Had to start a new thread, as our old one got too big to post anymore.
yay figgy - your scan sounds great! A wee boy - now you only have to think about boy names. Woohoo.

You made me laugh AWCH but also ugh!
I know exactly what you mean Oi me too! Bonus of pregnancy methinks - there are not many so might as well enjoy :)

Bah! My last dream involved two senior people from work, one of whom had committed misconduct, but it turned out his boss made him do it..and then his boss was holding me and another group of people hostage with a machine gun and I was begging her not to shoot me because I was pregnant...

Is this worse than being Katie Price and doing Alex Reid or not Confused?!

I am really jealous pleased for you Oi that you feel happier about yourself: the amazing restorative powers of nookie!

I was chuffed at the MW's yesterday as not only had my bump 'caught up' and was now measuring at bang on 34, but was also a what she called a student bump, in that as it was so well formed it would be a perfect teaching aid for a student midwife!

It's ridiculous what you can feel pleased about, but frankly I'll take the compliments where I can at the moment Grin.

Hope everyone else is feeling cheerful?

AwomancalledHorse · 09/11/2011 22:44

Oooh hark at Northen with her la-di-da student bump Grin
Glad everything is going well for you, talking of student MW's...would people be ok with one being at their birth? If we're asked about it, I'll say yes, the more the merrier!

I'm too scared to sleep tonight, that's the second dream I've had about Alex Reid since being pregnant...I hope I don't subconsciously fancy him, or maybe Squatter will come out with an Alex Reid head!! Noooooo.

Now that bump has moved down, I've not been walloped in the ribs for a whole day so am feeling alot more comfortable/cheerful!

mopsytop · 10/11/2011 08:54

AWCH you are really making me laugh with your Alex Reid dreams ... hope last night your dreams were safe and Alex-free !!

MW asked me if I would mind having a student MW at birth when I had my birth plan appt yesterday; I said it was fine...not that keen really but I figure since I'm having a hypnobirth it's important that MW's see alternative births as well as normal ones to give them a more balanced view & maybe normalise it a bit more? Hopefully I won't chicken out & give hypnobirthing a bad name Blush

OiMissus · 10/11/2011 11:02

Morning all, just waiting for my MW appt now. I wrote my birth plan yesterday, and said I don't mind either way if trainees are present.( an extra pair of hands to bring DH cups of coffee!)

lalababy · 10/11/2011 11:07

With regards to students... we had our parent information session and the MW did say that if you are not vehmently opposed - so please allow students to be present as that is they only way they really learn. Plus it is usually only one student per labour... and the winning factor... that most students can give you a back rub for 8 hours straight

That sold it for me :)

figgygal · 10/11/2011 13:09

Bump has dropped today is much much lower than it has been which has been good in terms of being able to sit down more comfortably am looking forward to MW on Tuesday as really hopeful he has engaged. Have noticed though am getting what I can only describe as a spare tyre on my bump hardly surprising since have put on 2.5 stone shot through the overweight BMI to Obese based on the scales this morning (not that BMI means much at this stage I expect) so once birth plan is written over the weekend shall be into full scale operation babyweight planning. Just another reason to try and avoid a CS as can?t wait to get back to Zumba in the new year. MW is going to weigh me on Tuesday though just to reinforce the guilt!!

I have asked a very ignorant question about skin to skin on the childbirth forum, god I still feel so ill informed despite months of Mumsnet, reading books and ante natal classes.

AwomancalledHorse · 10/11/2011 13:17

I didn't have sex with Alex Reid last night. Hurrah!
Although I didn't have sex with Dh either, boo! He's got a really bad cold atm (DH, not Alex Reid!) and as much as I love him, I would like to kick him in the man-junk because of his snoring.

lala, I like the idea of an 8 hour back rub! Going to start writing down birth plan later today (more likely tomorrow).
Glad you've dropped figgy, tis bliss not having a foot in the ribs!
All the pregnancy online weight calculators think I've put on too much, but I'm just happy I've put weight on (I'm still not eating anywhere near 2000cals a day). Hopefully one of the local weight loss groups will have an excellent new year offer on & I'll not spend that much money trying to get my figure back!!

Scary thought of the day; someone asked me if I'm looking forward to being a parent. We're going to have children....for the next 18 years we're incharge of another human. It's hitting me in waves now, ARGH! Shock

OiMissus · 10/11/2011 13:26

18 years? Whoever told you it was 18 years???! It's for life, and given that lots of "kids" are still living at home at age 30, we'll never have peace again!
I weighed myself this morning, and was a bit shocked that I've now put on 2 stone. But then, GingerBaby is over 7lbs now, if last week's scan is correct, and at 36+6, I'm measuring over 40cm today. Shock
The MW appointment was great - really thorough - and hopefully she's found a solution to the contractions, and a more appropriate antibiotic (full story on the other Dec thread). She also said that she very much doubts that I'll go as far as 40 weeks, so that's good news. :)
Good news about a lack of Alex Reid, awch!

lalababy · 10/11/2011 13:28

AWCH My view is that while I can't wait to no longer be pregnant... and love buying lil baby clothes... hell no... ofcourse I am not ready to be a parent!!! But fortunately I am told you are only ready for that after it pops out :)

lalababy · 10/11/2011 13:29

Also... my baby has NOT dropped...why oh why not? I have the absolute worst pain in my ribs and back... willing to try anything to encourage him down... any suggestions :(

mopsytop · 10/11/2011 13:38

Mine hasn't dropped either and constantly have a foot or bum or something in ribs (which hurts!) but then I am not looking forward to the bowling ball between legs feeling either, so I have a feeling you can't win!

