Hello! I've just found out that I'm pregnant and due on the 23rd March! I'm 29 and live in London with my husband, dog and cat. So far at 4 weeks things are going very smoothly! I'm very excited about going to the doctor (even if they don't care) as feel it will make things more real!
If you're expecting in March too please join the thread and share a bit about yourself and how your pregnancy is going!

xxxxx

knitterati · 07/11/2011 19:16

Carlita glad we're still due date snaps!

Feekery welcome back! If it's any consolation, I hate BT too!! Re MatB1, my midwife wrote mine out during my 16week appt. So just remind yours at the next appt.
Glad you're feeling kicks, but sorry their a bit strong. Maybe you're growing a martial arts god in there? Wink I'm having flutters mid morning & early evening, but nothing identifiable as a definite kick. So lovely & reassuring! Smile

Carlitawantsababy · 07/11/2011 19:20

feekerry! Good to have you back! Smile I was just asking my sis about the matb1 form, you don't get offered one, you have to ask. Your midwife or GP can issue them after 20 weeks. Or, if you are a regular at the hospital like me, you can just ask the community midwives. Grin

Hello, it's lively on here this evening!

I was looking into maternity allowance today (I'm self-employed). I'm seeing the midwife next week, so will pick up the MATB form then. The Maternity Allowance form is 33 pages, including notes! A bit of light reading.

I've hardly bought anything yet, just a few little sleep suits and vests, and a couple of blankets. A family friend is offering to lend their crib, and I'll go pram shopping at some point with my mum. My friend has a 5 month old and highly recommends the Phil & Ted Smart travel system because it's so compact & easy to use. It makes my head spin looking through the catalogues- so having seen hers, I'm tempted to go for something similar- has anyone else had any good recommendations? I want something fairly lightweight and narrow- I've quite an awkward front door!

Carlita & knitterati- I may still be with you on 23rd... I was just wondering, because I was moved back a week at the first scan, even though that throws my conception dates into confusion- I must have ovulated incredibly late. I wondered if they might possible move me forward a bit again. Anyway, I don't suppose it matters too much.

Feekerry- my little one is really bombing about in there, too! Sometimes it feels like an actual somersault.

feekerry · 07/11/2011 21:42

kiki dont talk to me about prams and travel systems. coming from someone who has ZERO idea (and i really mean nada) about these things i'm truly Shock at the complexity of them. in fact, so much so i'm frightened to even look!

KikiRC · 07/11/2011 23:12

Terrifying, aren't they? Enormous complicated beasts, some of them. X

Carlitawantsababy · 08/11/2011 19:37

We're being given a mamas and papas travel system from SiL so don't have to fret over these things! If I had my choice it'd be a mountain buggy urban jungle, they look awesome, just right for country, town, and beach!
Just has fab news! Our offer has been accepted on the house in Hastings so hopefully it'll be ours in 28 days! GrinGrinGrin

Carlitawantsababy · 09/11/2011 21:25

Thanks everyone! Yes indeed, will be in before Christmas as long as it goes smoothly from here on, chuffed to bits. Went to aqua natal tonight for the first time, it was great, made me feel quite normal, nice to do something other than work/laying down in pain! Smile

Hi all. Sorry for delay in this post - had a family death and it was the funeral today so been very SadSadSad these last few days.

But anyway...

Scan went well thanks - we have a proper little person on there! It was really fidgety, wouldnt stay still for long (I could feel him/her starting when we were waiting so had a feeling it'd be off on one for the actual scan!) We had a lovely view of him/her though, practising bowling/tennis/boxing movements Wink - a right little show off haha! All limbs and organs are growing as they should be so all good with the LO.

Only slight concern is the position of the placenta as it's a bit close to my cervix. Although it's not fully over, or even half, it does mean I've got to go back for a scan at 34 weeks to see if it's moved (it's possible as baby gets bigger) - if it hasn't, I may well have to have a c section, which I really don't want (due to recovery rather than fear of the op). Hey ho. If it's better for baby, so be it.

