Hello, not sure if there's a similar thread already but just thought I'd create somewhere for nayone else expecting in April 2012?

I actually conceived about 3wks ago but I think this counts as week 5? Just staring to get symptoms - headaches, little stirrings of nausea, getting tired and grumpier than usual lol.

A little bit concerned because I have a LOT of work on from now until October and maybe beyond - and I think I'm just going to want to sleep and puke through it all - hell! :( d'oh.

Glad the shift went well.

I'd be annoyed the manager told people I'm pregnant. That's for me to do!

kat2504 · 14/09/2011 12:47

I think in certain jobs it is perhaps necessary for your colleagues to know so that you are not put in dangerous situations.
However that doesn't apply to most jobs.

SurprisEs · 14/09/2011 12:56

I still think the manager should have told her that it was in her best interest for her colleagues to be informed. It would have been polite. It's not a big deal, but I think it would've been nice.

kat2504 · 14/09/2011 13:02

Oh yes I totally agree! Sending a semi-cryptic message which virtually gives it away is not the best tactic.

Sugar26 · 14/09/2011 13:06

That's what I thought! Or even to CC me in email? I was waiting until after scan to tell people that I was pregnant. I completely understand that the charge nurse needed to know because of the previous email, but the one about being sensitive to my needs lol!!!

Anyway, the cats out of the bag now so to speak so work colleagues know before most of my family!!!

SurprisEs · 14/09/2011 13:07

Has anyone else been eating like a wolf???

Sorry for the change of subject. Just hungry AGAIN.

kat2504 · 14/09/2011 13:09

Me too! I am currently having a whole pizza to myself for lunch! The last couple of days I have been famished in the morning and afternoon and not up to eating much at all in the evening.
I think I have some sort of evening sickness!

SurprisEs · 14/09/2011 13:13

Thing is, I remember reading last pregnancy that you don't actually need to "eat for two" until the end of pregnancy, which makes me feel guilty for eating like this. But I genuinely am hungry all day long!

LaTristesse · 14/09/2011 13:28

Yep, me too... I find it keeps the nausea at bay.

I had DS at DVH in 2010 SurprisEs and although my midwife wasn't the friendliest, and my labour didn't turn out at all the way I wanted it (through circumstance, not through any fault of theirs), I can't fault my care there. I was considering a home birth this time, but I wouldn't mind at all going back to DVH...

Agree with the others Sugar, bit rum of them to give the game away like that - I'd be miffed...

kat2504 · 14/09/2011 13:36

The pizza hasn't even filled me up! I am going to be bloody massive at this rate.

I have no chance of even considering a home birth! Only one hospital within a reasonable distance so I'm just going to have to go with that and try not to worry about things. It's not the greatest, but I don't think there are any grounds for concern either.

SurprisEs · 14/09/2011 13:38

2009 for me. I'm planning a home birth too but not sure I'll be able to have one. I live in a studio flat and we were going to move before having the baby but now I'm unemployed so God knows how I'm going to manage with 2 kids in a studio!

Bearcrumble · 14/09/2011 13:50

I think it was a bit off of the manager to tell your colleagues too, sugar. Hope the risk assessment is done soon and done properly.

SurprisEs Glad your MIL was so helpful. Grrr to your of a boss.

I am having a private scan in about 2 hours. I'll be 9w 2d. I'm a bit nervous. I've been keeping myself busy this morning with a trip to the London Transport Museum with DS, a friend and her toddler DS.

I've got a bit of a cold and not much appetite actually - I have to make myself eat because it helps with the nausea. I have dreadful constipation too, poo is like little rocks. I did with DS as well. I'm eating prunes when I remember to!

kat2504 · 14/09/2011 13:58

bearcrumble good luck with your scan hope it goes really really well and the little bear is growing nicely.

Poo like rocks - that made me laugh! I am suffering all manner of digestive discomforts at the moment!

