thanks emmy...am due back home early August so will order my last few days here so it is waiting for me!!! PS was a bit worried that my name had dropped off EDD list..... PPS am always looking for daft signs that things are going to go wrong with this preganancy!! PPPS I need to try and chill out!! Being away from home has got me more stressed as scared if something went wrong I wldnt have the good old NHS to rely on : (

ghosteditor · 21/07/2011 09:26

Morning ladies! There's been a lot of list action in the last couple of days!

debs39 the pushchair incident must have been really awful for you, sorry Sad.

My dreamgenii pillow arrived today and I'm looking forward to trying it out. Still worrying about the increasing discomfort in my hips/pelvis - may need to see my physio when I get back from holidays next week. He's a bit... physical though (it works!) so I will have to explain that I'm pg.

Not that it's not completely obvious by the way. I am wearing my bump band to work for the first time today so that I can wear some trousers for once [bliss]. I have fully 'popped' (am 15 weeks today) which is early for a first pregnancy but probably has to do with the fact that I'm quite short and don't have the greatest posture. To be honest, I'm quite enjoying the fact that I look pg and not just chubby Grin

Just today and tomorrow at work before I have a week off with DH and some friends, yeys!

abeautifulbutterfly · 21/07/2011 10:22

addicted I am so shocked at your drs' lack of empathy or even basic professional conduct! Things like that are bad enough when they come out of the mouths of idiots like my MIL, for example, but from a HCP??!
But you are obviously a strong woman, just make sure you get the support and care you need this time round.
Am v envious of all of you with the possibility to hire a Doppler Envy. No such thing here. Mind you, it would probably be a worse distraction from work than MN!
Shonno the flip side of the ungrateful pg women is the infuriating people around you who go on about how disappointed they will be if I have a 3rd girl (my DM, for example). WTF?! I (and DH) will have underperformed, then, I suppose? Makes you feel like the stories you hear from rural India about gender selection...

Oeisha · 21/07/2011 10:39

addicted I too am shocked. I guess they're trying to 'keep it real' but frankly are just being insensitive.

Rough night last night. Vommited so violently it cam out my nose too. :( Really tired this morning as I slept badly. Can't wait for the next round of up-chucking.

Hope everyone else is having a better day

Nanny01 · 21/07/2011 11:19

Oeisha - that sounds awful , I still have episodes when I am sick. It tends to happen if I don't eat regularly or eat to much. I am having toddler sized portions and find that is enough. Really hope that doesn't happen again. Every time I'm sick I have my 4 kids banging on the door asking if I'm alright. Which of course I'm not.

Livened · 21/07/2011 12:17

hi everyone - hope you are all ok??

Just an update on how things are going and wondering if anyone else is having the same:

-First scan showed I am now 14+3 today! New EDD of 16th January 2012 and baby was kicking like mad which brought a tear to my hubby's eye!
-20 week scan in early September when we will find out what it is!
-I'm not showing hardly much at all which is really starting to concern me - just a little baby belly which is very firm and all my clothes still fit (although scan said baby was growing well). I've also actually lost weight but I'm hoping its baby getting all the nutrients it needs plus the fact im now eating much more healthily and drinking no alcohol etc.
-I keep dreaming about weird things - latest is about my teeth dropping out?!
-Have been feeling terrible with headaches and back ache this week but today feel a bit brighter which is sooo nice...
-Haven't bought anything for baby yet and the world of prams/buggies totally baffles me so any advice appreciated (its our first baby)!

My hubby is being truly lovely at the moment - he was cutting the lawns last night and talked about teaching the baba cricket and setting up football goals etc (not that he wants a boy or anything!).

Im getting so impatient now and can't wait to get a baby bump so people can tell im pregnant (and proud!), and then to feel baba in there (also a scary thought), fnd out if its a boy or girl, and finally to meet them for the first time.

Hope you are all ok and feeling positive/excited/nervous like me!

ghosteditor · 21/07/2011 12:24

hi livened, that's exciting! Don't worry at all about the lack of bump, it's normal for people to vary loads - my mum reckons she didn't show until 7 months with me, but she was several years younger and two dress sizes smaller so it's hardly surprising. It just depends where you carry and what your frame is like. Definitely nothing to worry about, especially at this stage! And the bub will be getting all it needs from you - even to the extent of depriving you of what you need, so keep up with the healthy eating!

I haven't bought anything either and am totally baffled about prams and cots and a million other things. I do know that I definitely want a sling and would prefer to use that than a pram to begin with. I just found the reviews page on MN (never looked at it before) and will probably use that as a starting point for looking at things. There's just soooo much to consider. I've told DH that he can chose the pram as he's great at picking the bikes and technical stuff that he wants to buy and I don't see why this should be any different. I think it's good to give them a job that makes them feel useful Grin

Livened · 21/07/2011 12:26

P.s anyone else having the annoying negative stories from people when they find out your preggers:

"oooh, my daughter/neice/sister/cousin had a 4 day labour....it was terrible..." etc etc.