I bought my first baby thing the other day!! It's only a v simple baby gro but I love it - v cute. My mum is busy knitting some really beautiful (and modern) things - she's done the most amazing bootees! Clever grandma Smile

Hope you're all feeling well tonight? Xxx

feekerry · 10/11/2011 08:13

Good news on the scan broody. I've read somewhere that in a lot of cases by 34 weeks most placenta's that are partly covering the cervix move well in time so hopefully yours will!x

Carlitawantsababy · 10/11/2011 08:15

Hi broody! Sorry to hear your sad news Sad but GrinGrinGrin to hear about your baby! That's fab! Great they had a good show off for you, it's amazing seeing them moving around! I know a few people who've had that same worry with the placenta and for all of them it's moved up by the next scan and they've been given the go ahead for a normal birth, I understand that's the case with the majority? Anyway, good to be prepared, and as you say, if it gets the baby out safely that's the main thing! Grin

OP posts:
KikiRC · 10/11/2011 11:13

Sorry to hear about the funeral Broody hope you're OK. Like the others say, I've heard of several people who had a similar thing with the placenta, and it does seem to usually move. If the worst comes to the worst & you did have a CS, I think it's much better to know in advance and plan it all out than an emergency one when you're already exhausted after a long labour. Hopefully it won't come to that anyway.

I just have a few baby gros, too. I keep folding them up, then getting them out to look at them! Can't quite believe it.

Feekerry- I went out for dinner last night and definitely empathise with the 'bungalow' feeling! I think my little one is going through a growth spurt- the bump seemed to double in size yesterday.

Scan tomorrow morning! Could anyone see the sex for themselves or did you have to wait for the sonographer to point it out? X

Carlitawantsababy · 10/11/2011 17:05

kiki I'm so excited for you! Grin I had studied the 'burger in bun' for girls and 'turtle' for boys per scan but it took her to very purposefully position the scanner thing at the correct angle. Once she showed me I recognised it as the turtle and would've done if the scan had been at that angle but it seems you have to have quite a specific view!
That's so nice with your baby grows! I would be doing that too but all the baby stuff is at my mum's as we put all non necessaries in her loft to de clutter the flat whilst up for sale. Got a shipment coming from NI in January which will be very exciting! Not much left to buy, I'm very quick with things like that, as soon as I decide to do something I just do it, no delays, plus I wanted to do my shopping before the car boot season finished! Grin

OP posts:
KikiRC · 10/11/2011 17:37

I'm going to get the giggles now, looking for turtles!

When you get to Hastings, Carlita there are lots of bargains to be had- my particular favourite charity shops are in Bexhill- there are loads. I went with a chum last week and found that most have big bins of tiny baby clothes for about 20p or 30p- some are a bit bobbly and worn, but if you delve through you can find things that look brand new and are really nice. Also got a beautiful soft blanket for 30p. I want to get nice things, but am on a shoestring budget, and people have come out of the woodwork offering to lend all sorts of things- I've been touched at how kind they've been. I bet you can't wait to unpack everything and set up your new home. Fingers crossed it all works out. X

Carlitawantsababy · 10/11/2011 18:05

Thanks kiki and thanks for the tip on bexhill, I shall get over there with my mum! All my bargains so far are in wonderful condition (as you say, you just have to rummage a bit) I got lots of BNWT clothes from bootfair too at 50p an item, genius! I like a bit of bargain hunting and it's better for the budget and the environment!
Sale is properly moving now, we have papers and everything! Grin eek! So excited! Grin

OP posts:
feekerry · 10/11/2011 19:47

good luck kiki
i couldn't and still cant see the sex for myself on the scan. sonographer kept saying 'ooh look, there's her labia (bit of an odd thing to think about!!), or ooh thats her womb etc etc. i have studied the scan pics in detail and cant see what she means!! Best of luck and cant wait to see your report!!!x

question- is anyone washing there new baby clothes??? alot of books seem to reccomend washing first before use but just seems like a waste to me?? what would be the reasoning behind washing everything first? surely its just going to sit in a wardrobe until is used? or am i missing someting

Carlitawantsababy · 10/11/2011 20:44

feekerry you need to wash first as clothes are treated with chemicals during manufacture which coat the clothes (that 'new' smell) as baby's skin is so sensitive you need to do everything in non bio. I have also washed all my eBay and bootfair finds (although all very clean) as I don't know what detergent was used and it just isn't worth a rash on the little one's skin. Smile
