awwwwww. :)

congratulations!

Baby2b · 08/08/2011 16:01

Congratulations macaroonmum. Pleased to hear everything is going really well.

I have been struggling with what appears to be the return of my morning sickness Sad. Hoping it is another labour sign . I might be slightly whingey for the next couple of weeks, apologies in advance Smile

For heartburn you can get gaviscon, or equivalent, for free from boots pharmacy counter. They sign you up to their minor ailments scheme, takes 2 mins. Only found this out a couple of days ago, much easier than going to doctors for prescription. To help prevent heartburn don't eat too close to going to bed and sleep as propped up as possible. I get the acid reflux and practically sleep sitting up some nights.

Also on the sleep front, the most important thing is that you get as much sleep as possible. If you lay on your back and it does affect blood flow, your body will naturally make you turn in your sleep. Left side is best (so if awake turn on to this side) but it isn't realistic or good for you to only sleep on that side. The baby isn't experiencing any gravity when you sleep so as long as you are doing kneeling on all fours each day and keeping good posture you shouldn't have any problems. I got myself in a right state about this as I kept waking up on my back and the worry was keeping me awake. I think some pillow companies have taken this left side only idea to the extreme.

nickelbabe · 08/08/2011 17:07

kneeling on all fours? noone's told me about that!

Baby2b · 08/08/2011 17:58

It's worth doing for about 20 mins a day according to Nct (two x ten minutes). Can be on all fours or leaning on birthing ball. Also when sitting try to ensure your knees aren't higher than your hips, so your pelvis is tipped slightly forward. We were shown a pint glass with a spoon in it. If you tilt the glass away from you the spoon slides round, this is what you want the baby to do. Hope that makes sense. If we sit and slouch to much the baby can turn and might do the same (back to back).

I do think that luck has a lot to do with it, but it doesn't hurt to try and help things. When I had really sore hips I spent a lot of time on my birthing ball and kneeling forwards. Think this definitely contributed in getting rid of the pain. I don't want to give you something else to worry about as it's not a science, but more to help you sleep better Smile

There was a better article, but I can't find it. This one kind of covers it:

positioning

vallinnapod · 08/08/2011 18:48

Congrats Macaroon! That's awesome news...although your name is making me crave macaroons!!!

Esk thanks for the concern. I am not a million miles away Shock - I am in Islington - Tottenham is north of that but it's now all kicking off in Hackney (to the East of me) which is a lot closer. I just find it bizarre...the looting is so blatant on the news - people trying on trainers outside JD Sports Shock Your DH should be fine where he is [hug]

Katee I sympathise. I genuinely cannot remember the last time I have an uninterrupted night's sleep :( If it's a two wee night I see that as good Grin

Nickel have you tried a v pillow - tres cheap from Argos. I sleep with one 'leg' of is between my legs and the other 'leg' under my ribs. That way the bump sort of flops on to the bed and isn't raised at all. I find it really comfy - it's a bitch to turn over though Grin As for the heartburn - I am a big fan of Tums but sleeping propped up has helped, although I hate it - normally sleep very flat.

Good MW check, although my naughty baby is now only 1/5 engaged as opposed to the 2/5 he was two weeks ago - although apparently it's very subjective and as it was a different MW from 2 weeks ago. Also, I asked about being tested for Group B strep which they don't do here, the MW told me to go to the MFAU and say I thought my waters were leaking - they will then do a swab which I can ask for them to test for GBS at the same time, a tip for anyone else wanting to get tested Grin

Baby2b · 08/08/2011 19:24

Val just watching the news now. It makes me so angry and quite emotional. So many local businesses and homes being ruined by youths jumping on the chance to cause havoc. Angry

Eskarina · 08/08/2011 22:07

Congrats Macaroon

It's all insane, and such opportunist mindless violence and blatant theft. My brother's in Islington and doing his best to keep a low profile. He can see smoke coming over from Hackney from his flat window Sad. He's OK though. And I've heard from DH that he's on his way home having had a quiet night at his conference. Still mad at him for going though. Irrational I know as clearly it's well away from trouble and lots of people live among all the goings-on. But I'm still cross! Tried all sorts to induce labour today mostly so he wouldn't be able to go. I can report that despite my NCT leaflet, using a breast-pump to stimulate nipples does not work but it does bloody hurt.

vallinnapod · 08/08/2011 22:54

I am finding it very weird. I can't make the connect that the pictures on TV are literally just down the road. I really cannot believe the cheek of the looters or the mentality of the rioters. WTF do they think they are achieving? Very much hoping they are all caught via CCTV over the next few weeks.

Eek on the breast pump stimulation! Was thinking of trying that myself...may give it a miss....

KateeTheBump · 09/08/2011 08:44

Congratulations macaroonmum! Smile funny, I was just thinking about you yesterday (thinking you were due about now), and then you popped up!

