Found out on sunday that were expecting our first baby in march!! Some online due date calculators say the 8th and some say the 10th so im not quite sure which one is right!!

Ive got my 1st doctors appointment tomorrow to confirm things

Has anyone else got the BFP and wants to celebrate?

Tiany - whereabouts are you? I'm SW too....

wElcome Moffit!

Mrs Cog - I would be inclined to share any medical history - you never know what might happen and it might be necessary for them to know. That said, if you are very keen to have a non interventionist birth a meeting with a consultant should enable you to agree that. I'm sure it will be a case of just monitoring you (like any other woman) and if things don't stay as they should then it might not end up being in a MW led unit.

KittyRogue · 14/08/2011 08:57

Welcome Moffit!

Mrs Cog, I agree with Honeymoo, best to let them know straight away.

Well yesterday was interesting! We surprised a friend or his birthday and took him out to a safari park zoo and had a fantastic time, I felt great had loads of energy and kept on top of nausea by eating little and often as always. On the way back to theirs I started to have really bad period pains and really bad wind...

We got back to theirs and oh boy was I ill! I actually threw up! I ended up skipping dinner plans and sleeping whilst the boys were out! After that I had to endure a two hour car ride home, as soon as I got there ended up being sick again!!! Not good!

Here's hoping this isn't a sign of things to come! I hope you don't mind me sharing, just so taken back by how ill I was so suddenly!

ILoveMyDragon · 14/08/2011 19:49

Hi all!

Just tried to post but it errored so hopefully won't post twice!!
Really new to this forum stuff (oh and the pregnancy lark!) so please bare with as I adjust myself!!
I'm due bout 19th March only just braved looking up the online world of baby chatter as was nervous to not jinx it in any way but a gal needs to chat about things and it is still a big secret till after the scan so thought I would come see what was about!

laabama · 14/08/2011 20:52

Evening all. Have updated the stats thing.

Welcome ILoveMyDragon - you've def come to the right place to chat about things!

Had my parents down for the weekend and told them. They're v excited for us. Glad I've finally told them.

8+4 today. Am now officially doing better than I was last time around. Hurrah!! Fingers crossed for the next few weeks for all of us. xxx

FlipFantasia · 14/08/2011 21:14

Evening ladies

Welcome Moffit and Dragon!

Kitty sounds awful about the sudden onset of being sick! We were also at the zoo today (Whipsnade) and it was great fun. No sickness for me, though quite nauseaous so have to snack little and often, though the tiredness hit me just as we were heading home. Ended up with a nap in the evening!

kirsty sorry to hear about your boss Sad and totally understandable that you feel guilty, though of course you have nothing to feel guilty about.

foots wow to hearing heartbeat at 7 weeks! That's amazing and I wouldn't even have thought it was possible with the womb being still behind the pubic bone...with DS they couldn't even hear it at 13 weeks with a doppler and assured me they don't start checking with a doppler until 16 weeks because it's often so tricky to hear (I had just had to have my 16 week app early due to holidays). Having said that, today I was sitting in the car today thinking I could feel flutterings which I know probably isn't the baby yet (am only 8+2) but it made me excited for the lovely stage of feeling the movements.

Honeymoo my EDD changed to 23rd March, so no longer EDD buddies Grin. Though I went 2 weeks over with DS and am trying not to get too attached to my EDD this time. Am telling people I'm due late March/early April to try and stop all the annoying "So, are you in labour yet?" texts I got last time!

Big waves to everyone else. Hope all are doing well Smile

I had my booking in app on Friday evening. It was fine, though it was the same midwife who booked me in last time which brought back some memories of the MC. And wasn't helped by the fact that she couldn't work the electronic system, which wasn't allowing her to register this pregnancy as my last pregnancy was still active. I ended up figuring out how to shut it down myself (by registering my own MC Hmm and then registering this pregnancy - and I am the least techy person going!) as it was an evening appointment so no clerks around, just other midwives going "oh, gosh, I have no idea how to do that" and me sitting there going "but, er, surely it's not this uncommon". Am just so glad that I had a good scan last week, as if I hadn't then I reckon I'd have been a total bag of cats after that appointment!

