Ha! I made it to the next thread.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 03/07/2011 09:14

Snurk at TTL's DH and the nipple shield. Good luck TTL, hope things are really happening for you now.

Hope you've recovered from all that Coro BB.

Thanks Bambam. Hope all is going well with you and your bump.

Esk, believe me, trying to pack whilst in labour is not a good idea. Good thing I wasn't staying in or I'd have been having to get DH to bring me a whole pile of things! At least I had over packed for Alba weeks in advance Grin

OP posts:
vallinnapod · 03/07/2011 09:16

LOL Esk my DH is the same. I said yesterday that 6 weeks today the baby is officially cooked. He couldn't get his head around it and kept saying that I was 31 weeks so that wasn't right! Grin the concept if term last 5 weeks was something I couldn't bring myself to try and explain afterwards!!

BTW ladies, anyone tried perineal massage? Just started here and, err, ouch! And I am really not stretching very far. How the hell a head can fit out is Confused me at present Grin

Eskarina · 03/07/2011 13:16

I'm giving perineal massage a go too Val. And yes. ouch. Must remember to do it every day. Along with pelvic floor, breathing exercises, leg stretches, relaxation, exercise and all the other things on my good intentions list. I can now see why people want more than 3 weeks of maternity leave - it would take me all day to do all the things I'm "supposed" to be doing. once I've had a 3 hour lie in each day

vallinnapod · 03/07/2011 15:28

I have to remember the pelvic floor exercises too - I also find I have to concentrate really hard Blush!

Tend to listen to the relaxation stuff when I can't sleep - which does work! Although I need to start listening to my hypnobirth CD - you are meant to stay awake during that one!! They also say to try not to listen to it on headphones - and of course the best time for me to do it is on the iPod during my commute.

Eskarina · 03/07/2011 15:43

Which hypnobirth CD do you have Val? I've been looking into them on amazon/ebay and there seem to be quite a few around, although not the one recommended in the official hypnobirthing book.

I agree about having to concentrate during PF exercises. DH asked me one night why I was holding my breath in bed - it was because I was doing them!! (He accused me of being about to fart Angry!)

We've just had a tour of our hospital/birthing unit. I think it's supposed to make me feel better but I'm not sure it has. There were machines and an operating theatre(necessary I know). The birthing unit was better and I only managed to freak out about not being able to park there (same site as hospital, but parking is horrendous everywhere on site) and what happens if all 4 pools are occupied when I want to go in.
Makes it all seem a bit real...

vallinnapod · 03/07/2011 16:54

Got this one on eBay (for £1.50!) - sold it immediately after I iPodded it or would send it on to you. It's OK - primarily got it because I had the pregnancy relaxation one in the same series and despite much scepticism I found that really useful (I thought the wishy-washy-ness of it all would really annoy me!)

I felt exactly the same as you describe after our first antenatal class. I was Shock that our birth centre only has 8 rooms (2 pools) and the labour ward was a whopping 46 rooms. Plus my due date, late Aug-early Sept is meant to be peak birthing time (post Christmas party babies!) which made me more nervous I may not get my first choice of birth. I just have to remember lots of it is out of my control and getting upset about things if they aren't ideal won't change them. I can say that with a grown-up attitude now....!

Eskarina · 03/07/2011 17:48

The midwife who showed us round pointed out that a birth plan is a really good idea as a map of where you want to go, but to be really flexible as what matters is where you're going much more than how you get there.

I'm looking at what I need to put in my hospital bag. It's baffling me.
Also, how do I buy nursing bras at this stage - aren't my boobs meant to grow more once the milk comes in??

Dynababy · 03/07/2011 19:04

A late congrats to COAF on baby Alba! LOVE her name and so very glad you had a straight forward birth!

Congrats too BB for escaping the hospital and your fellow inmates who sound like something from an episode of shamless!!

TTL poor you with all those contractions and not established labour .. sounds like will happen soon and you have a lot of cheerleaders here!! Give me T ... Give me an L..

Glad you feel more sorted Esk now nursery done, I felt the same. On nursing bras they say to buy them at about 37 weeks for a decent fit, I reckon most must have some flex in the cups as your boobs will fill up and be drained on an ongoing basis ... eeek that makes it all seem a bit bovine to me now I've said it Blush

Re mucous plug Frak Shock Shock Shock at 2/3 palms of snot!!!! Not quite what I was expecting.. glad you shared though save all the Shock when the time comes!!

37 & 5 here and feeling like a total heifer .. BUT finished work on friday so don't need to drag my sorry ass into work tomorrow .. ohhhh and for once its GORGEOUS here in Edinburgh .. so hot and lovely! Had a lovely afternoon waddling around taste fest!

Dynababy · 03/07/2011 19:06

erm shameless even Blush

vallinnapod · 03/07/2011 20:34

Sheer Envy at the mat leave Dyna....4 weeks to go for me!

Nursing bra-wise I have bought 2 Emma Jane Next Generation ones (see Figleaves) . One in black ad one in skin. You buy them by chest measurement and then they fit cup size B-F. They are a little like a sports bra in that there is lots of stretch for full and non-full times. I then plan on getting some padded ones once my boobs have settles Grin. I was told to make sure you have enough room in the chest measurement to tighten it quite quickly as your rib cage shrinks slot immediately after birth as your uterus and internal organs goes back to where they should.

fraktious · 03/07/2011 20:58

On the nursing bras DS is 2 months and I've only just ordered sized ones. I had mothercare wrapover ones because my boobs kept inflating and deflating so much! My ribs didn't change, bizarrely, so I guess I carried low. I had normal sized bras, and extenders at the ready, but never used them.

