Hello! I've just found out that I'm pregnant and due on the 23rd March! I'm 29 and live in London with my husband, dog and cat. So far at 4 weeks things are going very smoothly! I'm very excited about going to the doctor (even if they don't care) as feel it will make things more real!
If you're expecting in March too please join the thread and share a bit about yourself and how your pregnancy is going!

That's awful feekerry! I totally agree re measurements too, my friend was induced at 38 weeks as they said her baby was over 10 lbs and he was born at 8lbs, very normal! Is your friend very small? 9lbs not usually a reason for a c section?

broodylicious · 14/11/2011 13:28

Yes I agree with comments re measurements and taking them with a pinch of salt - my sister was forced to go to hospital for urgent scan as the MW said her DS hadnt grown in the last month... Obviously cue lots of worry. When she went the following day, the sonographer was completely puzzled as he was perfectly normal weight Smile
MW admitted to my sis the next appt "oh sorry I worried you, I'm normally 90% wrong about things like that!" Angry

Carlitawantsababy · 14/11/2011 14:16

My goodness broody! Angry indeed!

ye my friend isn't tall at all so it was quite big for her, plus he had is arm up and stuck so that contributed to the forceps and he really damaged her hence the need for future c section. they were all at her re his 'small' size though and he was rather large so def take it with a pince of salt!!!

KikiRC · 15/11/2011 10:17

Ouch! x

Carlitawantsababy · 15/11/2011 14:12

Ah, makes sense! Smile

hello everyone. hope all is well.

i met a friend today for lunch who is exactly 8 weeks ahead of me, so she's now 30 weeks. my god, it was a bit of a reality check. she looked quite fed up. she is really starting to get uncomfortable. she said it kicked in about 26/27 weeks. she cant turn in bed without getting up and out of bed first and is finding things like driving very uncomfortable. suppose it just brought home what a road ahead we have! suppose at the stage were at now were all still pretty comfortable and neat bumps etc. it did not look comfortable at all!!!!
sorry, just felt the need to share my concern!!xx

Carlitawantsababy · 15/11/2011 20:45

It isn't far off now is it feekerry?! 30 weeks sounds so serious too! Smile

Hello Ladies, talking of being fed up, has anyone been suffering with heartburn? I have had it for the last week, and been sick several times in the last few days, I can't eat too much..........I think little and often is the way forward. Someone did mention that it will only get gradully worse the bigger we get! Great!

Carlitawantsababy · 16/11/2011 12:40

I've only had it twice over the last couple of weeks moffit and agree it's awful so can see why you're fed up if it's making you sick Sad my friend had it bad and little and often was definitely the key, also monitor which foods make it worse, hopefully you'll be able to control it!

KikiRC · 16/11/2011 16:29

I had a bit of heartburn the other day, but I think it was more to do with me gobbling my food down in a rush. I'm sure you're all a lot more ladylike than me!

Am beginning to gradually find my bump a little more uncomfortable. Or rather I'm much more aware of it & the movements are more regular throughout the day (they used to be mainly at night with occasional daytime wriggling). I think it may be because my bump is still relatively small, but the baby & uterus are quite big now, it can feel really quite squashed! Has anyone else still only got a modest bump? Mine feels about 3 x as big as it looks...

NorthernGirlie · 16/11/2011 19:17

Heartburn city here too - well, more of an 'acidy' thing (same thing?? never had heart burn before!) Been up since 4am throwing up and I feel like I have an acid ball in my throat - the joys eh?? ;)

My friend at work is 32 weeks (I'm 24) so watching her progress has been interesting - and a tad scary! Good news is she's positively blooming though which is lovely! (and something to aspire to!)

broodylicious · 18/11/2011 19:30

I've had a little heartburn too. And my nausea seems to have returned - not quite back to MS but getting there. Again.

I had yoga again last night. We were asked if we've done our pelvic floor exercises.... Cos basically if we haven't done it three times a day, we will tear in labour!!! Talk about frightening us to death!! BlushSad xx

KikiRC · 18/11/2011 21:56

Eek, Broody! I haven't been doing them at all, because I can never quite work out if I'm doing the right thing. I just found the page in the Pregnancy book from my MW & will start trying harder!

Has anyone been doing the 'Count the Kicks' thing, too (keeping note of the time/ number of kicks/ movements daily) ? Again, it's something I always mean to, but never do formally. The baby moves about & kicks so often that if I'm occupied in something else, I almost don't notice it.