I'm very jealous of all of you due in early March - with DS I was due 2 March and you're practically into the second trimester by now. I still feel like I've ages until the NHS scan on 9th September. Oh well, we're off to the States for 2 weeks holidays before it so am sure that will help time to fly!

Me too foots, was lying on DS's bedroom floor making snoring noises to try and get him to go to sleep (weird but it works!) and I had my hands on tum then i realised I also can feel a bump where my uterus must have popped up.. Very exciting. Also have a new symptom which I never had with DS either but I finally have some boobies! DH is loving this one. I did get them when I BF DS but then they were very much a no- go area, far too sore.

FootsFirst · 14/08/2011 22:47

Awww reallea how lovely!!!! You sound so happy!

MakkaPakkasWilly · 15/08/2011 15:04

so guess what

on thursday, GP receptionist told me I had to attend the diabetes clinic.
On friday, I called up to get the rest of my results, and they said I got the all clear.
I said 'what about the diabetes?'
'What diabetes?'
'The diabetes you told me I had'
'You don't have it...hmmm'

'No. You don't have it. Looks like we made a mistake, very sorry'

How irritating Makka. All that stress and worry for absolutely nothing. I guess the positive thing is that you don't have diabetes.

Foots - well done you for checking the drugs online before taking them and for telling the GPs they're wrong.

It's crazy that they can get such simple things wrong isn't it? Especially when they are things that can cause unnecessary stress or medication.

I'm now into my 4th week off work. GP signed me off for another fortnight this morning. I'm so bloody bored!!!

MrsCog · 15/08/2011 19:36

Hi everyone, I agree - terrible that they seem to get such simple things wrong at drs!

Saw the acorn on Sat at private scan - all was looking good, and they said that the risk now is as low as it gets, so me and DH have started telling people.

No sign of any bump but still fat and bloated, hoping I don't get weighed at booking in next week seeing as it's in my house and I don't have scales! Or am I being naive and will the MW bring some with her?

shagging that sounds miserable :( have you got a book pile or anything to get through? podcasts?

zebedeethezebra · 16/08/2011 11:26

Depressing weighing myself this morning. I've put on 4 pounds already and I'm 8 weeks tomorrow.

I checked my diary that I kept with DS and I put on 4 pounds in the whole of the first trimester last time! At this rate I'll be the size of a house soon!

Off to the see the MW this afternoon.

shagging time to order some DVD box sets on express delivery from Amazon? Smile

Chulita · 16/08/2011 12:36

zebedee any chance of that chocolate courgette cake recipe (it was you that made it right?)

makka that's shocking, way to make you worry for nothing Hmm

foots well done for not swallowing everything they give you and tell you to take. It's awful what they suggest sometimes seemingly without giving it a second's thought.

shagging knitting? I taught myself last year and would love some free time to finish DD's wraparound top (before she grows out of it).

mrsCog that's lovely that you saw your little acorn Grin I'm trying to change my scan date cos we're away the week they've arranged it but no one's answering my calls [frustrated]

I too feel fat and bloated, I'm going to be huge again this time. I'm deluding myself into thinking that come the 2nd trimester when I don't feel nauseous all the time I'll actually start pilates or something.

zebedeethezebra · 16/08/2011 13:42

Chulita Yes, that was probably it! And we keep having too many visitors at weekends this August so I keep making more yummy cakes and puddings!