OP posts:
AwomancalledHorse · 10/11/2011 13:47

It's 18 years Oi, no more, they all move out & never return the day they turn 18.

OiMissus · 10/11/2011 14:19

We'll have to start saving up for their university fees now so we get them out at 18... But they'll come back...
Tis strange, isn't it? I feel like I'm about to get a puppy or something - small and cute with toys etc, that you take for walks... but the thought of them then growing up... what? really? Did we sign up for that too?
"A Dog Baby is for life, not for Christmas" Yikes!

lalababy · 10/11/2011 14:35

Hehehe... so true Oi I only want em when they are cute and cuddly.

FYI AWCH I am 33 and I still ask my folks for help! My mum is flying in for 6 weeks to be my maid help cook, clean, take care of me and baby :) My dad still helped pay for most of our wedding when my and DH were the ripe old age of 32 :)

So its gonna be a long time till you send them off :)

OiMissus · 10/11/2011 15:00

Oh flip, yeah, university fees, first home contribution, wedding help... What are we doing??!

mopsytop · 10/11/2011 15:02

University fees in particular - minimum £27k just for fees never mind maintenance and more if they do a 4-year degree. No idea how would ever save that much! Eeeeek!

OP posts:
NorthernChinchilla · 10/11/2011 21:11

Y'know, one of the things I'm looking forward to about mat leave is the ability to come on here during the day and actually chat!

Me and the la-di-dah bump (love it) have bounced along v well today AWCH Grin! And I bet you did very rude things to Alex last night and you're just not telling us...

I've specifically said on my plan that I'd be delighted to have students at the birth, even doing a bit of the sewing if they were VERY CAREFULLY MONITORED. As OH's Dad is a doctor, and also my Mum as been so seriously ill and been helped back to life/normality by the NHS, both families tend to take a 'join in and practice' approach.

It'll be fun when we all graduate to the post natal support group bits and see how the actual parenting bit goes...I feel ready to be a parent and can't wait to have him here, but my greatest worry is that I won't know what to do with the time...which is beyond stupid as the one thing I've picked up is that it takes over your life, but still.

As for saving-meh! I need my money to keep me in quality vodka, sprog will have to go out and work! Wine

OiMissus · 11/11/2011 10:51

Ah with you and your "la-di-dah" bump, and me and my "tight as a nut" bump, it'll almost be a shame to get rid of them.. NOT!
My bump has just recently started displaying a few very fine red thread lines... are these the start of stretch marks?? No!!!! I've come so far!

I'm totally ready to be a parent to a baby. As for what to do with the time,... Well this week off work, I'm supposed to be resting, but I've had so much to do. And the house is still a mess. :(
I think we'll be pretty busy!

lalababy · 11/11/2011 14:28

Well... for all of us planning on breastfeeding... I reckon most of our time will be sent sitting in one place with the boob handing out! Bascially as the baby feeds 8 - 10 times a day - that means we will lbe spending 8 hours a day breastfeeding, then change nappies 12 times a day - so another 3 hours on that, 3 hours of cleaning, entertaining and putting baby to sleep, 7 hours of us sleeping, 3 hours of us bathing/changing our maternity pads, ordering take away and eating ourselves means we will have a Grand total of ZERO MINUTES OF FREE TIME

NorthernChinchilla · 11/11/2011 19:24

Oooh, 'tight as a nut' bump, that's a good one! It does sound like that's the beginning of stretch marks, so sorry Oi Sad. I got loads going through puberty, so don't mind them that much- just little silvery lines now that you'd never notice.

That's a very good point lala, I forget about the breastfeeding bit and the demands that places on your time. I am aware that sounds spectacularly stupid, sorry! I think I'm just so unused to being at home and/or having any spare time (I actually have a bit of an odd fear of it, and always keep reading material with me so I'm never without 'something to do').

Had a call from the Health Visitor today, they're coming round to the house in a couple of weeks: anyone else getting this pre-visit? She actually said they'd usually do it far earlier in the pregnancy (I will actually be 12 days off giving birth by the time she does) but that 'the service is on its knees!' Shock

I have visions of sitting her down, giving her a cup of tea, and seeing how she's doing...

HoneyLovesCake · 12/11/2011 11:21

Already had my visit; took flippin' ages but possibly because I find it hard to give short concise answers to questions like "did you have a good childhood" Confused She gave me my red book (which I seem to have lost) Blush, some leaflets about PND, SIDS, BFing, cosleeping, vaccinations & the NHS Birth to Five Book (like the purple Pregnancy book) I would advise saying as little as possible...I told her loads of stuff about myself which she then had to try turn into 1 sentence to fit into a tiny answer box.

OiMissus · 12/11/2011 12:04

Good idea northern -turn it into a therapy session for her. Smile
I haven't heard any news at all about HV's. Hopefully they'll be so on their knees in my area that they won't bother at all.

OiMissus · 12/11/2011 12:39

Almost forgot, whilst rubbing in the belly oil last night, I decided to have a tweak - because of all the "expressing " talk on the other thread - and lo, I soon had wet fingers. Was both thrilled and shocked at the same time. I make milk. Jus d'Oi. Moi! Who'da thought it?
Feel a bit relieved knowing that there is produce, so all I need to do is get the latch right. Smile
