Had to start a new thread, as our old one got too big to post anymore.
yay figgy - your scan sounds great! A wee boy - now you only have to think about boy names. Woohoo.

Mopsy the 28 week one isn't any more exciting! All very quick although did have more bloods done.

Randomly today I measured 29cm so back on target!!

Have a bit of a malteasers addiction today :-)

OiMissus · 13/09/2011 20:24

I didn't get bloods done at my 28 wk appt, but did get measured for the first time. ...for those of you not in the other thread, I measured 34cm!!!!!! I have to go and see an antenatal doc and have another scan. It's probably just fluid.... it can't be a big baby, I'm 5'2", and DH is only 5'9"ish!

NorthernChinchilla · 13/09/2011 20:33

I love hearing the heartbeat too... I'm not a soppy person at all, but each time a little tear will escape Blush. To be fair, it's probably also because the angle of the check up table thing has been perfectly designed to set off my sciatica, but still....

Hope all the work on the house is cracking along lala, have you much left to do?
This weekend whilst I'm visiting rellies, my other half will be moving loads of books and two bookshelves down into the dining room, which will mean that the baby's room will be in essence cleared. We've got the moses basket and nursing chair in the front bedroom, so actually feeling relatively sorted on house front...not quite sure how that happened!

FairyBayleaf · 13/09/2011 21:46

Hullo! waves

New to this thread, but been on the December due date one. I'm expecting my first baby - a boy - on December 10th.

mopsytop · 14/09/2011 10:15

Haha me too Northern. Didn't have a tear this time but did the first time. I guess this time I can feel it kicking all the time so I know it's there anyway but the first time I heard the heartbeat (16 weeks) I just felt so happy and relieved.

Hi Fairy, I think I am on the December one too? Or maybe it's a different one?

Finding it so hard to crack on with PhD - normally am a bit of a workaholic so don't know what's up with me. Need to GET ON. Right going to go and write for the rest of the morning, see you later!

OP posts:
lalababy · 14/09/2011 15:46

Welcome Fairy!

Northern All the big stuff is done... now it is just about getting all the little bits sorted like putting up paintings, getting some radiator covers etc just the lil things that make a house look like a home! But no hurry for all that... I guess I can take my time!

Oimissus ... hope your scan goes well. Let us know how you get on.

Awomancalledhorse · 14/09/2011 18:24

Hi Fairy!

Weird ebay item of the day; baby wipes warmer (apparently having the wipes warmed opens the pores and baby is less likely to get nappy rash?! I think what they mean to say is 'Pah! New parents will buy ANYTHING in their crazed hormonal state').

Northen, sounds good! Hope we get ours sorted soon.

Has anyone else thought; 'I'll cope just buying the next size up in normal clothes instead of forking out for maternity stuff'....only to then decide to buy some maternity stuff anyhoo?
All my next sizes up clothes aren't fitting, so I'm going to have to invest in some maternity stuff (going to get all nursing suitable tops/dresses). gah!

mopsytop · 14/09/2011 18:52

That's hilarious AWCH - what's wrong with sticking the pack of baby wipes on the radiator? No need for a special warmer!

Maternity clothes waaaaaay more comfy for me than next size up I have to say. But I only have a few - 2 pairs jeans and 6 tops, so I am already getting mighty sick of them! I will be SO fed up of them by the time the baby gets here!

OP posts:
NorthernChinchilla · 14/09/2011 21:01

AWCH that is so far ahead in the pointless crap stakes I'm not even going to suggest we should have a competition- gold is taken. I mean, seriously?

Hello Fairy! I'd love to see the stats for our little thread, as that's another boy on the way.

Sounds like you've been ridiculously busy lala, and you can indulge some nesting instincts getting the house kitted out into a home. After spending a year working non-stop on ours, I remember how brilliant it was just getting little things, like a pair of lamps, or a poster for a room, and just making it that little bit more 'homey'. Am still getting great joy from the re-arranging/clearing that having sprog on the way has permitted me to do!

Am mixing it up between bigger clothes and maternity- just bough a grey cape/poncho thing for my winter coat, which was a one-size-fits-all-including-weebles and only £22, and the trousers I got from RI were two sizes up and dead comfy. But some of the basics, especially my one pair of jeans, work shirts and vests I've got maternity. I do feel lucky I've not had to buy any new undies though!

LondonGirly · 14/09/2011 21:01

Think I am going to have to invest in another pair of trousers, not sure I want to get maternity tights, they seem really expensive given how clumsy I am these days.

