Ha! I made it to the next thread.

Thanks for the advice Frak, something I have been worried about.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 12/07/2011 17:38

Oh Katee great link!

I've had the same with Amazon too, so I emailed them about it. They said that marketplace sellers have to be registered to sell in each category but sometimes they try to sell in categories they're not part of. Amazon won't let them which is why you get the "can't deliver" notice. Apparently the key thing to look for is delivery at £0.00 (won't deliver) rather than "Delivery FREE!"

Also have the separating abs so have to be careful about sit-up type activity.

I've just collected my Bee+ Grin. Am very happy even if I have ended up with the red hood. Still waiting to see if JL will do me a pricematch though Sad.

Just 8 more days left at work...

vallinnapod · 12/07/2011 18:26

Ohhh exciting Esk - we pick the Uppababy up on Sunday! Luckily the cat hair is pissing me off otherwise I would be pushing them up and down the street in it Grin

13 days left here....! Cannot. Wait.

Eskarina · 12/07/2011 18:44

I doubt my cat would tolerate being pushed around in my new toy Grin. Perhaps I should have stolen a dolly from the NCT class last night, or for that matter from my classroom.

It was our last NCT evening last night, which was quite sad after 8 sessions. We did babycare skills. I was quite surprised that everyone else pulled faces when the teacher asked if anyone planned on using reusable nappies. One future dad managed to put a babygro on his doll upside down and wanted to know how tight the poppers were supposed to be around the neck - of course it was that he had the crotch bit around the neck!

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 12/07/2011 21:41

My new pushchair tried to arrive today. I missed it as I wasn't home and they came early Angry. I had to go out and made a massive effort to be back on time and they came early. Poor DD now has to ride in the old rust bucket for another day.

Angry on your behalf COAAF. Hope they sort themselves out tomorrow.

I'm getting Angry at people on ebay who keep pipping me to the post on TENS machines. I thought I'd finally won one tonight and someone beat my bid with 3 seconds to go. grr. Maybe I should just shell out for a new one, but it seems silly to when they're used for such a short period and you get new pads anyway.

NearlyHeadlessnickelbabe · 13/07/2011 10:01

yes, I have that problem with Amazon Marketplace - things like a toy that is quite blatantly a toy and not a baby item , and Amazon won't let me sell it because it's been categorised as a baby item
and you have to register to be a baby item seller, which costs money.
they do it on purpose to get more money out of us.
oh! but! they don't even tell you that when you try to sell the toy - it just says "we can't set your postage rates right now, please try again later"
Angry

NearlyHeadlessnickelbabe · 13/07/2011 10:02

coaaf - how bloody annoying for you!
that's the other end of the scale from "we'll deliver between 8am and 8pm", then they turn up at half 9, after you've not moved all day!

Baby2b · 13/07/2011 10:40

Lots of angry faces on here! No wonder though. I would have been very peeved at missing my pram.

Had horrid migraines all weekend which led to a doctors appointment yesterday. Baby is fine, my blood pressure and urine is fine. Just another pregnancy thing apparently Sad

Think I am going to snooze a little more now Smile

Oh, I think I we have chosen Ethan as our baby name. Just need a middle name. Grin

Are you guys already considering christenings/ naming ceremonies? Or am I thinking too far ahead as usual? Blush

Baby2b · 13/07/2011 10:43

esk someone in my class whispered to the rest of the class, 'at least none of us are daft enough to be considering resusables!'. Followed by massive Blush and mumbling from me.

fraktious · 13/07/2011 10:44

baby I had christening, godparents etc all planned ahead and then my plans got buggered however we now won't be christening until we can get home in December.

I would say if you want to christen before 3 months organise things tentatively beforehand. That's based on DS being nearly 3 months and I'm just about up to speed again to face organising something.

nickel clothes are on the way. I didn't gave a phone number for you so I put my British mobile instead!

NearlyHeadlessnickelbabe · 13/07/2011 10:49

oooh, thanks frak - i shall look forward to receiving them! Grin

NearlyHeadlessnickelbabe · 13/07/2011 11:36

Went to the Dreaded Bluewater yesterday afternoon with DH.
I needed to go to John Lewis to buy a maternity swimsuit, right? So John Lewis had one style, and it was hideous - a kind of blue flowery thing (looked like an old lady's swimsuit Hmm ) and the boob section was just tiny and flimsy.
was not impressed.
so we then had to do the restof Bluewater in the hope of finding something.
ended up having to get one from Mothercare - which wasn't so bad, i suppose, but it looks really big on (it's a size 10, and has a crop top vesty thing inside, which fitted perfectly, but the outside is obviously made big to fit the baby in - why couldn't they just do the wrinkly sides like the ones on the internet?? Confused )
I know i'll grow into it, but I'm not happy that at a time when women feel self-conscious about how their body looks, they have to wear hideous sacks for swimming in! AngryHmm

We also looked at cot/beds in John Lewis, and found one we like the look of (nearly £300! Shock, but it'll last till 6 yo ). It felt really surreal talking about that stuff in the shop for real, because my previous experience has been "pretending" looking at baby stuff, knowing I don't have one to buy for! Now I do! Grin

Baby2b · 13/07/2011 12:08

Next is meant to do good swimsuits for pregnancy. Mine is from jojo m bebe and is very ugly.