Why do some people always focus on the negative rather than the amazing positive of a baby?? It was the same when I was getting married and people kept saying "have you got your dress yet...no...oh dear, my daughter/neice/sister had terrible problems finding hers.."

It really annoys my Hubby and also Mum when they hear those sort of things, but I just find them funny now (although I may have murdered them if I'd seen them in my first trimester!).

x

Moobee · 21/07/2011 12:52

Thank you for the birthday wishes sho and oeisha :)

Livened - I'm 15+4 and not showing really, I think that's fairly standard at this stage. I expected to have a bump by now as I'm not great at doing exercise so I didn't think I'd have good stomach muscles.

I've also found that some people really focus on the negative. There's one friend who's always very negative. On a recent visit just after finding out she started talking about brain damaged babies - I won't detail all of what she said as I don't want to be guilty of the same thing but it was really innappropriate.

Oeisha - I feel for you, it's really unpleasant being sick out of your nose. It always used to happen with me too and that sensation of acid stays for ages. I hope it passes soon.

It's my 16 week appointment next week - I'm looking forward to it! I hope I can listen to the heartbeat. :)

Capybara · 21/07/2011 13:06

Hi everyone - great catching up on all the news. Had NT scan last Thursday and then immediately went away for a long weekend, so this is my first chance (sort of) to report back.

Was really caught by surprise by how detailed the scan was - I've been spending so much time on MN (and reading UK baby books) that I didn't realise that things might be on a different schedule here. Not only did we get the Down risk - 1/3945, which is great given my age - but it seems like we've essentially had the anomaly scan - the obstetrician was able to check for most things - and we now know that we're having a boy (!!) Wasn't expecting to hear about sex until 20 weeks, so it came as a shock, especially since I had somehow convinced myself it would be a girl (pure narcissism I think) So DH and I spent the weekend trying to make each other laugh by suggesting outrageous boy's names :) Now to tell both sets of parents, and work colleagues.

Livened · 21/07/2011 13:17

hi ghosteditor and Moobee - nice to hear from you.

I'm off to check out the reviews page now for some sort of help with deciding what things to buy. The hardest part is getting the balance between actually what we will definitely need/use, and what is just extravagant. There is so much pressure for you to buy the best of everything for your baby (especially your first). But will they actually know they dont have the latest designer pram to ride out in...I'd rather have the money for later on when they will notice and (hopefully) be grateful for what we give to them!

One of my friends who is 3 weeks ahead of me has already finished the nursery, complete with cot bed, furniture etc. I'm planning on a just a lovely moses basket for the first few months at least!

Right - off to the reviews section... x

abeautifulbutterfly · 21/07/2011 14:05

Wow capybara, congratulations! You must be the first of us to know what you're having!! May I modestly suggest Onuphrius as a nice classic boy's name Grin Grin Grin Bet that's one you didn't come up with!

Oeisha · 21/07/2011 14:27

Congrats to all with good scan results. Exciting isn't it. Though, despite scan it all still seems a bit weird to me.

Livened I'm a vivid dreamer, and well as the occasional lucid dream and usually remember a lot of my dreams. I get dreams about peeling and falling out teeth. Often to the point that they're fillinf my mouth up and I have to keep spitting them out. Peeling/falling out teeth is a very common dream and, if you believe in dream interpretation are about your anxieties about how people are perciving you/your appearance. It could just be that you've started to grind you teeth and it's coming through like that in your dreams...

Unlike the majority of you, my mother isn't quite normal and (in addition to) has got all excited about buying me a pram/whateveryouwanttotallit. If it's any help, we went to John Lewis and test drove some. They even have a 'fake baby' (weighted doll) and allow you push it about. For versatility and ease of folding I found the iCandy Peach range great (think I'll go for this one), and the buggabo next best. Depends on what you want from it though. Both, you could adapt from pram to stroller to pushchair and both could clip carseats onto if you're nipping into the supermarket etc.

FYI John Lewis also do a free 'consultancy' service where you book and appointment to go in and talk to them about what you want/need and they take you through the practicalities. They can also set you up with a 'baby list' - like a 'wedding list'. Oh and will also help you fit carseats etc. Once I've negotiated mother politics I'll be going back for one these.

mummyzoe2012 · 21/07/2011 14:37

hiya all, ive been baby shopping today and got everything but the travel system and the cot set. its so exciting choosing everything. it mainly all gets delivered tomorrow so carnt wait to recive it and put it all in the babys room. When is everyone making up the babys room i.e unpacking everything and making things up? i was thinking i would do it in november as i have a low liying placenta at the mo. so might be brought on early or even a c section which i do not want.

Livened · 21/07/2011 14:48

Hi Oeisha - glad im not the only one having all these weird dreams! It makes sense as I am worried about my appearance as I've felt so tired and un-glam lately - I'm hoping for the healthy pregnant "glow" to take over soon!

