Re: Yolkis purchases... I've allowed Mum to buy me a pram string with funky little animals on it, in preparation for the iCandy which she is also INSISTING on buying. My MIL is busy buying up the wool supply in the area and so are some of my collegues (bless 'em). Other than exercise trousers (?! WTF?? anyone think I'm tired) pregnacare, mat trousers and an exercise ball I can use with Yolkis in-utero and some ginger, so far nothing basically, but I like to think Yoliks is benifitting. I may let me Mum go totally mental after 20wk scan...she's being very restrained about the actual baby (saidly not about reminding me how bad a parent I'll obviously be and how fat I am, contrary creature).

Oeisha · 21/07/2011 18:03

BunMyOven Yes, you do have to remove the seating with the 'Peach' too, but as I want it to do pram and pushchair that seems fair enough. It also had the easiest 'release' system for the seating. I think I was just too plain short for some of them. Though the bugaboo and the Silvercross Surf were also pretty good but had the same seat-removal issue.

Interesting, if a thought springing from the mind of a mad woman who doesn't want acid burn in her nose again- do you think you can squirt Gaviscon/milk up you nose???

Spagbolagain · 21/07/2011 18:47

Anybody there with experience of a newborn and a just 2yr old re prams?
DS doesn't like buggy very much but obviously has to sit in it sometimes, he's 20 months now. By the time baby arrives, do you think I will need a double, or will a buggy board be enough? My concern with these is that they can just get off them, and DS can be a right monster in shops!

greenlady78 · 21/07/2011 19:49

Hi mums! I had my scan last week and everything is good :) I am very happy with that but have been having some rough nights...yesterday I had a dream I was in a corridor, with lots of doors and I was surrounded by rotweillers...even I know it is because I have been finding it hard to make some choices re. where to stay in the next few months!

Anyone else fed up with the question 'was it planned?' Gosh, can people just be happy and welcome a blessing?????

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend in advance! Hope everyone feel better soon! (I might need to go to GP tomorrow as an abdominal dull pain won't go away.... :(

Will truly try and come here more often to comment on posts! xxx

tigana · 21/07/2011 19:55

spagbol....I'd go for buggy board i think. DS was out of his buggy by 2 and 3/4 ish, and a double buggy is expensive for just 4 months or so of use.

Or you always pop your toddler in buggy and have baby in a sling every so often?

Mum2be79 · 21/07/2011 20:13

Well I have had horror stories about:

blood loss
miscarriage
still birth
long labours
piles

and all this from a few colleagues! They know I'm anxious so why do they keep bringing the subjects up????

Wormshuffler · 21/07/2011 20:24

I had a weird tooth dream last night too! freaky! I was dreaming that bits of them were falling off into my mouth, and i woke up frantically feeling my teeth to check they were ok!! happened 3 times! i got up in the end and went to the loo and it broke the spell.

You lot are making me want to spend! and I swore to myself I wouldn't buy anything until 20 week mark.

I havnt been sick today woohoo 15+2 Grin

blueeyedmonster · 21/07/2011 20:28

People seem to like saying the worst thing, goodness knows why! Take no notice, for every horror story there are hundreds of positive ones.

Wow capybara congrats! I never knew you could find out this early either.

I have the acid reflux too. I only got it at the end bit last time but it's reared it's ugly head a couple of times already. Last time lemonade used to do the trick but I can't stomach anything but water to drink (apart from my morning coffee) so that's out of the question now.

Has anyone thought about when to take mat leave yet if you are in work? I know my work are going to talk about it with me soon ish. I may be sneaky and start it in november and go back to work at the start of the summer holidays next year. I get an extra month that way and still start working 5 afternoons a week in sept!

Moobee · 21/07/2011 20:57

Capybara - how fun that you know the gender already!

I hate acid reflux. I was already suffering badly before I got pregnant with chronic acid reflux so I'm on omeprazole. The doctors were reluctant at first to continuing to prescribe it (so I was reluctant to take it) but I suffered so badly when off it. I went back and they checked whether it was safe and their reference book said it's fine during pregnancy. I'm back on it and I've not had a symptom since.

Is anyone else having headaches? I've had a couple last week and I've got one now. So annoying. :(

I had my blood pressure checked at work last week by a gym who were trying to get people to sign up. It was 135/82 which is higher than normal - I've never had a reading above 110/70 before. Apparently it's still not counted as high, but I was concerned. Hmm.

Wondering whether to contact midwife tomorrow or to just wait until my appointment on tuesday. I have another mega long day (flying to France and back so about 16 hour day) on Monday. I was ill for the last trip there so I missed it - don't want to have headaches and feel bad again.