Chulita · 16/08/2011 13:49

Argh! I wasn't accusing the cake of helping you put on weight, I was asking you for the recipe I'd love the recipe if possible

kirsty12321 · 16/08/2011 15:39

Chulita and zebedee I also feel so massive! Am 10+4 today and I've put on 4lbs Sad I'm hoping it will stay at that for a few weeks but think that might be wishful thinking!

shagging I hope your feeling better and back at work soon Smile not long to go until your out the first trimester so hopefully things will settle down then? Smile

In my news partner has started to come round to the idea of being a daddy (i think?!) we have both our email accounts signed in on the iPad and I noticed he'd signed up to 'your baby is doing this at 10 weeks' type email and he's asked me
How big kumquat and a fig are after seeing these are the apparent measurements of how many weeks I am!

Got my scan letter through for thursday 25th, when I'll be 11+6 so perfect timing for starting to tell people if everything is ok in there!
Luckily I've got this week and next off so I hopefully won't be feeling too guilty with regards to my boss when I return, I'm going to try not to mention anything pregnancy related to her unless she asks cause I don't want to upset her!

Finally! I'm feeling a lot lot better this week, sickness and nausea have died off (fingers crossed!) still shattered but my constipation and bald patches seem to also of disappeared Smile

Hope your all well Smile

zebedeethezebra · 16/08/2011 16:32

Chocolate Courgette Cake

120g butter (softened)
125ml sunflower oil
100g caster sugar
200g soft brown sugar
3 eggs, beaten
130ml milk
350g plain flour
2 tsp baking powder
4 tbsp cocoa
450g courgettes, peeled and grated finely
1 tsp vanilla

Line a 20x35cm baking tray with baking parchment and set the oven to 190 C / Gas mark 5. Mix the butter, oil and both sugars together until light and fluffy. Gradually add the eggs, one at a time and then the milk until mixed thoroughly. Sift the dry ingredients together and fold into the mixture. Stir in grated and peeled courgettes vanilla and spoon into tin. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes. Cut into squares whilst still warm.

Make sure you use a relatively low tin ? don?t try to make it in a high cake tin as the inside will not cook...

zebedeethezebra · 16/08/2011 16:35

I'm working from home today and the nanny's here, so I've just gone into the kitchen and she has been baking with DS and there is a big tray of buns in the oven! Yum yum, more weight gain Grin

I'm going on a serious diet after this pregnancy has finished.

Saw MW earlier. They now do nuchal scans here (I had to pay for it with DS) on the NHS, but she recommends the private one again as it includes an additional blood test and is therefore more accurate. It is £180. I would be interested to have your thoughts on whether its worth it. I'm mightily worried about foetal abnormalities since I'll be 45 once the baby is born. I keep thinking that I struck lucky with DS and its all going to go belly up this time. Hmm

thanks zebedee!

We're not ones for doing extra testing cos tbh we wouldn't do anything if it turn up something horrible, it would just give us a heads up but we wouldn't terminate. I think it's just something you have to decide for yourself, not a huge difference between 85% and 95% but then it depends how important it is for you to know. If you're really worried and want to know then £200 isn't the end of the world price-wise

ShaggingProducesResults · 16/08/2011 17:52

Zebedee/foots. Its crap how the NHS isn't consistent in the tests that they offer across the country. You'd think that these would be considered pretty damn important.

I'm in the lucky position of getting the combined screening test on the NHS where I live. I think it's quite a good area for maternity care though (even if the ratio of midwives to pregnant women is one of the worst in the UK)

I think if the combined one wasn't offered then I'd think about having it privately but it's a really personal choice. Without wishing to offend (sorry if it does!) as your age means you are at an increased risk then if I were in your position I would probably have the private combined test for piece of mind.

I also feel huge! The batteries in my scales have fortunately run out, so I can't weigh. Am in denial about it!! Chulita - I'm also trying to fool myself that I'll start some exercise at some point...

I did think that the nausea was going yesterday and this morning but it returned with a vengeance this afternoon, not really helped by a girl opposite me on the train eating some fishy sushi type thing on the way home. Another case of counting chickens whilst still very much eggs!!! Still, at least I've not been a blubbering wreck again yet.......

9 weeks tomorrow. Roll on the 12!
