Had to start a new thread, as our old one got too big to post anymore.
yay figgy - your scan sounds great! A wee boy - now you only have to think about boy names. Woohoo.

awch I can't be sure, but I'd guess it's nothing to worry about. If your next appt is in the next couple if weeks, maybe wait - but if it's worrying you, call. That's what they're there for - and you'll get your answer in seconds. X

figgygal · 16/09/2011 13:46

AWCH I wish i would have a couple of weeks of not putting on weight i really want to go swimming but have a cold so not wanting to chance making it worse. The baby centre weight calculator said for my height the average weight gain would be up to 1 stone 11lbs i have put that on already!!

Got my first sleep bag yesterday bought it off ebay for £5 including postage and it is like its never been used!! 2.5 tog for winter so perfect going to look out for more now refuse to spend £20+ for a new one.

Bit worried people at work think i am on the breadline as all my stuff apart from bed, change table and pushchair have been off ebay and i keep crowing about my bargains!! I could afford them new i just refuse to buy these things at their original cost. My Baby Gym, Swing and Vibro chair were all together £50 off ebay if i had bought the gym new it would have been £58 itself. Its like weddings i suppose everything more expensive than it needs to be!!

OiMissus · 17/09/2011 09:57

I haven't weighed myself in weeks. The last time I tried here at home the scales said that I was 9stone something. So either it's broken, or it was sympathising and wanted me to feel better about myhugeself. :)
Great bargain hunting figgy!

mopsytop · 17/09/2011 10:01

figgy you are dead right. I haven't bought anything yet actually and am trying to buy the least possible (lovely friends giving me free stuff!) but why pay full price when you don't have to! I was the exact same for my wedding actually. And what will the baby care anyway? Buying stuff new (apart from, obviously, stuff that needs to be new e.g. cot mattress) is for the mum's and dad's gratification, not the baby's imo.

Just weighted myself Oi and put on so far 15 lbs. Is that normal for 26 weeks? Ugh I had put on 2 stone before I got pregnant due to comfort eating when away on fieldwork followed by leg injury and no exercise so I was a heifer anyway, now I am SO CHUB I HATE IT. I wish I could look in a mirror and not cringe. And pelvic girdle pain means I can't do proper exercise :(

mopsytop · 17/09/2011 10:01

(weighed even -oops!)

OiMissus · 17/09/2011 10:14

OK, just weighed myself, the scales seem to be more realistic now and show that I have put on 17lbs in total - I'm 29wks+1. So that sounds OK to me. Maybe that means I can have a piece of toast... :)

Sorelip · 17/09/2011 12:02

I've put on 25lb so far, and have a massive sweet tooth. I intend to put the treadmill we have to good use once the baby is born, plus I intend to bf, which, according to my midwife, is the best diet ever. Good times! :o

mopsytop · 17/09/2011 12:12

It is hard not to just want to scoff isn't it? Some days I am so hungry all the time, it is impossible to fill up!

Sorelip just to put a downer on things, my big sister never lost the weight until she stopped breastfeeding ... so it doesn't work for all I am afraid. But hopefully it will work for all of us!

My mother always lost weight when pregnant - that is, once she'd had the baby, she was thinner than before pregnancy. Ha, fat chance of that for me. All her babies were early too. Bet that won't be the case for me either!

My friend still bfs her little one - he's nearly 2. And she's the skinniest she's ever been! And she can eat! And she drinks lots of wine. And does no extra exercise - apart from running after the kids.

kri5ty · 18/09/2011 12:24

hey girls

i have been busy catching up, i cant remember what i was going to say now...

other than lala my friend threw me a baby shower, i didnt want one but it was great and i got loadsss of clothes (whole wardrobe of 0-3months!), loads of nappies, wipes etc :)

and i cant remember who got the grobags off ebay? i did too, i have 2 2.5 togs and a 1 tog in a bigger size, all £5 each :o god bless ebay!

figgygal · 18/09/2011 12:43

Just made an emergency trip to shop for some angel delight I wanted butterscotch had to make do with chocolate but as it's the no added sugar kind justifying eating the whole thing.

Next door neighbour gave us 4 sleep bags yesterday wooo!!! And a baby bath which wasn't going to bother getting but I'll take it gratis and make most of it. Also gave us about 40 nappies their little one didn't get a chance to use and more clothes god I must have over 100 bits of clothes now oops

mopsytop · 18/09/2011 12:52

wow Figgy I have no clothes! Although have a box of stuff waiting for me at my sister's sister-in-law's, if I can ever make it down there to pick it up. Should do so really so I know what I need to get still. Was given a free car seat by a friend, but it's a few years old, now worrying I should get a new one. Also, what cot to get? So much choice. Argh!

OP posts:
figgygal · 18/09/2011 16:21

I expect a lot of clothes will never be worn but 99% of it is either hand me downs or from parents. Will have to get a table at an NCT sale in the future I expect.

Got my baby jogger city mini out today pushing it around the house I LOVE it!!

kri5ty · 18/09/2011 18:53

yay figgy thats ace about he clothes!

ps i have butterscotch one in the kitchen... i had to buy it yesterday... how strange!!

OiMissus · 19/09/2011 08:28

I picked up tins of Ambrosia rice pudding at the weekend. Not had it in ages!
I'm jealous of the sleep gro-bag things. I'll wait until the next Mamas and papas sale... :)
Only 9 weeks of work to go now. :) :) :)

NorthernChinchilla · 19/09/2011 21:21

Butterscotch Angle Delight is the pudding of my childhood- BUT- you have to crumble a Cadbury's flake over it. Try it, you'll never want it without again....