Had enough of heartburn, it has come back with vegence today after i thought the gaviscon and milk combo had got it under control. Any suggestions anyone?

NorthernChinchilla · 14/09/2011 21:36

Me neither london- I can't bear tights at the best of times, hate tight things around my middle, so the idea of pregnancy tights just seems awful. I've bought some bog-standard hold-ups from M&S, haven't tried them yet but don't know if they'd be an option for you? Cheaper, easier to get on and can be used after pregnancy?

Sorry about the heartburn- I'm sure there'll be someone on here who can help, and there's been loads on the general pregnancy thread about it.

Awomancalledhorse · 15/09/2011 08:37

Northen, glad to hear I'm not the only one who loves making a home 'homey', moved into DH's bachelor pad 3 years ago, only now is it starting to feel like home!
Mmmm poncho/cape, guess it's the best sort of jacket for expanding stomachs!

London, I'm normally a dress wearer, but the price of maternity tights (considering I'm a supermarket ob, 5 for £4 sort of clumsy person) is crazy, even on eBay.
Can't help with the heartburn, sorry you've still got it!

26wks today (DD 22nd Dec)...my maths is a bit rubbish, but surely that means some of you early Dec DD women are only 10-11 weeks away from being 'Mum'? Shock

lalababy · 15/09/2011 10:53

I am about the same as you AWCH ... my DD is 18 December...so just a bit over 26 weeks.

I have to say maternity wear is the only way to go. Feels so good to have these nice flat / loose elasticy things around my tummy! Heaven! I bought most of my maternity wear on ebay and so far it has been great. For work I have 1 pair of pants, 2 skirts, 2 dresses and 6 shirts... all for the nifty price of £25.00 Then I also have 1 pair of jeans, 1 pair of pants and 4 tops for outside work for £18.00! I cant ask for more... All I need now are a couple of sweaters and a coat for later and I am sorted! And when I am done another preggo can have the luxury of wearing it all again!

Northern can't tell you how busy I have been... but finally we are slowing down and can start getting excited about accessorising. It really is a never ending project... I think I was too obsessed with getting everything done straight away, rather than just enjoying the process which is what I want to do now!

LondonGirly · 15/09/2011 11:12

AWCH am now 29 weeks, so it is all getting worryingly close
Need to do more shopping! And sort out Christmas! Think the baby is seen as being term from 37 weeks, so could be from 8 weeks onwards!

I've knitted a huge cardi which will hopefully double as a coat until the baby comes, otherwise might try an old ski jacket!

Guess we'll be on to hospital bags in the next month or so!

Awomancalledhorse · 15/09/2011 11:16

lala, it must've been you sniping my bids on bundles of maternity clothes! Grin, what an awesome amount of clothes for such low prices.
I've just won a pair of maternity jeans for .15p (pls 2.99P&P), always feel really guilty when stuff is so much cheaper than I guess the seller wanted it to go for!

Our Baby Journal turned up this morning (it's a bit twee, as it's a USA one..so it mentions baby showers etc, but it's got loads of space for writing) & our car seat is coming this afternoon. Now all I need is the baby!

OiMissus · 15/09/2011 11:59

Hi ladies, - yep, hospital bags will have to be thought about soon. I already feel like I'm ready to pop, don't know how I'll be in another 10-11 weeks!
I have a mix of maternity stuff, baggy stuff and large size stuff. I keep trawling the AllSaints sales and have a few of their big baggy jumpers and dresses. (I just pray that they'll still look OK when I'm all slim and svelte for once in my life again, after the baby is born). I have invested in thick maternity opaques/woolly tights as even maternity trousers seem to cut into my tummy after being sat down for a few hours. At the moment this is OK as I can still - just about - zip up knee length boots, but it's becoming more of a struggle... No matter what I'm wearing, when I get home from work I get changed into sloppy clothes, or "loungewear". I never thought I would EVER do "lounge wear" but I bought two sets of sloppies from M&S in large sizes, and they are heavenly!

figgygal · 15/09/2011 12:46

Apart from my swimsuit and a couple of tops from mothercare on 3 for 2 and my work mat trousers from DP all my clothes are from ebay and apart from a couple of duff items they are all brill!!

I put my hands on my bump this morning in bed and could feel the heartbeat that was weird!! 28 weeks tomorrow!! am full of the cold can we take anything for colds?

lalababy · 15/09/2011 14:06

figgy paracetamol... other than that no taking any medication without a doctors prescription! Instead... lots of hand washing, steam inhalation, honey/ginger/lemon and rest!

