my daughter but had pre-eclampsia and was too high risk so I was induced. It was all a rather nasty experience and one that I would do anything to avoid. However, last time round the hospital was two minutes down the road, this time round, due to our local maternity unit shutting down, the hospital is over 40 minutes away and I'm not sure I'd be happy with that.
Plus the hospital is brand new and swanky, with private rooms - although the downside to that is people turn up there from miles away and local patients get shoved around as it fills up so quickly.
Ah well, plenty of time to make a decision!

Just waiting for the husband to arrive home with maple syrup - I have a major craving for bacon and pancakes!

spannermary · 14/09/2011 21:20

Home birth, eh? I've not even considered how I want to give birth - other than as painlessly as poss. I'm actually a bit Phobic about the thought of what my body has to go through. I am SHOCKING with pain. Everyone keeps saying 'you'll be fine' which doesn't really address my concerns - I need strategies, people! So - mums who've d

spannermary · 14/09/2011 21:22

(swears at iPhone!)

...mums who've done it before...what's the least stressful way to give birth? Home? Water? Drugs? Epidural? Caesar? Gas n air...?

LaTristesse · 14/09/2011 21:45

Hypnobirthing. No contest.

I did it with DS and it was absolutely amazing. Before I had him I was the type that needed therapy after a smear test ( no exaggeration), and I swear giving birth was the most awesome, positive and uplifting experience I have ever had. I can't wait to do it again!

MrsY · 14/09/2011 21:45

Hmm, there's no answer to that. I had an epidural and it was one of the most stressful things I've ever done. Don't forget your body is preparing itself already - and really, that's what your body is meant to do. The endorphines are designed to match your pain level at each point, so theoretically, you shouldn't need drugs, however, if you do, you do. It doesn't mean you can't have a stress free birth if you have gas and air. Don't have any pre-conceived ideas about it, just come up with a best-case scenario and then have in mind a few back up plans.

Some people want quiet, calm, and low lights - some need music and lots of stimulation to cheer them through it, You know what sort of person you are, but even then, it will probably all change as soon as the moment comes!

I know I'd like a water birth - I'm a quiet calm centred sort of person when it comes to pain, and am also a bit of a control freak!

cheaperthantherapy · 14/09/2011 21:45

Will this sickness ever go away :/ an convinced it's another girl because of the way I feel....

Georgee - my mum was similar! Back in 70's she had an X-ray which confirmed small pelvis - after my dd I asked doc if I could gave an X-ray to check and was told they don't do that :( v keen to not go 15 days over then emcs again - so am thinking a planned cs is best. Hopefully recovery would be better than after long labor/exhaustion etc

Mumofwil - glad to hear more good things about Kingston. I'm fairly positive it will be good - although still not received my booking in or scan appt time!

cheaperthantherapy · 14/09/2011 21:49

Btw - am addicted to iced lollies too... And confession time- today I ordered £40 worth of sweets from Australia (am Australian). I just had a craving for kool fruits and picnics...

georgee · 14/09/2011 22:01

cheaperthan I saw the mw today for my booking-in appt and asked her about the same thing - whether there's any way they can tell if I have a narrow pelvis and could physically give birth. She says there's no way they can tell. She says that x-rays didn't always give the right information or something although they used to do it ... be nice to have some idea though wouldn't it?

I was very much like you - DD was eventually born 16 days over after an induction, many hours labouring, all the drugs available (contrary to my 'all natural' birth plan) and then an emcs. At least they can't induce us this time - I'm sure that set me off badly.

On the food front, I've had rather a lot of Twixes today. And then didn't want my dinner.

Glad to hear of all these lovely 9wk scans - mine's all booked in for next week after much deliberating!

cheaperthantherapy · 14/09/2011 22:43

Oh your experience is very familiar! That was always my worst fear - ridiculously overdue then a day or more of induction and labour then all to end with emcs. I'm pleased that this time I'll have more control and not experience that again...

Super jealous about these early scans!

Saj30 · 15/09/2011 09:02

On the subject of food, I ate a quarter of packet of haribo gummi bears on the way into work... on a plus note I am eating a massive amount of fruit, I wonder if this cancels out the haribos (a packet a day) Grin

Finally had my risk assesment yesterday, was wondering if anyone could offer any advice. Basically I no longer fit into my work trousers so have begun wearing an ankle length skirt. My manager has asked me to stop wearing this as she is worried I will trip over it and feels its not appropriate for my type of work place (I work in a medical library). I did try and explain that since becoming pregnant I no longer spend anytime in the library, nor do I do any more of my normal duties (pulling files, going up and down ladders etc) and I'm on reception duties all the time surely this doen't count.
I really don't want to have to spend any money on maternity clothes yet, esp for work! But she was having none of it, by the way other women wear long skirts but for some reason is dead against me wearing one Confused

So if my clothing falls within regulations can she actually stop me from wearing what I choose to?

Sorry about the long post. Hope everyone is well. :)

kat2504 · 15/09/2011 09:07

If other women are allowed to wear long skirts then you should be too. I think she is going a bit ott, especially if you are sitting down on the reception! Can't you wear a shorter one like knee length or something that you won't trip over? Although I don't agree with your manager, you may as well invest in some maternity trousers as you will need them for some time. Get some that can grow with you.

Saj30 · 15/09/2011 09:18

Hello kat2504
I'm muslim so I can't show certain body parts. The thing is out of work I'm always in maxi dresses etc, it just felt like she was treating me like a child.

Ok any suggestions where I can can get some nice maternity trousers?

kat2504 · 15/09/2011 09:25

Oh I see. Yeah it does seem a bit excessive doesn't it. Perhaps she is just overly risk paranoid and taking it all a bit too seriously!
next have reasonably priced maternity trousers
www.next.co.uk/shop/category-trousers-productaffiliation-motherandbaby-gender-women-0
I think Marks and Spencer have similar online stuff. Or you could try the maternity shops/mail order but ones I have looked at seem quite expensive.

spannermary · 15/09/2011 12:58

...regarding maternity clothes - is it silly of me to want to wait till after dating scan to buy some? I've invested in a couple of bras as I was getting ezxcema, but feel that at 10 weeks it's a bit soon and the baby isn't really secure within me till the second trimester. (Even though I saw a heartbeat at 8 weeks!). Am I being over cautious? After all - even after 12 weeks things can change...

kat2504 · 15/09/2011 13:04

No I feel the same way. I'm not getting any until after the dating scan either. Really don't need them yet, just let my belt out a bit and opting for the looser comfier items i own. If I could stop eating crap I wouldn't have put on any weight at all.

spannermary · 15/09/2011 13:15

Well I've lost 4lb but things are starting to get tight. Oh well - only 2 weeks till scan!

spannermary · 15/09/2011 13:16

reaches for sneaky chocolate digestive :)

Saj30 · 15/09/2011 14:28

how is it? anytime anyone mentions any sort of food, including the ones I don't normally like I immedietly think "mmmm that sounds tasty" Grin