Because the long-term contraception I was on had made me put on 3/4 - 1 stone, which came on overnight and then stayed for 8 years, I managed the odd trick of dropping a dress size in early pregnancy, as it all came off when I stopped the contraception but I got pregnant within weeks...and then was in maternity clothes at 10 wks- talk about rollercoaster!

I don't believe weighing is good for the soul so have never owned scales! I'm sorry you feel so down mopsy, it's grim when you just put on weight (and not through fun ways of eating or drinking) that you then can't shift: it was awful when mine just turned up, and being philosophical about it only takes you so far...

Totally agree with everyone on the second hand stuff- I still buy at least 50% of my work clothes (non preggy stuff) from charity shops, and will continue to do so. I can't bring myself to spend loads of stuff on baby items, just because I know they'll grow out of it so quickly (although my Mum is making up for me in that respect!)

Just starting to get excited now, it feels like the countdown has begun...Smile

Awomancalledhorse · 20/09/2011 07:35

We probably have Angel Delight 3/4 times a month in my house. I really, really love it, and tinned semolina

Northen, your suggestion of Angel Delight with flake crumble sounds awesome! When we were kids, at easter, we used to fill half an easter egg with angel delight, top with squirty cream and consume

Still haven't put on weight for a few weeks now, so am on bed rest (at the request of DH) to stop me burning so many calories! Life is hard Grin

Feels odd knowing that soon I won't be the youngest generation in my family (cousins etc have had children..but this just feels different)! We're all going to be responsible adults! Aahhhhhh!

figgygal · 20/09/2011 08:17

I went to an epidural talk last night at bath hospital was fascinating really decided it's the way to go for me. They don't do walking eps though which would have preferred but they are introducing patient controlled so u can increase levels of relief every 15 mins if u need to or let it wear down if u prefer sounds good.

There were 4 women there 4 weeks further along than me and I felt bigger than them their bumps were nice and firm mine has gone flabby again. Have put on almost 2 stone already it's horrible. If I cut down on food I get dizzy so that doesn't help. Still craving sugar and sweets damn it.

lalababy · 20/09/2011 10:30

Hey all... hope all is going well. figgy I am so J... I can't even get through to my hospital to book in a tour let alone the parent information sessions. ALmost considering changing hospitals! Thankfully though the balance of my appointments are with GP who is fab.

So hubby gave me a talking to this weekend and said he was sick of seeing me in my frumpy ebay clothes and trying to squeeze into my old gear. Plus apparently he never wants to see me in his tshirts and shorts again! So he called my mates and we went maternity shopping... I bought 6 tops, a pair of cords and 2 sweaters. And while I was really proud of my bargain discount shopping, sitting here today in my brand new outfit feels pretty good :)

LondonGirly · 20/09/2011 11:42

It is really starting to hit home and I am going to be responsible for a little person in a few weeks. Am going to be 30 weeks this week - which was one of my milestones.

4.5 weeks until half term and then start maternity leave on 31st October. Feel like there is so much I need to organise before then!!

lala it does make a difference having some outfits you are happy in, doesn't it.

NorthernChinchilla · 20/09/2011 12:24

AWCH I'm not letting my other half see your suggestion ref Easter eggs and cream, he'd end up spherical.....!

Am off to the hospital this afternoon, for 'the tour', which is helpfully scheduled in the hour before I have my meeting with consultant to discuss birth options. So a fun-packed afternoon (cough!) all round. Please God they may actually listen to me, but am not too hopeful. Will be asking about mobile epidurals and the 'who do I have to pay/kill/marry to get a room here' question.

Totally screwed up working from home this morning- password issues with laptop meant I couldn't get into they system, and so have had to do housework/baby prep jobs all morning, and will have to write reports Saturday morning instead. Does mean that I've booked the one, one-day ante-natal class that's on offer, and done some serious clearing in the baby's room though. Plus a load of other housework. Is this good prep for when baby arrives I wonder?!

It seems funny how we've all transitioned from the "oh fuckity, I'm pregnant, aaargh" to the "oh crap, I'm going to be responsible for a baby in a few weeks" without much inbetween Smile

lalababy · 20/09/2011 13:46

Waaaa I want top cry! I can't believe I am unable to organise a hospital tour or ever meet with anyone to discuss what I want for my labour! This just sucks!!! I feel like I am in this all alone!

FairyBayleaf · 20/09/2011 19:27

lalababy where did you get your cords from? I love cords but they haven't been about for ages, and now that they are, I'm too big to wear ordinary ones. Haven't seen maternity ones!

I'm hoping I'll get a hospital tour as part of the antenatal classes we've got coming up.

No cravings yet - but drinking loads of milk lately...?

NorthernChinchilla · 20/09/2011 19:54

lala that seems awful. It's ridiculous that you're in T3 and still haven't been able to discuss labour with anyone.
I don't know how accessible it is for you, but is it worth going down to the ante-natal/maternity section of your hospital in person and asking them there, either for a tour/conversation/booking?

How's your midwife for sorting stuff out? Sounds like they should be your first port of call, but don't know from earlier in the thread if you've had issues there too.
If your GP's good, then throw yourself on their mercy.

You've got us and your OH for support, but it's no good if you're feeling unsupported by the medical lot who are somewhat critical.

Keep us updated as to how you get on, but if you need to swap hospitals then go for it.

Sorelip · 20/09/2011 22:07

No one has discussed labour with me either. Should they have?