Moobee · 21/07/2011 20:58

Blueeyedmonster I'm planning on dec 11th for a year. With holiday, I won't need to go back till Jan 2013.

blueeyedmonster · 21/07/2011 21:02

That sounds fab Moobee, i'd love to do a whole year but need the cash really. It's only two hours a day though so not too bad!

mummyzoe2012 · 21/07/2011 21:12

im offically leaving for maternity on my due date but leave work on the 9th dec at the latest with holidays and wont be going back at all if we manage ok for the last 3 months as it will be unpayed for me

shonnomanom · 21/07/2011 21:54

Hope your all well and l=those that arent great start to feel better quick. x

Baby Purchases - Read as many reviews as you can and play with as much as possible before buying. Also great advice mentioned, involve your BabyDaddies as much as possible in the shopping. It helps to make them feel involved.

Headaches - Iv found it heps to make sure im drinking loads, it helps to ease them.

Gaviscon - Every pregnant womans saviour!!! If you feel its getting worse or simply not easing go see your doctor. Touch Wood this baby seems to be helping my heartburn. I was rotten with heartburn at the end of pregnancy last time and it never went away.

Mat Leave - I finish up on Dec2nd, EDD 01Jan. Due to go back to work after the Easter Holidays which I think is 16April. I know its short but I only work 3 hours in the afternoon and my mum, who lives round the corner from work, will have the baby and DD.

Negative Stories - Its the same with everything isnt it? You mention a shop, restaraunt, holiday destination etc etc there will always be someone with a negative story. Have you ever noticed how when you ask someone how their holiday was they take ages telling you how often it rained or how they had food poisoning etc then a brief short sentance about how they would love to go back again.

Smaill Bumps - Youl probably find yourself growing alot over the next few weeks. Dont worry about it, everyones body reacts differently remember. x

I felt my first proper kick today. I got such a fright,, was totally not expecting proper kicks this side of 20weeks.

Nanny01 · 21/07/2011 22:02

Spagbolagain have a look at this . When we were in the states these were all the craze. I have a 22 month gap between my 2 and 3 child and at the time we had a double as dd1 was so little however both children hated it as dd2 rolled around in it as it had very little padding ( graco tandem) and dd2 hated and promptly decided to get out of it and trash it to make sure it could never be used again. I like the idea of these caboose pushchair as they have a seat that can be flipped up and the child can stand if they want. Something which dd1 would have loved. It even takes a maxi cosi infant car seat to. Only wished they had been about when my dd'd were little.

ghosteditor - what no. baby are you on I vaguely remember it was 4?

Bellakins · 21/07/2011 22:25

You lot are making me want to buy things too! But Wormshuffler waiting till the 20 week scan sounds like a good milestone to reach. I keep hankering to buy a wee baby-grow or something but have resisted so far. We're also moving house in October so will definitely wait till then before making any of the bigger purchases.

Have been thinking about the maternity leave thing too. Am definitely taking the year off and ideally want to work as close to the birth as possible so I have more time with baby, especially as I'll probably go back to work 4/5 days a week and see maternity leave as sacred time!! Is it crazy to work up till 2/3 weeks before due date?! I don't have to make any decisions just yet though but that's sort of what I'm thinking at the moment.

Congrats to Capybara, wow a boy!!

I used to get teeth falling out dreams too, very disturbing as it all feels so real!

ghosteditor · 21/07/2011 22:45

I've been thinking about maternity leave too and have discussed it with work. The plan is that I'll take the full 12 months (but I'm going to plan a review late next summer in case I'm desperate to go back Grin), which I'm really excited about. We don't have any family nearby so it will be much easier after 12 months when childcare is less expensive.

At present I plan to work until christmas with an EDD of Jan 12th, but that will change if it needs to. I'm saving up some leave so that I can work shorter weeks in Dec (leave year runs Jan-Dec). I guess I will formally go back in Nov '12 but with accrued leave I won't need to go back into the office until early Jan. At the moment I strongly feel like I will want to go back part time, but haven't really raised this with work. It's complicated by my job role but I expect they'll do what they can to be flexible and keep me happy.

Livened · 21/07/2011 23:05

Maternity leave planned for early November as im out on the road a lot and also have to lift heavy stock so cant physically do my normal job from then onwards.

