Had to start a new thread, as our old one got too big to post anymore.
yay figgy - your scan sounds great! A wee boy - now you only have to think about boy names. Woohoo.

My "contractions" were all in my back, and pretty much everyone who I've spoken to since has said theirs were too. If your hosp has the same idea as mine, as you are 35wks+, they'll want you in when contractions are regular at every 5 mins ( every 3 mins if full term). They won't try to stop or encourage labour, but they will want to monitor you and the baby, and have neonatal on standby. How regular are you now? It's probably worth giving them a call if you haven't already. Good luck!!!!! Xxx

AwomancalledHorse · 28/11/2011 13:10

Just looking at the stats thread, hard to believe we've been pregnant since March/April!! Shock
What's everyone got planned for today/this week?

Good luck Kri5ty!

I've started getting a really, really heavy feeling down there (LO was engaged 2 weeks ago), plus some actual contractions (although not often enough) so fingers crossed I'm getting ready for the 1st of Dec (any earlier and no homebirth)!

Hello ladies, a, enjoying my first day of ml. Still in my pajamas at 1:00pm bliss! Baby is moving like crazy! Had my appointment on Friday and the gp was worried re swollen feet and raised blood pressure so he sent me to the hospital. After a bp series and fetal monitoring I was told all good. On the plus side the obygn gave me a scan and baby is in optimal position lOA :) v happy about that even though he is not at all engaged!

figgygal · 28/11/2011 13:22

2nd day of ML for me well technically am using annual leave until 09th but had a productive trip to post office then wondered round town for couple hours, have a work meeting to dial in for tomorrow do just need to assign an activity for Wednesday now.

Most exciting is that last few days discharge has been heavier so wearing pads as got quite uncomfortable down there and today went to the loo and had some mucus/slime when wiped all good signs I hope. Baby not allowed to come though until Saturday have works Xmas dinner Thursday and local Victorian evening Friday and really want to do both 1st.

AwomancalledHorse · 28/11/2011 13:28

Oooh, Lala you slatten! Welcome the 'I'm not going out so cba to get dressed' club. It's nice to have a lazy day every now & again (although, I've had more than my fair share recently)!
Glad everything was ok for you at the GP's/hospital & that the scan showed right position!

Boo! at your work meeting tomorrow Figgy , after assigning the Weds activity is that you all done this year? Fingers crossed you stay pregnant until Saturday, what's this local Victorian evening about? Sounds interesting!

Talking of discharge, I sat on DH last night & left a puddle. Blush

mopsytop · 28/11/2011 13:29

Glad all ok lala.
I had a lovely weekend away. Felt pretty dreadful last night though, crampy pains in back, really painful and a few today but not too many. What can cause those, anyone know? Baby seems to have moved as well. She's been head down the whole time so far so I hope she hasn't decided to move into an awkward position now!

figgygal · 28/11/2011 16:35

Mopsy maybe you are just tired after a nice weekend and you will perk back up? am sure baby is happy still head down and finding his way out, when is your next appt?

AWCH its the local medieval town's christmas evening i drag DH every year they close the high street and have stalls, the traders dress up in old fashioned gear, they have a snow machine and santa arriving on his sleigh its very twee but kick starts xmas for me. I was buying christmas cards today and almost cried at the music in the shop it was michael buble singing the christmas song, now i would like to say it was hormones but that song always makes me a little weepy!!

As for work i just cant help myself!! come on baby need a distraction!!

mopsytop · 28/11/2011 16:38

Hopefully figgy! Next check up is on Thursday but having a scan Wed actually so will know for sure! It's part of a study so not a medical check up but will be able to see where she is. Can't wait.

kri5ty you might want to check with the MWs before taking co-codamol...not sure how close too close is (or indeed if over the counter co-codamol has enough codeine to effect LO) but codeine may cause breathing difficulties in baby if taken too close to birth apparently.

OiMissus · 28/11/2011 17:24

honey they were practically force-feeding me codeine when I was in the delivery suite! No one mentioned anything about breathing difficulties! The over-the-counter doses are tiny compared with what you are given in hospital, so it's probably nothing to worry about. I'll have to look up the codeine/breathing difficulties info though. (That's depressing - the pain relief is very welcome during contractions! Although for the real thing I shall be looking forward to hooking up the tens machine and having a go at the gas and air - although am also a bit scared that it'll make me hazy/dizzy. I don't like feeling dizzy.)