AWCH It is quite funny to think that we are all probably bidding against each other in the maternity clothes ebay wars!!!

Oimissus The lounge wear is the best. As soon as I get home I am either in tracks or in my pjs!

So is a baby shower not done here in the UK? My Aussie friends/sister in law are hosting me one in Oct. Usually they buy all the cutsie impractical things like adult clothes for newborns ... which is great. Coz then I can have my fun without shelling out for it :)

lalababy · 15/09/2011 14:17

Hospital Bag....
I bought the book that AWCH recommended re first time parent and have added the following to my hospital bag list

  1. plastic jug to pour on your privates while you pee (apparently reduces the stinging agony)
  2. Food and snacks in case you are hungry for stuff other than hospital stuff
  3. Maternity pads that have a cotton feel
  4. breast pads
  5. change of clothes and 2 sets of undies
  6. super strong pain killers
  7. hot water bottle

What am I missing???

OiMissus · 15/09/2011 16:27

Loads of change for the robbing b'stard carparks? Or do we get special parking? Not been told that bit yet.

Awomancalledhorse · 15/09/2011 16:50

OiMissus, the hospital I might birth at (Queens in Woolwich, still hoping for a home birth) issues those in labour with special passes so they can park for free. Only thing I'm worried about is, when we go to hospital is either of us really going to remember to ask?
Embrace the lounge wear! DH is taking me shoppping this weekend for some lounge wear, more exicited than when we went engagement ring shoppping!

London, Shock I forgot they were considered term from 37 not 40! Which would make it 11wks for me , I think everyone I know will probably end up with Amazon gift vouchers this year!

Figgy, I've just been drinking hot honey & lemon like it's going out of fashion (which reminds me need to book flu jab, you too reader! Pevlic floor exercises whilst you're at it!).

Lala, sounds great, If I were to have one, it would be like yours, impractical gifts plz! I'm not a celebration person (don't celebrate my birthday, hate the attention) so the idea of a party designed for people to bombard me with gifts, questions & tummy rubs isn't my idea of fun.
Have you found the First Time Parent book to be helpful? My DH keeps on reading, re-reading, panicking, re-reading, think it will be very useful!

I'd add more change, just incase OH/anyone you bring with you wants hot food from the canteen/cafe.

FairyBayleaf · 15/09/2011 21:43

Yikes! You're all super organised!! I hadn't even thought about my hospital bag yet!

I've only got things organised that friends have given me, oh and a bath set we bought last week. Thinking I better get writing my lists... Hmm

Finding it quite hard to work out what's absolutely necessary and what isn't. I don't fully trust the lists in Mothercare etc - suspect they're trying to make me buy stuff!! Wink

mopsytop · 16/09/2011 08:17

Nor me Fairy. Haven't even picked up my free bits from friends yet apart from pram and sling. Have basically nothing. But there are 3 months left! There are some good threads on here to know what is necessary. I'd go by them rather than Mothercare list - the info on the threads is from experienced mums with no vested interest!

Had a migraine yesterday - ugh :( Still feeling less than fab but at least can function today.

OP posts:
lalababy · 16/09/2011 11:13

Fairy I wouldn't worry at all. My hospital bag list... is exactly that... a list! Its not like I actually have any of those things or packed a hospital bag! Kri5ty had a pretty good list from a thread she put up. if you go back a few pages there should be a link.

Also.. realised that since I don't have a car... maybe I should do a dry run to the hospital in a taxi to work out how long it takes! Till now I have been tubing it from work!

I have a bloody headache as well. Sitting in the office trying not to strangle anyone!

Also having a minor housewarming tomorrow and realised that I don't have enough glasses etc!

Awomancalledhorse · 16/09/2011 12:51

Sorry that everyone seems to be having migraines & headaches! Hope everyone feels better for the weekend, what has everyone got planned?

Fairy, we sort of fell into being organised (bought things we've been planning on getting, because they were going really cheap/given to us, so far we've got; clothes, buggy, baby seat, moses basket & a sling. We just need to get nappies & I want to get a bouncer), when you think about it a newborn baby doesn't need much, and the shops will always be there so it doesn't matter how much you have as long as you've got some clothes, nappies, milk, somewhere to sleep & a way to get it around town/home from hospital in the first few weeks.
Trying to reassure myself I haven't forgotten anything major! Grin

Is this worth phoning the MW over; I've not gained any weight in 3 weeks (26wks), however I have already gained 20lbs (and all the calculators say I should aim for 25-35lbs over entire pg). Should I be worried?
