Alba is brilliant thanks Val. She is currently snoring on her Daddy's lap Grin.

Sounds scarey for you London girls at the moment. Is it to late to change to a home birth Esk?

Awh! Cuteness COAAF.

No hospital back up plan here Confused am hoping that within the next 48 hours it won't really be an issue. I am lucky in that mine is so central and on such a main road that there are many approaches to it. However the back faces on to Tottenham Court Road, which would be a looters paradise if they started targeting central London. My guess is, if it looked really tough to get to the hospital you could try and go in 'daylight' (I realise parts of Hackney kicked off during the day time) and even if you are not the required dilation I am sure they wouldn't send you home if it were a question of hours as opposed to days. It's all just craziness. Sky News is like a drug at the moment, can't turn it off.

nickelbabe · 10/08/2011 11:01

sounds like you need to plan for an "unplanned HB" Esk Shock

don't worry, everything will be fine.
As long as a midwife can get to you, you'll be fine :)

nickelbabe · 10/08/2011 11:05

anyway, exciting stuff in the nickel household!

Isbn was moving loads yesterday evening, so I tried to get DH to feel it (didn't think he would be able to, because it's hard to predict this stuff!). Anyway, I put his hand on my belly, but he couldn't feel anything, so I put his hand down my skirt Shock (which obviously he made lewd comments about... Hmm )
anyway, after a couple of minutes, there was movement, and he felt it! He said it was a flutter, so don't know whether he only felt a very slight movement or if that's just how he describes it... Then Isbn did it again a couple of minutes after that and he felt that too! Grin
yippee! Grin

Baby2b · 10/08/2011 11:12

That's really exciting Val Grin He should be able to feel it more and more often now. Think it makes it seem far more real.

esk try not to worry. It seems to be settling down and I would just do as suggested and head in early.

Got midwife today so will update later.

Coaf your little one sounds adorable. Smile

Baby2b · 10/08/2011 11:13

Start of message meant for you nickel! baby brain Grin

nickelbabe · 10/08/2011 11:31

thanks B Grin

he didn't react much to it, so I had to prompt him that it was really exciting that he could feel it! HmmGrin

Baby2b · 10/08/2011 14:10

Grin it was only a few weeks ago that dh was watching my stomach move and said, 'that's our baby in there', with big significant look. Bless, it takes a while to sink in Grin

Baby2b · 10/08/2011 18:56

Had midwife appointment today and everything is looking good. Booked for another appointment and a sweep next week Shock

Eskarina · 11/08/2011 07:32

Glad everything is looking good Baby but how on earth are you booked in for a sweep already? What's your EDD? (not at all Envy here at all, no, not at all!) I'm due on Tuesday and such things have not been even mentioned yet.

In other news we actually tried JS last night. My hip gave up at the crucial moment. Very romantic.

Baby2b · 11/08/2011 07:54

Inside my maternity notes it has a list of appointments: 39-40 weeks - midwife appointment/sweep. So when she booked appointment for next week (I will be 39+2 by then) I just asked if it would be done. Cervix might not be low enough, but don't mind being checked. wasn't going to have one, but decided if it helps reduce chance of induction I will go for it.

How far along are you now?

Baby2b · 11/08/2011 07:55

Sorry, just seen you are due Tuesday. When is your next appointment?

Eskarina · 11/08/2011 09:12

On Tuesday morning. I shall be asking for a sweep then and there Grin

Baby2b · 11/08/2011 11:35

Grin I am ready to get this baby on the move. I know time at the end is meant to drag, but feel the 40 week mark is flying round. Barely got into drinking my raspberry tea and jsing just isn't happening. I don't think I will be winning any races!

How is everyone doing? The threads have all been very quiet. Has anyone heard from ttl?

Eskarina · 11/08/2011 12:05

Ditto. If I go overdue I'm going to be going insane! Time has been dragging since I finished work though - this is my 3rd week off and I had most baby things done by the end of the first week (just in case) and other jobs done by the end of last week, so this week is really going slowly. Am going to meet a friend for lunch soon. That's about all I'll do today. Also getting a little Shock at how expensive not being at work is - a coffee with friends here, lunch with NCT group there. All adds up.

