Brewing a March baby!

Hello! I've just found out that I'm pregnant and due on the 23rd March! I'm 29 and live in London with my husband, dog and cat. So far at 4 weeks things are going very smoothly! I'm very excited about going to the doctor (even if they don't care) as feel it will make things more real!
If you're expecting in March too please join the thread and share a bit about yourself and how your pregnancy is going!

Totally get it feekerry! I'm planning a homebirth anyway but then would quite like a week just the three of us where we can stay in bed/in our PJs, eat oven food and take aways and bond with each other. Then other people can come over (for time-limited cuddles) luckily I think everyone will understand this. Is there anyway you can approach MIL and say that you're really happy and excited that she's so excited, she's going to be an awesome granny etc. and great that she's going to take some annual leave to spend with the baby, could she perhaps wait until baby is X (2,3,4?) weeks old as you'd like it to be real quality time where you and she can go for walks with the baby etc. you don't think you'll feel up to that at first and (if BF) the first few weeks are really going to be about you and baby establishing feeding etc. you could suggest that short visits are okay during this time but can she save her days off so you can really make the most of the time together?

yes carlita i think i'll just have to be firm. She's the type who will turn up and hospital even if we tell her not to, or come home to find her waiting outside. i'm just really dreading it.
do you think it is reasonable for grandparents to visit for say an hour but not hold the baby? is it unreasonable of me to say come over for a quick visit but i'd rather you didn't hold/disturb the baby.
whenever i've visited family/friends who've had babies i've never ever asked to hold them. i'd always wait until i was invited to hold them and if i'm not then thats fine by me.
i've actually been having nightmares about her holding the baby. Sad

Carlitawantsababy · 26/11/2011 15:06

Sounds like a nightmare! I think she may see it as unreasonable if she can't hold the baby. See how you feel about it at the time and if you do feel that way you'll just have to be honest. You could always say that you know it might sound unreasonable but that you're just not ready for anyone to hold the baby yet but you're sure that'll soon wear off and you'll be phoning her to come to take him/her out, inject a bit of humour and make it clear it's nothing against her. Good you're getting it sorted out in your head now. Smile

She does sound rather intense, feekerry- I'd be firm re: the hospital if you're worried about that. Once you're back home could she come and visit and you leave DP & her with the baby while you take a bit of time to yourself and go to have a bath or something, so you don't have to necessarily have to all be on top of each other?

broodylicious · 27/11/2011 20:17

Oooh bit tricky this one feekerry :/

Have you spoken to your DP about it seeing as it is his mum? If he feels differently to you, it could be even worse?

My personal feeling is that while I know I'm going to be ultra protective of my baby (i cant stand people who rub MY bump because they think they can!) both grandparents on both sides have been very supportive and are totally delighted for us so I want to share our happiness with them. If that means them being a little overbearing for the first few weeks, I'm happy to take it as it's their happiness too.

Moffit · 28/11/2011 14:36

I know how you feel feekerry. I only want it to be me, my husband and the baby for the first few days, so we can bond together and so I can establish breast feeding without being interupted by visitors.

However, I dont think my mum will appreciate no visitors.........she was at the birth of my sisters two children, and we haven't yet approached the subject with her. I hope that she doesn't assume she will be present at the birth of my baby too. I think I will have to allow the parents to come and visit at least.

Just to answer your earlier question carlita I think the third trimester starts from the 26th week. Someone else might say differently, as it appears there is plenty of info stating anything from 25-28 weeks.

Carlitawantsababy · 28/11/2011 16:29

Wasn't me re third trimester but I remember that someone asked. I didn't answer as there seems to be a lot of discrepancy! I will see what my book and apps tell me! DH and I have a weekly update each Friday to learn what the wee man is doing for the coming week. Smile

broodylicious · 28/11/2011 21:25

Ooh where do you get your weekly updates from carlita? I have an email from Emma's Diary every Sunday and it's fab. I also have a brill app called what to expect.com - it gives daily tips/advice and a longer one for the week. I love reading what our baby is doing Grin so if theres any more apps or emails I'm not already getting, I'll sign up haha! xx

Carlitawantsababy · 28/11/2011 21:42

Ooh! Joining Emma's diary! We use 'baby pregnancy tracker' and 'what to expect' apps and 'your pregnancy week by week' book. It's fascinating isn't it? DH finally felt baby kick tonight, he's getting stronger! Grin

Hi everyone,

Coming up to 24 weeks on Thursday- this seems like a big milestone for me- isn't it the time when the baby is treated as potentially 'viable' if it is born very early? Fingers crossed we all go full term, of course!