Yeah there was waaaay more pant snot than I thought. And (TMI) it's warm. I know one should expect that given that it's coming from inside but I didn't think!

Eskarina · 03/07/2011 21:46

Wow Dyna Can't believe you're 37++ already! Mind you, I'm 33+5 and can barely believe that. And yes, very Envy of the mat leave. I've got 3 more weeks of school to go. But it is true that very little happens at the end of term. I have to get through this week (teaching observation by the Head tomorrow, then various things on each day, then Sports Day on Friday, which is hard to try to herd 40 3&4 year olds around when they just want to go to mum) but then the next 2 should be OK. I've hired a party entertainer for the end of term party to take the strain off. (Am I going to be that sort of mother? At least I can charge the parents for their kids to attend so it covers the cost of said entertainer!)

I've just won a set of "Natal Hypnotherapy" CDs on ebay - I think including the one you linked to Vallinna. Thanks all for the advice on nursing bras. I'll give it a couple of weeks then measure myself. Chest measurement hasn't changed and in theory have only gone up one cup size if I measure, but there's no way a 34B fits me now even though that's what it works out at. 34D more like...

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 04/07/2011 00:17

Liking the sound of your bra's Vallinna. I was THRILLED yesterday when I took the extension piece off my bra, but now my milk is coming in, the cups are way way way to small. I'm expecting to look like a porn star in the morning.

Didn't realise you were so close to baby Dyna! How exciting, you're at the anytime now stage Grin. We really need to up date the list of who's where etc

OP posts:
vallinnapod · 04/07/2011 06:55

Forgot to say on the bra front they are only a tenner which was by far the cheapest i found. I too have only gone up one chest size so far and although I have now wear a cup size up I that has only really gone up by half. I actually find food and other bits in there at the end of the day because the bras I currently wear are a bit gape-y Blush

takethatlady · 04/07/2011 09:26

Hey! Apologies to coaaf who will read this on the June thread too :)

Isobel Edith was born at 6.10am weighing 7lbs on 3rd July :) She is stunning. We are home and enjoying her today (and trying to stop her crying!) and everything is amazing. Had gas and air and pethidine, both of which were brilliant, and labour was 12 hours start to finish, including losing the mucous plug. Waters never broke by themselves - the midwife did it as I pushed her out! All was as good as it can be. No stitches :)

Will update properly later :)

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 04/07/2011 09:32

Envy of no stitches TTL, Congratulations and hello to Isobel. GrinGrin

OP posts:
vallinnapod · 04/07/2011 09:38

Congrats TTL!!

nickelbabe · 04/07/2011 10:40

wow, TTL, that sounds so easy! Grin

congratulations!
beautiful name too.

and yuck to frak with your pant snot. why??????? Shock
Grin

the most snot I've got at the moment is nose snot - it's practically pouring out! I've blown my nose (properly) 2ce today already. It's like having a huge cold without the yucky ill feeling.

Spent yesterday afternoon finishing clearing out DH's mum's house. A couple of trips to the tip (with me carrying all the light things!), and also our garage is now so full that i couldn't get my bike out! (so once i finally managed it, i wouldn't put it back in, and now it's cluttering up the back room, which DH is nooooot happy about) Grin

fraktious · 04/07/2011 10:45

Envy no stitches and Envy 7lber!

Congratulations, TTL and family!!!!

BrassicaBabe · 04/07/2011 10:54

Yeah ttl!!!! Whoo-hooo!!! Great news! Sounds like labour went to plan. Lovely name! Smile They discharged you pretty quickly then

Dynababy · 04/07/2011 11:11

Congrtulations TTL on Isobel's arrival! Sounds like you had a good labour in the end after a couple of days of torment. I sooo hope not to have stiches but seems like a rare treat in the world of birth Smile

Enjoy your new arrival

macaroonmum · 04/07/2011 11:25

Just popping on to say huge, huge congrats to Brassica, COAAF and TTL - can't believe you've all popped now and was thinking fondly of the old shag capes and all

5 more weeks to go here but boy still transverse and showing no signs of budging and midwife keeps talking about CS. Have been trying everything from Moxibustion to breech tilt. Nada. :(

Vall and Esk keep up the massage - it can supposedly really make a difference although it didn't do much for me first time...

vallinnapod · 04/07/2011 11:34

Hey Macaroon! Any acupuncture for the turning?? Hope he behaves and does a head stand for you! Pretty sure mine is lying transverse, just judging on movement, but have MW this arvo who can confirm! Will be very Angry if I go through the massage and the small fortune I spent on the Epi-No to have a c-section!!

fraktious · 04/07/2011 11:48

We were transverse at 34 weeks - turned by 40 but still indecisive. Have you tried bag of peas/warm wheat bag or the light trick? I found if I massaged the bottom of my bump he shifted towards head downwards!

vallinnapod · 04/07/2011 13:53

Quick question, do you really need to wash new baby clothes, sheets etc? I would never do it for me?