Plus my parents arrive on Saturday - they're camping in our town for their annual holiday in anticipation of being here when Squig arrives. I really wanted baby to be here by the time they arrive otherwise I'll be on edge constantly that they'll be a bit too invasive when I'm actually in labour. That's looking rather unlikely now.

Baby2b · 11/08/2011 17:21

I have spent a fortune in the last couple of weeks. The 'this could be the last time for a long time' excuse is making my bank account cry Grin. I think we need these lunches to keep us sane.

nickelbabe · 11/08/2011 17:22

god, i'm glad i've got restraint Grin

I can't spend any money at all.
at all at all.
:(

It's fine, i'll cope

vallinnapod · 11/08/2011 20:36

Evening ladies!

Getting close B2B and Esk!! I am well out of the race thanks to my hiding cervix Grin Feel a lot more relaxed now knowing that it is probably a way off. Does anyone know if you can lose your mucous plug in stages or does it tend to be in one go? TMI but there is more there than normal....!

I have not been busier since starting mat leave Smile. Today I went into work for my leaving lunch and then had a sewing lesson in the arvo. I am with you though - it's expensive not being at work!! Totally with you B2B in that my 'ah, could be the last time in a while' attitude doesn't help!

So tired though. Sleeping so badly at the moment and seem unable to nap :(

cowboylover · 11/08/2011 20:41

Hello all!

My DD is back to normal after the grizzles following her injections and has just started to discover grabbing which is usually boob!
Maternity leave is expensive and now really comfortable and confident BFing I eat out and drink way to many posh coffees!

Sweeps: I think my MW offered at 41 weeks but couldn't do it as still to high (or something like that!)

Be thinking of all the due dates coming up!

Dynababy · 11/08/2011 21:01

Hi all, sorry I've been missing in action for ages!

Things didn't exactly go to plan... so I was induced by pessary on Sunday the 31st and that failed ..so was kept in on the 1st and over the 1st and 2nd given 3 applications of gel to try and start things off ... I started contracting slightly but not enough. I had a total of 6 internals over three days and they could still barely reach my cervix. On the 3rd we decided with the registar who checked me to go for a c section as only other option was 24 hour break and start all over again and was already 42 weeks and everything had failed.

The good bit .. baby Oscar born on the 3rd of August by c-section! A sraping 9lb 2 oz! The midwives told me that they put on 1 oz a day for every day theyare late so would have been 8 lb 2 oz if on time!! He is just adorable! Grin

I was then in hospital recovering for 4 days and got out this week. Everything was going well until I had a lot of pain and bleeding and what turns out to be an infection of the womb so back to hospital and on antibios now so hopefully on the mend! The best thing I can say about all of this is that all the staff at the ERI are amazing, the midwives are angels and the standard of care is exceptional. B2B are you going to ERI?

Sorry self indulgent post, I need to catch up on the rest of the thread but wanted to say what has been going on here. Hope you are all good, there are more imminent arrivals aren't there?? Exciting! Grin

KateeTheBump · 11/08/2011 22:27

I did wonder what had happened to you Dyna! But congratulations on the arrival of Baby Oscar... sounds like it was a stressful week or two, but glad you're back on the even keel Grin

vallinnapod · 12/08/2011 07:37

Congrats Dyna!! Sorry things weren't more straight forward but your post really 'sounds' like you are beaming now Grin

Eskarina · 12/08/2011 08:21

Congrats Dyna. Sorry it didn't go quite as planned but I hope you're well on the road to recovery now. xx

Lovely to hear from you cowboy and glad it all seems to be going well.

I got a free newborn bottle from Avent randomly yesterday. I must have signed up to their baby club and forgotten about it. Not complaining though (even though I intend to bf I reckon it's worth having a couple around)

vallinnapod · 12/08/2011 08:52

LOL Esk - me too! I had to go to the post office to collect it all the while assuming it was my moses basket mattress finally!

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 12/08/2011 09:17

Yay Dyna that wee Oscar (finally) arrived safe and well Grin Though not yay at the failed induction and the infection (ouch!). Hope all goes well for you from now on and that we see you on the Postgrad thread when you feel up to it.

Alba is 6 weeks today. Can hardly believe it!