HoneyLovesCake · 28/11/2011 18:03

Oi I remember you saying that & I know that others have been prescribed codeine during pregnancy for migraines etc but I wonder if that was because they didn't believe birth was imminent for you Hmm. Like most drugs (because no pregnant woman would willingly be a drug test subject) the safety of codeine has not been established. Personally I took 1 the day I had a particularly rough orthodontist appointment, after checking with my doctor & I'd do it again, just not sure I'd take it during labour...it's notable though that it has the same side effects as pethedine (drowsiness, breathing difficulties) so if you're comfortable taking that it shouldn't be an issue. I don't fancy using G&A either...worried about the nausea :(

HoneyLovesCake · 28/11/2011 18:07

This is the info I found online:

NHS: "You should only take this medicine during pregnancy if your doctor thinks that you need it. You need to discuss your specific circumstances with your doctor to weigh up the overall risks and benefits of taking this medicine."

Medicinenet: "Codeine is generally avoided in pregnancy because it may cause fetal physical dependence, withdrawal and growth retardation. It should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. It is not recommended for use for long periods or in high doses near the expected delivery day because of the potential for fetal harm."

Netdoctor: "If codeine is used near term in the third trimester it may cause breathing difficulties or withdrawal symptoms in the baby after birth. This medicine should be avoided during pregnancy, unless considered essential by your doctor, and then only if the expected benefit to the mother outweighs any potential risk to the baby. Seek medical advice from your doctor."

OiMissus · 28/11/2011 18:13

That doesn't sound good at all!!!! It was the standard on the antenatal ward - if you were in any pain, you were given 2 paracetamol, and 2 x 30mg codeine (I only took 1 x 30mg - after the first time - as it made me dizzy). I'm pretty shocked now. Evol midwives!!
What's the new thread title going to be, we're running out of space...

NorthernChinchilla · 28/11/2011 18:52

Blimey, after us all whinging that no-one's having babies, it seems all of you are going to drop the minute we reach December!

kri5ty, are the contractions still going on?
AWCH, only here could you write about sitting on your OH and leaving a puddle, and it be both humorous and good news!
figgy, sounds like the plug is going....

I can't believe we've all been pregnant since Spring and are now ready to drop. Everyone sounds like they're physically gearing up for birth, and it's just sooo exciting.

Not a squeak for me, but then in my case it hardly matters!

Still trying to calm OH down over cot failure; bloody typical of my Dad not to have brought it in September, and so we're now left with two weeks to go before baby's born and have no cot. I'm pretty chilled about it, as he'll be in the moses basket, but OH is not... and my Mum will hit the roof.

Ah, families Smile- speaking of which, is everyone sorted with their family issues around turning up/staying/supporting them with birth choices?

OiMissus · 28/11/2011 19:07

kristy just posted on the other thread that she's at the hospital, 3cm dilated. They've sent her to the cafe for a bit (??) and will wait till she's 4cm before giving her her earlt epidural as planned. Exciting times!!
It was after reflexology that kristy started with her contractions. I'm booked in for a sesh tomorrow at 2pm. I don't want to be left behind! :)

AwomancalledHorse · 28/11/2011 20:28

figgy, the fair/evening sounds really cool!

Northen, sorry to hear the cot was a faliure! We've got IL's bringing ours down (2nd hand from a family friend) this weekend, so fingers crossed ours is ok.
Family-wise we're sorted, as long as my family/mum don't all of a sudden start caring and expect to be in contact! Half expecting mother to make some sort of fuss, given her status as a full time martyr.

Oooh, good news about kri5ty!
Looks like we'll need a new first timers thread (just in time for the first 1st timer birth??); any name suggestions?

mopsytop · 28/11/2011 21:18

Exciting news about kri5ty! I still have nearly 4 weeks to go . Already thoroughly uncomfortable and fed up. Most of you will have your babies by then I think!

OP posts:
NorthernChinchilla · 28/11/2011 21:37

Oooooh, how exciting! That's brilliant news for kir5ty! And yes, new thread for the first first-timer birth, has to be.

Sorry it wasn't you Oi, you're taking it very well Smile. Good idea ref the reflexology- I have this image now of reflexologists across the country being deluged by wild-eyed women due in December!

New thread- I suggested some titles back a couple of pages if you want to use any of those? Not sure what the ettiquet (sp, God knows?!) is, do you get to choose mopsy as you set this one up? Could cheer you up seeing as you've got the longest to go? We could even name it after you!

AWCH, I really don't think that the cot business could go any worse than ours, and so I indeed have my fingers crossed that it all goes well for you!

mopsytop · 29/11/2011 15:39

what were the thread ideas again? I can barely remember my own name!

OP posts:
OiMistletoe · 29/11/2011 15:55

I can only remember something about "First timers due December - from bumps to babes". Do it mopsy! Smile

mopsytop · 29/11/2011 16:27

Oooh I think I might! Feel like will never have babe-status again (weeble-TASTIC at the moment) but there is always a faint glimmer of hope ...