KikiRC · 18/11/2011 21:57

PS- sorry about the nausea coming back, Broody what a pain. Is it definitely not a bug or something? X

feekerry · 18/11/2011 22:42

kiki I have thought about starting the counting the kicks campaign thing as I feel her every day and pretty strongly now but got a bit worried the other day as she had a really quiet day so thats when I wondered about starting to count. But, had a quick chat to midwife and she said start about 28 weeks as up until then they have loads of room and can still hide a bit so she said not to worry about starting now. Have had a quick read up and most books say start counting between 28 and 30 weeks. I can now see the kicks from the outside and my partner felt her kick for the first time from the outside tonight. I was really pleased for him as i'm so used to it now! I'm off to aqua natal swim class tomorrow. The term beached whale comes to mind!! Have a good weekend ladies and ever growing bumps. X

KikiRC · 19/11/2011 09:48

Thanks, Feekerry, the Count the Kicks website said 20 weeks, but 28 weeks seems much more sensible.

I've noticed the kicks getting much higher recently, too- towards my belly button. When I had my scan last week I asked the sonographer how big the feet were and she measured them for me- 3.1cm- quite substantial!

But re: not always feeling the baby, when I had the scan it was gently moving about & I couldn't feel it at all- likewise yesterday when I saw the MW for a quick check-up & she listened to the heartbeat, she said it was moving, I couldn't feel a thing, so it's easy to worry unnecessarily.

Anyway, good luck at aqua natal, and hope you all have a good & sunny weekend. X

Carlitawantsababy · 19/11/2011 09:54

Poor you broody, that's not on! I think I have done pelvic floor every day but what did she mean by three times? Not three squeezes obviously, that would be far too easy!
kiki in aqua natal class the instructor explain how to feel your pelvic floor by getting you to sit astride one of those long tube floats on your Knees and cough, hard. The muscles that touch the float as you cough are your pelvic floor, maybe try something similar? The normal way of explaining it is saying it's the muscles that stop the flow when you are weeing but guess you've heard that one?
I will look in to the count the kicks thing, haven't heard of it. My little 'un is still quite changeable in his movements, good to hear that's normal. Hoping DH may be able to feel him this weekend. Grin

broodylicious · 19/11/2011 13:47

Carlita - she means to do a full set (10 of each exercise) three times a day. I do one set always on my long drive to work as that's when baby moves quite a bit most days so it's easy to remember Wink I'm sure our instructor didn't mean to frighten us but it did make it all real thinking about things like tearing and stitches Sad

We do anus squeezes, then as you say the muscle that stops you weeing, then the whole pelvic bowl (imagine squeezing those weeing muscles in and up). For all, its squeeze and release, no holding on for dear life for seconds or minutes. Blimey, bit Blush as I've written that!

I keep having moments where i think "omg, im going to be a mother!!" Like some of the yoga exercises we do I can really imagine using on the day and when she says about the actual birth. She's also fab at reminding us that we've all got little miracles growing in our tummies Smile (my little miracle is currently doing football practice in my tummy!)

DorcasGailen · 21/11/2011 14:42

Had another scan today. Interestingly heartbeat had gone up to 149bpm from 139bpm and it turns out I am having a little girl! Am feeling her kick loads now which is lovely.
Was watching a programme on walrus' and elephant seals yesterday, watching them flop about reminded me of my attempts to turn or get out of bed! Very elegant!
Hope everyone had a nice weekend.

broodylicious · 21/11/2011 17:04

Haha dorcas - I'm with you on the seal front!! My bump seems to be growing noticeably on a daily basis now and although it's lovely, sleep wise it's disturbing me every time I turn over. I never thought at 22 weeks I'd be like this!

Glad your scan went well. Was there an issue last time to go again? I have to have another at 34 weeks because my placenta is low lying - which means no natural birth if it stays there Sad hopefully it'll move like the sonographer predicted.

Carlitawantsababy · 21/11/2011 18:16

Yay! Congratulations dorcas on your little girl! How exciting! Grin

OP posts:
DorcasGailen · 21/11/2011 18:45

broody No there was no issue other than we couldn't see what sex the baby was at the 20 week scan as she kept her back to us. Where I live you get scanned every 4 weeks if you want and only costs the equivalent of £20.
It will be nice to see your baby again at 34 weeks as they are more or less fully grown then arent they? They would just be putting on weight at that point. Stilll a few weeks off for things to change so fingers crossed your placenta moves into a better position!
Thanks Carlita I am very excited!

feekerry · 21/11/2011 20:02

woohoo dorcas! another girl- join me on pink team!! Grin

yep i look like a sea creature too, tho i must say i'm not that uncomfortable. still sleep really well and can turn okay. but my belly button has popped out which i find a bit gross!

aqua natal was okay. didnt do too much other than lollop around in the pool. still, nice to get out and about in that lovely maternity costume!!

does anyone know when the third trimester starts out of interest???
xx

Carlitawantsababy · 21/11/2011 20:25

feekerry I'm so Envy! I really want my belly button to pop and not convinced it's going too Sad
