Morning all!
Good luck with your scan Nooby!
Some interesting things being said on here - but I like very much that there's no judgement, only support. Some of the threads on this site can get pretty extreme (I've learnt my lesson and try and stay away from contentious issues - anything that starts with "AIBU" generally spells trouble!) But here, on this thread there seems to be a genuine respect that we are all pregnant and we all have our own ideas - or ideals maybe - we all want the best for our kids and, personally, I appreciate this online community for sharing its ideas with me. I don't know everything - I know very little as this is my first pregnancy - so I'm open to ideas. Thanks ladies. Maybe one day I'll be trying out tandem feeding too... although as I plan on going back to work quite soon, I guess that would be difficult - how much can a breast be pumped?! Yikes! Hmm

DarciesmumandBump2 · 28/07/2011 08:28

Mrsx your not a terrible mum.

I've got the dentist this morning for the first time in about 10yrs - freaking out is an understatement - I have a phobia seemed to spend all my time there as a kid - had braces! Sad

msbuggywinkle · 28/07/2011 09:30

Nooby Good luck for your scan!

Darcies You'll be fine, it is pants being phobic of anything.

We're having a staying-in sort of day today, DP is off work tomorrow for our scan and we're going out afterwards then we have a busy weekend so I'm pacing myself!

Feeling a bit domestic goddess-y this morning (a rarity!) so I've made bread. It has nothing at all to do with me waking up in the middle of the night wanting fresh bread and butter. Not at all.

HoneyLovesCake · 28/07/2011 10:18

Morning ladies,

Hope you're all feeling well today :) Haven't been on here in a while so I've just been catching up on the past few pages.

Lovely that people are coming up with names; we've pinned nothing down yet. I've liked Isabella for a girl for years but gave up on that one thanks to the whole Twilight phenomenon...I think there are going to be an awful lot of Bella's in the next few years. My name choices tend towards the more unusual now, DP is mostly understanding but takes the mick out of me quite often too. (Calypso is apparently a step too far for him Grin)

Msbuggywinkle I personally think it's lovely to have some lentil weavery types on the thread; it's good to have a cross-section of view points; as a 1st timer I'm happy to learn from everyone's experiences. I'm pretty firmly in the non-baby training, sling wearing, on demand feeding camp myself. I read a lot of books before becoming pregnant & attachment parenting just made more sense for me but like I said this is my 1st so that might all go out the window once the LO is here Grin Each to their own I say!

jomouse · 28/07/2011 10:22

Hello everyone
Hope you're all well. As we are talking about BF I thought I'd entertain you with my slightly strange dream...
So ? boobs: they did start to produce milk and I was so chuffed, I got obsessed with milking myself (trust me I know this sounds odd!) ? then I set up a target range with the cats so I could squirt them in their faces from a distance with milk. Then I asked my DH if it was ok to suckle the cats before the baby came as it seemed a shame to waste it!
I seriously worry about myself sometimes. Not to mention my relationship with my cats - clearest example yet that they have been surrogate babies for a good many years!
I love to hear everyones opinions on feeding to demand/routine - as a first timer, its so useful to hear the different options and to learn from experienced mothers. I would hope theres no judgmental attitude on our thread, I have never seen it
msbuggy - fresh bread and butter....yummmmmm, I'm going to toddle off to the works canteen and get myself a trough of toast

sevendwarves · 28/07/2011 10:32

Better than me msbuggy, I'm craving doughnuts!

Good luck with your scan nooby.

mrsx you are NOT a terrible mother, your ex however is a horrible person.

OiMissus · 28/07/2011 11:14

I'm not craving anything ...but food. I am constantly hungry. It's a good job we don't have a works canteen!
I'm counting down the minutes til 12.30... fresh bread and butter and doughnuts - dreamy dreamy dreamy!

(I'm 21+6, and have only put on about 11lbs so far, if we had a works canteen, I would be the size of a works canteen!)

I went to bed at 9:30pm last night, I couldn't keep my eyes open. But then I was wide awake at 3:30am this morning. Grrrrr! But at least I wasn't milking cats in my dreams! (jomouse)

Cherrypi · 28/07/2011 11:32

Has everyone found the new ONS data on baby names for last year? It was released today. Fascinating stuff. I've been looking at the boys ones as we found out we were expecting at boy at the 20 week scan this week. Some mums at work just told me boys are more cuddly. Is this true?

Velvetunderground · 28/07/2011 12:06

Mrsbuggy - thanks for the advice. Its great that you bf for 4.11. I dont tell people i'm still bf on the doctor and mw as i think i have to tell them but i still feel embarressed about the reaction i will get. My DH is very supportive of me bf and we also co-sleep and i think its great for building a bond between DH and son. When the new baby is here i will put him/her in its own cot in our room so we are all sleeping in the same room together, so i hope it works out.