I might be repeating what someone told me on here (mn and rl blur). If you are buying a cot bed consider the length as they are usually shorter than a normal bed. For nights where you want to climb in to read book etc. Also, if you are planning on more dc will the cot bed be taken from dc1 and reused or will you buy another cot. Hope this makes sense.

NearlyHeadlessnickelbabe · 13/07/2011 12:13

yes, we checked lengths on the argos ones, and they said suitable for upto 6yo (i think they're 144cm? something like that) The one in John Lewis looked huge, like a normal small person's bed. It'll certainly do until we have another one (or as you say, if the other one wants this cot and we have to buy a "real" bed for this one)
curling up with a book? Confused you don't expect me to read to this child, do you??!! Wink

I didn't get as far as Next - was getting very annoyed at being forced to walk all around Bluewater without success in my condition Grin

Baby2b · 13/07/2011 12:13

Thanks for the advice Frak. Like the idea of welcoming the baby to the family, but don't want it to become a stress.

Trying to get as organised as possible. Was going to buy the birth announcements and put addresses and stamps on the envelopes, but don't want to tempt fate Hmm

NearlyHeadlessnickelbabe · 13/07/2011 12:14

Baby - we have a "welcome" thing at our churhc - like a thanksgiving for the baby's arrival. don't knwo if that's something you might consider.

Baby2b · 13/07/2011 12:25

My dh isn't religious, so don't want to be hypocritical and use the church for a party. However, my family lives all over so I'm thinking a naming ceremony to bring everyone together. I adore my godparents and would like ds to at least have mentors.

For the cot/bed we are going to buy a cot and then a full sized bed as I'm 175cm approx and dh is much taller. It can then be used by one of us of needed. The furniture in John Lewis is fab though.

I keep going to ask how the new mums are doing. I then wonder if you are getting asked the same questions over and over like when you are pregnant? Is the baby/you/dh sleeping/eating well etc? Smile

NearlyHeadlessnickelbabe · 13/07/2011 12:32

ah, see. Just cos the Christening thing was mentioned. :)
Naming ceremony sounds like a good compromise, and definitely worthy of a party.

We're just looking for the cheapest option, and figured that a cot/bed would last 6 years. I don't like to lie down for reading anyway :)
I like your idea for a more permanent feature.
It's annoying, because we have a spare bed at hte moment, which obviously isn't suitable for a baby, but it's one of those divan ones, so we can't just take it apart and put it in the loft for 2 years :(

KateeTheBump · 13/07/2011 12:36

Have you thought of trying freecycle, gumtree, ebay and all those other options Nickel? No point in shelling out £300 (unless you want a brand new one of course) if you can get one for nothing or not very much...

Baby2b · 13/07/2011 12:38

Was just being nosey about everyones plans Smile

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 13/07/2011 12:39

We have DS in a cot bed, and just as well too because he learnt to climb out at 18 months, so we took the sides off earlier than most people tend too. Now DD is here he'll be getting a single bed soon and the side will go back on for her. We weren't sure if (well DH wasn't, I was) and when we'd have another child, so wanted to get the most out of the cot, hence cotbed. It is a squeeze for lying on, but i have napped on it a couple of times Blush.

I managed to get a Mothercare swim suit that I really like. Didn't use it very often now and now it seems I may be able to get into my pre-pg togs again quite soon, so a bit gutted (and eyeing up my sewing machine to adjust the top...).

B2B I'm doing alright thank you. DS is winding me up a bit today, but that's as much because I'm tired and missing having DH home to help out. DD however is a little angel (for now anyway!).

OP posts:
Baby2b · 13/07/2011 12:47

I'm glad you are doing ok coaf. I can't imagine how exhausting you must be finding it. Do you know when your dh will be home?

vallinnapod · 13/07/2011 13:19

We bought a cotbed (when I was 8 weeks PG....it was in the M&P sale) I was sort of thinking with hindsight we should have probably spent less on just a cot. Fingers crossed we will have #2 so it will get more use, even if just as a cot.

We are planning on a Christening, not sure when though. I am not overly religious and DH had never really stepped foot in a church before we got maried but it would mean a lot to my Mum and TBH, it's a lovely celebration. Our problem is my Mum hates the new vicar (so Christian of her Wink) so the church we wed in is out, however I was Christened in Temple Church (the one form da Vinci code...) so we are hoping he can be Christened there which I quite like. Of course, lots of cake afterwards Blush
