Hello! I've just found out that I'm pregnant and due on the 23rd March! I'm 29 and live in London with my husband, dog and cat. So far at 4 weeks things are going very smoothly! I'm very excited about going to the doctor (even if they don't care) as feel it will make things more real!
If you're expecting in March too please join the thread and share a bit about yourself and how your pregnancy is going!

really carlita? they coat babies clothes in something to make them smell nice? Shock thats a bit worrying!!!!

broodylicious · 10/11/2011 21:03

Thanks for your kindness ladies. It's been a tough few days but starting to feel a bit brighter now.
Had yoga tonight - feel so relaxed right now I could literally zzzzzzzzz standing up!! Baby got very active during the breathing exercises - made me giggle actually as that's just like our families, getting all noisy/wriggly when we should be quiet/still! I do find my yoga breathing helpful (I take a few moments when I go to the loo to do my breathing) so hoping it'll be good for labour. Fingers crossed!! Xxx

Carlitawantsababy · 10/11/2011 23:21

feekerry it is nothing particularly sinister, it's a treatment called 'sizing' which is put on clothes to make them look nice in the shop, otherwise they'd get grubby during shipping, I just mean that is that 'new clothes' smell. Some babies can have allergic reactions to the 'sizing' treatment so worthwhile washing IMO. Grin

Yoga sounds good broody, I'd like to try that. Good that your baby's enjoying it too! Mine's been super active today which is just great as he was so quiet yesterday he was starting to worry me a bit!

kiki quick question, is your maternity care through the conquest? Just thinking as I now have a moving date (December 14th) I need to transfer my maternity care and just wondered if you have community midwives like me and if the conquest is the place to contact? Can't find any decent info online. Good luck for today, have a wonderful scan! Grin

Hi broody glad to hear that you are feeling a bit better, and that your scan went well! The Yoga classes sound bliss, think I may have to take those up myself.

My scan was amazing........we saw our little baby playing with its hands and drinking the amniotic fluid. All is going well and the measurements were all on the average line.......except for the femur (thigh bone) which was showing above average, so I think its gonna be tall like its daddy (he's 6ft 4).

Sounds like your move is coming along quickly carlita, hope all goes well!

KikiRC · 11/11/2011 14:37

Hello ladies, the scan was all fine and it's a....... baby! It spent most of the time on it's tummy with it's head buried into my bladder (I had to go and walk around twice & eat/ drink to get it to move into a different position) and the sonographer said although she couldn't see any 'dangly bits' she wouldn't like to say for certain... But so pleased it's all OK that I don't really mind not knowing.

Glad yours went OK, too Moffit ! Have we all had our second scans now?

Carlita- yes, I'm at the Conquest, and it's all been pretty good up there so far. My community MW has a clinic two half days a week at my GP's surgery, I was transferred to her through my GP. But I think if you phoned the hospital they could help, too. The main number is: 01424 755255 & ask to speak to the Frank Shaw ward- that's maternity. My MW is Claire Weston, she's v nice, I'm not sure how many community MWs there are, but everyone I've spoken to so far seems to have had her. My GP surgery is at Roebuck House (there are about 3 separate surgeries in the same building) on the High St in the Old Town. I don't know how far the catchment is for there, but friends on the West Hill & a bit beyond seem to be registered there. Otherwise there's a brand new big surgery 'Station Plaza' right by Hastings Station. X

glad it went well kiki and glad its a ...... baby!!!!x

Carlitawantsababy · 11/11/2011 20:55

Excellent kiki Grin what brilliant news, glad is all good with baby! Thanks for the advice too! Grin

Thanks, ladies.

How were your measurements BTW? My baby has a big head, a tiny abdomen, average length legs & poor coordination (one of the brain measurements) according to our readings! If you knew my DP you'd appreciate how funny this is- there's no doubting it's his! It's quite low weight compared to average, but then DP & I are pretty skinny, so hopefully that's nothing to worry about. X

Carlitawantsababy · 11/11/2011 23:06

Grinhaha! Ours is above average head (both measurements) at 75th percentile, 75th percentile for abdomen and about 35th for leg length. Again, just like his daddy! Grin

Hi Kiki glad your scan went well. Just out of interest how much did your baby weigh? I dont know what the average should be at this time, so not sure if mine is skinny or fat! lol Smile

Carlitawantsababy · 12/11/2011 08:52

Good point moffit I don't know either but assuming ours will be fairly big, we were both 9lb babies! Grin

OP posts:
Moffit · 12/11/2011 09:12

Did they give you the weight of your baby at the scan carlita?