I'm off to the Trafford Centre this afternoon to meet OH after work and drag him to John Lewis as I have heard many good things about their baby department. Hopefully we will get some great advice and I will try and keep my purse in my bag - although I'm a pretty prolific impulse buyer!

I'll let you all know if I manage to resist the urge to buy the whole shop.. x

BunMyOven · 21/07/2011 14:58

Congratulations Capybara! How lovely!

Oeisha, I have the iCandy Cherry and it's served us really well, ds is now 2 and there's not a thing wrong with it. The only negatative is that you have to take the seat off before you can fold it, so might be worth thinking about if the Peach is the same in that respect, it's never bothered us much though Smile

RE stupid comments, I've had someone say to me "Oh it'll be someone for ds to bully" when I told them I was pregnant!! Shock ds is only 2 and has never even shoved another child Confused

Also when I told my mum that I was going for my scan she (after being very excited) proceeded to tell me about her sister who had bad news at her first scan (won't go into details for obvious reasons). I stopped her with a "Mum! Why would you think I'd want to hear about that right now?!" she was absolutely mortified and felt awful for being so thoughtless Grin

ghosteditor · 21/07/2011 15:56

I need your help! Could you help diagnose me please?

I've been having a lot of discomfort lately with what I think is acid reflux or similar - I've had a lot of gas I guess and have been burping quite a bit. As soon as that happens, I get an unpleasant sort of burning feeling at the top of my stomach/the bottom of my oesophagus which lasts for quite a while. At first I think I confused it with nausea but this has actually been contributing to my first trimester misery quite a lot. What should I buy for this? I've never had it before but I know that the pg hormones (I think relaxin is responsible for this too) cause problems like this.

I'm guessing it's just an over the counter job but have no idea what to ask for. I could ask the chemist I guess but I thought some of you might know exactly what this is. Thanks ladies!

supadupapupascupa · 21/07/2011 15:59

ghost sounds like heartburn to me. Go to your gp though because even if that is all it is (i say 'all' light heartedly as I suffer and it is a real bitch!) you get free prescriptions (in the uk anyway) and will get a huge bottle of gaviscon for free.

OP posts:
ghosteditor · 21/07/2011 16:05

(grr! MN ate my reponse! Trying again)

Thanks much - I thought it sounded like heartburn but had always had the impression that heartburn went higher in the chest. Have fortunately never suffered before but it does seem to match google symptoms.

Will definitely go to the GP (it gives me a kick to use my free prescription card!) but will never get a non-emergency appointment before my holiday next week so will try a small bottle now. (or maybe when it stops pouring down!)

thanks!

ghosteditor · 21/07/2011 16:06

Ps sorry that you have to suffer it too - definitely very unpleasant. Can't believe I didn't spot it as part of the nausea misery...

ghosteditor · 21/07/2011 16:31

ETA that I took your recommendation for gaviscon, supa, and nipped out in the rain to buy some. Mmm, pepperminty.

I think I love you. Instant relief! thanks!!!

supadupapupascupa · 21/07/2011 17:24

ghost in that case if it has worked call your surgery and ask them to prepare you a prescription without seeing the doctor. It's available over the counter and very common so i wouldn't have thought it would be an issue.
It can hurt where you described, but it does rise also. And it probably will Sad.

ps. I prefer the aniseed flavour, the mint one is gross. but they all work.

OP posts:
ghosteditor · 21/07/2011 17:37

oh but I can't stand aniseed so I think mint is the way forward!

Can I do that at the GP? Amazing!

Nanny01 · 21/07/2011 17:38

ghosteditor - sounds like heart burn or acid reflux. All the pregnancy hormones that loosen up joints also work on the stomach to. It was one of the first pregnancy symptoms I experienced with every pregnancy. The obvious things like eating small and often and having an extra pillow help. My reflux gets worse as time goes on. I am considering going to the doctor for a perscription for something stronger as there are threads on here saying there are other stronger meds available. I normally feel it burn it's way up to my throat which is most unpleasant. I have tried gaviscon in many forms but even the strawberry tablets make me sick so just usually take tums or rennie chews to help. I get it whatever I eat. Drinking milk before bedtime also helps neutralise things.

Has any one bought anything bay related yet? Was wondering if any one has been to Kiddie care the store. Would like to demo some of the pushchairs. I have missed having the pushchair for the last year and dh has said to treat little bean to something nice.

AS for horror stories I have had none after 4 baby's so please take heart there are many positive stories out there. Doctors try to worry me but I remain positive.

ghosteditor · 21/07/2011 17:42

thanks nanny good to know I'm not alone, even if I feel bad that the rest of you are suffering.

I know a few people with bad stories - some really unpleasant - but I try never to mention them to pg people, and try not to think about myself. I think in many cases it's the only thing people can think to say as it's the baby-related news that most sticks with you, but still, it's bad form to share horror stories with pg women!