Just back from John Lewis and have fallen in love with the iCandy Peach - shame it's £800+ - my OH hid his shock very well (for him) and I think I've almost convinced him. Better start saving some pennies... x

debs39 · 22/07/2011 06:32

Re maternity leave...livened am with you on an early finish!!!! Remember last year ladies when the snow started Nov 17th???? Well, I go to work at 6am when it is minus silly figures and have to take DS to mum's en route so am thinking about leaving on Nov 25th!!!!!! (EDD 9.1.12 ) ( got stuck in snow last year and had a few horror stories getting to and from work so no way am I chancing that this year!!!) : )

Wormshuffler · 22/07/2011 07:58

Talking maternity leave I too am on the road livened I'm a sales rep, so also carrying stock about. For me I am think 6 weeks before which will be about 20th nov, unless I can't get behind the wheel before then! the minute the bump starts touching the wheel I am outta there!

I literally couldnt believe the price of prams, you could get a car for £800!!

addictediam · 22/07/2011 08:36

Moobee blood pressur in pregnancy is measured against what's normal for you hence why they take and record at every appointment. So it may not be high but of compaired to your other readings it is high the mw will be concerned. But don't forget a slight rise in blood pressure is normal.

I'm taking mat leave at 32 weeks. I'm self employed and was in the process of winding up my business when I found out I was pregnant, so I'm still trading untill 32 weeks when I can claim and then next year I'll wind up.

Bellakins its not crazy provided you have a easyish pregnancy, just be prepaired to be flexable if the baby isn't happy or your finding it hard, which im sure is your intention anyway!

falabalamb · 22/07/2011 09:17

Moobee, I've also been having headaches, which isn't normal for me, had one now for 24 hours, it even woke me up last night. Had my bp done last week and it was fine. Is it normal to get more headaches in pregnancy? I've never had them in previous pregnancies.
Capybara, that's such exciting news. The sonographer thought she saw boy bits at our scan but then backtracked and tried to cover herself I think, by saying obviously at this stage (14 weeks at the time of the scan) she couldn't be 100% certain. How many weeks were you at the scan?
We're off to John Lewis today to look at pushchairs. My previous pushchairs have been from ebay but as this is going to be my last baby I want to buy a new one. I'm tied to one that works with a Maxi Cosi car seat as that's what we have and I don't want to replace it. I've just seen on the mothercare website that ticks all the boxes but doesn't break the bank (about £260)...the Babystyle Oyster; rear facing, folds with the seat on, car seat compatible etc.

ghosteditor · 22/07/2011 10:47

falalamb and others - I've had loads of headaches too, but I suffer from migraines normally so I am used to it. Having said that, I've had a great couple of years recently so was a bit gutted when the pg headaches started and I couldn't take the good drugs. Fortunately I'm not incapacitated with them. I'm currently on day four of a bad bout (not constant pain, but most of the day every day) and had a week long headaches last month which was only alleviated by my physio. I'm pretty sure that most of my headaches are caused by jaw/neck/back tension and pregnancy is bound to have an impact on that with weight gain and shift in centre of balance etc. All I can say really is to keep hydrated (not just with water as it helps to keep salts/sugars all in balance), sleep when you can, don't worry about taking paracetamol if you need to, and try to get some time lying flat on the floor with a rolled up towel under your neck - if it's muscular at all then the last should help.

[sympathies]

GiraffeAHolic · 22/07/2011 10:47

Yay my midwife didn't see a problem with previous blood loss, said it was probably down to a very long labour, so homebirth is back on the table :)

I have been scouring the internet for prams. I cannot find a single one that meets my requirements and that dh and myself can agree on. I like the big silvercross 3d BUT it isn't parent facing as a pushchair. I like the M&P Sola but dh doesn't. I'm going to go and have a look at the Mothercare Spin and have a play.

Falabalamb I suffered with chronic headaches in the first trimester, they've eased slightly (currently 16+4) but when I do get one it's a bad one

ghosteditor · 22/07/2011 10:47

[sorry for getting your name wrong falabalamb]

LaBobkin · 22/07/2011 11:00

Hi all.

So happy to see so many positive scan and check up results!

I am just back from my 16 week check, everything ok. The midwife did a heartbeat check without my asking... was really exciting to hear it in there. It's all feeling a lot more real now.

Re prams - I've been looking at the iCandy too and think that actually the Cherry or Peach will be great for us. We seem to be getting a lot of stuff given to us - lots of friends / family who are just that bit ahead of us and who are on their last child - so we're happy to splurge on the pram a bit. We're off to Kiddicare in Peterborough tomorrow as they seem to have a good range of things. We'll not buy anything until after the 20 week scan or even later but I like to be prepared (and I'm starting to get really excited!)

Fingers crossed that those of you still feeling under the weather will start to perk up soon! x
