By the way I'm going to Bulgaria in a fortnight. I know I'm ok to fly but do I need to tell anyone (midwife, airline, etc) and would anyone recommend those attractive pressure stockings or am i being a bit paranoid....Confused

Moobee · 18/06/2011 14:57

conchita I usually love food - normally nothing can put me off.

deesus my midwife said travelling was fine but support socks and leg exercises are important, as is good travel insurance and bringing your blue notes. Sounds fun, I've not been to Bulgaria.

Report
Deesus · 18/06/2011 15:30

Thanks for that moobee. I'll check our travel insurance as we already have a policy. Will definitely buy some support sock too.

Bulgaria is fab - went there two years ago and fell in love with it. Looking forward to two weeks chilling out in the sun - once we get back it'll be all systems go on getting the house ready, etc, etc!

Deesus, definitely wear the socks and get up to walk often. I'm paranoid about flying when pregnant and just won't do it. But I'm a bit broke anyway so it's not a difficult decision.

Mammyzoe I'm taking the nuchal scan. It isn't just for checking downs. I can choose on the day to be told about the Downs risk. The other, more serious problems will be told to me.

Like, Parsley, I want to be forewarned about any difficulties hat might arise. It doesn't mean I would not have my baby, or not love it just the same but I could have support and information on how life shall change, do I need to give birth in a different hospital, etc.

Age is on your side but not so much for myself.

If this is a poll then I'm having the nuchal and Papp-A tests as well, for the reasons that SlightlyScrambled mentions. I live in Poland, where support for children with disabilities or SN of any sort as available in the UK, even after Cameron has had a go at it, is something we can only dream of, so would have to do some serious fact-finding and information seeking...
Age is not on my side either, though this isn't my first - is it a myth that age only matters with your first? Logically thinking I would suspect it is, but a startling number of people have told me otherwise.
Talking of age, am I the oldest one here at 38 next week?

Very jealous of you ladies that are showing and getting cravings etc. :) If it wasn't for the many few tests I've done, I wouldn't actually believe I'm pregnant. Had nothing at all! BA next Wednesday, I might start believing it a little bit then.

My protein in my urine test came back clear, yay!

That is really lovely,Conchita, nice to hear that such people exist!

Lovely to know a few of us are going to be seeing scans soon! It took me 4 weeks to book a BA so not holding out for a scan any time soon :o

Report
purpleteapot · 18/06/2011 20:25

I have no idea about any of these tests at all...feeling very clueless. Hoping the midwife will clear things up for me at my BA.

MercyMe · 18/06/2011 21:06

Hi everyone

How are you all? I an completely exhausted, had been feeling well until yesterday. Hope it doesn't last!

'conchita' that's great that you got the all clear for food poisoning. Hope you're feeling better. I didn't show first time until about 18 weeks, ufortunately not like that this time!

I am also having a nuchal with 12 week scan. Our local hospital didn't offer this or 20 weeks scan when I was pregnant last time. Do you get results at scan?

Report
fifitrixabelle78 · 18/06/2011 21:25

deesus - I think you need to let insurance co know you're pregnant as they count it as a medical condition. I'd err on the side of caution anyway as lastthing you want is them claiming you should have told them if you need to claim for anything.

Now 12+0 today (my calc) and still got really bad nausea and vomiting. Gotta end soon!!! Not helped by my mum attempting sympathy but falling short when she tags on "but I didn't get sick with you or your brother"! Not fair!

Hello all - am I too late to join in?
My EDD (bambino no.1 for us) is 28 January... been feeling too sick to type so far, but have finally made it on here!

Hi monkeymamma - welcome on the bus! We're a pretty chatty bunch so just join right in!
Any moans about nausea totally fine- it seems to be laying most of us low at the moment.