I'm still leaking at night, oh the glamours. Wasn't too bad on duck egg sheets, but no hiding from it with dark brown ones Grin reflexologist said at last session that my boobs were definitely full (you can tell by how firm the bits between your toes are, apparently) - I believe her! Grin

nickelbabe · 09/08/2011 09:58

:( at the riots - it actually came as a surprise to me when we saw it on the news last night - i hadn't seen anything about it till then (god knows where my head is - it's been going on 3 days now!), and it's horrible that it has escalated like that.
hope everyone who's nearby is unharmed and safe.

Thanks for the positioning tips - i have realised that my new box in the shop under the till makes my knees higher than my hips, and i can't really move myself because it sticks out too far! Blush
I am trying to sit with my legs wrapped around the legs of the chair, which lowers my knees, but doesn't feel as good.
I'll work it out.

KateeTheBump · 09/08/2011 10:30

I wouldn't worry about it too much during the day nickel, don't tie yourself up in knots! Isbn will still be freely moving for quite a few weeks anyway - just make sure you sit properly at home (use cushions to keep yourself more upright on sofa) and maybe do the all fours/gym ball thing for a few minutes a day?

Don't panic Wink I still find myself slouching on the sofa with my feet up at 30 weeks!

nickelbabe · 09/08/2011 10:33

Isbn is definitely moving freely Grin

thanks or the reassurance. :)

nickelbabe · 09/08/2011 10:33

KateeTheBump · 09/08/2011 11:22

God pregnancy does make you paranoid doesn't it? Due to visit friends with 18 month old toddler and he's apparently grizzling about something (teeth/ear or something) so now paranoid he's picked up something else from nursery which is dangerous in pregnancy... so far before/after visits we've been informed he's got chickenpox (when we were ttc) and last time it was hand, foot and mouth. Bloody nurseries... hotbed of infection. Of course, it could just be teething, or an ear infection...

vallinnapod · 09/08/2011 12:06

Yep - all my fave positions involve the slouch Grin

Hope you are already for TMI! Went to the MFAU for my swab today and OMG....! I am in no danger of giving anyone a run for their money in the labour stakes, my cervix was so far back, high and closed I was pretty sure she was up to her elbow in there at one point!! Still, negates the need for the EpiNo today!! The 'good' news is it was definitely pelvic floor weakness and not any water leaking (I was 99% sure this was the case any way) and I feel very reassured having had the GBS swab (no matter what the result)

Katee I understand the paranoia I wince on public transport if someone so much as sniffs!

nickelbabe · 09/08/2011 12:08

vall - definitely TMI, but it gives me an idea what I need to avoid. [bleurgh]

talking of paranoia, katee - just reading Emma's Diary, and the bit about cat litter - fine, I knew not to touch that, but it also says to wash your hands after handling cats Blush ooooops. I have never done that, and Seb keeps rubbing his snotty nose all over my hands.

KateeTheBump · 09/08/2011 12:20

At least Teddy won't be putting in an early appearance then val so you have a bit more time to do your nesting Wink

What I've read about toxo it says that you shouldn't handle any sick cats, I'm sure normal snot is fine! And if you've been around cats for years I'm sure you'll be immune anyway?

nickelbabe · 09/08/2011 13:16

that's the thing, i haven't been around them for years! I've never had cats before i moved in with DH, and that was just over 2 years ago

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 09/08/2011 14:37

Congrats on your wee boy's arrival Macaroon. I was also wondering about how you were getting on last night!

How is everyone else getting on?

OP posts:
vallinnapod · 09/08/2011 15:06

Don't worry Nickel - I am surrounded by 3 cats now, one of which loves my bump and won't leave me alone. I wash my hands after the loo, when cooking etc but touch them a whole lot more IYSWIM?! As Katee said, it's litter trays you need to steer clear of, although one of mine is bulimic (well, not really but one voms ALL the time!) so I have steered clear of sick too!

vallinnapod · 09/08/2011 15:06

Hii COAAF - how is Alba getting on? Hope you are all lovely and settled together! Does DS worship her?

nickelbabe · 09/08/2011 15:07

it's when DH goes away in October i'm more worried about.
i made him buy me very thick gloves. :)

vallinnapod · 09/08/2011 18:05

Yep - they say fine to do with gloves. If you really didn't want to change it you could get a spare tray to fill with fresh litter and put the dirty one outside until DH returns Grin

Eskarina · 09/08/2011 18:24

Has anyone thought of a back-up plan for getting to hospital whilst chaos ensues? I hadn't even considered it but I met up with my NCT group and they all seemed very concerned that the two main local hospitals are in rather dodgy areas and what would we do if roads were closed etc. Harlow isn't looking like such a smart choice now Sad.