I never intended to do attachment parenting it just happened. I tried the control crying with my son at 6 months and he started to screem mum and both me and DH said no thats not right its not what we want to do so we had him in our bed and i feed him to sleep in 5 minutes and we have never looked back. I think children need love, attention and to feel safe, attachment parenting does that for us. (But i can't wait for him to stop feeding and be in their own bed so i can have a dribk Grin)

MrsX - you know you are not a bed mum, you sound great to me its your exh thats the twat. Just cos you have a child with him you shouldn't let him control your life or feelings. Easier said than done i know but he will give up some day. I think its so unfair that he is being so crual to the mother of his child tbh.

Nooby - good luck with your scan xx

Darcy - good luck at the dentist

I'm craving slush puppies Blush

Velvetunderground · 28/07/2011 12:13

Cherrypi - yep boys are more loving and cuddley but also have loads of energy and never stop, going on my son anyway.

I think they just go with the flow and are less fussy than a girl - or maybe its just my son that is like that Confused

I think every child is different and have their own personality. Just remeber that when you undo the nappy, if the penis is up then they are more likly to pee, so cover it up again and then check again. You will be amazed by how far a little boy can pee Grin. The same goes for bathing, be careful you dont get peed on, its like a fountian lol

Earwiggy · 28/07/2011 12:19

Just checking in as have been lurking without posting for a while. I would prefer no routine and totally going with the flow for my DC but have to say for my own sanity I started a bedtime routine for DS at 3 months and was very glad it worked!

OiMissus - lots of mum I know just feed morning, evening and before bed when they go back to work as if you have 9 months or more off they can certainly manage with just water in the day.

Cherrypi · 28/07/2011 13:39

Thanks for the tip velvet. Does wearing glasses help or does that just give them a target? Wink

Velvetunderground · 28/07/2011 14:14

Its a boy, nothing helps and everything is a target Grin

The first day i got son home he weed on our duvet cover from across the room, i was Shock, DH was rolling around laughing Hmm
He also weed on the health visitor, the breastfeeding midwife and the doctor at the hospital. It got to the point where DH and i would have a bet to see if he could get anyone else Grin

Boys are great fun Smile

They also eat you out of house and home, i'm so suprised at how much my son eats. He is on the 75th centile for both high and weight, he is only 2.5 years old and is 94cm high (he is really tall). He out grow his carry cot and crib at 4 months all as he was so tall. The thing that shocked me the most was how much the grow and change and how fast they do it. One miunte they are this little thing that cries all the time and can move or do anything then 10 months later he was walking and getting into everything.
My best advice is to baby proof one room and then take everything else out of it and leave the baby play in that room. Anything not glued to the floor will be in their mouths or trown at you/DP/dog/cat/anything you value Wink

With my first i spent all my time reading the pregenacy books and i should have been reading what to expect in the first year, i'm so not going to make the same mistake twice.

NoobytheWaspSlayer · 28/07/2011 15:18

Hello ladies - thanks for all your good wishes!

Well the scan went very well indeed. Everything is measuring well and looking nice and healthy. SUCH a relief - I literally shaking and had wobbly knees as she was scanning. Oh and she's a girl! Just a lovely wonderful way to complete our family, and we're feeling very blessed right now. My wonderful boys will have a little sister, who will no doubt have them wrapped round her little finger! Couldn't resist a bit of a pink shopping session, (beans on toast for supper for a week now!) but picked up a couple of new cars for the boys 'from their new little sister'. Yay!

mopsytop · 28/07/2011 15:40

Yay Nooby congrats!

NoobytheWaspSlayer · 28/07/2011 15:44

Grin Grin Grin

OiMissus · 28/07/2011 16:28

Congratulations Nooby!! I wanted to say earlier that I hoped it's a girl for you so you could enjoy the shopping sessions, but I stopped myself in case it was a boy. :)
That's lovely news.
There are some lovely little dresses in mamas and papas!

NoobytheWaspSlayer · 28/07/2011 16:34

oh.my.goodness - they are adorable! Please someone stop me, we'll be eating beans all month!

OiMissus · 28/07/2011 16:47

Do it - Do it - Do it!!!

Or send the link to family and friends, or drop big hints...

You can open up a gift list with M&P - like a wedding list. I know, it's obscene! But their things are just so lovely. I want to do the nursery in either their Gingerbread or Whirlygig theme.

Family and friend want to buy gifts - but common decency stops me from telling them what I want. Such a shame, because I will receive stuff that I know will not get used. I am awful and selfish and ungrateful - I know - I am all those things and a snob.

One of our niece's (DH's side) wants to buy a santa suit for the baby. She thinks it will be adorable. I unbuttoned my lips at that point and said a firm No!

I'm a terrible snob, aren't I. Sorry! I love mamas and papas. Can't help it!

OiMissus · 28/07/2011 16:51

Please don't hate me, I'm nice really!
It's the Trafford Centre's fault! Not mine! I'm a poor helpless victim. No other shop stocks maternity wear!
But once you walk through those M&P doors, you are doomed.

sevendwarves · 28/07/2011 21:17

Congrats nooby, great news!

Our nursery furniture we ordered arrived today, just waiting to find out what colour to paint the nursery before we can build it.