KikiRC · 12/11/2011 10:57

Hi Moffit- my (estimated) fetal weight- based on calculations was 13 ozs (I was 21+1 on the day I had it done). This was about a quarter position on the centile chart. I spoke to my dad, a retired GP, & he said not too worry too much. I was a bit anxious that maybe I hadn't been eating enough (my bump is pretty small). However, judging by the amount of kicking going on, and everything else looking OK, it's probably just a bit skinny like us.

I was a 8lb7oz baby (but two weeks late) so always assumed mine LO would be quite sizeable. DP was quite small, but born 3 weeks early. His DS (now 7) was born on time at 7lb. I'll probably have a word with the MW next week when I see her, just for a bit of reassurance & maybe try to eat a bit more protein in the meantime...

Moffit · 12/11/2011 11:22

Thanks kiki mine was also estimated at 13ozs and I was 20+5, so maybe that is average then? I looked online but kept finding different information and wasn't sure what average was at this stage.

Has anyone else got their estimated weights, that they'd like to share?

KikiRC · 12/11/2011 11:53

I really wouldn't worry too much, Moffit- yours was a few days earlier than mine, too. From my understanding up until now it's all been about the baby growing it's limbs/ organs/ bones etc- and now it's got to that stage and is all in proportion the remaining months are about growing bigger and developing fat & muscle etc. My sonographer certainly didn't say she was worried about the weight/ abdominal size, she seemed perfectly happy with everything. It reassured me speaking to my dad, too. X

broodylicious · 13/11/2011 08:35

Yeah ours is estimated at 13oz too and I was 20 + 1 on Monday when we were scanned so sounds as though that's average. The sonographer was lovely and said everything is growing as it should be, all in proportion and average, so I'm not worried. Leicester is a teaching hospital so we had a student in with us but it was nice to hear the sonographer explaining things to her.

I haven't quite put a stone on yet - thats due to fabbo MS in those first 18 weeks! How is everyone else's weight coming on? we spend all our lives trying to be slim then stressing ourselves in these nine months about putting enough on! Wink

Carlitawantsababy · 13/11/2011 08:51

Definitely wouldn't worry ladies, I was 20 weeks and weight was estimated at 343 g, google says that is 12 oz and sonographer said everything was perfect; my bump is huge and all his measurements apart from the femur are larger than average. Grin
I haven't been weighing myself, I don't own scales. Smile

OP posts:
KikiRC · 13/11/2011 09:49

I don't have scales, either! I was weighed when I first saw the MW at about 6 or 7 weeks (when I don't think I had put on any 'baby' weight at all). When I stayed with my parents a couple of weeks ago I weighed myself there and seemed to be exactly the same weight, despite the small but noticeable bump (approx 19 weeks). I was a bit puzzled, but I think I probably lost a bit of weight when I had the nausea & morning sickness, which I have since put back on.

I will speak to my MW next Fri when I see her, but I think everyone's just different- some people put on loads of weight, some very little- unless it's too extreme in either direction the baby should be absolutely fine.

feekerry · 13/11/2011 14:06

um i know ours is on the small side at present, they said that to me at the scan. still within the normal ranges but small, think its alot to do with me having hypermesis and losing so much weight. think her weight was just over 11oz. her head was just on the normal scale and all other measurements were below the middle of the normal scale. i also am still one stone lighter than the day i found out was i was pregnant so not surprising really!

Carlitawantsababy · 13/11/2011 14:20

Yes feekerry not surprising but great that she's still within the normal range despite you losing so much weight, that's pretty good going! Smile

OP posts:
KikiRC · 13/11/2011 17:03

I hope you're feeling a lot better now, Feekerry? You had a terrible time didn't you? If you're within the normal ranges you're doing really well- let's hope it's all much easier from here on. X

feekerry · 13/11/2011 20:18

i'm STILL on the anti sickness drugs.. if i stop taking them i start being violently sick within about 4 hours! at 22 weeks i'm still sick nearly once every couple of days even tho i'm on the medication. unbelieveable really but i can eat pretty much everything now so its not too bad. i'm taking the measurements lightly to be honest as they said to my best friend she was having a small baby, gave her extra growth scans as he was small etc etc. he was a forceps delivery at 9lbs and she'll prob need a c section for any other babies as he was so big so i'm taking it with a pinch of salt!!!!!

KikiRC · 13/11/2011 21:59

Oh, Feekerry, hope it clears up soon- my friend's bad MS disappeared mysteriously at about 24 weeks... there's still hope!

I agree with you re: measurements. They just use the abdominal measurement to estimate weight, so it's all guesswork really.