Report
Conchita · 19/06/2011 09:51

deesus I went on holiday last month and I booked insurance through columbus- there was a section where I could declare 'uncomplicated preg' and there was no change to my quote so hopefully you can go on your existing policy so long as you tell them. If you're feeling queasy I'd suggest bringing some dry crackers and cereal bars for an energy boost. I like the italian crackers (eg Doriano) as they come in little handbag-sized packets and they taste nice.
Welcome Monkeymamma . I have been feeling really queasy too but think I'm finally coming out so you should start to feel well again in a couple of weeks. I actually cooked something and enjoyed it last night, and it involved veg and spices. Progress!
Had my BA yesterday. Was at a gorgeous MW-led unit with birthing pools and stuff, i was quite impressed. But I prob won't go there as my local hospital is 5 mins up the road and this place is miles away. The hosp has a MW-led unit too so I hope it's as nice but TBH I've no idea what I want at the moment and I whimpered at the blood tests so I can't see me coping with a natural birth!
Also had a bit of a shock as I gave my medical history and mentioned a rare condition that had affected a baby in my family. The midwife told me it was genetic which was news to me as I had been told it was not inherited. So now I am being referred for screening for this condition, which is not compatible with life. I'm sure it's really unlikely but it's a worry and MW wasn't sure what the screening would be. She said it may just be a detailed scan.I feel really unhappy about an amnio. they will call me to book next week so I hope they'll be able to tell me then.

Hi everyone.I'm another one of those awful 'lurkers' who's been reading the threads since I first found out at about 5 wks.Anyway,am now just about 12 (11+5 according to dates, but 12+1 according to the early scan I had when about 7 wks and panicking slightly about all the aches and pains I was getting) so just about feeling brave enough to actually write something and not worry that I'm going to jinx it or something.Anyway,i have my scan on Tuesday, which on the one hand I'm very excited about, but on the other a wee bit nervous as someone at work told me an awful story about a friend who went all excited to her scan but was told it wasn't forming properly and had to terminate...sorry,that's probably the last thing I should be talking about here, but it's what I've been getting myself all worried about anyway. Well at least as some of us approach the 12 wk mark I hope this horrible nausea will start to ease. I've had horrible evening sickness actually, which has at least meant I've been ok at work, and also been able to keep a watch on my weights...am getting married mid-august and already have my dress which I got in a sample sale and which already won't do up over my huge veiny boobs (cue some serious alterations!),but hasn't been so good for do as he just comes home every evening to find me collapsed in a heap on the sofa and has to put me to bed.

Anyway, the main reason I wanted to post was about the travel insurance thing as well...have just bought the insurance for my honeymoon (will be about 20 wks) and my experience was that there's some new EU ruling that says pregnancy can't be viewed as a medical condition and so wouldn't be explicitly stated on the policy. You just need to check the cover though as the Post Office informed me that if I was advised not to fly due to the pregnancy, even weeks from now after having taken out the policy then I wouldn't be covered for cancellation,so I then rang around a bit and found that Aviva would cover for cancellation (and they were cheaper) although you wouldn't be covered if advised not to fly and then you still did, obviously!

Anyway, sorry for the mammoth first post everyone!xxx

Welcome ag123 thanks for the advice on holiday insurance. Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding too xx

Hi ag123 - nice to have another newbie! good luck with all your wedding and honeymoon planning, sounds like you have a pretty exciting year ahead.
Thank you for all the lovely and welcoming hellos, moobee, fifi, conchita and shonnomanon. I'm so glad to hear you're feeling a bit less sick conchita! That has given me a bit of hope that my tummy will come back to normal eventually (eating an awful lot of TUC biscuits and appletiser in the meantime!). I really hope your little bean is OK and will keep all my fingers crossed for your scan.
Hope everyone has a good week ahead! x

Hi ladies and lovely to have more new joiners! I've not been online for a few days and it's lovely to see pages and pages of more chat!
I'm also on the older side, will be having my 12 week scan on my 39th birthday, 2 days after returning from honeymoon, so I guess I have left everything a bit late in life...
I'm with Parsley and Scrambled on the nuchal thing I think, forewarned is forearmed and I really don't like surprises, would rather have time to get my head around whatever is to come... same with the baby's sex.
AG123 when are you getting married?? Mine is 1 week today! V excited, but also tired justing thinking about it... picked up my dress from the seamstress yesterday and it still fits tho is def a teeny bit more snug. So this week I'll try to avoid things like bread and red meat, but generally I am eating like a horse at the moment, esp sweet things, and I don't normally have a sweet tooth. Mmmm, Haribo!!! Feel tired and dizzy a lot of the time, and food seems to help - or at least take my mind off it...

Linda40 it was all a bit of a surprise tbh - I'd given up all idea of ever being a mum and left it to fate. Just hoping for the best really :) The midwife said lots of women older than me having their first child these days! Think I am still in mild shock - once that wears off I think I'll be able to work out whether it's bonkers or not!