SurprisEs · 14/09/2011 14:01

Good luck at the scan!

digitalgirl · 14/09/2011 14:17

Good luck bearcrumble

I'm eating like a wolf/horse/pig/cow too. And getting stretching pains in the evening where my abdo muscles (whats left of them) are separating to make room for growing food baby.

My scan went well this morning. Measures 9+1, Hb was 176bpm, baby was very active! My consultant was very pleased and said that my risk of mc has gone right down now that I've got to the 9th week. Think I'll still be a little bit nervous over the next couple of weeks, but I have another scan next week and the week after for reassurance.

My official dating scan has come through - 11th October, when I'll be 13 weeks. Hopefully I'll be pretty relaxed by then, which is probably good as I'm not expecting much tlc from that one (it won't be with anyone who's aware of my mc history).

Has anyone read the 'antenatal screening tests' booklet that comes with your scan appointment? I got a bit depressed reading it. Given one of my mcs was from chromosomal issues, I'm hoping that's my bad luck bit over and done with.

SurprisEs · 14/09/2011 14:23

I haven't even had my booking in appointment yet! I feel so jealous if people with dates for their scan!

digi I'm glad all is going well for you. Feel free not to answer: is all this extra care costing you a lot of money?

digitalgirl · 14/09/2011 14:59

surprisEs I haven't had a booking-in either! Not really expecting one till I'm 16 weeks. I don't mind answering: yes it's costing us quite a bit, but I've had 4 miscarriages since ttc#2 and all the NHS tests came back clear. I looked up this private consultant and he tested me for high Natural Killer cells and has put me on a steroid treatment. So the scans are costing more than typical private scans as they also lump his consultancy fee in with it. But in between I'm being scanned on the NHS at St Mary's EPU as I'm a patient of their recurrent miscarriage clinic - so I'm doubling up the care.
If all goes well I'll be transferred to my local hospital for the dating scan by which point we may have spent around £1400 on private treatment. If it means we get a baby at the end of all of this, is money well spent.
(disclaimer: I would probably have a very different outlook on private fertility treatment costs if I'd never had a miscarriage)

kat2504 · 14/09/2011 15:01

digi It will indeed be worth every penny for you. The peace of mind that the extra care must be giving you is priceless. Does that mean you have to pay for the steroid treatment then since it was privately diagnosed or are you getting that on the NHS?

digitalgirl · 14/09/2011 15:22

I paid for the first prescription (steroids are cheap, progesterone isnt) but then went to my gp to let him know what I was doing and he's very kindly agreed to write out any prescriptions for whatever I need! And now I'm pg it's all free.
Neither of the hospital consultants (both local and St Ms) agreed to prescribe me this treatment though, they're either under stricter guidelines or genuinely dont believe it in.

SurprisEs · 14/09/2011 15:28

Money well spent I say! Just saddens me that it is so expensive! At least your GP has been supportive.

digitalgirl · 14/09/2011 15:53

Yes, we're very lucky that we can afford it - although DC2 will be dressed in DS' hand-me-downs whether they are a boy or a girl!

SurprisEs · 14/09/2011 15:59

Hand-me-downs are great! I practically ddn't buy clothes for DD forthe first 9 months as all my colleagues from work gave me their daughters stuff. They are much older and don't want more kids.
I bought the occasional outfit out of want not need.
Toys, another easy thing to pass on.
Can't imagine making my son (if it's a boy) wear DD dresses though. The season will be a different one anyway so the clothes wouldn't suit. But the sleepsuits an bodysuits will all be reused.

SurprisEs · 14/09/2011 16:04

What are Natural Killer cells? Excuse my ignorance.

Bearcrumble · 14/09/2011 16:21

Natural Killer cells are part of the body's immune system - they fight viruses and tumours. If you have a high level they can attack a growing foetus and hence cause recurrent miscarriage.

My scan was fine - all measuring as it should and heartbeat 173 bpm. Smile

kat2504 · 14/09/2011 16:25

bearcrumble :) great news on your scan! It has been a good run of nice scans recently for us - April is clearly a lucky month to be born in!