And good news from my sister who got engaged yesterday- we're all very happy- the wedding will probably be next September. Hope I can cope with a six month old baby on the day & may have to invest in some serious structural undergarments!

KikiRC · 29/11/2011 09:38

Oh, and I meant to say- with my hands on my tummy last night I felt a very definite kick from a pointy foot or elbow etc, rather than a general unidentifiable movement. V exciting!

Moffit · 29/11/2011 12:48

My husband felt the baby move for the first time on Sunday night, I felt so happy for him to finally feel it, as I have been chatting on about it for the last few weeks! Smile

feekerry · 29/11/2011 12:49

Thank you everyone. Partner knows how over bearing she can be so no problems there. Suppose i'm just used to how my family do things. My mum is super chilled out, wouldn't dare but in or interfere but at the same time is excited and supportive of everything we decide where as his mum, well, its her way or the high way type of thing. It just really winds me up thats all! Anyways, anyone else feeling movements higher up now? I saw one yesterday way up past no belly button. eek!x

Carlitawantsababy · 29/11/2011 18:02

Oh yes kiki it is 24 weeks, how exciting! I'm 24 weeks on Friday, bring it on!
I'm feeling movements higher up now too, higher than (still inny) belly button! I can feel him most of the time now which is just lovely, very reassuring isn't it? Smile

knitterati · 30/11/2011 21:25

Hey, sorry for the silence from me... Having a horrid time at work & redundancy (see other march thread for the depressing & gory details).
All going well with baby, but I now have a cold to contend with...so lots of honey & lemon drinks for me. Any ideas if olbas oil tissues are safe to use?!

How's everyone else? Bumps a growing? No outtie bellybutton for me yet, but it's not got far to go!

broodylicious · 30/11/2011 22:00

Yes, I'm 24 weeks on Sunday and it does feel like a decent milestone Smile
I've been feeling kicks for a good few weeks and my tummy actually moves when he/she is having a wrestle around... But sadly baby goes all shy when I tell DH to look! It's quite funny for me as I feel it often now but I do feel sorry for him because he wants to see and feel Sad Hopefully soon...

Carlitawantsababy · 01/12/2011 08:29

Sorry to hear that knitterati Sad
Smile good news broody that's lovely. I haven't seen any movements yet but feel him most of the time. He's naughty too, as soon as DH speaks to him or puts his hand on me he goes still (apparently they can tell whose hand it is?!) it's like he's a little shocked, it's funny. DH not Sad about it yet but will be lovely when he gets to feel him a bit more regularly! Grin

Just had 24-week midwife appt and all seems well - heartbeat 144. Got to go back in two weeks for blood test, as I have to have the anti-D injection in four weeks.

She also measured the bump vertically and said it was a good size - 23. I have no frame of reference for what this means, though!

DH has felt the baby move several times - it totally freaks him out though! He says it makes his toes curl :)

Wordweaver · 01/12/2011 11:29

Oh, and the baby gave a doppler a real wallop while the midwife was listening! Didn't care for the procedure, obviously . . . made her jump.

broodylicious · 01/12/2011 11:38

Aaah wordweaver! A fellow anti d-er! I've got mine beginning of January. Have you heard anything about it from any other rhesus neg women? My sister was fine with hers but she did say the needle is huuuuge! :o

Wordweaver · 01/12/2011 11:48

Oh blimey, don't say that! No, I haven't heard anything else about it. My usual approach with injections is on no account to look at the needle. Mine's probably going to be somewhere between Christmas and new year. If so, I expect DH will be able to come with me (although that might make me more likely to cry like a weedy wet).

I did have to have a whopper of a needle inject something into my face once, and that wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.

I will let you know how it goes though!

Carlitawantsababy · 01/12/2011 14:42

Good stuff word! I know your bump is supposed to measure approx how many weeks you are so 23 for 24 is great. Where do thy measure from/to? Smile

OP posts:
Wordweaver · 01/12/2011 15:05

From the top of the pubic bone to the top of the uterus. Midwife just pressed around a bit to find the top of the uterus. And told me that it is a Bad Thing to cross my legs. Which is a sod, because I do it all the time. Another thing goes down on the list of stuff not to eat/drink/do/think . . .

Carlitawantsababy · 01/12/2011 16:00

Crossing legs can cause unstable pelvis. You don't want that, take it from me! I can't measure myself then as don't know what a uterus feels like strangely enough! Grin
